PoliticsThe Game Is Over For APC As Buhari Receives Marching Order To Accept Defeat by UniqueBaze(op): 10:32am On Sep 09, 2018
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said that all social, economic and political indicators show that the game is up for President Muhammadu Buhari ahead of the 2019 General elections.

The party said President Buhari’s desperate bid to use his veto to frustrate the amendment to the Electoral Act passed by the National Assembly, which practically checks all the All Progressives Congress, APC’s rigging strategies for the election, shows that the President and his derelict party are now clutching on straws.

In a statement signed by Kola Ologbondiyan, the party Spokesman on Thursday maintained that Nigerians has rejected Buhari’s veto and approved that the National Assembly should override him.

The statement reads in part: ”The Buhari Presidency and the APC in their plans failed to note that Nigerians are already aware that President Buhari is mortally afraid of the amendments because it effectively checks the use of underage and alien voters, vote-buying, alteration of results and manipulation of voter register; the very basis for which APC and Buhari Presidency have been boasting of winning the 2019 elections.

“Nigerians are aware that President Buhari does not want the amendment because it provides for instant transmission of results from the polling to collation center, thus eliminating interferences and planned alteration of results by the APC.

“President Buhari is not happy because the amendment makes it mandatory for INEC to publish voter register online, thus terminating APC’s plot to doctor voter register to suit their rigging script.

“Nigerians are full of commendation for members of the National Assembly, who, in spite of executive intimidation and President Buhari’s determination to set aside the amended electoral law, have maintained their patriotic stand in the overall quest by our citizens for a free, fair and credible 2019 General elections.

“The APC should know that Nigerians have since seen through their lies and machination, including the exposed plot to use security agencies to intimidate oppositions. The citizens are, now more than ever before, ready to resist all anti-democratic machinations in the 2019 general elections.

“What is left for the Buhari Presidency is for it to end its scheming, tender a direct apology for its abysmal performance and get prepared to accept defeat and leave the stage for a more innovative and people-oriented President, to be elected by Nigerians on the platform of the repositioned PDP, come 2019.”

PoliticsThe Full Story Of How Ex Head Of State, Murtala Mohammed Was Killed 42 Years Ago by UniqueBaze(op): 9:26am On Sep 09, 2018
He was whipping up a popularity that had fizzled out since Nigerian politicians in the First Republic discarded the trust of the Nigerian people, but that counted for nothing when 42 years ago today, on the 16th of February 1976, General Murtala Ramat Mohammed, was shot down by coup plotters, in the midst of Ikoyi traffic, while on his way to work.

Today, anyone who has grown around the typical Nigerian displays of power would have a hard time understanding why a sitting military head of state would drive through Lagos traffic with no security.

Yet this was only a reflection of the genteel and almost reckless lack of self-importance with which Murtala, as he was fondly called by most Nigerians, went about his business.

Born on 9 November 1938 in Kano, one of his parents’ 11 children, Murtala joined the army at the age of 19.

Within 10 years, on the strength of his work ethic and numerous degrees and training programs, he was made Colonel, barely 30 at the time.

During this time, Murtala played a role in unseating Aguiyi Ironsi from power, after the latter took the seat in January 1966.

Murtala Mohammed and members of the Supreme Military Council (TIN Nigeria)

On 29th July 1975, General Yakubu Gowon was overthrown while attending the 12th summit of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) in Kampala, Uganda.

Muhammed, who had just recently been made Federal Commissioner for Information (equivalent to the role of Minister for Information and Communication in today’s administration) took power as the new Military Head of State.

Murtala, with Olusegun Obasanjo as Chief of Staff, Defence HQ, (a role which was practically the same as being Vice President), set about changing a lot of the policies and overhauling the institutions that had made Gowon unpopular in his final days in power.

A popular leader

Within the short span of 201 days, he was able to restore a love for the nation, a clear sense of patriotism that had been lost when Nigeria’s first civilian leaders first began to show that having the key to the vault means that money will begin to vanish and then show up in unexpected places, in expensive cars and fat bank accounts.

After the rigours of the civil war, Murtala set about to re-organising and demilitarising a large wing of the Nigerian army, reducing the total number of active soldiers by 100,000.

General Murtala Muhammed was assassinated in this Mercedes Benz (Naija Underground)

As head of state, Muhammed put in place plans to build a new Federal Capital Territory due to Lagos being overcrowded.

A panel headed by Justice Akinola Aguda chose the Abuja area as the new capital ahead of other proposed locations.

On February 3, 1976, Muhammed announced that the Federal Capital would in the future move to a federal territory location of about 8,000 square kilometres in the central part of the country.

After it was alleged that the 1973 census was heavily weighted in favour of the North, Murtala cancelled and nullified the results, much to the pleasure of the other regions who were desperate for equal representation.

