CrimeJungle Justice Is Back In Town! by Urbanklassik(op): 10:50am On May 11, 2022
I witnessed first-hand this carnage and and sheer barbarism this morning. One of the evils of jungle justice is the summary execution/trial that are often associated with it. Criminals are not given fair trials and fair punishment. All crimes are served the capital punishment.

I'm not making a case for criminals but jungle justice will not put an end to crime sociologically, it will rather lead to a bloodthirsty killing and carnage in the society. Criminals will become ruthless and violent, also the mob serving the jungle justice.

EducationRiding In The Bandwagon by Urbanklassik(op): 1:09pm On Apr 08, 2020
Majority of Africans, most especially we Nigerians like joining the bandwagon. We are so fond of making generalisations, spreading unconfirmed news and stories and we tend to conclude that a phenomenon is true because many or most people believe it and a particular behavior is good because many or most people portray the behavior.

Bandwagon effects according to Wikipedia is a phenomenon whereby the rate of uptake of beliefs, ideas, fads and trends increases the more that they have already been adopted by others.

Most Nigerians tend to generalise a certain idea based on the general thoughts and beliefs about the idea which may be wrong. They hop in the bandwagon without reasoning, even regardless of the underlying evidence that the idea is wrong.

An example of bandwagoning is the recent conspiracy theories flying around on social media that 5G technology is the cause of the Coronavirus pandemic in the world.

We must all acknowledge that the fact that many people agree to a viewpoint does not make it right neither does it make it wrong, it just needs to be prove wrong or right.

The most amazing thing about joining the bandwagon is that the journey is smooth in the beginning when you're basking in the euphoria of ignorance until the wagon crashes.

Don't make foolish generalisations and assertions out of the conformity and pressure of the general viewpoints and ideas,

DON'T RIDE IN THE BANDWAGON BECAUSE YOUR JOURNEY MAY NOT END SMOOTHLY!!!

Imagine! Robbing a bank in a 21st century and in a capital city with fabricated pistols and cutlass. These guys are disgrace to "robberyhood", lol!

The last bank robbery I experienced in Ondo state was a state of the art robbery. Those robbers came with dynamite, automatic rifles and machine guns. They robbed the whole banks in Ikare-Akoko successfully, they not only took away billions of naira, they took human lives with them.

Hello Uncle Olomi, pls keep me anonymous.
I'm a 23 years old female final year student of a prominent private university in south western Nigeria.
I've been dating my boyfriend for the past 6months. I met him when i had issues with my final year school fees. He paid my school fees and even send me weekly pocket money till date. He's a businessman.

Uncle Olomi, the only problem I have with this guy is that he's still obsessed with his late ex gf to the point that he finds it difficult to get an erection whenever we want to have sex. He would have to watch the sex tape they made when they were dating before he would be able to have sex with me. I don't know what to do sir, I need advice because I don't want to lose him, he's a nice guy.

EducationSex For Marks: An Age Long Practice In Nigerian Higher Institutions by Urbanklassik(op): 3:35pm On Oct 08, 2019
Sex for marks is a popular phenomenon in Nigerian universities/higher institutions of learning. It gained notoriety recently with the incessant harassment and sexual exploitation of female students by randy male lecturers. the British broadcasting corporation (BBC) recently aired a documentary on the issue and it sparked a national outcry.

I was not surprised with the documentary but what came as a surprise to me is the hypocrisy of many Nigerians through their reactions to the documentary. Sex for marks and other forms of sexual exploitation of ladies in higher institutions in Nigeria is not a new phenomenon. In fact, Eedris Abdul Kareem sang a song titled "Mr Lecturer" in the early 2000s that addressed the issue. It's an age long practice in Nigerian higher institutions. It's proudly Nigerian.

Sex for marks takes two forms: one is comically referred to as STD ( Sexually Transmitted Degree), here, female students throw themselves sexually at male lecturers for better grades in their individual courses. The sex is initiated by the female students for academic favour. The other form is the most controversial, here, the male lecturers sexually exploits struggling female students. They prey on female students that are struggling academically and sexually exploit them by offering them better grades in exchange for sexual relationship with them.

