Akwa Ibom people were recently sold another basket of lies by Mr Udom Emmanuel, the state governor, when he tried whitewashing his incredibly poor records in office. At the flag-off of PDP National Assembly campaign in Ikot Ekpene on October 25, 2022, Mr Emmanuel reportedly told the perplexed crowd that he has now completed the same facility he inherited on assumption of office as “fully completed”. It is on record that Udom is known for declaring most of his uncompleted projects as completed. So it might not be surprising that in a desperate quest for a visible project to present as part of his exit record , he has to claim another man’s vision and sweat. Indeed, it is more than shocking that the very facility, Four-Points by Sheraton in Ikot Ekpene, which was initiated and completed by the then Governor Godswill Akpabio before his exit on May 29, 2015, is the one Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel is claiming to have just completed. Obviously, for clear vindictive and political reasons, Udom had repeatedly claimed that he inherited only the building, on assumption of office as governor, without the requisite furnishings. That claim, however flies in the face of verifiable facts, as seen in pictorial documents recorded before Udom assumed office as governor. In pictures taken on the day of the commissioning of the said hotel, Udom Emmanuel, as then Secretary to the state Government, was seen as part of the delegation of Governor Godswill Akpabio's administration. Udom was not only prominent at the tap-cutting scene but posed variously in different locations of the hotel, with full furnishings in glaring display. In one of the pictures, he is seen munching away on the Terrance of the hotel with Governor Akpabio and another guest. Perhaps, he was then so carried away to realise that the place was “not completed” or nonexistent then but merely in his imagination. Interestingly, Mr Emmanuel’s current close ally, Mr Emmanuel Enoidem, now the PDP Senatorial candidate for Ikot Ekpene, was the commissioner supervising the building and furnishing the hotel. Mr Etido Inyang, was then the Special Adviser, Technical, while Mr Oliver Ebong was the Consultant. Akwa Ibom people have grown wiser to the annoying antics of these unscrupulous politicians and are ready to grill for accountability. They are no longer ready to swallow Udom’s lies hook, line and sinker. Indeed, the people need to ask Enoidem and Etido Inyang, both from Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, to explain the status of the hotel as at the time it was commissioned. If it was not completed and furnished, why did they as officers of government who were in charge of the project, certified it ready for commissioning? If the hotel was completed, furnished and commissioned before May 29, 2022, what then did Udom complete and furnish? Furthermore , it should be recalled that the state House of Assembly, led then by Messrs Onofiok Luke and Udo Kierian, conducted an on-the-spot assessment and inspection tour of the hotel, immediately after Udom took over. Can both of them step forward and make public the report of that exercise? Equally, can Hon Nse Ntuen, who as then Chairman of ALGON (Association of Local Governments of Nigeria) led a toured of the hotel on the commissioning day step forward and tell the world if the hotel wasn't completed and fully furnished? No lie will make us accept a phantom gift this time around. Udom is churning out these lies to deceive Akwa Ibom people to accept his selfish plan of imposing a stooge and an incompetent character on them. Never again will Akwa Ibom people be fooled a second time!

... ENDORSE PASTOR UMO ENO FOR GOVERNORSHIP 2023 Nelson NseAbasi Entertainers drawn from the 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom State have passed a vote of confidence on the state governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, for his legacies in the industry under his two-term tenure. The vote of confidence was passed on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at Ibom Tropicana, following a well attended road show and concert to kick start the 2nd edition of the annual weeklong Ibom Entertainment Week. As the curtains draw on the Completion Agenda, light beams on the impact of the Mr Emmanuel led administration on different sectors of the state. The record of achievement during his tenure would not be complete without the strides in the entertainment industry. The most notable and commendable of them all being the appointment of the first ever special assistant to Governor on Entertainment Industry, in the history of Akwa Ibom State, in person of David Sergeant (Utang Akwa Ibom). Mr Sergeant, in company of the chairman of the planning committee, Godfada Uko, led members of Ibom Entertainers Forum, the biggest umbrella