These actions reflected the ethos of a man who felt he would treat everyone as he wished to be treated.

Murtala was seen as very upright and he dealt with his colleagues and everyone else with a sense of expectation.

Many in that time say he was a natural born leader, charismatic, direct and ambitious. His decisiveness, especially, won him popular support among Nigerians.

However, Murtala was a young soldier from the North. Among his region and other soldiers who felt they deserved a bigger say in the direction of the country, his changes seemed too abrupt, too radical, too intense even. Some called him mercurial.

Ultimately, coupled with his belief that his reckless abandon, this led a group of soldiers to call time on his government and cut him down in his prime.

Murder in the Capital

On February 13, 1976, General Murtala Ramat Mohammed was on his way to work in Dodan Barracks. While sitting in his Black Mercedes Saloon Car along with his Aide-De-Camp (ADC), Lieutenant Akintunde Akinsehinwa, he was ambushed by a group of soldiers.

Murtala, along with his entourage, was killed in a hail of bullets, a task that was made all the easier because the only visible sign of protection was a pistol carried by his orderly.

His assassination was part of a coup attempt led by Lt. Col Buka Suka Dimka, who was the head of the Nigerian Army Physical Training Corps. On killing the Head of State, the coup plotters swung into action, taking, first, the media.

Murtala had made a meal of nationalising private media, including the two largest newspapers and strengthening the reach of state-owned media, particularly the radio network.

Around late afternoon, on that day, Dimka announced on the radio that the Young Revolutionaries had taken over the government. He went ahead to declare a 12-hour curfew.

His message was played throughout the day on radio alongside martial music.

This development heightened an already tense atmosphere. Many knew that Murtala had been killed and in a country where war was only a recent memory, there was already a rumour-based list of things to expect.

Dimka’s announcement confirmed that this was an attempt, however successful, to wrestle power from the government.

It threw everyone and everything into a state of pandemonium. In Lagos, people were too scared to come out of their homes and go to work, for fear of reprisal attacks by troops loyal to Murtala or a tussle between both sides.

The disorder and confusion were not limited to Nigerians alone.

How Arthur Ashe and Pele almost got trapped in Nigeria

Nigeria in the 70s was enjoying a massive oil boom. The proceeds of this new found wealth made its way into building infrastructure and making cities like Lagos a desirable destination for the West and corporate concerns.

The coup happened while the city of Lagos was playing host to the World Championship Tennis Pro Circuit Series.

Players like Arthur Ashe, Jeff Borowiak and Dick Stockton were vying for the prize money while enjoying the many bounties that Lagos has to offer.

Stockton had informed his colleagues at the Federal Palace Hotel where they were staying, of the coup after Paul Svehlik, the WCT tour manager had called him to tell him about the assassination.

Further down the hall, the Brazilian football legend, Edson Arantes de Nascimento, or Pele as he is known the world over, was listening to the radio. He had come to the country as part of a tour sponsored by Pepsi.

From the moment that the first bullets rang out and Dimka’s voice went on the radio, their lives were suddenly at risk.

Troops loyal to the Federal Military Government made an attempt to take back the radio station from the coup plotters.

By 3.00 in the afternoon, the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation went off the air. In the tussle, Dimka narrowly escaped being shot.

In time, control of the radio was regained and with highlife music announcing its return, the radio station came back on the air.

By 3 o’clock in the afternoon, the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation went off the air. The Federal Government wanted to take over the radio station from the coup plotters.

Dimka narrowly escaped from the gunfire. After the premises was recaptured, the radio station came back on the air with highlife music.

By evening, the Federal Government announced that the coup was successful and a curfew was still in effect.

The silence over Murtala’s death was raised when on February 14, the Federal Government announced that Murtala had died and Olusegun Obasanjo was the new Head of State.

The FG also announced a seven-day mourning period for the slain leader.

The sentiment at the time, and it is one that remains to this day, was that the American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) had murdered Murtala. Nigeria was not the place for any foreigner to be in those days.

The foreign contingent of the WCT faced some trouble in leaving. The military disrupted the rest of the games, entering into the courts and ordering everyone out with automatic rifles and clubs.

Players, support staff and journalists got the brunt of the soldiers’ anger.

One of them, a Daily Mail tennis correspondent John Parsons was hit by a club by a soldier, leaving an 18-inch scar on his back. Parsons was on his way to the Reuters office in Lagos to file the breaking story when he was assaulted.

Eventually, after much maneuvering, the Federal Military Government provided transport for the players and they left the country.

Pele, on the other hand, found refuge in the home of the Brazilian Ambassador, before flying out of the country.

After Obasanjo was announced President, he set his efforts to bringing Dimka to justice.

