Nadanbata please get my question right. I am not saying there was no rigging or (voter inducement especially in the SS &SE) both parties rigged and/or induced voters. I am only asking why violent against non-huasa & christian in Kano? If you are following the election in the country you will discovered that that demonstration against perceived injustices (as regard election) have also occured in other part of Nigeria even Kogi state- during primaries and even the ongoing main election. these demostration has also witness violence viz-a-viz \; looting, burning of cars even death(s) but were never with ethino-religious coloration like what happen in the North especially kaduna, Kano and bauchi. that is my question? that is my bone of contention that I will alway ask. this question will continue to hurt this Nation . It may interest you to know that I campaigned for Buhari, was scolded by peers becuase of this. if i vote for Buhari (and PDP rigged or induced voters to win the election) why burn my Place of Worship? why kill my kinsmen (both Christian & Muslim)? Who rigged the election in Kano, Kaduna etc? where they non-huasa? so why kill non-huas instead of demonstrating against your brothers that rigged the election infavour of PDP. What of the innocent NYSC members? what is there crime against Buhari/CPC. |
so my question is Why the jubilation? when it was killing of Non-huasa and burning of churches when PDP won the presidential election. |

Hi all one thing i shy away from easily is to engage in exchange of words over issues. especially when it has to do with project management. why? project management is a subset of management according to peter drucker and as such has different school of taught, and with the proliferation of certifications across the world on this discipline one is bound to have the tendency to be hardwired that his certification is the best. i think what i said in my post is a sincere advice borne out of my little years of experince across the public and private sector first as a civil engineer, facilities engineer and a project manager. i did my prince 2 exam soley because i want to set up a project management training shop hopefully before the middle of next year not because it was necessary, but the truth is that after studying the handbook i discovered that PRINCE2 is like a map of project management- it define in detail a structured approach on managing project. it state clearly the roles and responsibilities of all stakeholder on how the project should be managed- it set clear boundaries and define interception. but the PMBOK (3rd ed) did not (thou i just order for my PMBOK 4th ed), PMI create a body of knowledge not a methodolgy, that makes it easy for those who have practical experience to apply in wading through the tide of managing project- especially the soft skill aspect- building teams, conflict management, negotiation, decision making. that is why the PMP cert. demands an approximate 3-4 years post graduation project management. exeperience. unlike prince 2. I am confident that in my response i state clearly the project management trend in nigeria base on my experience and why i think in my opinion prince 2 should be a start for new entrant to the profession. Beside my work, i am a freelance project management trainer (incidentally i have not taught or guide any one on prince 2 except on PMP), especially as a one-on-one coach. the delima here is that as one who want to be a project management trainer/counsellor, helping individuals and organisations develop there project management capabilities, i need to learn how to manage my emotion and be objective, as far as my experience and knowledge can carry me. just to end a longer story, if you have been opportuned to work in an organisation with a methodology or at least desire to be projectised- you will discoverd such terms like- sponsor, stage gate, business case, tolerance, PIP (project implementation plan), project board etc. these are more of prince 2 vocabulary explicit define in prince2 than pmbok. of course it is a methodoloy- the how , while pmbok is a body of knowledge- what is project management. |

ohgrey, It is quiet difficult to actually say which of these certifications is the best in Nigeria as of now is. But from my little experience the PMP certification is more recognize by US companies than the prince 2. for example base on my own observation PMP is recognized in the telecom industry in Nigeria Currently I have move into the IT sector and I discovered that prince2 rule this sector in Nigeria, I think these is basically because prince2 and ITIL are British certification develop by one body OGC. However anytime I have the opportunity to talk about these either as a trainer or a colleague, I always explain that; 1. PMP answers the question what is project management? 2. Prince2 explains how to manage project? I close such discussions by saying if you are new in the profession go for prince2 first. But if you have been opportune to work in a well projectised environment then you can go for PMP. Of course to be very honest prince2 is more difficult to pass than PMP. Prince2 tells you in detail how project should be managed with clearly defined roles and responsibilities. That is why it is the most widely used foundation on which most project management methodologies are built. To answer you question in clear terms; if you can, get the two, but if you must get one, please get PRINCE2. Why do I say this? PMP is not a methodology but a body of knowledge, and as such PRINCE2 is an easy reference manual for developing project management methodologies than PMBOK. The implication is that anytime an organization is adopting project management methodology they easily go for PRINCE2 handbook because it is a road map. I hope this help you can call me or mail me if you have further question. |
Dear All, I am certified in both PMP and Prince2. and i did both exam in lagos. For Prince2- you can take the exam at any British council or an ATO (accredited training organisation. check digitaljewel and phillipconsulting for this) or you can get trained by any Prince2 practioner and/or read on your own and take the exam at british council. PMP- attend a 35hours training and take the exam at a prometric centre. i did mine at Touche abagbon close VI. but now i think they are doing it at first logic. but please be guided here that the PMBOK 3rd edition will no longer be use for the PMP/CAPM exam as from june 2009. the 4th Edition will be the recommended guide. |

kiwi992 OK this is my background - civil engineering (first degree), MBA and PMP/PRINCE2. recently precisely in March 2008 at was at abuja sap office to get info on the best modules that best suite my background, and i was made to understand that there is a projetc managememt module, i did consult some guys who are into SAP and they somehow scared me on the demand. and they said i should go in for MM or PP. so somehow i defer the idea till i get a one on one interaction with an expert. in as much as I want to go into the project management module i need to understand and be sure of te demand since it is a capital intensive investment. can you enlighten me more on the SAP project management module and the demand. thank you |
kiwi99, i am interested, in SAP my background is project management this is my email address; ezeuloho@yahoo.com. please can you reach me. thank |
Iyke, kashif is correct. project management certification is quiet different form what is obtained in the class room. it has its own methodology. it is braoder than the class stuff. i did an MBA and major in operations/production management. the project management i was taught ( the PERT, CPM Critical chain etc) are tools and techniques which most be combined with what i called the soft skills-- people management, negotiation, critical thinking, listening, leadership etc. and such other best practice like- risk management, cost management, vendor management and requirement management etc. to me a project manager must learn how to Maneuver the tide of organisation politics and functional silos ethically and must also be courageous to say NO kashif, what is happening to PMI Lagos chapter - |
Dear All, I just want to steer the discussion to some meaningful and helpful practicall project management tips.
