In conclusion,

Go for Poly..

Ensure you add Solar panel to the set up before getting new batteries, Also do not allow you Batteries beep low voltage before to you shut down.
Low battery beep mean you battery always discharge to 0%..

Solar panels ensure your battery voltage stay high during day time, since you are literally getting power from panels. And your battery will be working mostly few hours in the night when there is no power supply..

It's like having extra batteries on the roof that last longer than your battery

mono is smaller in size, n ideal if space is a constraint

Like earlier adviced a battery balancer is needed for your setup, also its better to always do the numbers to ascertain what minimum amps your batteries need to be fully charges and confirm that your inverter is supplying enough or get a stand alone charher to supplement.

I have someone who has been using a bluegate inverter with two 200ahrs batteries tho and his experience has been stellar. Mind you he has PV attached to supplement grid charging.

With your new battery bank you should add a balancer to avoid a repeat of any issues. Be sure to choose a solid battery brand e.g Quanta/FullRiver/Monbat

With 18 hours of Mains supply you should be good to go.

The only outstanding variable I see is your inverter - you need to test that it is going through Bulk - Absorb - Float properly.

Your current GBM battery sounds like typical generic asian origin batteries - still I find it shocking that they failed in just 4 months with very light loading and a regular 18 hours Mains supply to charge them with.

Am even thinking of getting a different inverter. The mercury inverter has no transformer in it. So am guessing it's also part of what caused damages to the batteries.

What's your say on microtek inverters? Been hearing good things about it lately.

More likely the batteries were far out of sync with each other at the original installation.

Your Mercury 2.4Kva is 24v nominal yes? You may want to see if you could still salvage 2 decent batteries from the bank although chances aren't looking good with what you described.

Your loads do not seem excessive for 4 batteries - you should confirm if your inverter is charging properly and if you were allowing sufficient time for a full charge on a regular basis e.g if you ran off batteries for the whole day and drained them 80%, the mercury inverter putting out a max 20A charging current would need about 20 hours to bring the batteries back to full charge - if you were not getting PHCN mains power for 20 hours, I am pretty sure you were not running your Gen for 20 hours at a stretch or whatever length of time was required to recharge the batteries fully.

Thus the batteries which were average quality at best were killed fairly quickly with deficit charging - this is one plausible explanation for what you have experienced.

You may also want to incorporate a battery balancer with your next purchase.

Power is really not a problem as we get a minimum of 18hours daily over here unless there is a general problem which sometimes could last for about 3days.

I feel the inverter is the problem. The inverter indicates a full bar which is 4 but once one bar drops, it starts to read low battery even on 3 bar and minutes after 2bar, 1bar and it goes off.

Also a technician came to check the batteries and about two of them are already reading weak. The remaining two reading medium not the green light.

Please tell us more about the battery brand, the size (number of batteries and Ah rating) and the kind of loads you powered off the battery bank.

There are very good batteries, average quality batteries and crappy ones but even the best battery in the world would die early if abused i.e. under/overcharged and/or overloaded and/or too deeply cycled.

Battery undercharging (leading to sulfation) and overloading and then secondarily too deep discharge (flogging battery to or near zero) are the biggest causes of premature battery failure.

4 GBM batteries 12v 200ah with a Mercury 2.4kva inverter.

Load is not much, energy saving bulbs and led light. 3 standing Fans that are 33W each, no laptop connected. 52inches led Tv, decoder and sound system. That's all.

It was very ok when it was first of all installed. Could go the whole day then suddenly it wasn't even lasting 5hours. Now it barely reaches 2hours on those load . All this happened within the range of four months..

I honestly dont even know if it's the inverter that did the damage to the battery.

Can anyone recommend a very good battery for my inverter. The last one gotten was pure rubbish and waste of money

IBL was released on friday on bail of N150k and police made him signed under duress and made transfer 500k to the said fraudster as a deposit saying I must ship those items and get to Nigeria by wednesday or else he will be locked up again by wednesday.

It was when he was freed that got to know the real story of what happened and we were able to secure a lawyer in order to get a court injunction to avoid him being locked up on wednesday.

As God will have it, The Fraudster haybee chatted me up on WhatsApp saying we should not suffer David(ibl) cos hes innocent. I screenshot the page and other evidence and forwarded to the lawyer.

So on monday, with the help of a nairalander, I was able to reach out to Lagos PRO/police complaint unit and explained everything to them how police was bribed by the fraudster and doing illegal job. The DPO of the station was called and the IPO reached out to IBL when the heat was getting too much. We both know dec is not a good time to lose Job. I would say the Police complaint unit did a very good job.

Ibl went with lawyer to the police station on wednesday and also the fraudster with the hope hes getting his items but he met another thing.

Long story short, he even claimed the ipad was tracked to egbeda this morning but thanks to the educated and learned lawyer and the DPO, they knew better about Microsoft and iPad.

Fraudster was told to call his brother, he claimed he was unable to reach him but ibl was able to reach me n he was told point blank that ibl has no case to answer in any police station or court in Nigeria and ibl was freed of all charges.

The fraudster saw things didnt go his way, he left and drove away. That's all I can say for now.

Justice might delayed but will never be denied. There will be no peace for the wicked.

I spoke with the DPO as well and promised him the items will be sent back to daaz before weekend then fraudster can have his "brother" go claim his package.

nymphomaniac and omicpet, special thanks to these guys. They were the only two people that showed up. Only 3 or 4 people also asked about IBL. It shows it was only strictly business relationship but let's always be our brother's keeper.
