This is not necessarily a difficult thing to understand.

'God' as used in this context refers to the Christian understanding of God. Although a traditional religion follower could equally interpret it as refering to his personal deity of worship also.

Language wise the words themselves mean roughly the same thing, but not religion wise as the characters have their differences.
