I always want the black man to win a boxing match no matter how good the white man is
same here, thank God there was a Tyson. same goes for the NBA, it must be blacks doing the best dunks, and winning championship titles for me. Shaq, Jordan, kobe, Lebron, curry, etc...
Without much ado, I'd like to know what y'all think about the recent nollywood movies that have been hitting the cinemas. I'd also like to know why AY-produced movies are always centered on the same dimwitted, play boy, "comedy-miss-road" kinda stories.
This show, competition or whatever is extremely garbage. The previous ones I watched were won by dancers, like wtf?! I don't like that dancers have to compete with singers, and the dawgs in the drama section.
I couldn't decide if it was an action movie with the Robin Hoodesque theme, a comedy considering the cast, or a beauty parade for the same reason as the second. Or maybe it was all three.
The plot was bland and lacklustre, but the dialogue was interesting (no depth though).
I could spot one glaring faux pas in the movie and wondered how the director and editors missed it. It was so glaring I was appalled. P.S Falz was involved.
There were an array of fancy casts, but sadly, many of them had zero role to play and only further weakened an already weak plot. In fact it's safer to assume their presence was simply to make the movie look colourful. Some scenes appeared unnecessary and were likely included to make the movie move beyond the 1hr 30mins mark. I didn't get the point of them at all.
The only things the movie had going for it were the presence of a very fine cast, comedians/funny humans and fancy wardrobe choice. Cinematography was decent although the camera angles in the fight scenes and gun shots were puke inducing. The sound was clear and not characterised by that irritating thing common with nollywood where the background soundtrack drowns or significantly interferes with the dialogue (Wedding Party was guilty of this, too).
If you're expecting suspense I advise you go watch "A Quiet Place" or "A Simple Favour". This movie doesn't provide any of that as most of the scenes could be predicted, except perhaps towards the end and even that would be disappointing for movie buffs who have spent years bingeing Hollywood
You'll laugh a lot and not be bored to sleep, that's a given. But it isn't a movie you'd consider seeing a second time-- especially not in a cinema-- and there were no fantastic, awe-inducing moments in it.
Verdict: 5/10
P.S. Ramsey Nuoah looked like fine wine
Seen it, what do you think?
lmao, true. the action sequences were straight up garbage.
This amnesty is stupid. if I ever get to rule this country, I'd host this amnesty exercise only as a means to get em gathered and wasted on spot. nonsense!!!
omon: You guys have forgotten that these films are its infancy and made with limited funds. There will be growth by the time more investors come into the sector. Who really cares about what the American got to say? When Hollywood started, it was rubbished this way too. Criticism is good, but it should not be done with sarcasm like the American did. Nigerian films are being watched all over Africa and it is still growing..... With more money in the pockets, better films will be made. How many British films have you watched to find out that are just rubbish?
So it is wrong to totally ridicule the efforts these guys are putting in. There are quacks in the industry, yes, but the number of professionals are growing. there are growing number of Nigerians based abroad that are producing Nigerian films these days, and it is getting better.
funds? wtf?? check out short films on youtube. particularly from channels like Corridor, comedy's central "kev & peele," then compare them to every film nollywood has produced. nonsense!!
Family guy has an episode about our great African princes, Nigerians to be precise.
the shoes part is also correct. doubt it? here's a lyric from a popular song by American rapper, The game -- "better days"
"I'm from a block where niggas gotta keep the gun cocked and kids wear dre beats to stop the sound of gun shots but at least they got the dre beats, cos "kids in Africa ain't even got shoes on their feet"!
Snixdave, You can watch Luxy Nation's "Lady assasin," if you like...
That guy did heap well. the container falling off after being hit by the bullet, the sounds, framing, bullet holes etc. Pls don't let any praise from these persons who are most likely not in the business-- merely movie fans-- confuse you. You can do better, sir!!
badinfluence: I feel there are better ways you could have put your criticism across.. This just sounds like you're trying to show off..
stanad005: Wow! Show off? Seriously bullet shell ejections? How many Hollywood shootout scene do u see bullets ejections from a pistol, when it's not a slow mo' gun fire.. The guy tried.. acknowledge that fact!
badinfluence: I feel there are better ways you could have put your criticism across.. This just sounds like you're trying to show off..
If by show off, you mean the "Christian effiong vfx blah blah," don't blame me. That's how we write in most vfx forums I'm in. It is simply a way to let people know what you do, so if there's a job related, you could be contacted.
seriously, If that's not it... where's the show off then? I even gave him a small tip.
As for the bullet shell... if I'm not mistaken, were there no close ups? thats where bullet shell ejection moslty comes in. Even the kick back action was absent. Film riot, and action vfx covers these widely.
abeg, my guy, i know tok say een no try... I even showed my colleagues the video.. I'm just saying... He shouldve have done better. and PS: If i wasnt impressed with this one, I wouldnt have bothered downloading his other short film "Distance"
firstly, the whole concept is not exactly original. I can see xeroxed bits from the "epic clone action film" made by a particular youtuber...don't quite remember his name. well that's that... at least you didnt totally mess up the idea the way our mediocre nollywood film makers would have.
second, your muzzle flashes dont look impressive. Too small, wheres the smoke? sparks? the charges on the surfaces the bullet strikes? no hole on the gp tank? no bullet shell ejection. Too many faults there. next time you're going to do a gub shootout, have a bucket or container or anything that can be pulled down around. do a take with only the container(s) to be hit by the bullet pulled outta frame. Then another take of you in frame ducking, or doing whatever keeps you from getting hit. Then mask, and track(if it was a moving shot) it really adds to the realism of a shootout scene.
The muzzle flashes in your film "Distance" is worse. Acting: -2 poor I'll give u an A+ for the lab scene where the dudes where being injected... our average nollywood producers cant/wont do that.

yo idiot!! this happened close to where I work. the kidnapers were actually 4. 1 was burnt. another detained b the police. while two fled. The detained one confessed at the station that it was the woman's husband's brother that paid them for the job, since according to him, she was a hindrance to their getting of money continuously from her husband (his brother)

Idrismusty97: Sorry what is this fuckery? Whatever is worth doing is worth doing well. If they can't design 3D animation properly then they should just stick with 2D. After all Japanese Animes have always been in 2D for decades and they are making waves. I have always been in support for Nigeria or in fact African themed Animes but this is just not it. Nevertheless, the storyline may be cool and can make a great show if properly packaged.
tbh, I was gon say same thing. Graphics look like shit-- basic shit.
