grin grin grin

So the Government that allowed doctors in just 1 state go on strike for 13 months is forgiven

Or the one that sacked the VC because oF ASUU strike is forgiven.... you people talk as if ....everybody has selective Amnesia like you

ASUU is a union created by law...
The law says...unions should give an audited report of their finances... and on this the FG is right with holding their dues until they submit the report...

The university can suspend the student union Government based on the same principle and refuse to remit the SUG dues to it ....so why can't the federal government do the same

somebody must cure this madness...After ASUU..then move on to NMA,NBA,NURTW, PENGASAN, ICAN Then this union's too can fight back by demading for audited reports of the government finances....

Let the unions and the Government fight to the finish..till they get to the supreme court..so that we can set a precedence and end this rubbish once and for all

its so easy to point accusing fingers at others when we are guilty of the same thing
If we all want a great nation...this are the kind of fights we should support. And not say because you hate the government their now...you abuse all their moves(good or bad) ...If the people you like gets there...they will face the same problem
You didn't read the last part were ASUU member said the financial report or audited report have been submitted to FG. ASUU should give a copy of the report they sent to FG to journalist to post it for the public to see.

Refineries won't solve the problem.

Local refineries will only ensure they are always available.

Refining crude oil in Nigeria is costlier than importing into the country.
Oga, you believe this lie?
Refining in Nigeria will create more jobs, raw materials for petrochemical companies, bitumen to do roads etc.
Refining fuel in Nigeria will be cheaper with alot of benefits to Nigerians. The refineries abroad are being owned by politicians in Nigeria or have a percentage from the refinery owners.

This has nothing to do with protests.

Let's stop deceiving ourselves in Nigeria.

Petrol subsidy needs to go because we are losing so much to it.

The government just needs to come up with paliatives to cushion its harsh effect.
You think this fuel that are selling at #400/litre, they are not subsiding it?
As far government is concern, fuel is #168/litre, the excess are going to private pockets. Let government announce the official price of fuel is #400/litre so we know they are not subsiding it again.
About 6.something trillions were budgeted to subsidy fuel till June, 2023. You see you are ignorant for saying this?

#300/litre in most fuel stations that is selling in Benin City. Transportation fares went up again yesterday and today. A place that was #100 before is now #300. 300% increase in transportation fares.

ASUU says it's fighting for Nigerian students yet they don't want to make any sacrifice. ASUU wasted 8 months of students lives but it expects to be paid in full for that. You sot students at home for 8 months, do absolutely no work yet expect to be paid in full for nothing. Abeg
You are ignore of the university system.
I am not in the academics but I can educate you on some things.
Do you know ASUU work is continum? They will have to start from where they stop, that's is to say, they will still do the jobs they would have done while they were on strike. They will have to cover the session before another session or you want them to jump the old session they were on strike to resume new session?
That 8 months of strike, they will hurrily cover it, if a session is 8 months, they can use 6 and a half months or 7 months, with time, they will cover up. It's the students that need to meet up with the arrangements. Those that suffered it the most are the postgraduate students. They pay school fee annually and not sessionally like the undergraduate. The postgraduate students paid school fees during 2020 COVID 19 were schools were on lockdown and nothing happened and also this 8 months of strike. They were made to pay the school fees when the fault were not from them.

When I say violence and strike action is the only thing this government understand .. stupid of ASUU to call off the strike on the basis of verbal agreement , they are teachers they should know more
They should disobey the orders from National industrial court and court of appeal? The highest court in this kind of case which is the appeal court, have given order for ASUU to call off strike while the case continue. The order was hurrily given because of national interest.
ASUU didn't call off strike because of any promises from the speaker. If ASUU have disobeyed the order, by now, ASUU national president might be in jail or ASUU might have been proscribed for disobedience to court orders.

Which brings me to the end of my story!

PS: My intention with this thread is not precisely to educate, there are so many threads on Nairaland that already do justice to the US Study abroad topic. But if you are a good reader, I am sure you must have gotten some valid information here.

I thought to share my story, in hopes that it encourages someone who plans to pursue an undergraduate/graduate program abroad especially in the USA.

Be strategic, start early, and have faith in God!

It's December 2022, and I have successfully completed my first semester.

It has been new, crazy (good crazy), and different. The educational system abroad is very different. Everything here is different. The opportunities I have enjoyed so far and the US system leaves me with a number of culture shocks.

It's like starting all over again, or being given a second chance to make your life what you want from it in a system that is supportive and cares about your growth.

All in all, I am happy I made the move. I am so grateful to God because honestly if it were based on my grades, or whatever else. I wouldn't be here. Which makes it a testimony!

