Nineteen months after assaulting a nursing mother, Senator Elisha Abbo, has again been caught on video slapping a young man repeatedly in his hometown in Adamawa State. Abbo, representing the Adamawa North Senatorial District, was seen assaulting a young man in a video posted by a Twitter user, @Jacfelixchidama.
The Senator first came to the limelight in 2019, when he was captured in a video beating a female attendant, Osimibibra Warmat, at a sex shop in Abuja. The assault was done in the presence of an armed policeman who, rather than protect the victim, arrested her. The police later arraigned Abbo before a Magistrate Court in Zuba, on a one-count charge of assault. Despite video evidence of the incident, Abdullahi Ilelah, the Magistrate, upheld the no-case submission filed by the lawmaker and dismissed the case.
However, Warmate instituted a separate civil suit at the FCT High Court and on September 28, Samira Bature, the presiding Judge, convicted Abbo and ordered him to pay N50 million as compensation to her.

Seven farmers including a nursing mother, have been killed by suspected bandits who attacked three villages – Unguwar Maigayya, Tashar Bama, and Dogun Muazu of Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State, Northwest Nigeria, over the weekend. Ibrahim Danjuma Machika, the lawmaker representing the area in the Katsina State House of Assembly, reported the killings during the plenary session of the legislature on Monday, November 30. Machika told his colleagues that the attack happened in broad daylight, adding that over 30 villagers were kidnapped during the attacks.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths of twin toddlers who drowned at a family home in Kloof Falls, on the KZN upper west highway, Durban, at the weekend.

According to a spokesperson from Rescue Care, the two-year-old brothers died just before 5pm on Saturday afternoon, November 28. “Rescue Care Paramedics arrived on the scene to find the twins had somehow fallen into the family pool. Paramedics assessed the two and attempted to resuscitate them. However, their attempts were not successful and both boys were declared deceased on the scene,” the spokesperson said. Taking to social media following the horrific incident, the boys’ grandfather, Ivan Ikes, said the twins’ parents had gone to sympathize with another family. He said the boys, Sebastian and Ethan, had been left with the nanny and managed to get to the pool. “The boys got up and went outside and somehow after fiddling, got the gate to the pool fence opened. The one kid fell in and the other, after what seemed like beckoning to his brother to come out, jumped in to save him. They hung onto the Kreepy Krawly for as long as they could until eventually succumbing to their fate,” he said. The drownings were caught on CCTV camera. The distraught grandfather said if it had not been for the CCTV cameras, they would have not known how the boys got into the pool. “My people, if you have young kids at home, forget the mad Christmas spending and invest in cameras. They don’t lie,” he said. On Monday, November 31, the grandfather posted photos of the toddlers. He captioned it thus; “They came into our lives together. They left our lives together.” According to Rescue Care, police were at the scene and will be investigating further.

More than 43 farmers from Zabarmari, a farming community in the Jere Local Government Area of Borno State were slaughtered by Boko Haram terrorists. The incident happened on Saturday, November 28, at Koshebe village, in Mafa Local Government Area while the victims were working in a rice field. One Mohammed Chiroma from Borno State shared photos of the victims being recovered from the massacre scene. The photos show that most of the farmers were beheaded.

Nigeria generated the sum of N416.01 billion from Company Income Tax (CIT) in the third quarter of 2020. This was revealed in the Company Income Tax by Sectors report, recently released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). According to the report, the total CIT generated increased by 3.48% in Q3 2020, compared to N402.03 billion recorded in the previous quarter (Q2 2020). It reduced by 20.13% compared to N520.89 billion recorded in the corresponding quarter (Q3) of 2019. Company income tax generated year-to-date sums up to N1.11 trillion as against N1.26 trillion in the comparable period of 2019. Professional Services including Telecoms generated the highest amount of CIT with N55.52 billion generated, closely followed by Other Manufacturing with N42.03 billion. Banks & Financial Institutions generated a sum of N24.05 billion. Mining generated the least, closely followed by Textile and Garment Industry and Local Government Councils with N120.93 million, N167.51 million, and N321.72 million generated respectively. Out of the total amount generated in Q3 2020, N244.70 billion was generated as CIT locally, while N70.34 billion was generated as foreign CIT payment. The balance of N100.97 billion was generated as income taxes from other payments.


Automobiles and Assemblies grows CIT by 994% In terms of sectors with the highest increase in company income tax remittances, the Automobiles and Assemblies sector grew its CIT by 994%, from N81.6 million in Q2 2020 to N892.7 million. It was closely followed by the Gas sector, which grew its CIT by 626% to stand at N4.76 billion from N655.5 million.

Bottom line The rise in company income tax is an indication of the Nigerian government’s move to improve the generation of revenue from the fiscal side as against oil exportation. However, the halt in economic activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic contributed to the year-on-year decline in company income tax.

Two elderly men were arrested by Bauchi state police command for allegedly raping a 13 years old girl in the new GRA area. DSP Ahmed Mohammad Wakil who happens to be the spokesperson of the command has confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, November 25, said that the duo was arrested due to a report made by a victim relative.

“On 15-11-2020 at about 2050hrs one Rabi’u Musa ‘m’ of Sabon Kaura Bauchi reported at ‘D’ Division that one Ibrahim Musa ‘m’ aged 63yrs and Nuhu Isah ‘m’ 56yrs all of Unguwan Gado Bauchi had unlawfully carnal knowledge of Hauwa (not real name) ‘f’ aged 13yrs of Sabon Kaura Bauchi on different occasion in a security room located at new GRA near Sindaba Hotel Bauchi,” Wakil.

A 21-year-old man identified as Kabiru Mahmud has been arrested by the Kano police command alongside his mother and uncle for being in possession of 49 parcels of Indian hemp. Mahmud was arrested at Danbire village while transporting the substance from his family home at Gadonkaya quarters to a hiding place on the outskirts of Kano metropolis after the police received an intelligence report of a young man carrying sacks believed to be Indian hemp. It was gathered that the suspect’s mother had directed him to move the substance from her matrimonial home at Gadonkaya quarters to Danbire. The All Progressives Congress, APC, on Monday, dismissed insinuations that the End SARS protest may affect the party’s presidential chances in 2023. APC’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, said the protests won’t affect the party’s chances of retaining power in 2023.

Following the alleged killing of protesters across the country by security operatives, there are some insinuations that APC won’t be allowed to return to power in 2023.

Some Nigerians on social media had urged Nigerians to vote out the APC, come 2023. However, Nabena in a brief chat with Naijapalaba advised Nigerians against connecting the END SARS crisis with 2023 political activities.