The colonel had not been seen since he fled the premises of Radio Nigeria in Ikoyi after the coup so he quickly became the focus of a massive manhunt.

Dimka was eventually arrested in the company of a female companion, at Friendship Hotel in Afikpo, in Eastern Nigeria.

Following a court-martial, Lieutenant Colonel Dimka and another 38 military officers and civilians were executed by firing squad.

Gone, but not forgotten

Looking back today, it says much that Murtala enjoys perhaps the cleanest legacy of any Nigerian military leader.

His biggest criticisms have come not from that era but from the civil war. Nigerians may forget but the people of Asaba remember when his division of the army murdered a majority of the town’s male population, creating an imbalance that is still evident till this day. That mass murder is known as the Asaba Massacre and it remains one of the biggest scars from the civil war.

Our failure to address that part of our history has played in his favour, as with many of his peers. But that takes nothing away from the work he did after.

Despite spending just over half a year in power, he left an imprint of dedication and empathy.

In return, Nigeria’s leaders have shown him love and appreciation.

He was the first Nigerian to have his depiction on Nigerian currency, specifically the 20 Naira note.

The International Airport in Lagos is also named Murtala Mohammed Airport in his honour.

In almost every city or state of the country, there are streets, parks, gardens, buildings and other monuments named after him.

We hope today that the military era of Nigeria’s past is gone, for good, but while we have the benefit of hindsight, we will look back at days like that fateful morning in February and think about what it could have been.

EducationNigerian Man Gets His Phd, Recounts How His Lecturer Insulted Him by UniqueBaze(op):
- A Nigerian man has shared the story of how he achieved a doctorate degree after failing for so long

- The man also stated that a lecturer had told him that he was carrying a useless degree

- He noted that he had studied a 4 year course for 7 years because he failed

Toba Bamigboye is the latest doctorate degree holder and he was full of so much joy that he decided to share his story on Facebook.

The man had recounted how he never thought of getting a doctorate degree because he failed a lot while he was in the university. According to Bamigboye, he was left behind by a lot of his classmates because he failed.

He revealed that he studied philosophy for 7 years instead of 4 years because he could not keep up. He noted that he finally graduated with a bachelors degree from the Federal University of Agriculture.

Bamigboye who had graduated with a third class finally moved on to study his masters and later achieved his PhD.

The man who gave thanks to God for his achievement, recounted the story of how his zoology professor had called his degree a useless one in the university. He stated that the professor would be surprised to hear that the degree had given him the ability to produce three postgraduate degrees abroad.

PAY ATTENTION: Get the Latest Nigerian News on NAIJ.com News

He also expressed sadness that his late father could not rejoice with him. He, however, stated that his father would be happy for him.

Read post below:

"Today I am holding a PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) dee. It is not really new that people get a PhD but my own story might be a bit interesting. I graduated from the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB) with a third class degree. I did this third class degree for over 7 years. It was a period of horrible experiences. All class mates left me behind I remember I was actually tempted to drop out. But I managed to stay back to at least get a degree so it won't be a wasted years.

Today I have a doctorate degree in the same discipline. I vividly remember a Professor of Zoology in FUNAAB who is popularly known for tyranny told me and I quote "You are carrying a useless degree". I wonder how he will feel when he knows that the useless degree has produced 3 postgraduate degrees outside the shores of Nigeria including a Master of Science degree with a distinction and a Doctorate degree.

May be my story will give him a repentant heart towards poor students and even unserious ones. How things turn around, Christ is the source. All glory to him. I am only sad that my late dad all through the struggle never gave up on me but he did not wait to see this success. He invested all he has to see me succeed. I am sure he is rejoicing in heaven over this. And that is why I dedicate this degree to you my Late Dad (Late Elder Joseph Bamigboye). Death did not make you see this but I am sure you are glad in heaven. My mum intensified prayers and support in a very aggressive manner to see the cup pass over me.

Thanks to her. Also to everyone who did not give up on me in a state of despair you are super hero. It is easy to identify with success but thanks for being close when failure was speaking too loud. To God be all the glory. To every discouraged people out there, please do not focus on the negative and do not be hopeless, and do not give up, it will soon be over."

There is unease in Ekiti State over the approval and purchase of a 2018 Lexus LX 570 Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) valued at N75 million for Governor Ayo Fayose as a “parting gift”.

The purchase is causing anxiety in the civil service as fear grips officers involved in the deal ahead of the change of government on October 16.

It was learnt that the vehicle was bought about a month ago but The Nation reporter sighted the documents on the deal yesterday.

A civil servant, who spoke in confidence, described the deal as “strange, suspicious and unheard of” at a time government workers and retirees are owed salary arrears.

A memo for the purchase of the vehicle emanated from the Political and Economic Department of the Governor’s Office through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

The letter authorizing the purchase of the SUV was addressed to the SSG, Dr. Modupe Alade.

