China has said it is “irresponsible” of President Trump to suggest it was not putting enough pressure on North Korea over its nuclear programme. Mr Trump had tweeted that China was “not helping” because of trade tensions with the US. A Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said this was “contrary to basic facts” and China was “seriously concerned”. On Thursday Mr Trump called off US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s planned trip to North Korea. He said that insufficient progress was being made in dismantling Pyongyang’s nuclear programme. After his summit with the North Korean leader in June, Mr Trump said the country was no longer a nuclear threat. But since then there have been several reports that it is failing to dismantle its nuclear facilities. One of the most recent warnings came from unnamed US officials, who told the Washington Post that North Korea appeared to be building new intercontinental ballistic missiles. Human rights lawyer Femi Falana SAN has dragged Uganda and President Yoweri Museveni to the UN over allegations of grave human rights violations in that country. Yoweri Museveni of Uganda In the urgent appeal sent Friday Falana asked the special rapporteurs to use their good offices and position to “urgently investigate ongoing reports of clampdown on the rights to freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, association, media freedom and to human dignity in Uganda.” The urgent appeal dated 23 August 2018 was sent to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression, Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association, Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders and Special Rapporteur on torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. The urgent appeal addressed to Mr. Seong-Phil HONG, Ms. Agnes CALLAMARD, Mr. David KAYE, Mr. Clement Nyaletsossi VOULE, Mr. Michel FORST, and Mr. Nils MELZER read “I am seriously concerned that the Ugandan authorities continue to arbitrarily arrest, detain and brutally beat, torture and humiliate critics, journalists, human rights defenders, activists, lawyers and opposition leaders and supporters. There are also several cases of unlawful killings during arrests. The authorities hardly investigate allegations of human rights violations and abuses.” “I urge you to closely monitor and scrutinise the human rights situation in Uganda and to take a more decisive role in combating years of impunity for human rights violations and abuses and erosion of the rule of law as well as the violation of general principles of justice in that country. I strongly believe that ending impunity and achieving justice in Uganda is central to promoting and ensuring full respect for all human rights.” “The government continues to deploy a range of tactics to stifle critical reporting, from occasional physical violence to threats, intimidation, bureaucratic interference, and arrest. Station managers of television and radio outfits and journalists often face reprisals if their programmes are deemed critical of the authorities.” "Ugandan laws such as the 2013 regressive Public Order Management Act, which grants police wide discretionary powers to permit or disallow gatherings continue to be used to ban protests and opposition rallies, arrest opposition members and commit other atrocities. Cases of prolonged illegal detention, torture and well-documented killings during protests, by security forces, remain unaddressed.” “Among several examples of grave human rights violations are: stopping academic Stella Nyanzi, from boarding a flight to the Netherlands to attend a conference on the ground that she criticised President Yoweri Museveni and his wife, regarding the authorities’ failure to fulfil their commitment to provide sanitary towels in girls’ schools; and the abduction of the Nation TV journalist Gertrude Tumusiime Uwitware by unknown assailants for several hours, simply for posting her support for Stella Nyanzi on social media.” “Others are the summoning of editors Arinaitwe Rugyendo of the Red Pepper newspaper and the online Daily Monitor, and Charles Bichachi of the Nation Media Group solely for publishing stories on the presidential age limit debate.” “Other cases include politically motivated charges against two journalists Herbert Zziwa and Ronald Muwanga on the flimsy ground that they reported allegations of assault on members of the press by security personnel regarding political unrest in northern Uganda’s Arua District; harassment by security personnel of Julius Bakabaage, John Kibalizi, and Benson Ongom, all journalists with the privately owned NBS Television for doing their job; and raids on the ActionAid Uganda’s offices in Kansanga, an area of Kampala, preventing staff from leaving the premises for several hours.” Brought to you by uniquebaze.com