body of the entertainment sector in the state, to embark on a solidarity march from Ibom Plaza to Tropicana. The Governor in his remark, as delivered by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Rt. Honourable Orman Esin, presented Pastor Umo Eno (the People's Democratic Party Gubernatorial candidate) to the entertainers, describing him as an entertainer, owing to his years of experiences in hospitality and tourism, which entertainment falls under. Mr Esin said that if Governor Udom Emmanuel could do this much, entertainers can be rest assured that by this endorsement and their support, Pastor Umo Eno will do more, because he is one of them. The CEO of indigenous construction company, HENSEK Integrated, Engr Uwem Okoko announced a surprise 2 Million naira support to pad the 2 Million Naira donated by Pastor Umo Eno. The elated Pastor Eno confessed his wish to have a tet-a-tet with talents in the state, which will give him more time to enable him be abreast of the industry. Also present were the senator representing Eket Senatorial District and Deputy Gubernatorial Candidate, Dr. Akon Eyakenyi, Engr. Wisdom Enang (the youngest fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers) the Special Assistant to Governor on Talent Hunt, Mr Emmanuel Owuala, Dr. Itoro Etim and popular Lagos based comedian and content creator, MC Mbakara. In 2018, when over 10,000 entertainers stormed the streets of Uyo, to endorse Mr Udom Emmanuel to serve a second term as Governor of Akwa Ibom State, naysayers would have thought it to be mere praise singing, but looking back at the years gone by, it's been all smiles for a handful of entertainers who have enjoyed the patronage and benevolence of the number one citizen, one of which is the sponsorship of Ibom Entertainment Week, which galvanises the talent and creativity of players in the sector. #IbomEntertainers #IbomEntertainmentWeek2022

Save The Youth Conference partners Human Purpose and Objectivity Foundation (H-POF). As preparation for the 2023 General Elections gathers momentum, a Youth- focused Reorientation Initiative Save the Youth Conference in partnership with a non-governmental organisation, Human Purpose and Objectivity Foundation (H-POF) has undertaken a massive awareness campaign for voter’s registration across Akwa Ibom State. To further raise the awareness and consciousness of Nigerians on the role in the forthcoming 2023 Elections. During the Saturday 25th June Awareness Rally the convener of Save the Youth Conference Mr Isaac Nice mentioned that the Sensitisation rally which featured, performances by music artists, visit to motor parks, markets, bus-tops shopping outlets and strategic locations was targeted at informing and educating citizens that the yearning for a better Nigeria can be gotten through citizens involvement in the leadership recruitment process which the PVC is the only tool to do that. Mr. Nice noted that Save The Youth Conference through its annual conferences has reached over ten thousand (10,000) youths across Akwa Ibom State, he noted that an ex post facto survey and personal testimony during the 2022 edition of the conference has shown how the Conference is contributing to the reorientation of youths towards positive societal engagement. He mentioned that the PVC Awareness Campaign is in fulfilment of its objectives of promoting youths' meaningful engagement in public leadership and governance. Speaking on the PVC Awareness Campaign the CEO Human Purpose and Objectivity Foundation (H-POF) Comrade Nsidibe Orok noted that the PVC Awareness Campaign was part of the organisation’s contribution in promoting constructive citizens participation in Nigeria’s political and electoral process. He noted that INEC report in April, 2022 had a record of about 20 million uncollected PVC which shows the lacuna in public awareness and readiness to partake in the 2023 Elections. Comrade Orok stressed that the desire for good governance can on be gotten when citizens take active and decisive part in the electoral processes and have their voices heard in the democratic process of governance. He however noted that Election violence can be brought to the barest minimum with the use of voter’s card. “We are thankful to INEC Eket office for granting us the request of providing four (4) machines stationed at the QIC Primary School Eket on Saturday 25th June 2022 to aid registration during our sensitisation campaign. From our records we successfully had 1,500 pre-registration and 5000 successfully captured. We will follow-up with INEC at the remaining locations of St. Paul Primary School, Idua Eket, Primary School Effoi, Eket and Primary School Ikot Usekong.” The PVC Awareness Rally organisers promised that other programs are on the pipeline to mobilize citizens to fully engage in the 2023 General Elections.