No matter the forms this "Sex for Marks" phenomenon may take, it needs to be discouraged in Nigerian universities/higher institutions because it's an academic corruption. It's an unethical practice that promote mediocrity and sexual perversion/exploitation in Nigerian universities/higher institutions. All hands must be on deck to put an end to this corrupt and immoral practice in Nigerian higher institutions of learning.

I heard that Messi the small letter goat called officials corrupt. I've come to realised something about us as individuals. We tend to see the shortcomings of a system if it's not favouring us, but if it's in our favour, we are blinded to the flaws and imperfections of the system. Messi is over rated

Wow, those influencers truly have a lot of influence. Me and Jokunle opened our twitter account same day, same hour, 8 years after dude has gotten over 200k followers. Some yeyebrities self don't have such followers. They suspended their accounts in order to avoid the spread of fake election results because those influencers can reach a large audience with their accounts.

CelebritiesRe: Logo Benz: Olamide Should Be Jailed For Appalling Lyrics ~ Man by Urbanklassik(m): 11:17am On Dec 21, 2018
If you're sociologically inclined, you will know that language is powerful in the society, the words we utter can be inciting, motivating, depressing and inspiring. That's why the role of music can never be overemphasised, because what we hear affects our consciousness and subconsciousness. We must frown at music with negative connotations like Olamide's Logo Benz.
CrimeMoney Rituals: Some Facts About The Evil Practice by Urbanklassik(op): 1:17pm On Dec 12, 2018
Money ritual is contributing immensely to the  deaths that happens in Nigeria in recent time because a lot of people are being kidnapped, killed and their body parts and organs harvested for ritual purposes,  there's obviously no doubt that money ritual is now a menace in our society with the recent wave of related killings.

Money ritual or what some people refers to as blood money is a  voodoo practice that involves the ritual or sacrifice of human or animal body parts, blood or organs with other fetish items done by some people in order to get rich and wealthy.

We keep asking ourselves why there's a upsurge in the occurrence of money rituals in our society in recent time? The answer is not farfetched, our society has evolved to what I call " The Survival of the Richest " as opposed to Darwin's survival of the fittest. Our society has made us understand that nobody will reckon with the poor, the family has put a great value on the culture of success regardless of what you do or engages in to become successful, the religious institutions are preaching prosperity, even in the entertainment spheres, the songs and movies we hear and watch are promoting materialism and also stressing the need to become rich and wealthy at all cost, in fact, a song by Victor AD has turned to a popular slang and watchword of Nigerian youths, "Wetin we gain? If we no make money wetin we gain?!".

SOME FACTS ABOUT MONEY RITUALS
• Money ritual is neither real nor fake: I think it is safe to say money rituals is neither real nor fake because there's a polarized view of the phenomenon in our society today. Some hold a superstitious belief that it is real and it works while some people do not believe that it works and they consider it as a mere superstition.  I won't say it categorically that it is real or fake, but I've learnt a vital thing over the years as a result of my upbringing and the nature of my society (Nigeria) that nothing is totally real and nothing is totally fake.

• Is not a new phenomenon: money rituals may be prominent in our society today but it is definitely not a new phenomenon, it has been in existence since time immemorial, I have been hearing news and stories of money rituals right from my childhood till now and I guess it is here to stay, as long as people won't stop looking for quick and easy way to make money and become wealthy.

• Money rituals is having a cult like following in Nigeria: money ritual is having a cult like following in Nigeria in recent time, people who engages in the evil practice now has a cult like association, this is evident in the phenomenon known as "Yahoo Plus". The phenomenon known as Yahoo plus is used to refer to people who involves in money rituals under the guise of being an internet fraudsters. This issue of Yahoo plus is very rampant these days, in fact, it has become a social problem in our society today and nothing is seems to be done about it both by the government and the society at large.

• It is not only peculiar to Africa:  money rituals happens in other parts of the world as opposed to the mentality of some people that it is only peculiar to Africa alone. I read a post online in 2011 on BBC by one Chris Rogers, on how some young people are being trafficked from Africa to the UK for blood money rituals. Some of them are killed while others are maimed. It was unbelievable for me that such evil practice could happen in a civilized society like UK. We all must understand that money rituals may happen anywhere in the world, although it is more prominent in Africa than elsewhere.