It was written by Mr. Bayo Opeyemi, the Executive Secretary/Director General, and was dated August 1.

The deal was alleged approved same day by Fayose with his signature on the document.

Johny sat wearily resting his tall slim well built frame on a blackish brown wooden back chair which seemed as if it had seen more years than johny himself.
dark clouds covered the sky as the grayish glow of twilight slowly surrendered to the domineering command of night.
The hurricane lamp in front of him cast a yellowish golden glow over the environment, given an amber look on johny whose heavy face rested on his palms, the brownish singlet hanged loosely on his shoulders with little holes here and there, one can easily make out that it use to be white, the yellowish glow of the gentle flame dancing inside the lamp glove gave it a crisp bright milky colour.

A reddish brown mud house stood behind him with the thatch seemingly shimmering in the black intruding yellow shadow casted by the glowing amber.
“How did it come to this?” he muttered under his breathe. “who can believe this is me, johny williams, founder and C.E.O of JOHNYSKY group of companies, youngest millionaire in my town. taking an extreme scan of his surrounding taking in the whole settings of his new environment; the thatched reddish mud hut behind him, a sandy brownish soil adorning the earth beneath his feet with fruit trees swaying happily around seemingly saying hello…

Foreign AffairsSee How Taliban Field Commanders Signal Openness To Peace Talks after 17 Years O by UniqueBaze(op): 10:41am On Sep 04, 2018
Faced with a resurgent ISIS threat and emboldened by recent gains on the battlefield, two senior Taliban field commanders suggested they are open to peace talks with the Afghan government after 17 years of war.

The highly unusual conciliatory words come as Pentagon officials and new US leadership in Afghanistan also focus on seeking peace with the Taliban, switching their military efforts to destroying ISIS' Afghan franchise, the so-called Islamic State in Khorasan (ISIS-K).

ISIS-K is seen as the most dangerous potential threat to US and other Western security evolving in Afghanistan. US defence department officials said that while the Taliban continued to be a source of instability, it was unlikely to pose any kind of international danger. "It's ISIS and al Qaeda we should be going after," said one US officer, who did not want to be named.

There is a strong view in the US' defence and intelligence departments that its forces should not pull out of Afghanistan until the threat from ISIS has been eliminated -- and a fear that the entire Afghan operation, involving about 15,000 US troops and costing an estimated $45 billion this year, risked being shut down on a whim by the Trump administration.

BusinessSee These 4 Habits That Will Make You Poor For Life by UniqueBaze(op): 10:07am On Sep 03, 2018
What’s difference between the poor and the wealthy? Most people would say that rich people have more money than poor people. Duh.

But the actual difference between the rich and the poor is not in how much money each of them has, but in the minds. It’s in how they see money and the kind of habits and actions they make regarding money.

Someone once remarked that if all the money in the world was evenly distributed to all the people on earth, most of the money would still fall into the same hands of a few individuals. Evidently, wealth is a mindset, and so is poverty.

These are some habits that will make you poor.

1. Bad spending habits
Habits that will make you poor
(Photo: Gfycat)
Most poor people only think of money as something they can buy stuff with. People like this tend to rack up a lot of debt before their salary comes in. They also try to gamble, in the hopes that they will blow all at once.

If you’ve got bad spending habits, you’ll keep looking for money oo! Money tends to multiply in the hands of people that don’t waste it and try to multiply it. That’s one of the lessons we learned from ‘The Richest Man In Babylon’.

2. You’re a time waster
Habits that will make you poor
(Photo: Giphy)
Time wasting is definitely one of the habits that will make you poor. Yeah, you might think it’s fun to scroll through Instagram for hours and hours, liking and reposting content made by people who are earning thousand for every post they make, but rich people know that time is a valuable resource and treat it that way.

3. No investments or side hustle
You know you’re thinking like poor person when you’re not thinking on how you can (legally) multiply your money. All you do is spend your income and wait for the next one to come in. You’re looking for trouble if all your eggs are in one basket.

4. Bad savings habit

(Photo: Giphy)
People are generally advised to save at least 10% of their income, but most poor people will say that their income is too small to let them save. Rich people tend to save as much as 20% or more of their income.

You’re reading this, so we’are sure you won’t be poor! Read up on some kinds of poverty mentality you’ll need to avoid.

PoliticsSalary Of State Governors In Nigeria, Salary Of Their Deputies And Commissioners by UniqueBaze(op): 9:57am On Sep 03, 2018
Salary of State Governors in Nigeria
Nigerian State Governors are one of the highest earning political office holders not just in Nigeria but globally.

Not withstanding the latest downwards review of salaries of political office holders by the revenue mobilization and fiscal commission, salaries of state Governors in Nigeria still ranks among the highest in the country and most of them are rated as the richest politicians in Nigeria.

