The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, has distanced the ministry from an online report calling for the submission of Curriculum Vitae (CV) by unemployed youths to the ministry.

Report surfaced recently asking young Nigerians to submit application forms for employment at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment Headquarters and its Zonal offices around the country.

However, Ngige while reacting to the report said though he was aware of the plights of unemployed youths in country, they should be careful not to fall into the hands of fraudsters.


A statement signed by the Deputy Director of Press in the Ministry, Samuel Olowookere, quoted Dr Ngige thus:

“The general public is hereby advised to disregard this false directive as it did not emanate from the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.

“It has perfected plans for massive job creation through well thought out programmes such as Graduate Internship Scheme (GIS), among others. The general public would be informed in due course when any of these programmes/scheme would be rolled out.”

“In view of the apprehension the above false information has generated it is pertinent to point out that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, is committed to the creation of decent employment opportunities for teeming unemployed Nigerians and has perfected plans for massive job creation through well thought out programmes such as Graduate Teachers Conversion Programme, Graduate Internship Scheme (GIS), Vocational Skills Acquisition and Upgrading, Conditional Cash Transfers (CCT) for the vulnerable persons including market women.


“The general Public will be informed in due course when any of these programmes/scheme is being rolled out.

“The public is hereby warned to disregard the said online publication as any person who does otherwise does so at his or her own risk especially when some of the websites have been requesting applicants to pay what they dubbed ‘application fees’.”

We did supply the account of NPAN to the Federal Government through the ONSA once we agreed the N120,000,000 compensation for member newspapers. But when I got a call from an official of the ONSA informing me that the payments agreed with The President was ready and should arrange to pick up cash, I balked and refused, asking him to pay to the NPAN account. Even when he suggested that The Nigerian Guild of Editors – NGE -(who are now calling for a probe) was paid N50,000,000 cash by the ONSA when President Jonathan donated to the building of the NGE secretariat, I still refused to collect cash and in any case, I had no independent confirmation the Nigerian Guild of Editors had collected cash. And even if they did, I was not prepared to do so. And when he insisted, after I had refused to pick up such a huge amount in cash, we agreed in good faith they credit the account of General Hydrocarbons Ltd, who upon legal advice, were acting in agency in line with industry practice where most payments are received through agencies, but in this instance, at no cost. General Hydrocarbons Ltd did receive the payments on behalf of NPAN and delivered same to NPAN, at no cost, despite bank charges. General Hydrocarbons Ltd – a member of the THISDAY Newspapers Group – who are bonafide members of NPAN – therefore collected the compensation on behalf NPAN and passed on exactly what was collected in fulfillment of the out-of-court settlement reached between President Goodluck Jonathan and the expanded leadership of NPAN who attended the June 12, 2014 meeting, at the invitation of The President, at State House Marina, Lagos to ensure newspapers are never again clamped down after years of military harassment.

Following Saudi Arabia’s execution of prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, the official Twitter page of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has posted a tweet reading, “Awakening is not suppressible.”

The text, which was part of a speech delivered by the Leader on May 16, 2015, was inscribed next to a photo of Sheikh Nimr and above portraits of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, the former leader of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas who was killed in an Israeli air strike in 2004; former high-ranking Hezbollah member Samir Qantar, who was killed during an Israeli raid in December, 2015; and prominent Nigerian Shia cleric Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaky, who was recently detained in a raid by army forces.

On Saturday, the Saudi Interior Ministry announced that Sheikh Nimr along with 46 others, who were convicted of being involved in “terrorism” and adopting a “Takfiri” ideology, had been put to death.

Sheikh Nimr, a critic of the Riyadh regime, was arrested in 2012 in the Qatif region of Shia-dominated Eastern Province, which was the scene of peaceful anti-regime demonstrations at the time.

He was charged with instigating unrest and undermining the kingdom’s security, making anti-government speeches and defending political prisoners. He had rejected all the charges as baseless.

Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province has been the scene of demonstrations since February 2011, with protesters demanding reforms, freedom of expression, release of political prisoners and an end to widespread discrimination against people of the oil-rich region. Several people have been killed and many others injured or arrested during the rallies.

International rights bodies have criticized Saudi Arabia for its grim human rights record, arguing that widespread violations continue unabated in the country.

Meanwhile, Ayatollah Khamenei's official English website, english.khamenei.ir, carried a large image of Sheikh Nimr with the words "What the Quran promised."

A photo underneath contained the Quranic verse: “And whoever is killed wrongfully, we have certainly given his heir an authority.”
