abeg ee i prefer my 08/09 camry and my 02/03 c-class benz to all these toys~ @ 190, my emphasis here is on choice! prefer in your submission = choice (you preferred because you chose from a certain pool of items). Some other fellow would call your 08/09 Camry and 02/02 C-Class toys >>> fact of life! And you guys had better stop charging mosquitoes to court before they declare war on you guys o!!! |
What a Like I said earlier on, different strokes for different folks. The way the world is going now, you continue with whichever product gives you value for your money: 1. Most MAC users hate Windows like mad but that hasn't stopped people from patronising Windows operating system on bit. 2. BMW/ Benz users will tell you its BMW/Benz and the others. Once the product gives you VALUE for your money, it's ok to use it. Now VALUE is relative. Puff Daddy bought his son a Maybach for his sixteenth birthday (that's VALUE for him). Someone else will buy a Benz, BMW, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai etc >>> that's VALUE for him/her. Freedom of choice prevails that's why you see people patronising brand new TATA/Geely cars instead of buying the tokunbo of other brands. Hyundai cars are tested and have come up with 7 year warranty on their vehicles showing they are confident of what they have produced >>> they have never fallen short of any expectations. How many of them have you seen broken down on the way or being towed. At least I haven't seen any in Lagos. How many Picantos have you ever seen displayed for sale? NONE. No one wants to let go of his/her own. My statements here are purely experential as I have used several brands of cars on the past 5 years (Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, Rover 200, Nissan Sentra, Audi etc) before opting for my 2009 Hyundai Elantra and I am enjoying every moment of it. >>> Excellent fuel economy, nice comfortable quiet ride with good gadgets et al. I am not a formular 1 driver so I don't need a V8 engined car to commute between my home and office or to move around Lagos, my 2.0 litre engine suffices. My wife, on the other hand, likes the Honda Civic, so she got one! CHOICE! Someone else might need a v10 vehicle to drop off his kids at school a few block away from his/her house! Where would you really enjoy that kind of car in our pothole-ridden roads? Many others have weighed the COST/VALUE index between the Korea cars and the others before closing in on their CHOICE. And I can confidently tell you that its not only COST that's considered here, VALUE is the key factor that stimulates CHOICE! CHOICE! Check out this link and figure out why the Hyundai Elantra is 3rd while the Toyota Corolla is ranked 18th! Note the criteria: Performance, Interior design, Exterior design, Safety and Reliability >>> all based on adequate tests! http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/cars-trucks/rankings/Affordable-Small-Cars/ Also note the Reliability rating for the Hyundai Elantra is 9.0 while that of the much reverred Toyota Corolla is 8.0 >>> this was before the Toyota recall issues even came up o! Nuff facts, nuff said! Bottom line: CHOICE! |
@ Fhemmy, Gifo, ib612, well spoken. The taste of the pudding is in the eating. You CANNOT condemn your neighbours soup by the smell, go ask for some! lol @ abayorme instead of suppositions, can you give an example of a Honda car copied by Hyundai (include pictures if possible). To grow in life, we need to understand that we have to keep evolving, updating our thought patterns and ideas with time and reality. The perceptions of old keep evolving and we ought to flow accordingly >>> that XYZ was not as good as ABC yesterday doesn't mean it will remain so forever ::: things CHANGE! Cars CHANGE! Now Toyota has recall issues, things will CHANGE for them because sales are dropping. Best Cars for the Money 2010 By Jamie Page Deaton Maybe the dust is settling. After a year of bankruptcies, massive recalls, brand shutdowns and Cash for Clunkers, the storms that have tossed the automotive industry may be blowing out. The recovery may be fragile and patchy, but it's there. Amid all the industry turmoil, it's easy to forget about the spark that drives the car industry: consumers. After being battered with enough industry news to drown even the most perceptive analyst, car shoppers are still left with one question: which car should I buy? Editor's Note: Since announcing the 2010 awards, two winners - the Toyota Sequoia and Camry - have been recalled for a serious safety concern. Toyota has halted sales and production of the vehicles until the underlying problem is fixed. It remains to be seen what impact the problem will have on resale values and maintenance costs on a long-term basis for these and other Toyota models. U.S. News created the Best Car for the Money awards to identify the cars that should make anyone's short list. The awards highlight cars, trucks and SUVs that will not only please their owners the day they drive off the dealer lot, but will keep them – and their wallets – happy for years to come. The awards are based on U.S. News' automotive rankings (at www.usnews.com/cars) and estimated five-year cost of ownership from IntelliChoice. Combining the rankings with real-world costs helps to identify cars that are loved by of the majority of car reviewers and that provide good long-term value. The Winners Across 23 award categories, roughly a quarter of the award winners come from Toyota or Lexus, Toyota's luxury division. As you might expect, Toyota wins the Hybrid Car category, with the Prius, and Lexus wins the Hybrid SUV category with the RX Hybrid. However, not all Toyota award winners are so green: the Toyota Sequoia, Land Cruiser and FJ Cruiser also each take awards. There are other surprises. In the compact and subcompact car classes, where you might expect Honda to dominate, the winners are the Nissan Versa and the Hyundai Elantra. Hyundai is also a spoiler with the Genesis, which beat out entries from BMW, Lexus and Infiniti to win Best Upscale Midsize Car for the Money. As has been the case all year, the performance of domestic car companies varies. Chrysler didn't manage to win any awards, and while General Motors won two last year, this