The whole arrest affected him psychologically but he was later released after the police found out the allegations by Dangote could not be proven . He later lost the Abuja job offer and had to relocate back to a Portugal in his depression .

The guy was knocked down by a truck while on his bike in Portugal . His lawyer friend has claimed that his work issues that drove into depression was likely responsible for his death .

Dangote Brand and communications team go really see work do o, especially this period that he is planning on expanding his refinery business to other countries .

Actually contrary to what raumdeuter and yourself are saying, it's actually not advisable for economic reasons and one of the rationale is what you just highlighted. Infact, financial advisors/planners advise against it, some even going as far as saying both couples should not work in the same sector - for diversification reasons.

A good example is what happened in the oil sector during the 2014/15 oil crisis and covid era. Imagine both couples working in oil companies then, or maybe both you guys work in the tech sector and exposed to the recurrent layoffs which happens a lot more frequently now. Infact, if both couples have investments, companies from that sector will completely be ruled out by the advisor (even if its a top performer), and more risk play will be suggested - heavy unemployment/disability insurance etc

Of course, this is in developed economies, in naija - as long as you have an ok to well paying job, all of these becomes secondary. People have to survive first

GIP valuation can be calculated within a decent margin of error and it won't be as powderpuff as Jay Z or Rihanna valuation which is based on vague brand valuations mixed with a bit of EBITDA multiples

GIP valuation would be on physical assets and tangible cash flows and not far from what BlackRock paid in consideration (usually within ~ 20% mark up on fair value).

It would have been based on:

(a.) Actual physical assets owned by the company such as shares in Ports and Airports

(b.) Multiples of EBITDA derived from Management fees for fund management of which GIP was collecting $750m in fees per year, plus their small share of ownership in portfolio companies (outside of the funds ownership). Companies in their portfolio generated $75 bln annual revenue. I don't know what percentage of their portfolio constitutes fund ownership and what percentage constitutes direct ownership but direct ownership is part of the mix.

But there's probably another element on the balance sheet that would still be written off - the loan element, even if the cars are zero NBV on the PPE side of the asset, there are still the loans which in real terms is still quantifiable or a bit comparable to the economic value

Also if the NBV is near zero why would Moove publicly be saying they are giving away ₦35 billion worth of cars?, Maybe its even PR and its not up to that amount in accounting terms or its that in loan terms and they're selling a good story to investors plus the tax advantage

While I hear you on the economy failure, the business model of Moove in Nigeria was always destined to struggle. I remember discussing this with a friend in 2023. High Capex, Credit risk that wasnt or cant be properly quantified, FX costs and mismatch. Add all the usual and typical problems with logistic business. I cant even begin to imagine the typical driver issues they would have been having

Yeah I agree with and even modified my analogy to capture it properly. My issue was with the cabin crew who should know better plus all the plenty overeactions. Of course that should be an emergency landing cos of the security risk even if they tied him down.

I have a bit to say about the Dangote Refinery and my assessment is somewhere in between and is most likely tending towards a No than a Yes. I also have read the prospectus and I have my doubts

To be fair, the new shares are just around 3-4% dilution of cap table. A good indication though, means they are retaining ownership and prob still feel strongly about the project. Also them saying they are doubling capacity means excessive Capex which they still are yet to disclose means of possible funding. I suspect it'll be the debt market and at that time they'll release their full financials, makes all the assessment easier. Dont want to imagine what the debt/EBITDA will look like at the time

I could stress test their entire numbers and at best I see a $15 - $18bn valuation and I wonder their hedge is against crude oil pricing. Any body who wants to enter should probably wait 6 months post IPO, lets see what it looks like then
