The President General of Ekid People's Union, Dr Samuel Udonsak, has urged all sons and daughters of Ekid Nation to look up to the new year with hope and dedication. In a goodwill message to mark the new year, Udonsak charged all the people of Ekid at home and abroad to recommit themselves to the task of rebuilding their communities and the state. He gave the assurance that 2020 will rediscover the lost fortunes of Ekid nation and that the voice of the people will be heard again. Displaying much focus and commitment, Udonsak said the current leadership of EPU under his watch will ensure that all the relevant issues concerning Ekid nation get due attention and appropriate actions from the year 2020. According to him, EPU has already started consultation with the relevant stakeholders with a view to ensuring that the critical development issues in Ekid nation are properly tackled. He however called on the people for support and urged every Ekid citizen at home and across the globe to get involved with suggestions, refreshing ideas, and committed resources to help make Ekid work again. According to him, no one man can rebuild Ekid but with a combined effort, commitment and dedication, the lost glory of the ethnic nationality can be recovered. Ekid nation, he recalled, used to serve as the bedrock of many other ethnic nationalities as well as serving as the launching pad for some of today's local governments. He reminded the people that they once shone the light for others and led the way to greatness but wondered what happened that Ekid lost its pride of place in course of time. Udonsak however pointed out that the time for Ekid to reclaim its pride of place among the community of nations has arrived with the new year.

Ekid People's Union (EPU) has described Senator Helen Esuene as a rare gem and pride of Ekid Nation, who has brought light and glory into the communities and the entire nation. While presenting a book: "Helen Esuene: An Icon of Destiny" to mark the 70th birthday celebration of Mrs Esuene, the President General of EPU, Dr Samuel Udonsak, said despite her heights in life, the celebrator has remained exceedingly humble and people-focused. The event held on Dec 23, 2019 at Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort, Uyo The EPU President recalled that at birth, Mrs Esuene was named "Glory" by her parents. But Ekid people prefer “Helen”, a Greek name meaning the “Bright One”. He said she has lived the two names, with her brightness assuming a glorious illumination since she got married to Brig Gen Udoakaha Jacob Esuene in 1968. "Yes, Senator Esuene has made us proud. She has been a torch-bearer to communities, states and the nation. In government and in private life, she has been constant. She has taught us the value of humility and the essence of humanity. Despite her heights in the society, business, spirituality and politics, she remains humble. And in her humility, she impacts on humanity", Udonsak said. According to him, "Ekid nation is proud of this rare gem because she brought life and glory to our communities, just like she did in the Government House of the old South Eastern State, as the pioneer First Lady. Her support, companionship, advice and able management of the homefront gave Esuene the needed focus to leave indellible marks as the military governor of what comprised today's Cross River and Akwa Ibom States. We celebrate the one who provided the arms and pillows to rest the head from which came the deliberate focus on people-oriented programmes. "Despite the challenges posed by motherhood, career, societal demands of the Nigerian civil war and post-war era, Her Excellency passionately managed the post-war issues of abandoned/disconnected children by setting up of the Otop-Otop Orphanage home in Calabar, in collaboration with the National Council of Women's Society (NCWS), among others". Udonsak told the crowded hall that "Ekid Nation is a land of old time warriors, freedom fighters and advocates for justice. It is also a proud land of astute administrator, and patriots. That is why we are proud to have lend our bright Helen, at different times, to the Nigerian nation - as a civil servant, as First Lady, as Minister in two minutes, and as Senator of the Federal Republic!" He then prayed God to grant Sen. Esuene another 70 years and urged our leaders to align more with her commitment to selfless service!

Less than 24 hours to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Primary in Bayelsa State, the delegates have been advised to ignore any rumour of endorsement and vote any aspirant of their choice. Elders and stakeholders of the party in state and the party national headquarters, Abuja, gave this advice on Monday. The elders and stakeholders warned against imposition, pointing out that any attempt to arm-twist and manipulate the primary will be resisted. They were of the opinion that manipulating the primary will only give room for the emergence of an unpopular candidate, which in the long run will not augur well for the party. Speaking with our correspondent, one of the elders and leaders of the party, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said "if Governor Seriake Dickson actually endorsed Sen. Diri Douye, it means that the party is no longer exhibiting what the National Chairman of PDP, Prince Uche Secondus has been preaching." He said that Secondus has been saying there will not be imposition of candidate and that the era of godfatherism is over in the party. The elder said: "If what we are hearing that the governor has endorsed Douye is true, it means we don't really know what we are doing in PDP. How will the Chairman be preaching one thing and the governor is doing something else. "What is the governor afraid of? If the aspirant he's endorsing is popular, he should go to the field instead of allowing this issue of endorsement generate bad blood among the aspirants.