year they only took home the Best Luxury Sports Car for the Money Award, for the Chevrolet Corvette. Ford, who didn't have any U.S. News Awards in 2009, wins the family sedan class with the new Ford Taurus. The Ford F-150, a perennial best-seller, wins the Best Full-Size Truck for the Money. What You Need to Know The award winners range from tiny subcompacts to hulking trucks, fuel-sipping hybrids to gas guzzling SUVs. As different as they all are, they also have something in common: each offers a combination of day-to-day livability and value when compared to other cars in its class. While some of the winners may not set car enthusiasts' hearts racing, they showcase a blend of features that appeals to the majority of shoppers. Sure, there may be cars that offer more style, more cachet, or better 0-to-60 times, but the Best Car for the Money awards honor cars that aren't just good at one thing – they are good at many. Car Deals: January 2010 And HYUNDAI Elantra wins again, where’s the Toyota Corrola , oops it’s even been re-called! |
Hey no one's asking you to trust Hyundais. It's a matter of choice. @ George D have you ever wondered why people buy the Hyundais/ Kias? If they were cheap and unreliable, would they patronise them? THINK! However, they are not as cheap as you think they are. Their prices are getting close to the Japanese models already. NB. The japanese cars (Toyota, Honda, Nissan, etc) are still classified as economy/affordable cars just like their Korean counterparts , all economy cars! Cheaper doesn't mean inferior! Lets no deviate from the topic under review. The 2011 Hyundai Sonata is a masterpiece. Well done, Hyundai! |
If you say Hyundais are over-priced, what would you say about Toyotas? When the Japanese cars came out, they were more criticized (vis-a-vis the German machines: Benz, BMW + the Chec Repbulic's Volvo + Peugeots ) till they prove themselves. Now the Koreans are making their own grand entrance, it's not new to hear critics speak >>> The Hyundai/Kia group are the 4th largest auto makers as at 2009 >>> ain't that a commendable achievement in such a short while? http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/18/hyundai-kia-overtakes-ford-as-worlds-4th-largest-automaker They are getting as reliable, fuel-efficient and rugged as their Japanese counterparts. Most of us are making experential contributions and not hear-say! Nuff said! Every auto makers has one or things copied from competitors >>> in this case I still don't see the similarities! |
Attached are the Infiniti fx35 and Nissan 50s. How dem take resemble the new Hyundai Sonata? Which Honda did Hyundai copy? These guys (now 5th largest auto makers in the world) are making efficient, dependable and affordable cars. Most cars look alike eg the camry, accord look similar because they are competing brands. lately Toyota made the Venza to compete with Nissan's Murano >>> they look alike too! Dem try, hail them!

2003 Toyota Corolla = N1.55million. Check testing ground at Alausa or Berger to confirm! |
price is outrageous! how much does a 2006 go for? review your price and sell it faster! |
Hi Layzie, I have a very clean, black, automatic, 2009 model for sale. It was bought brand new last year, mileage is under 3800km, still very new. Owner has a Honda civic (his wife just gave birth so he uses her car) which he uses to commute between his home and work daily and uses the Elantra to church on sundays. He'll sell for 2.2m. |
Wonder where and when the poster conducted a research to arrive at MOST Nigerian men , Funny how people draw conclusions. |
Fuel consumption - excellent Spares availability - good Durability - very good Re-sale Value - average |
enviable! |
@ elgaxton, Arsenal broke? you sure live in the sixties! |
@ presido. there's time for everything , a time to win and a time to lose a time to boast and a time to be humble a time to win trophies and a time to be trophyless , time will tell! |
How about N800,000? |
My guy, just try and get your money back and trade with reasonable auto dealers. Re: A car is not an investment but a liability. It could go either depending on how you look at it. Investment: Red n Yellow cab managers (or transporters like ABC, Agofure, Edegbe etc) would never agree its a liability , your guess is as good as mine. Liability: From an economist's point of view it's a liablity because of its depreciation and running cost. There are some necessary "liabilities" that enhance your comfort. |
@ perfectbuy, if the prices have changed why dnt you reflect this to guide buyers? @ emmaculate, Nigerians know but are helpless cos Standards Organisation of Nigeria or Nigeria(n) Customs have given free access to the dealers to import whatever they like , even without compulsory standard safety features like airbags. These cars are called 'Nigerian specs'. |
Perfectbuy, are the prices quoted on your initial post still valid? |
Hi folks, been hearing some "rumours" it takes 3 days for meat to digest in the human system. What's your take on this? |
Troops will remain in the Niger Delta to safeguard oil installations, the Joint Military Task Force (JTF) has declared - eight days after the end of amnesty. And Petroleum Minister, Rilwanu Lukman, disclosed at the weekend that Nigeria now produces between 1.6 million and 1.7 million barrels per day (bpd) and is sticking to its quota allocated by the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). That translates into earning N18 billion a day. Lukman said oil output reached 1.7 million barrels when the amnesty lasted from August 5 to October 4. The highlighted text has a keyword earning My dictionary says earning = net income Net income = The excess of revenues over outlays in a given period of time (including depreciation and other non-cash expenses) My point, all those expenses/operating costs etc you outlined had already been factored in (or out) before arriving at N18 billion. I stand to be corrected. |

Thanks Gifo, I don't do "band wagon". I experience stuff! My candid advise: test/research PROPERLY before buying anything! It's important to ask past/current users of the item/car/whatever to seek their opinion. Never seen any Hyundai/Kia broken down before , great value for money! |