FEAR OF LOSING IN COURT: Like a drowning person in the face of a suffocating wave, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has frantically been trying to grab at straws to stay afloat, by enticing some statutory delegates to sign blank forms that they participated in the last primaries. The forms circulated across the state through the party chapter offices on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, had only one inscription: “Statutory Delegates”, with blank spaces for signatures and there was no written or verbal explanation as to the import of the decuments. However, a source at the State Secretariat of PDP confided in our reporter that a covering letter had already been prepared pending the eventual collation of all the signatures, dissociating the statutory delegates from an ongoing case at the Federal High Court, Abuja. Unknown to the unsuspecting statutory delegates, the said covering letter, we learnt, clearly claimed that “the undersigned” duly participated in the just concluded primaries in the stat, while denouncing involvement in any case to claim their rights. The desperate move, according to our source, was an attempt at diluting the expected tsunamic effect of the on-going case between some statutory delegates and the Akwa Ibom PDP, which comes up for hearing on July 5, 2022. It was learnt that the government released N250, 000 for each statutory delegate who agreed to sign the blank paper, however, our source said the agents of government handling the process gave out a paltry N50, 000 to the gullible delegates, while some got nothing. A delegate, who said he refused to sign the ominous document, told us that he felt scandalised that a party that once commanded so much respect and followership could sink so deep into an irredeemable level of desperation and hypocrisy. He described as sad a situation the same party that a day earlier had set up a “reconciliation committee” would still go ahead to cook the books to cover its earlier deliberate disenfranchisement of its members, even against its own constitution. It bears recalling that PDP in Akwa Ibom state, clearly stated that only adhoc delegates will be used for the primaries and went ahead to execute same. A statement personally signed by the state chairman, Rt Hon Aniekan Akpan on May 22, 2022 said: “The National Working Committee of our Party had earlier clarified that by virtue of Section 84( of the Electoral Act, 2022, those qualified and eligible to vote as delegates in the forthcoming Primaries and NationalConvention of our great Party are the three (3) AD-HOC Delegates per ward, elected at the Ward Congresses and one (1) National Delegate per Local Government, elected at the Local Government Area Congresses”. A list of three delegates per ward, duly stamped by the Directorate for Organisation and Mobilisation of the party, was subsequently released and used for all the primaries. However, on July 5, 2022, the plaintiffs expect the court to declare, based on the combined provisions of Sections 83(3), 84( of the Electoral Act, Articles 25; Part 10, Article of the PDP constitution; that PDP cannot lawfully conduct congress and primary elections monitored by INEC without the requisite quorum of democratically elected statutory and adhoc delegates. The court is also expected to declare the exclusion of PDP statutory delegates from the primaries as illegal, since their functions include being delegates to the State Congress for voting in any PDP primary election. The plaintiffs also seek a declararion that all the PDP primares conducted this year, towards producing candidates for the various elective positions for next year’s election are in the breach of the electoral act, the PDP Constitution and are therefore defective, wrongful, illegal, null and void. The court is also expected to stop INEC from recognising or accepting candidates produced from those defective primaries for inclusion in the General Election of next year. They also asked the court to order PDP to conduct a fresh state congress and primary election for the proper nomination of candidates for the state House, House of Representatives, Senate and Governorship. According to Section 84(13) of the Electoral Act: “Where a political party fails to comply with the provisions of this Act, in the conduct of its primaries, its candidate for election shall not be included in the election for the particular position in issue”. What this means is that in the case of Akwa Ibom State, there will be no candidate for Governorship, Houses of Assembly and Representatives, as well as Senate, should the court grant the prayers of the aggrieved Akwa Ibom PDP statutory delegates.

A’Ibom PDP Entices Statutory Delegates to Claim They Voted in Primaries. * Orders status quo to remain. The use of ad hoc delegates in the upcoming PDP primaries in the Akwa Ibom State has been truncated. A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja in the case of Friday Iwok and 30 others Vs PDP and INEC decided today (May 18, 2022) that the status quo should remain, pending the determination of the main suit. When the case, Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/606/2022- RT. HON. FRIDAY IWOK &ORS V. INEC & Anor came up, the court granted the injunction against the usage of the April 30, 2022 Adhoc delegates list for the PDP Congresses in Akwa Ibom State. While adjourning the case to Wednesday, May 25, 2022 for hearing, the Court directed that the Status Quo be maintained. According to a legal luminary, Barrister Jerry Akpan, the implication of the court decision is that “ad hoc delegates issue in the upcoming PDP primaries has been buried”. He explained that with the latest court pronouncement, the Ad-hoc delegates will NOT vote in the House of Assembly primary on May 21, 2022, House of Representatives primary on May 22, 2022, Senatorial primary on May 23 as well as the May 25, 2022 governorship primary. Barr Akpan said by the time the substantive suit would have been done with, it would be too late to talk about as hoc delegate issue, meaning it would have been overtaken by circumstance.