Nigerian Governors are one of the most influential political office holders in Politics in Nigeria. In Nigerian politics, they are in control of the state’s funds and other administrative duties within the state. In addition to these, they are the Leaders of their party and they are also in control of the party structure in their respective States.

In this post, we shall highlight the monthly Salary of State Governors in Nigeria, the deputy state Governors and salaries of the commissioners. The figures are based on the data released by RMAFC.

The monthly basic salary of state Governors in Nigeria is about 2.2 million Naira. The monthly basic salary is in addition to other allowances and entitlements which can rise up to 5 million naira. The allowances and entitlements varies from state to state but the basic salary is the same across all the states in the federation.

One cannot really ascertain the amount carted home monthly by each of the State Governors since their allowances are based on their respective States. Though it is purported that Governors of the Oil-rich States and states with high internally generated income earn more allowances.

Monthly basic salary of deputy Governors in Nigeria is N2.11 million naira while the state commissioners earn N1.33 million as basic salary monthly.

Currently, salary of State Governors in Nigeria has been reduced compared to what their predecessors earned. This is because of the financial management policies adopted by the current administration of the country. The policy is not applicable to state Governors in Nigeria only, but other top political office holders.
How do you feel about this reduction? Are you in support or against? Have your say via the comment box below.

Thanks for reading. Please share!

The champions looked on course for a comfortable evening when Mario Mandzukic netted after two minutes, but Parma made life difficult for their esteemed guests until the former Croatia international intervened again to tee up Blaise Matuidi's winner.

Gervinho had drawn Parma level on his full debut and the hosts could have led at the interval, before their momentum waned following the restart.

There was still no breakthrough for Juve new boy Cristiano Ronaldo, though, as his barren start to life in Italy continues beyond an international break during which he will miss action for Portugal.

SportsWalker Stunner Ensure Man City Victory by UniqueBaze(op): 11:35am On Sep 02, 2018
Kyle Walker's scored his first Manchester City goal in sensational fashion to hand the Premier League champions a hard-fought 2-1 win over Newcastle United.

Newcastle undermined their bid to stifle City during the opening stages by carelessly coughing up possession in dangerous areas.

Riyad Mahrez was unable to punish Rondon's slackness but, when returning Magpies captain Jamaal Lascelles passed straight to Benjamin Mendy, the full-back found Sterling to cut inside for an emphatic finish.

Gabriel Jesus passed up two clear chances to increase City's advantage and there was an air of complacency when their disorganised backline allowed Rondon to slide a fine cross into the path of the rampaging DeAndre Yedlin to equalise.

The game resumed its pattern early in the second half until a darting dribble from Sterling created the opening for Walker to crash home his rasping 30 yarder eight minutes before the hour.

SportsMourinho: Alexis To Use Break To Help Lift Man Utd by UniqueBaze(op): 11:23am On Sep 02, 2018
Jose Mourinho says Alexis Sanchez will use the upcoming international break to help lift Manchester United's season.

The Red Devils have made a stuttering start to the new Premier League season, losing back-to-back games against Brighton and Tottenham.

Alexis has also endured early-season struggles, having missed United's 3-2 defeat against Brighton through injury.

However, the forward came off the bench against Tottenham and will not play any part in Chile's double-header against Japan and South Korea, in a major boost to United.

And Mourinho says the 29-year-old is planning to use the two-week international break to improve his fitness ahead of a busy schedule for United.

Mourinho told the club's official website: “He’s [Alexis] not going to the national team for these two friendlies in Japan and South Korea, which is good news for us because after that we play Watford and then immediately play [in the] Champions League [away at Young Boys].

“He’s committed, he’s focused, he works hard. I believe that he will improve.

“I didn’t ask [Alexis], I never ask players not to go [on international duty] and I never contact national teams for players not to go."

CrimeOMG!! “I Slept With Your Husbands” – 7 Year Old Girl Tells Housewives by UniqueBaze(op): 9:11pm On Sep 01, 2018
A 7 year old girl has confirmed to two housewives that she slept with their husbands. It has been discovered that two married men continually defiled a 7-year-old girl in their compound in Lagos.

The suspects, Mr. Osuntunbo Dare, 42 and Idowu Gbolahan, 29, who live at Sanusi Street in Shomolu, Lagos, both sexually abused their neighbour’s daughter separately and were each not aware that the other was doing the same thing.

The abuse which began in 2017 continued into 2018 until the girl’s mother suspected, checked her private part and found out her daughter had been defiled.

It was at this point that the girl opened up and fingered Dare and Gbolahan as the culprits.

Investigation revealed that Dare was the first to begin assaulting the girl in 2017. Then in 2018, Gbolahan joined to rape the girl on multiple occasions. Both men threatened the girl not to reveal their actions to anyone.