•Chief Lot Ikuesan By Olasunkanmi Akoni & Monsuru Olowoopejo An erstwhile sleepy and peaceful Ito-Agan, a riverine community in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, has been turned into a ghost town following the alleged sacking of the over 5,000 residents including the Baale, Chief Lot Ikuesan, 84, by people alleged to be land grabbers from nearby Agbojedo. The community in dispute, it was gathered, was founded in 1905 by some settlers said to be progenitors of Ikuesan. The settlers, according to natives, were predominately Ilaje from Ondo State who migrated to the Island as a result of opportunities in fishing and crayfish. When our correspondent visited Ito-Agan and Agbojedo communities, it was observed that property worth millions of naira had been destroyed while some were carted away by the invaders. Residents narrated that the crisis, which had stalled the crayfish and fishing business chain in both communities, started over chieftaincy and boundary disputes between two rival groups, even as Ikuesan was said to be the Baale of both communities before 2017 when the disagreement started. While the Baale of Agbojedo, Abiye Akinmuleya, allegedly demanded that the two communities be separated and each chief controls his territory, Ikuesan insisted there was no boundary when his progenitors discovered and settled on the Island. But the crisis got to a head when Ikuesan allegedly instructed his aides to collect levies from boat operators and fishermen at the shore connecting both communities. Eyewitnesses said that while some operators and fishermen obliged, others kicked against the move, arguing that they do not reside nor operate under the community head’s territory. A resident, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, narrated that the refusal resulted into violent confrontation at the shore, leaving several persons injured. During an interview with Sunday Vanguard at his hideout, Ikuesan alleged: “Some people planned to kidnap me in order to take over both communities. “When the plan failed, they resorted into attacking those who were opposed to Akinmuleya’s claims to the title. And this resulted in many abandoning their property in the community as people we believed were from them invaded the community.” The Chairman of School Based Management Committee, SBMC, in the area, Pastor Alaba Asemudara, alleged that many were still admitted in different hospitals after sustaining gunshot wounds. He also alleged that policemen deployed to the community to restore peace aided the hoodlums “to attack our community because while they were shooting, the policemen looked the other way.” In the wake of the crisis, Ikuesan, through his lawyer, Mr.Ige Asemudara, approached a Magistrate Court in Apapa Magisterial District for redress. The 17 respondents in the case, led by Mr. Abiye Akinmuleya, who were summoned to appear before Magistrate N. Layeni, shunned the court on several occasions. Subsequently, in an interim order brought under motion exparte, the court restrained “the first respondent, acting in concert with the 2nd–17th respondents, from parading himself as the Baale of Ito-Agan village or doing any act that may undermine the lawful authority of the applicant over Ito-Agan or likely to cause breach of peace in the community.” On August 13, 2018, the lawyer petitioned the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, Zone 2 Command over the activities of the suspected land grabbers in Ito-Agan. The lawyer said the suspects invaded the community with men believed to be from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS. According to him, his client and other community leaders had been displaced from their homes. He went further to say that some of the houses had been demolished by the invading land grabbers. Asemudara had earlier petitioned the AIG on March 29, 2018, alleging threat to the life of Ikuesan and his subjects. “Instead of the police investigating the allegation that there was a plot to kidnap him, the community leaders and 20 others were arrested by policemen from Festac and Alakija Divisions as well as those from SARS, Ikeja. “Ikuesan was later released on August 9, while others were charged before a Magistrate Court and are still in custody. “While Ikuesan and others were in detention, the alleged land grabbers, accompanied by thugs, invaded the community and destroyed properties worth millions of naira, while forcefully ejecting residents. The residents cannot return to their various homes for fear of being killed. The children will also be affected when schools resume soon.” Asemudara also alleged that his client had continuously been unlawfully arrested and hounded into detention since August 5, 2018. Popular singer, Yinka Ayefele, has reacted after pictures of him purportedly begging the Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, went