Politics / Brexit: UK Finally Exits From EU by uptimumOne23(m): 11:38am On Dec 31, 2020
After four years of wrangling, Brexit is finally DONE.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Wednesday signed Britain’s historic Brexit trade deal from the EU as MPs voted overwhelmingly in favour of the accord despite threats of a Labour Remainer rebellion.

The official copy of the hard-fought 1,200 page trade pact was signed by Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission.

Boris Johnson was then presented with the document in Number 10 as he did the honours and finally brought the curtain down on the Brexit saga which has dominated UK politics since the EU referendum in 2016.

“It has been a long road. It’s time now to put Brexit behind us. Our future is made in Europe,” von der Leyen said.

Mr. Johnson gave a thumbs up after inking what he described as “the beginning of what will be a wonderful relationship between the UK and our friends and partners in the EU”.

Britain will leave the European single market and customs union at 11:00 pm (2300 GMT) on Thursday, the end of a post-Brexit transition period marked by tortuous trade negotiations which culminated in the Christmas Eve deal.

London and Brussels would work “hand in glove whenever our values and interests coincide, while fulfilling the sovereign wish of the British people to live under their own sovereign laws made by their own sovereign parliament” Boris Johnson added.

Despite warnings that there will be more friction in trade due to breaking free from EU rules, the UK PM said the deal ‘if anything should allow companies to do even more business with our European friends, safeguarding millions of jobs and livelihoods in UK and across the continent’.

Mr. Johnson said for the first time since 1973 the UK would be an independent coastal nation, stressing that in five and a half years’ time after another transition Britain will have full control of its waters. ‘

That's why we must stand together to fight it..but then most of our youths who we are to fight it together are also currupt.

Pick ten youths and ask them if they are made Governor of a state, what would be their first step...you will see them start creating imaginary stories about how they are gonna embezzle funds, build house and buy cars for each of their family members, build mansions in banana Island, buy private jets and so on.

That's the mentality of most of the youths we have in this country. It's no wonder why they are called lazy youths.

Take a chill pill bruh... I understand how your feeling

We've been living in darkness all these years. We've been taken has fools. We've celebrated mediocrity all our life.

Our forefathers was coerced into believing everything will get better, we children have also inherited that.

Sometimes I ask my self who is to be blamed for our backwardness but then again, we are all to be blamed.

This is not where we are supposed to be as a nation. We've got abundant amenities to be among one of the top nations and shinning light for Africa, but then our past leaders mismanaged this great Country.

Nigeria will be great again, infact we are already making progress with this Government. It's only a matter of time before we get to that great height.

We are few steps ahead of the start of the light at the end of the tunnel

The good report actually unsettled him. That's why he is confused. He wanted to hear what his mind wishes. He proudly said that he is an exporter of one agricultural (cassava) product from the country. Yet he couldn't figure out that if there were no enabling environment, how could he has engaged in such business?
But, he is not alone; many of them are dying silently waiting to hear what news which usually please from Sahara reporters and pdp political magazines like the punch.
For the next few weeks, they will come up with their own version of the IMF report to resettled the unsettled gullible fans unsettled and confused by the report.
They will tell you they want the country to progress but the president must fail. Such is their mindsets, the purveyance of their confusion.

They're confused people

I run a successful cassava export business with no single kobo fed government contribution. I'm a tax payer to the core . Our government is parasitic. I dare you mention one area where your yeye government is empowering SME or creating enabling environment..electricity, security, loans...how constant is power in your house despite tariff increase? Now I could tell who's contradicting himself. Why did Solgas, wilbros, Unilever, nigerite etc leave for other countries? Why is shoprite leaving Nigeria abi you're also not aware of this. This guy sef.. you need employment in Lai Muhammed's office

@bolded ..it's either your a joker or your simply oblivious of happenings in this country. And you said your into exporting of cassava?

I give up on your gullibility

Wetin this one sab? Without government intervention the economy would still grow but at snail speed as we experience today. Can you tell me the enabling environment the federal government has created to make businesses thrive you sycophant? Is it Electricity, security, loans, just tell me. Till someone like you is pushed to the dungeon, you'd keep praising failure because of your shallow reasoning. No wonder your baba called you lazy youths. I think he's right.

I wonder what role has the government played in my business. Nothing! I run on generator 10 hours daily and switch to inverter intermittently. This is the daily experience of an average SME in Nigeria and this has shut up the cost of services a great deal. Nobody is as confused as you are because you don't even seem to understand what's going on, except you pretended not to know.

The fed govt only takes my tax without being supportive. In spite of the epileptic power supply, they increased tariff by almost 100 % recently. Is that a government? This might not be felt by you probably because you're still under your parents' apron string. By the time you get there if you're so lucky, you'd understand.

You keep contradicting yourself. If your claiming there was no intervention by the government and with the snail speed, don't you think we would have dropped down from that list.

Use your head and stop ranting like a frustrated being...This government has been the most supportive when it comes to SME.. its clear your failing in your business due to lack of diligence that's why you're this frustrated.

You need to change your thinking

Crude Oil prices...their greatest refrain!!!

Most African countries do not produce oil, Bros.

Buhari could not have managed the economy better when EVERY (i mean All) economic index under him(GDP size, growth rate, Inflation rate, Poverty rate, Employment rate, Foreign Exchange, Flow of Investment, Balance of Payment, Value of import and Export, stock etc etc etc) have gone SOUTH under him.

There are just certain arguments you guys should never make aloud

Name the few African countries that can stand toe to toe with Nigeria and let's see what they produce.

Most nations if not all are facing some form of economic crisis presently. It's clear your being hypocritical with your comment.

If what you wrote has any iota of truth in it then we wouldn't be holding the first position in Africa and moved up tens of places in the world.

This has nothing to do with this Govt i.e that we are still the largest economy in Africa.

The current Nigerian GDP size is $422.9billion while it was $510billion in 2014.
That is actually a decrease of almost $90billion under Buhari.

The only reason we are still the biggest is cos other close African countries no try.

So stop praising Buhari. It makes you look very ignorant

Then it's safe to say those African countries are also suffering from the drop in crude oil price and again with the covid-19 lockdown like we are.

Buhari and Osinbajo had done well in managing and growing our economy

keep deceiving yourself. Our economy is driven by private sector investment and not the government. The government has failed to create enabling environment for business to thrive. You can imagine buhari nipping insecurity in the bud, Nigeria would have gone farther than this. Instead of helping the SMIES grow, they're discouraging us with their bad and harsh policies. Thanks to my foreign angel investors, I'd not have been among exporters of cassava products in Africa today. Yeye government in power

You are a confused being. If the government has failed to create enabling environment for business to thrive then how come you are claiming our economy is being driven by private sector investment and not the government.