Thank you for staying with me! (Big Smile)
Thanks for sharing.
I really gain and enjoy your writeup.
I have interest to start pursuing my PhD admission in Biomedical science in the US.
I graduated with 2.1 in my undergraduate, doing my Masters, done with course work and thesis, just for me to defense my thesis which is going to be early next year, I would have finished it but strike and 2020 break delayed the program. I am hoping to graduate with maybe 4.2/5.0 in my masters.
To increase my chances, I will love to write GRE exam. Any advice for me?

Peter Obi have really brought changes to the political campaigns, no more eating of roosted corn with the masses, no more eating with primary and secondary school students during campaigns. No more sharing of salts and small rice. Now, campaigns are based on issues, what will you bring to the table if you are voted for?.
This man need to be celebrated for bringing positive changes to political campaigns in Nigeria.

Food / Re: What's The Price Of A 50kg Bag Of Rice In Your Area In Nigeria by Unigrad: 6:23pm On Dec 13, 2022
PrettyBolu:
In 2014, bag of rice was below N10,000. As we reached December, the price rose to almost N10,000 which is normal for the price of rice to increase during December in Nigeria.

APC used this to campaign against Jonathan. How can a bag of rice be N10,000. Nigerians did not understand. APC felt the price was too low. 8 years later, a bag is over N40,000.

APC supporters don't still want to have sense. In 4 years, if you vote Tinubu, you will be buying a bag rice for N120,000.

https://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/11/rice-hits-n10000-per-50kg-bag-lagos-market/
A bag of foreign rice 50kg was #8,500 as at 2014, now a 50kg bag of local rice is now 40k-41k in Benin City. The one dey call foreign is #46-48k in Benin City

Politics / Re: Oil Marketers Abandon Scheme To Break Subsidy Regime by Unigrad: 4:54pm On Dec 11, 2022
Kobonaire234:

To build one of those type of refineries now would cost us one third of our foreign reserves.

Lagos tax revenue for 2021 was around 740 billion naira, which is about 1.7bn dollars. A new refinery of the kind we have wrecked would cost about 5-10 billion dollars.(Dangote's initial cost of his refinery was 9bn. dollars. He needed to borrow more money to get it up and running)

Plus tax revenue is used for other things. Lagosians won't like it if you spent their tax for a refinery.

Finally, it is not building a refinery, it is keeping it well working...and to pay for that, subsidy has to go so that fuel sells at a profit.
Are you a staff of oil company?
What about individuals owing the oil wells of the nation?
Politics / Re: Oil Marketers Abandon Scheme To Break Subsidy Regime by Unigrad: 4:36pm On Dec 11, 2022
Kobonaire234:

No, but it won't cost less than 300 naira either.

Niger produces refined fuel at home, and for export, and it cost them N350 at the pump. Ghana does the same for over N600 per liter at the pump.

It costs money to refine fuel. Keep in mind that the components and materials and equipment in the refinery is not made in Nigeria...it is made abroad.
Niger and Ghana you are comparing Nigeria with, do they source their crude oil from their countries?
Politics / Re: Oil Marketers Abandon Scheme To Break Subsidy Regime by Unigrad: 3:58pm On Dec 11, 2022
Kobonaire234:

Like you don't get it...NNPC imports fuel at a cost of N510 as at November and sells it at N140 to market...although it is as high as N180-210 in practice.

That means NNPC is spending about N360 at least to subsidisie one liter of fuel...and when you add that up, that is a large chunk of our budget gone.

At the end, we have to take loans to cover the hole.

And the cost keeps rising. In June 2021...NNPC was spending N261 to bring in one liter. By the middle of the year it was N367...and now it is N510.

Plus rising diesel costs...diesel is now close to N800 up from N400 last year....means that cost of transporting that fuel has gone up.

Either way the poor suffer.

And yes, you are immature. You keep on abusing me, calling me a liar, and calling me an oppressor, and refusing to back down. You are very immature. Better grow up. Abusing people online cannot get you far. Thank you.

Now that is all I have for you. If you don;t get it...sorry.
If we are refining the fuel here, will the landing cost still be #510/litre?
Politics / Re: Oil Marketers Abandon Scheme To Break Subsidy Regime by Unigrad: 2:06pm On Dec 11, 2022
Kobonaire234:

The sector has lost money selling fuel at cheap prices all year round. Losses have to be recouped.

The thing you Nigerians need to get is that you cannot sell something that should cost N200 and more at N180 and below, and expect miracles.

Even NNPC that brings in fuel at above N250 and sells it below N200, how long is it going to sustain that? And guess where the money comes from?
If the money budgeted to repair the refineries were properly used and our refineries are working optimally that we don't need to import fuel, do you think we will still be talking of subsidy removal? Will price of fuel be high as this?