Dare and Gbolahan were arrested after the matter was reported to the police at the Gender Section of the Command, P.M. Express reports. Their wives were also informed and the girl confirmed to the women that their husbands had been sexually assaulting her.

It was at the police station that Dare and Gbolahan discovered that they were both sleeping with the victim after the girl confronted them before the police. They were found culpable and charged before the Ogba Magistrates court for the alleged offence. The court ordered them to be remanded in prison without taking their plea.

EventsA Nairalander's Experience In Anambra State, Enugwu Agidi Precisely. by UniqueBaze(op): 7:38pm On Sep 01, 2018
Coming home from a musical event in Enugwu-Agidi, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, I felt like its necessary to share my experience not about the event but actually the journey itself.

The event was the burial of the second wife of HRH Okafor in Enugwu-Agidi, Mrs. Helen Joy Okafor. While on our way home, it rained heavily and the disfigured route was exposed and we all, the members of UNIQUE INT'L BAND became totally disappointed and nearly devastated.

This article is actually not to mock the indigenes of Enugwu-Agidi or Make them feel bad about their roads neither did I put this article together to cajole the government of Anambra state as I am also an Anambralian. The major aim is to make an effort in drawing the attention of the government both state and local to that area.

Please, come to our aid.

Here are some graphic pictures of the roads.

PoliticsSee Why Saraki Declared For Presidency Today by UniqueBaze(op): 12:30pm On Aug 30, 2018
Barring last minutes change of plans, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, will today make formal declaration of his intent to vie for the office of the president on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) come 2019, LEADERSHIP exclusively learnt last night.

The declaration will take place at an elaborate event billed for Abuja. As a part of the last-minute preparation for the declaration, which will be attended by governors, members of the National Assembly and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Saraki yesterday visited former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja, where the duo met behind closed-doors.

Multiple sources told LEADERSHIP that Saraki had gone to intimate Jonathan of his aspiration before its formal declaration today after paying similar visits to former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Ibrahim Babangida, former head of state Abdulsalami Abubakar, elder statesman Chief Edwin Clark and some PDP governors, among other party stakeholders.
Saraki, a two-term governor of Kwara State, had aspired to become President in 2014 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before shelving his ambition for a return to the senatorial seat of Kwara Central in the Senate in 2015.

Details of the event are shrouded in secrecy in order to avoid the type of treatment meted out to another PDP presidential aspirant, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who declared his bid yesterday in Abuja at a different venue other than the popular Eagle Square, which his campaign team earlier paid for, after last-minute official refusal of use of the public facility by its managers over curious excuses.

LEADERSHIP reports that the APC-led federal government and Saraki have been involved in cat and mouse game since after the defection of Saraki from APC to PDP on July 31, 2018, a development that led to the dramatic siege laid to the National Assembly by the operatives of the DSS on August 7, 2018. While the leadership of the APC is insisting on Saraki’s resignation or impeachment from the office of the Senate President having defected to an opposition party, the latter amid his supporters maintained that the position is not a party affair but that of the 2/3 majority of Senators.

Barring last-minute change of plan, Saraki’s declaration of intent to vie for the office of the President will add him to the long list of presidential aspirants from the opposition PDP, which has former vice President Atiku Abubakar, former governors Ahmed Makarfi and Sule Lamido, former minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), incumbent governors of Gombe and Sokoto states, Ibrahim Dankwambo and Aminu Waziri Tambuwal respectively.

PoliticsAs A Phd Holder, I Wouldn’t Bother Myself Writing Someone Who Doesn’t Have A WAE by UniqueBaze(op): 10:47am On Aug 30, 2018
Former President,OLUSEGUN Obasanjo, has berated President Muhammadu Buhari for not possessing West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate

Obasanjo and Buhari were political allies with the former supporting the latter to emerge president in the 2015 election.

Earlier in the year they both parted ways with Obasanjo writing an open letter urging Buhari to shelves his re-election bid.

The president who did not heed the advise declared his intention to contest for a second term.

The two leaders who ruled the country during the military era at different regimes has continued to attack themselves at any given opportunity.

The former president hinted that he would have penned down another letter but decided not to stoop so low having obtained his PhD.

He said writing the new letter might belittle his personality.