viral on Friday. Ayefele met with the Governor on Thursday, after the State Government partially demolished the singer’s Music House last Sunday. The demolition sparked public outcry, and on Thursday, the governor set up a meeting with the singer, his younger brother and his publicist. Ayefele gave details of the meeting through his publicist, David Ajiboye thus: “On Thursday, we were at a meeting organised by the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria at Golden Tulip when we got a call from one of the governorship aspirants in the state. He told us that the governor would like to see us. I was at the BON meeting with Yinka Ayefele and his younger brother. “We felt that since they were the ones that invited us, we should honour the governor’s call; so we excused ourselves from the BON meeting and went to the governor’s office. We got there at about 12noon, but the governor did not get to his office till about 4 pm. We did not leave the governor’s office until about 7 pm. I was at the meeting with Yinka Ayefele and his younger brother,” he said. Ajiboye noted that although they insisted on having a closed-door meeting with the Governor, they were shocked when pictures surfaced on Twitter a few minutes into the meeting. “When the governor came into the office, we all prostrated to greet him being that he is older than us and we told them that we did not want cameras. “We wanted a closed-door meeting with the governor so he asked the pressmen to excuse us but his private photographer did not leave the room. We noticed that while we were talking with the governor, the photographer was taking our pictures and uploading them on their Twitter handle immediately. “The governor later invited his team to come and join us in the meeting; his team comprised the commissioner for information, a governorship aspirant in the state and about four special assistants. “The governor told us his grievances. He told us that he could have saved the situation if only we had come to see him. He felt we ought to have come to beg him and our chairman, Yinka Ayefele, pointed it out that we had since told the commissioner for information to book an appointment with the governor. “He further said that he called the SSG to help him book an appointment with the governor even before this incident happened and the commissioner corroborated his claims but said that the governor was unavailable at the time,” Ajiboye added. It is orchestrated by Toye Arulogun, Commissioner for info and Culture in Oyo State’’. Murders are always disturbing, but some are even worse than that. These killings were brutal, almost unimaginable in their depravity. The crimes horrified communities and stumped police — leaving questions that lingered for decades afterward, as years passed without an arrest or even a credible suspect. As Netflix probes the cold case murder of a Baltimore nun in new docuseries The Keepers , TIME takes a look back at some of the most high-profile killings from the past 150 years. They vary in their details, but they all have one thing in common: a killer who has never been found. Here are six of the most vexing murder mysteries of all time: 1. Jack the Ripper terrorized London London’s most notorious serial killer prowled the East End over a century ago, preying on prostitutes and terrorizing the area. He made his mark as Jack the Ripper by killing and mutilating at least five women. Dread grew as the dead bodies began to pile up near each other within a three-month period in 1888. The neighborhood was “horrified to a degree bordering on panic,” when news broke of a second female victim, The Morning Post reported at the time. The local newspaper called the killing “barbarous,” and said the manner of the murder was “too horrible for description.” Local authorities at first wondered whether the suspect was a butcher or a doctor due to his signature and gory method of murder — and his skill with a knife. The victims of the so-called “Whitechapel Murders” — Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes and Mary Jane Kelly — all had their throats slashed, and most of them had their stomachs slit and organs ripped out before being dumped on the streets, according to author Dave Yost, who explores the five deaths in his book Elizabeth Stride and Jack the Ripper. The FBI , which analyzed the case in 1988 at the behest of a movie production company, said each victim was known to be a heavy drinker and a prostitute. They were all targeted “because they were readily accessible” and were killed swiftly in the early morning hours. Even with all eyes on the case, police were never able to put a face to the killer. The FBI said local investigations were stymied because forensic technology and other advanced means of thoroughly investigating homicides were “nonexistent” at the time. The National Archives obtained letters exchanged between different law enforcement bosses in 1888 that depict overwhelmed police departments. Charles Warren, who was the chief commissioner of the Metropolitan Police at the time, asked for help from the City of London Police. “We are inundated with suggestions and names of suspects,” Warren wrote. Countless historians and criminologists — both amateur and professional — have speculated on the killer’s identity, but it appears Jack the Ripper took his secret to the grave. 