Ahead of the Bayelsa State governorship primary scheduled for Tuesday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been urged to monitor disbursement of funds. The call was made by the PDP Youths Vanguard, following the alleged information that Governor Seriake Dickson has endorsed an aspirant. The PDP Youths, in a statement by its National Chairman, James Efe Akpofure, said that the call became imperative following reports in some quarters that the state government will go to any length to ensure its favourite candidate emerges. Expressing concern over this development, the group urged the anti-graft agency to save the state by seriously monitoring its account, so that the government will not liquidate the state all in the name of ensuring that a preferred candidate emerges. "This situation is worrisome, how can a governor allow 21 aspirants to buy forms when he already knew that he has a preferred candidate amongst them. He should have told them not to waste their money to buy the forms in the first place. "It doesn't make sense that Bayelsa government would allow such a fraud. If the preferred aspirant is popular, he should be allowed to go to the field. "Bayelsa money should not be wasted for any person or persons that are not popular. This is the reason why we are calling on the EFCC to beam its torchlight on Bayelsa State finances ahead of the primary. "We know that money will be given to delegates starting from today, because we heard that the governor has directed that a particular aspirant should be voted for. Bayelsa money will not be used to buy any bad product. EFCC should take note and monitor movement of Bayelsa State money," the group said.

The Chairman of Bayelsa State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Cleopas Moses, was yesterday warned to steer clear and remain neutral as the party conducts the governorship primary on Tuesday. The PDP Youths Vanguard, in a statement by its National Chairman, James Efe Akpofure, said that it is not the business of the state chairman to interfere in the state primary, but should remain neutral. The PDP youths said its attention was drawn to the statement credited to the state Chairman, who is supposed to play a fatherly role in the primary scheduled for Tuesday, that fake alerts were being sent to some delegates. In the said statement, Moses was quoted as saying that the one million naira fake alert is a desperate move by two of the aspirants, Timi Alaibe and Kenebi Okoko to hoodwink the delegates to vote for them. According to him, some of the delegates have started receiving the fake alerts with a promise that they can access the money by Wednesday this week after the fate of Alaibe and Okoko would have been decided by them. The PDP chairman had described the action as a political fraud, noting that it is the height of desperation and called on anti-graft agencies to investigate the issue and make those behind it to face the long-arm of the law. The PDP Vanguard said: "This statement is unfortunate and a far cry from somebody who describes himself as the Chairman of Bayelsa State Chapter of the party. "From the tone of the statement, it shows that the Chairman is already biased and his loyalty is not for the party but certain interests. "If he does not want to play a fatherly role by allowing all the aspirants to go into the field, he should as well resign as the state chairman of the party. "He even went as far as naming innocent people just to rubbish them before the primary. He should know that members of the party both at the state and at the national levels are watching him closely. "He should not be a willing tool in the hands of PDP enemies to destroy our party in Bayelsa. He should do the honourable thing and apologize to the aspirants whose names he mentioned in his statement and he should also know that Bayelsa people know his plan, which has already failed. "We want the best candidate to emerge; we don't want any rubber stamp and we don't want imposition. The state chairman should desist from his failed plan, because it won't work. All the aspirants should go into the field, so that the best will be picked among the 21 persons seeking for the ticket.

...Urge Him To Conduct Transparent Primary Taraba State Governor and Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Electoral clCommittee for Bayelsa State governorship primary, Darius Ishaku has been warned not to manipulate the state primary scheduled for September 3. The PDP South South Youth Vanguard, which gave this warning in Abuja at the weekend, urged the Taraba State governor, who was appointed as the Chairman of the Committee by the National Leadership of the party, to conduct free, fair and transparent primary that will stand the test of time. The group, in a statement by its National Chairman, James Efe Akpofure, also warned members of the committee not to succumb to pressure from any quarters. The PDP Youth Vanguard added that the job of the committee was to conduct primary and not to set fire of confusion in the state. The group added that PDP is known as a party that conducts free, fair and transparent primary, unlike the the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) that take directives from above. The group further said that Bayelsa is known as a PDP State and "nothing should jeopardize that status because of personal interest. The primary should be conducted in the interest of all the PDP members. "PDP is a family and all must be treated equally. Preferential treatment should not be given to any set of people. We are saying this because, we don't want anything that will disturb the peace and unity the PDP Family is currently enjoying in Bayelsa State. "The Governor Ishaku-led-electoral committee should put this into consideration and conduct a peaceful primary devoid of rancour and avoidable crisis." The group also pointed out that a primary devoid of crisis will give the party undeniable victory in the November 16 governorship election, as Bayelsa people will like to associate with a party that is peaceful.