CelebritiesSee 20 Stars That Are Way Older Than You Think by UniqueBaze(op): 11:45am On Aug 27, 2018
These famous faces look younger than they actually are.
There’s a good chance that while you were watching this year’s Oscars you checked your phone at least once to search, “How old is that person?” (At least we did—especially when it came to these 10 Over-65 Leading Ladies Who Look Amazing.) Because let’s face it: In 2018, guessing a celebrity’s age is way harder than it used to be. And given current diet and wellness trends, it’s only going to get harder. For proof, click on and be amazed by these seemingly ageless A-Listers. And for more incredible celebrity facts, check out 50 Crazy Celebrity Facts You Won’t Believe Are True.
1
Pharrell Williams — 44
Being “Happy” must keep you young. The guy behind the most infectious/annoying (depending on your viewpoint) song of 2014, not to mention a few hundred other hits for everyone from Beyonce to Jay-Z to Robin Thicke, is much older then he appears.
He could probably pass for a college kid if he wanted to, but Williams has been around for a lot longer than you probably realized. Fun fact: he helped produce Wreckx-N-Effect’s 1992 hit “Rump Shaker.” This guy has had a long career.
2
Jim Parsons — 44
Not only has Parsons been playing the same character for more than a decade, it’s a character who’s socially stunted, still living in an apartment with roommates, and partial to comic book t-shirts—all of which gives him the look and vibe of an overgrown teenager. It’s working for him though, the perpetually youthful Parsons could pull off at least a decade younger, though it can be hard to take him seriously in more “adult” roles. And if you want to shave years off your life instantly check out these 15 Men’s Haircuts That Will Make You Look Younger.
3
Salma Hayek — 51
It’s kind of insane that the beauty from Desperado is over 50, and she continues to stun as she did throughout awards season—not only with her looks but her creative output and activism. Though her character in Beatriz at Dinner was hardly meant to be a glamorous character, Hayek’s natural beauty shone through (and helped earn her a Best Actress nomination from the Independent Spirit Awards).
4
Julianne Moore — 57
Approaching 60 and looking better than ever, Moore looks like she hasn’t aged much since The Big Lebowski . Even when she’s playing the gray-haired president in Hunger Games, it’s hard to imagine that Moore’s not a decade younger than her actual age. And for some great tips on turning back the clock yourself, check out the 100 Best Anti-Aging Secrets!
5
Jared Leto — 46
Maybe it’s the stories of his childish/creepy antics getting into character for Suicide Squad , or the fact he’s still touring with his rock band in his free time, but it’s hard to think of Leto as a guy who’s fully grown up. At 47, Leto still seems to give his all to every role and seems to approach the world with the wide-eyed passion he exhibits toward a certain green coat. And to learn more about Leto’s secret to aging, check out these 20 Secrets of Ageless Celebrities.
6
Anna Kendrick — 32
Her character in the Pitch Perfectfranchise just graduated college, but Kendrick is in her 30s. The actress has the energy of college kid and still seems as fresh-faced and precocious as she was in Up in the Air . It’s hard to believe that movie came out almost a decade ago.
7
Keanu Reeves — 52
On the one hand, it’s hard to remember a time when we didn’t have Keanu in our lives. The man has had a long and storied career, reinventing the action genre several times all while seeming like he was barely trying. On the other hand, can you believe Keanu’s over 50? Even as the battle-hardened and disenchanted John Wick, the guy still seems much younger than that.
8
Angela Bassett — 59
Angela Bassett has always had the presence and control of an actress who had been doing this forever, but while she’s always seemed wise beyond her years, it’s easy to forget that now, pushing 60, she’s actually something of an elder. She used that to her advantage as she went full regal in Black Panther, and even as she had a commanding presence, she looked great doing it. And if you’d like to look as good as Bassett, be sure to ditch the 20 Beauty Products You Should Never Use.
9
Reese Witherspoon — 41
This ebullient actress is a master at not just being warm and magnetic, but exploring the less savory aspects of perkiness, from Election to her recent smash success with Big Little Lies . But even when she gets into dark territory, it’s hard to think of her as a fortysomething.
10
Paul Rudd — 48
Ant-Man may have the power to shrink and grow at will, but Rudd appears able to halt the aging process by his sheer charm. This guy looks so young, there are games that challenge you to figure out which version of him is younger—and it’s darn near impossible, even when they’re more than a decade apart. The fact that he’s pushing 50 is almost impossible to believe. For more celebrity fun facts, don’t miss these 20 Celebrity Friendships You Never Knew Existed.
11
Carey Mulligan — 32
Though her career rise has been fast, Mulligan is a bit more of an acting veteran than she appears (and that’s not just because she’s partial to period films). While her petite size and youthful face makes her a good fit for ingénue roles, she has been in the business for almost a decade and a half. Now a mother of two, you’d be forgiven for thinking she was a decade younger than she actually is.
12
Drew Barrymore — 43
Barrymore has been in our lives since E.T. , but it’s still hard to think of her as a fortysomething. While she’s expanded from acting into directing, producing, and her own fashion line, she still has the quirky, friendly vibe of someone half her age.
13
Ellie Kemper — 37
Kemper has cornered the market on cheery, energetic (if kind of naïve) optimists. All that bubbliness seems to keep her feeling young, because it’s hard watching Kimmy Schmidt to believe that she’s not in her 20s.
14
Samuel L. Jackson — 69
The guy has been kicking butt for decades and if the trailer for Infinity War is any indication, he’s just getting started. But while Jackson has come to embody a youthful swagger and shows no sign of slowing down, with 176 credits to his name and counting, he’s also well past retirement age.
15
Rob Lowe — 53
This guy’s career has had about seven acts at this point, from Brat Pack heartthrob to scandalized pariah, SNLmovie villain, and reliably fun TV star. For someone who has been through so many rebirths, you’d think he’d be showing his age more, but at 53, Lowe still looks fit, chipper, and younger than his years.
16
Gabrielle Union — 45
Gaining early attention for her moves in Bring It On, it’s easy to imagine that Union would still have little trouble tackling a tough cheerleading routine. She looks as good as ever and even though she’s well into her 40s, you’d be forgiven for thinking she was two-thirds her actual age.
17
Seth Green — 44
Sure, this guy has recently spent more time behind the camera, creating Robot Chicken or voicing Chris Griffin on Family Guy , but when he pops up in shows and on red carpets, he doesn’t look like he’s aged since he was playing Dr. Evil’s angry teenage son. It seems spending over a decade playing with action figures can keep you young.
18
Matthew McConaughey — 48
Speaking of surfer dudes—or Surfer, Dude— it’s hard to beat McConaughey in the laid-back department. Even after he’s become a full-blown “serious actor,” he still seems barely older than his twentysomething character in Dazed and Confused, who enjoyed hanging around high school girls. We get older. He stays the same age.
19
Ice Cube — 48
It’s hard to picture one of our all-time favorite rappers pushing 50. The rapper has moved seamlessly into a career in acting, writing, and now producing his own mega-successful biopic, but still seems like he could party like he was a teenager.
20
Demetri Martin — 44
The mop top really subtracts the years. With his signature bowl haircut and deadpan delivery, this standup comic and the writer/director/illustrator behind the recent indie flick Dean still looks like he’s in high school. Then again, it might be all those clever doodles he does that gives him the still-in-school vibe.