2. The Black Dahlia’s grisly death captured headlines The sight stopped a mother and her child in their tracks. A naked woman was lying feet from the sidewalk. She was sliced cleanly in half at the waist, with not one drop of blood on her. The now-infamous slaying of 22-year-old Elizabeth Short instantly captured headlines in 1947, with newspapers later dubbing her the “ Black Dahlia” in part because she had dark hair and an apparent preference for black clothing. Short, a Massachusetts native who had come to California in pursuit of fame, was bled dry before being dumped in an empty lot in a residential area of Los Angeles, authorities said. Her body appeared professionally dissected, and one breast was cut off, according to FBI records . It’s unclear how the aspiring actor met such a grisly fate. Several dozens of people have claimed credit for the high-profile crime. The FBI, which helped local authorities investigate at the time, said it ran record checks on potential suspects and conducted interviews across the nation. However, none of the confessors appeared to be telling the truth, and the case has gone unsolved. The murder became the subject of a 1987 novel, followed by a 2006 movie starring Josh Hartnett, Hilary Swank, Aaron Eckhart and Mia Kirshner. The Los Angeles Police Department told TIME recently that it is still investigating the cold case, although it did not provide any details. “It’s an unsolved case,” LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman said. “There is no additional information per the detectives.” 3. The Zodiac Killer taunted police with clues The “Zodiac Killer” was no ordinary murderer. Rather than avoiding the spotlight, he craved media attention and seemed to enjoy taunting police with cryptic notes and clues as he left a trail of death behind him. The Zodiac Killer murdered five people — seemingly at random — in northern California in 1968 and 1969. He claimed in letters to police that there were dozens more victims, although that was never confirmed. His deadly rampage began in December 1968, when two teenagers were shot to death in a parking lot. About seven months later, another two people were shot in a parked car, although one survived. That’s when local newspapers started getting letters from someone anonymously claiming to be responsible for the slayings, according to the San Francisco Examiner , which had received the cryptic notes. The newspaper said the letters contained coded messages explaining the killer’s motive, as well as a key to help readers decipher his identity. “This is the Zodiac speaking,” he wrote in an August letter. “I like killing people because it is so much fun,” he added, according to FBI records . “It is more fun than killing wild game in the forest because man is the most dangerous animal of all.” Authorities did not crack the code revealing his name, and the Zodiac Killer went on to stab two more people in late September. One of the victims survived, and the other died. About two weeks later, the killer struck again, fatally shooting a 29-year-old taxi driver, according to the Examiner . Days later, the Zodiac mailed a piece of his latest victim’s bloody shirt to the Chronicle newspaper. To this day, no suspects have been confirmed in the case. The San Francisco Police Department said the investigation is ongoing. 4 and 5. Rappers Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G. were gunned down 6 months apart The music world was rocked in the late 1990s when rap superstars Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G. were gunned down about six months apart. The killings came at a moment marked by intense rivalry between their competing record labels. Both rappers were the top artists for their record companies. Many said the murders were a sign music feuds had gone too far. Shakur was killed first, in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas on Sept. 13, 1996. At the time, the 25-year-old superstar’s Death Row record label had been feuding with its competitor, Bad Boy. Six months later, Bad Boy’s Christopher Wallace — better known as the Notorious B.I.G., Biggie Smalls or Biggie — was killed in a similar fashion. The rapper was fatally shot in a drive-by as he was leaving a music industry party in Los Angeles. The two superstars had been