GUBER 2023: UDOM DOLES N1.3BN TO SOME ASSEMBLY ASPIRANTS TO BRIBE DELEGATES * N 50m each to his preferred House of Assembly aspirants to bribe delegates. * Begs Councillors With N100,000 To Support His Preferred Aspirant. * Plans phoney contracts While teachers’ unpaid salaries are pilling up and feeble retirees are dropping dead or lamenting over years of owed pensions and gratuities, Governor Udom Emmanuel has reportedly doled a whooping N1.3billion to his preferred House of Assembly aspirants, towards bribing delegates to support Mr Umo Eno, his favoured governorship wannabe. Akwa Ibom State, according to recent reports, has been languishing in a series of poorly managed welfare quagmire, including unsettled severance entitlements to former councillors, who were teargased a few days for daring to peacefully demand their pay. However, as the governorship primary inches closer, Mr Emmanuel appears so desperate that he has reportedly thrown the state’s coffers wide open, doling out billions to potential delegates and some stakeholders. A Government House source confided in our reporter that after a meeting with some members of his kitchen cabinet on Monday, May 16, 2022, the governor decided to bribe arm some Hiuse of Assembly aspirants with N50million each, to enable them buy delegates’ supports. The above move, according to watchers of Akwa Ibom politics, falls in line with Mr Emmanuel’s reported boast that he was ready to empty even the Central Bank, if possible, to cover up his mistake of choosing an unpopular aspirant. A few days ago, the governor, in another desperate effort to entice the councillors, organised a retreat where he reportedly begged them with N100,000 each not to disgrace him at the primary, by rejecting his preferred choice. The said retreat attracted criticisms from some political stakeholders, who questioned the timing, as such programs are often packaged at the beginning of tenures and not towards the end. Many argued that the gathering, a few days after their former colleagues were beaten and teargased by the police on the order of the governor, was just meant to lure the councillors for support and dump them soon after. Mr Emmanuel has been roundly carpeted for poor human connection, generally, as well as despicable inter-governmental relations in his state, a situation which, sources said, has made it difficult for many delegates to trust him and his choice of aspirant. A few weeks ago, Mr Emmanuel met with the chapter chairmen of the PDP for the first time, since their inauguration about three years, equally begging them not to disgrace him. It was gathered that during the said inauguration, the governor had promised to meet with the party henchmen at the chapters regularly, give them monthly stipends, release bulk contracts as well as buses to each chapter. However, the only contract that was purportedly released in 2015/2016 chapter chairman soon after Mr Emmanuel’s election, was never funded and some are yet to be executed, according to sources. “Many of them (chapter chairmen) received work orders but were never as much as taken to the job sites. Their hopes and dreams died prematurely when they realized they may have been scammed”, a source close to government house said. Similarly, in 2018/2019, soon after Mr Emmanuel won second term, he programmed another set of contract for the 329 ward chairmen, and some reportedly borrowed some money to do the jobs, hoping to be settled at the end, but were disappointed at payment time, the source recalled. When Mr Emmanuel met with the chapter chairmen a few weeks ago, he reportedly apologised for his seeming insincerity and indiscretion, promising to fulfill his promise of giving a bus to each chapter, after the forthcoming governorship primary. Within the Maintain Peace Movement ((MPM), the government-sponsored structure for Mr Umo Eno, there have been reported wranglings over high-handedness, lack of transparency and misuse/ diversion of funds running into billions of naira. While the governor is said to have been displeased with Mr Emmanuel Enoidem, the National President of MPM, sources say he has still been dishing out money recklessly towards bribing their way into the hearts of the delegates. Our reporter also learnt of a fresh plot to lure more statutory delegates with promises of contracts but our source warned that “it’s all going to be phoney contracts as the governor has no intention of paying for such jobs, especially as his tenure is ending next year”, he added. While opining that delegates are free to collect any monetary inducement and still vote from their heart, our source cautioned them to be more vigilant, to avoid being sold another dummy or what he described as a “ Greek gift”. “Nobody should allow himself or herself to be taken for a ride. They should learn from previous experiences. The delegates should start asking why it is mostly in election years that this government remembers them with contracts, retreats and other niceties”, he added.