Foreign AffairsIran Mps Vote To Remove Economy Minister Amid Financial Crisis by UniqueBaze(op): 9:56am On Aug 27, 2018
Iran's parliament has voted to remove the economy minister from office as the country battles an economic crisis. Masoud Karbasian was targeted by a no-confidence vote over problems in the banking system, tax regulation and his failure to fix the economy.

The move comes three weeks after Labour Minister Ali Rabiei was ousted in a similar process. President Hassan Rouhani's government has struggled to control rising prices and the falling value of the currency. The re-imposition of sanctions by the US after its withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal has exacerbated the crisis.

On Sunday, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif accused the US of launching a "psychological war against Iran and its business partners", Tasnim news agency reported. Mr Karbasian lost the vote of confidence by 137 votes to 121 with two abstentions. The result was broadcast live on state radio. President Rouhani, a political moderate, is facing criticism from hardliners but also from within the reformist bloc that supports his government.

PoliticsEmmanuel’s Supporters Hold Lagos Rally As Akpabio’s Godfather Backs Governor by UniqueBaze(op): 10:48am On Aug 26, 2018
The Akwa Ibom State Government has said nobody can deter Governor Udom Emmanuel from seeking re-election in 2019.

The Personal Assistant to the wife of the governor on Protocol Matters, Mrs Nsikan Ukpanah, who spoke to journalists during a rally by Emmanuel’s supporters in Lagos, on Saturday, said the governor’s followers were not intimidated.

READ ALSO: Ngige dares Oshiomhole again, delays NSITF board inauguration

Asked if ex-governor Godswill Akpabio’s defection to the All Progressives Congress could pose a problem for Emmanuel’s re-election bid, Ukpanah said, “The people of Akwa Ibom voted the governor when they didn’t even know him. Now that they know him, they will vote him again.

“We are not intimidated or afraid of anybody. One man is not enough to make the governor stay back; it is the people that matter. These people (supporters) that came out were not sponsored by the governor. They invited me. You can see them in the rain; they are passionate about the governor. That is to show you that the governor deserves a second term.”

Ukpanah advised Akwa Ibom indigenes in Lagos to transfer their voter cards to Uyo, “because we are going to vote the governor back to the seat of power.”

According to her, the people of Akwa Ibom are proud of Emmanuel and his feats since he assumed office in 2015.

Meanwhile, a political godfather of Senator Akpabio, Chief Michael Afangide, has joined the campaign for Emmanuel’s re-election.

Ninety-eight-year-old Afangide who is one of the frontline elders in the state, said he was supporting Emmanuel because of his detribalised approach to governance and seriousness in providing infrastructure in the state.