friends when both were signed under Bad Boy, according to the FBI , which investigated Biggie’s murder but closed the case in 2005. The pals grew distant after Tupac landed in jail over convictions that included rape, and Biggie rose in popularity. Tupac later switched over to Death Row. It’s unclear whether the rivalry played a role in either killing. Both cases stumped police, in part because of uncooperative witnesses. The murder mysteries amassed their own collection of theories, including an unproven one that claims both rappers are still alive and faked their own deaths. Family and friends of the megastars are still mourning. In March, on the 20th anniversary of Biggie’s death, Sean “Diddy” Combs paid tribute to his late friend in an Instagram video. “On this day we’re going to reflect on him because we miss him,” he said. “And 20 years later, time heals all wounds, but this one ain’t healed yet.” 6. JonBenet Ramsey was found dead in her family home JonBenet Ramsey ‘s young, smiling face stared out from newspaper front pages and television screens all across the country in the months after the 6-year-old beauty queen was found dead in the basement of her family’s Colorado home. The crime stunned the quiet and affluent neighborhood in Boulder, Colo. JonBenet, a beauty pageant winner, had been discovered beaten and strangled, with duct tape placed on her mouth and throat, on the day after Christmas in 1996. This was already disturbing enough to draw national attention — but JonBenet’s own family quickly fell under scrutiny, and many who had followed the story began to speculate on whether her parents were somehow involved. JonBenet’s mother, Patricia, told police she woke up early that morning to find her daughter missing. She called 911 to report a kidnapping, saying she found a nearly 3-page ransom note demanding $118,000. Hours later, JonBenet’s father, John, told police he discovered his daughter’s body in the basement. An autopsy determined that JonBenet died of asphyxiation caused by strangulation, according to the Denver Post . Her death was ruled a homicide. The Ramseys immediately fell under a cloud of suspicion, but no one was ever charged in connection with JonBenet’s death. Her parents addressed the speculation for the first time during an interview with CNN in January. John Ramsey said the suggestion that his family was behind the crime was “nauseating beyond belief,” according to the Post . “I did not kill my daughter,” he told reporters again in May. Twenty years later, Boulder Police said the investigation is still open, although officials declined to comment on the case. “Our goal continues to be an arrest and successful prosecution,” Boulder Police Chief Greg Testa said last fall. “We have not and will not give up.” The recent 20th anniversary of JonBenet’s death was met with a wave of major network specials and new documentaries that explored potential suspects. JonBenet’s brother Burke Ramsey also spoke out for the first time. The 29-year-old said on Dr. Phil that he burst into tears when he first found out his sister was dead. “My dad told me JonBenet is in heaven now, and he started crying, then I started crying,” Burke Ramsey said. “I was kind of like, How is this possible? I started crying. I don’t think I said anything. I didn’t believe it at first.” Brought to you by uniquebaze.com |

It was a huge disappointment for supporters of Governor Udom Emmanuel, monday when a third republic Senator, Etang Umoyo, who was touted to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) failed to show up at the PDP Eket senatorial district rally for the endorsement of the governor for a second term. No explanation was offered by the organisers of the event for the ex-Senator’s absence but a family source claimed the ex-Senator was hospitalised last Sunday. Senator Umoyo, who represented Eket senatorial district from 1992 to 1993 last Friday held a chaotic meeting with some APC members in Esit Eket, his local government area, to inform them of his decamping, and the party members present challenged him with angry speeches and placards accusing him of receiving N10 million from the governor to destroy the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Esit Eket. To make up for the vocal ex-Senator’s absence at the endorsement rally, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, the Director-General of Udom’s campaign organisation hurriedly announced the defection of three APC members who are not from Eket Senatorial District and called the PDP state chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo to receive them. Udoma Ekarika and Obong Anny Asikpo, two of the decampees are from Ikot Ekpene senatorial district while Elder Emmanuel Udo, the immediate past APC Deputy Chairman, is from Uyo senatorial district. Ekarika who was lured into the PDP by the governor with the promise of deputy governor, alluded to this promise when he said “I will be privileged and opportuned to be in your team. That is when I will tell you what the APC is in Akwa Ibom State.” Brought to you by uniquebaze.com

