debeey87: Good morning all. I need advise on the top floor of my build. We have completed the ground floor and done decking. The bricklayer is suggesting we use 9" block for the outer walls and 6" inside.
Isn't it possible to use 6" for the entire first floor instead of combining with the 9" on the outer walls.
Thank you
Good idea. But what about the sizes of your columns? Why not 9" throughout?
Bamboo possesses a higher tensile strength than steel, (NB, the major thing steel does in concrete is to provide tensile strength) One of the down side of bamboo in concrete is the bonding effect it will have with concrete, Even that can be enhanced with use of admixture.
2: about the caption on the pics your attached, (the picture I will attach) should be the major reason why one should be concerned about buying a building without knowing the structural integrity of the structure.
dongc: Well so many of the mud houses were built with bambo as support.....recently i was looking at a mud house which was built 1974 was later modernized; cement plastered late 90s.....it was just brought down..the bamboos were still intact ... I am not saying it can act as replacement or substitute but bamboo been used for years.... Check out this video and many others on YouTube....they are using reinforced glass fiber rebar....
Sir, the reinforced fiberglass rebar is designed to serve the purpose of reinforcement. That's entirely diff from bamboo. Bamboo for reinforcement is odd. I cannot stand it.
PrinceLat: I know we've discussed this here before, but seeing it again today, kind of raises the question, can this really be substituted for iron, on a serious note somebody please tell me it's photoshopped, @n3xt and others, have you come across it's usage anywhere in construction.
Want to know if we can port....... Prices are not smiling
iclass1: Good day great people, Please house, how do I go about or achieve this (block column with concrete in it) I saw it somewhere and am interested in doing same. Thank you.
That's very simple. After laying 3 to 4 courses, fill with concrete. Do so repeatedly until it gets to the top.
spyder880: Good evening my people, let's pause to consider this. Which arrangement of this 6 flats of 3 bedrooms do you think will be more costly to build from start to finish? All flats have same sizes of rooms. Option 1 has 2 flats on each floor, while option 2 has 3 flats on each floor.
Why do you think each type will cost more?
Which do you think will make more rental income for the owner?
If you're renting, which would you love to live in?
We will be assuming that the land for building both houses is the same.
The first 2 pictures are option 1.
The last 2 pictures are option 2.
Option 1 is the best deal. Every space will enjoy equally. Less land will be used. Servicing the apartments will not be a very big deal. A single roof. 2 stair wells will service all upper floors. This is just architectural consideration oooo. So many more advantages embedded in it. Option 1 is yummy.