All hands must be on deck to curb the menace of this evil practice known as money rituals, from the government down to the family. Our youths must learn to reason beyond materialism and learn how to get themselves free from the "get rich quick syndrome" in our society, in so doing they would be able to live life positively and to avoid being pressured to make money by negative means.

HealthDepression: The Gateway To Suicide by Urbanklassik(op): 9:21pm On Dec 05, 2018
In recent time, we keep waking up to different news and stories of suicide in our society. We only reacts to suicide by condemning it whenever it happens around us, little or nothing is being done to the underlining cause of suicide, which is "Depression". Mental disorder and terminal diseases may also contribute to suicidal thoughts and suicide in the society but the major cause of suicide nowadays is depression.Nigeria is currently ranked 5th in the WHO list of suicide prone countries. Nigeria placed fifth with 15,000 suicide in every 100,000 suicides that happens around the world. Suicide is a ticking time bomb in our society today, avoiding and overcoming depression is the only kill switch to put it off.

The popular online encyclopedia (Wikipedia) defined depression as a state of low mood and aversion to activity, that can affect a person's thoughts, behavior, tendencies, feelings, and sense of wellbeing.
Some people get over depression in due course but people going through a severe form of depression may not be quite lucky, because depression in it severity may lead to suicidal thoughts which may eventually lead to suicide. Depression should be given a lot of attention because research has shown that no particular age group or social class is free from depression, this means that both the young and old, rich and poor can be a victim of depression.
Two factors are mainly responsible for depression among individuals in the society, they are: The biological/genetic factor and the situational factor.

Biological/genetic factor: under this factor, people experience depression as a result of their biological, psychological and genetic nature. People who are suffering from bipolar disorders, schizophrenia and other mental health disorders are prone to depression. Some people may also  experience depression as a side effect of a particular medication as a result of their genetics. Postnatal depression (baby blue) may also occur anytime after childbirth between two weeks and two years after the birth.

Situational factor: under this factor, depression comes as a post traumatic experience to people who have just recently gone through a traumatic situations like the loss of a loved one, rape and other forms of sexual assault, disappointment, heartbreak, war, domestic abuse and violence etc.

HOW TO OVERCOME DEPRESSION
The most important thing to do when going through depression is to SPEAK OUT. Share your feelings and plight with someone, because if you don't, depression could overwhelm you and make you develop suicidal thoughts and feelings. Get PROFESSIONAL HELP from healthcare providers. There are effective psychological and pharmacological treatments for depression such as behavioural activation, cognitive behavioural therapy [CBT], and interpersonal psychotherapy [IPT]) or antidepressant medication. For more tips on how to overcome depression visit www.psychologytoday.com and www.help guide.org.

We must all understand that depression is a killer disease and it can be treated through therapy, medication and a positive lifestyle. Also, we must be aware that depression is not just an emotional oppression, it is a gateway to suicide.

Politics360 Degree Of Foolishness by Urbanklassik(op): 7:27am On Oct 02, 2018
If you still think that Buhari is the only problem Nigeria has, then you're on a 360° of foolishness, he's not the only problem Nigeria has, we all are Nigeria's problem.

I was surprised that the Buhari everybody saw as a hero 3 years ago is now a super villain, the same happened to his predecessor Goodluck Jonathan. I think is high time we realize that our problems as a country is not mainly from the leadership, it is majorly from the Institutionalized corruption in the country, ignorance and non chalant attitudes on the part of the populace and other fundamental issues in the country. Corruption has created a butterfly effect that affects the whole institutions and structures of the country.

If you still harbour corruption in your heart, if you still submit yourself to be used as an instrument of terror and oppression, if you still support mediocrity and cronyism, if you still propagate separatist and secessionist ideas, if you still sell your vote at the polls, if you still hold on to extreme religious beliefs and bigotry, if you still live off the sweats and toil of others, if you still believe in ethnicity, if you still involve in any of these and you say Buhari is the problem of this country then you're on a 360° of foolishness.

If we don't attend to the fundamental issues in the country, we would keep complaining about the President of the day. We need a social, cultural and political revolution that would also cut across our perception, mentality and sense of judgement. We must admit the fact that we all are Nigeria's problem, the desired changes we all clamour for in the country should start from us all.