Ever wake up in a cold sweat wondering which players have the most red cards in Premier League history? Don’t worry we’ve got you covered … Lee Cattermole – 7 red cards A combative midfielder who appeared in the Premier League for Middlesbrough, Wigan and Sunderland, Lee Cattermole has received red and yellow cards at a more frequent rate than any player in Premier League history. Affectionately nicknamed “Clattermole”, his no nonsense style of play saw him become a respected leader, captaining Middlesbrough aged just 18, but has also seen him receive seven red cards and 91 cautions. Having suffered back-to-back relegations with current club Sunderland, Cattermole will be the problem of League One referees this season. Roy Keane – 7 red cards A ferocious competitor and the captain of a Manchester United side that dominated English football in the 90’s and early 2000’s, Roy Keane was one of the most complete midfielders of his generation. A nasty enforcer who was tenacious in the tackle, Keane’s reputation was formed on his dominating drive with a tendency for a rash challenge. His season ending tackle on Manchester City‘s Alfe-Inge Haaland, later admitted in his autobiography to have been deliberate, brought infamy and was one of seven Premier League red cards. Keane was never far from controversy or the referee’s notebook. Patrick Viera – 8 red cards Brought to you by uniquebaze.com

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always certain of themselves and wiser people so full of doubts, Therefore in order to amend it before you speak, listen. Before you write, think. Before you spend, earn. Before you invest, investigate. Before you criticize, wait. Before you pray, forgive. Before you quit, try. Before you retire, save. Before you die, give. Because once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you will start having positive results. Brought to you by uniquebaze.com

A 2-year-old boy from Sukabumi, Indonesia, has become so addicted to smoking that he smokes up to 40 cigarettes a day. Rapi Ananda Pamungkas started by picking up used butts outside his mum’s market stall. Within days he became addicted and would endlessly pester passing shoppers to give him cigarettes. At first, the adults found the toddler’s demands novel and offered him cigarettes, thinking it was a joke. But Rapi – nicknamed Rap – soon started becoming aggressive and throwing tantrums when he couldn’t get cigarettes. Rapi’s mother, Maryati, 35, confessed on Monday that she buys two packs of cigarettes a day for the boy to stop him from going “beserk”. She said: “My child is used to smoking while drinking coffee and eating cake. He has been smoking every day for around two months. If I don’t give him a cigarette, my child goes berserk.” The mother said that it had been almost impossible to ban her child from smoking because he will “cry all day” if he can’t smoke. She added: “If Rapi doesn’t get cigarettes he cannot sleep. He will start rampaging and crying. It’s expensive, because we have to buy them for him. He likes to do it all day. He can smoke about 40 every day.” Rapi’s father, Misbahudin, 40, said he also smokes but doesn’t know why his child started the habit. He added: “I cannot say no to him when he asks for a cigarette. I don’t even smoke that often. I only smoke at work. When my son smokes he likes to have a cup of mochaccino.” The parents said they will take the toddler to see a doctor to try and get over his smoking addiction. A viral news currently trending have it that a young boy hacks government website in 10 minutes and changes election results. The 11-year-old boy named ‘Emmett Brewster’ was said to have hacked into a replica website used by the Florida Secretary of State to report election results and changed the election results once he gained access into the site. He was able to hack it in just 10 minutes. This happened last Friday at this year’s DEFCON hacking conference in Las Vegas. At the conference, Emmett and many other children were offered the chance to hack into a mock-up of a Secretary of State website. According to DEFCON spokespeople, the kids were offered 13 replicas of Secretary of State websites, with Florida being the first. Emmett succeeded in hacking Florida’s website in only a few minutes. Emmett was one of about 50 children between the ages of 8 and 16 who took part in a kid-specific workshop at this year’s hacker conference. According to Quartz, the kids were able to manipulate various things on the mock websites, including vote counts, candidate names, and party names. Brought to you by uniquebaze.com
