The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the release of Mr Ahmed Idris, the suspended Accountant General of the Federation, from its custody.

Mr Wilson Uwujaren, the Head of Media and Public Affairs of the commission, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja that Idris was released after meeting his bail conditions.

“I actually do not have an idea of what the bail conditions are, but all I can tell you is that he has been released after meeting his bail conditions,” he said

No fewer than two members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, Eastern Security Network (ESN) terrorists have been killed by their own Improvised Explosive Device (IED) that they laid for Nigerian soldiers in the South East of Imo State.

Director, Army Public Relations Brig Gen Onyema Nwachukwu in a statement revealed that the incident occured along Eke Ututu - Orsu road in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo state on 1 June 2022.

Nwachukwu said the dissidents, inadvertently stepped on the IED which they had earlier planted along several routes in Orlu, Orsu Local Government Area, while they were attempting to evade troops' onslaught against terrorists in the area.

He added that the outlawed group have severally planted IEDs along troops' patrol routes in failed effort to bring harm to the troops.

Nigerian Army urged all peace loving people of the South East to please inform troops of possible areas where these explosives have been buried for proper evacuation and disposal.

It would be recalled that, similar incident happened in May when Boko Haram terrorists on three Guntrucks, and one motorcycle were returning from the axis between Sabongari and Multe when one of its vehicle, a Toyota Hilux ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs) and landmine that they laid for Nigerian soldiers in the North East of Borno State.

The self-inflicted destruction consumed six of the Boko Haram led group while others suffered severe injuries.

Nigerian Army To Question Methodist Prelate Over Soldiers' Involvement In His Abduction

The Nigerian Army on Wednesday denied that military personnel were aiding kidnappers in the South-East region, IGBERETV reports.

Shortly after regaining freedom from his abductors, The Prelate of Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence Samuel Uche who was abducted on Sunday along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway in the Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State, had while narrating his near-death experience at the hands of kidnappers alleged that some soldiers from the North were working with the kidnappers in the South-East region.

In reaction to the Prelate's claim, the Nigerian Army stated that it will question the Methodist Prelate and the Methodist Church over the allegation.

The Chicago State University says All Progressives Congress stalwart and presidential hopeful, Bola Tinubu, indeed attended the university.

Beverly Poindexter, who is in charge of official transcript requests, enrolment and degree verification at the Office of the Registrar, CSU, said this in a terse email response to The PUNCH on Tuesday.

“Mr Tinubu did attend our university, however, if further information is needed, go to studentclearinghouse.org website to make a formal request,” Poindexter wrote.

In an earlier letter dated August 20, 1999 and signed by then Registrar, Lois Davis, the university stated that Tinubu was its student between 1977 and 1979.

He wrote, “Please be advised that Bola A. Tinubu did indeed attend Chicago State University from August 1977 through June 1979. He was awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Administration with honours on June 22, 1979. His major was Accounting.”

Also attached to Tinubu’s form CF004 submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission during his re-election bid in 2003 was a commendation letter from CSU recognising his performance and “high scholastic achievement”.

Tinubu’s academic qualification has been a subject of controversy for over a decade.

A recent viral article claimed that all the schools Tinubu claimed to have attended had disowned him.

Human rights lawyer, Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN), had also questioned Tinubu’s credentials and sued the Nigeria Police Force for failing to investigate him.

The Supreme Court in its judgment on May 10, 2002 ruled that Tinubu could not be prosecuted by the police for alleged certificate forgery.

The apex court also ruled that the Inspector-General of Police could not be compelled by Gani to investigate Tinubu for alleged certificate forgery as he enjoyed immunity at the time

The South-West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA’23) on Sunday said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will be making a huge mistake if it does not field Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as its presidential candidate to confront former Vice- President, Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 presidential election.

Atiku scored 371 votes at the PDP presidential primary to defeat his closest rival, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, who polled 237 votes and former Senate President, Bukola Saraki who came third with 70 votes.

Speaking with DAILY INDEPENDENT, Otunba Bosun Oladele, National Secretary of SWAGA said the only aspirant Atiku is afraid of in the APC today is Tinubu.

He said “Asiwaju Tinubu is the most potent threat to Atiku Abubakar. In APC today, he is the only presidential aspirant Atiku is afraid of”.

“APC will be digging itself into a hole if Asiwaju Tinubu does not emerge. He is the only one that can face Atiku grit for grit. He is the only one that can defeat Atiku hands down in electoral contest today in the general election”.

“Look at other aspirants in APC today, do they have the network Asiwaju has? There is no gainsaying the fact that we have our path cut out for us easily. We have our decision already made for us by reason of circumstances”.