* Accuse them of insensitivity! Feelers from the much-advertised “leadership retreat” for councillors in Akwa Ibom State reportedly ended in ignominy for Governor Udom Emmanuel‘s preferred governorship hopeful, Mr Umo Eno and his team. The two-day event, which came to a close on Sunday (May 15, 2022) evening at Ibom Icon Hotel and Golf Resort, Uyo, according to one of the councillors who pleaded anonymity, went well until Mr Eno and his team started throwing jabs at the councillors for alleged non-performance. Governor Emmanuel, while opening the programme themed: “Leadership for Service and Victory”, had spoken about “loyalty as an essential leadership virtue” that can stand them out in future. However, Mr Emmanuel Enoidem, the National President of Maintain Peace Movement (MPM), the government-bankrolled campaign structure for Umo Eno, was said to have infuriated the councillors with a remark they considered “insulting and insensitive”. According to our source, Enoidem started the whole problem when he tried comparing the performances of councillors during Gov Godswill Akpabio’s era and those of the current dispensation. “He was booed when he chastised councillors for their inability to do any constituency project during their tenure as he recalled how life-touching projects were rampant during Akpabio's regime”, our source said. Enoidem who was a commissioner for eight years under Akpabio, reportedly recalled going to commission some borehole projects executed by the then councillors in Ika, among others. “It was the height of insult and insensitivity from someone who very well knows the true situation of things in this government. We the councillors felt insulted. We were infuriated as no money has been released for us since the inception of this regime for projects in our constituencies, not to talk of our statutory entitlements being paid”, the source said. But, as if they had not been provoked enough for one evening, aspirant Umo Eno reportedly worsened the situation when he demanded “absolute loyal” from the councillors, claiming they were all done a favour by the governor in having them as councillors, as they “never purchased forms to stand for election”. This, the already upset councillors did not take kindly, resulting in a rancourous atmosphere, which lasted till the close of event, it was learnt. Some of the councillors, it was learnt, openly shouted Umo Eno down, insisting that they paid N550, 000 each for their forms and another N400,000 for other incidentals before they could stand election. According to our source, the councillors challenged Mr Eno to verify his source of information before bringing it to public domain. They also expressed dismay as to why such lies should be told against them, wondering what will happened, if by misadventure he becomes the governor. On Febrary 3, 2022, local government and ward officials of PDP had similarly openly booed Enoidem at the state PDP secretariat, when he tried to present Umo Eno to them as the governor’s choice. Reports said the boo and caterwauling were so deafening that the governor, who was present, after a failed attempt to calm frayed nerves, was forced to adjourn the meeting abruptly. Pundits observed that the reaction of the councillors signalled a continuing rejection of Mr Umo Eno, despite a huge chunk of state resources expended to ensure his acceptability.

UDOM BLOCKS ATIKU FROM CONSULTING AKWA IBOM DELEGATES * ‘His discriminatory and despotic tendency highly unexpected in a democracy’ The governor of Akwa Ibom State and presidential aspirant of PDP, Mr Udom Emmanuel, reportedly blocked a rival presidential aspirant and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, from consulting delegates in Akwa Ibom State on Saturday, May 14, 2022. In a manner reminiscent of undemocratic, despotic and autocratic regimes, the governor allegedly ordered the state party chairman, Mr Aniekan Akpan, not to receive the Waziri Adamawa on the excuse that he (Udom) had travelled out of the state. Abubakar’s advanced team, it was gathered, had been in the state for the past four days perfection protocols in preparation for the consultation visit. Within the period, the governor was duly informed and all relevant appointments booked with the party, critical stakeholders as well as the traditional rulers’ council, according to our source. Atiku and his campaign team were on consultation tour of the South-south zone, and having stopped over at Edo, Bayelsa and Delta States on Friday, May 13, 2022, was billed to visit Akwa Ibom, Cross River and River States on Saturday, May 14, 2022. However, they were shocked on Saturday morning, when they decided the make last-minute checks, only to be told by the state chairman that the governor travelled out the state, therefore, Atiku could not be received for consultation. Many perplexed political analysts were astonished that a modern day leader in a democracy, where there is freedom of association, could exhibit such intolerance and discrimination. Moreover, the PDP under the leadership of Senator Iyorcha Ayu, has been professing fair-play, brotherliness, equity and tolerance of divergent views. “We were more than shocked that a governor in modern Nigeria, in a democracy for that matter, can be so crude and discriminatory to block a fellow Nigerian, former VP and major stakeholder of PDP from consulting members of his part. That’s unexpected. It was the height of intolerance because Gov Emmanuel has been visiting other states without hindrance. This is not the spirit that our party is preaching”, our source said. He wondered how a governor's unavailability in the state could affect a consultation visit, when the party officials and delegates were the ones the aspirant came to discuss with. “Obviously, the governor is very intolerant of opposition. It also showed that he is insecure and knowing fully that he cannot come close to Waziri Adamawa in any contest, he rather blocked him from seeing the delegates. Very infortunate “. The Atiku team, according to the source, is bent on drawing the attention of the national secretariat of the party to the unhealthy development, warning that if encouraged, it is capable of causing serious disaffecrion, Ill-feelings and breakdown of peace in the country. “What if other states start blocking him or any other aspirant too as he does out from consultations? How would the country be if every aspirant, who has control over some delegates, directs them not to receive other contenders to a particular office? Such intolerance and discrimination should be encouraged”, said another source. It was learnt that despite the initially unsettling experience, the Alhaji Abubakar-team was upbeat on their visits to the other remaining states within region. However, in a chat with our reporter, some party leaders and members of the state exco of the party, who preferred anonymity, expressed a huge disappointment with the governor's action, stating that he failed to show a good example in his much-touted concept of peaceful and godly virtues.
