EPL: Man Utd release pictures of Ronaldo in club’s kit, shirt number still secret
Manchester United have posted pictures of Cristiano Ronaldo wearing the club’s kit for the first time since he completed his return to the club.
The 36-year-old looked set to leave Juventus for United’s bitter rivals Manchester City.
But the Red Devils stepped in last Friday to complete a stunning swoop. .
United will pay an initial fee of £12.85million for Ronaldo, who is currently away with Portugal on international duty.
Ronaldo’s new number is still yet to be revealed, with Edinson Cavani hanging on to the No.7 for the time being.
However, a series of snaps from an official photoshoot were released on Tuesday night, showing Ronaldo proudly showing off the famous red of United once again.
Ronaldo was with United for six years in his first spell after arriving as an 18-year-old from Sporting in 2003, helping the club win three Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2007/08.
Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka has maintained that Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Igboho is not a criminal.
Soyinka said the Nigerian Government should tag herdsmen killing people and raping women as criminals and not Igboho.
Speaking with journalists at the Freedom Park in Lagos on Friday, the Nobel Laureate said Igboho’s agitation cannot be criminalized because it’s peaceful. .
Soyinka also criticized the Department of State Services, DSS, for raiding Igboho’s residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.
He said: “I refuse to accept that Igboho is being chased because he peacefully demonstrated his position vis-a-vis the destiny of this nation, which is a fundamental human right of any body.
“Somebody calls for secession, calls for a separate state, I don’t consider that, and nowhere does it deserve to be called a criminal act.
“As long as it is done peacefully, collectively, within the ambit of the law, you don’t now criminalize that action.
“And in addition, commit criminal acts against such an individual, which is what the government, the security forces did by raiding Igboho’s home in the middle of the night, killing two of his own people, then claiming, without a warrant or anything, they found weapons in his home.”
Igboho is currently locked up by security agents in Benin Republic.
The freedom fighter was arrested recently in Cotonou while trying to travel to Germany.
Igboho had fled Nigeria to Benin Republic after he was declared wanted by the DSS.
His arrest followed the discovery of weapons in his house in Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

The Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) on Thursday said that deaths recorded so far as a result of floods in parts of the state have increased to 20 while 37 persons sustained varying degrees of injuries with properties worth N1 billion lost to floods.
Giving an update on the flood situation in the state while briefing journalists, the Coordinator, Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr Abubakar Umar Gabarin, said that more deaths were recorded, adding that all the 20 local government areas of the state were affected by floods so far.
Gabarin, who said that the agency was still collating reports on floodings in parts of the state, added that while 6,000 farmlands were submerged, 47 culverts were washed away with 27 bridges collapsed.
According to him, “We are still collecting the number of casualties affected. However, we have recorded additional figures of death: we recorded an additional three in Gamawa, we have two in Darazo and two in Duguri. Flood brought three dead bodies to Jama’are.
“We recorded 37 people injured. Forty seven culverts were washed away by the flood, while 27 bridges collapsed, 6000 farmlands submerged with over 2,000 families affected and over one billion Naira property lost.”
The SEMA coordinator further said that the state governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, had set up a high powered committee headed by the state deputy governor, Senator Baba Tela, to go round the affected areas with a view to assessing and bringing a comprehensive report on the damages caused by floods in communities.
Gabarin said setting up of the committee followed the governor’s visits to affected areas across the state, adding that the Senator Tela-led committee was expected to recommend to the state government how to assist victims.
He revealed that Governor Mohammed had sent two trucks load of maize and rice respectively, to Kirfi Local Government Area, adding that 100 bags of rice and 100 bags of maize were sent to Giade by the governor to ameliorate the suffering of flood victims in the areas.
According to Gabarin, flood victims in Bauchi Local Government Area were given food items; blankets; cups and plates as part of efforts to assist them.
He added that the state government was making efforts to distribute emergency assistance to all affected communities in the state based on their needs, saying that as the Agency was assessing the situations, it was also receiving assistance from the government.
The SEMA Coordinator, however, expressed gratitude to the United Nations Children Funds (UNICEF); National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA)and the presidential committee on floods for coming to the state to assess the situation of the victims.
He then appealed to donor agencies and philanthropists to complement government efforts by assisting victims.
Meanwhile, officials of the Agency informed journalists that ravaging floods wreaked havoc on all the federal highways in the state, including Bauchi-Gombe road; Kano-Ningi road; Bauchi-Maiduguri federal highways, among others.
They added that as a result of damages caused by floods, commuters plying the roads are being forced to wait for several hours before they can continue with their journeys.

An Akwa Ibom State High Court has sentenced a 47-year-old woman, Gertrude Thompson Akpan to 10 years in prison for child trafficking without an option of fine.
The convict was said to have bought a 6-year-old boy in Uyo and transferred him to Owerri in Imo State where she sold the victim to one Kate Ojukwu Ogbonna, a native of Bende in Abia State at the sum of N200,000.
Mrs Akpan, a mother of three children from Ikot Eyo in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State claimed to be a staff of Immanuel Hospital, Eket, where she said she retired as a Matron in 2015.
She also confessed that she has been in the business of selling and buying children since 2008.
Delivering his judgement, Justice Okon Okon said “apart from the confession of the convict, the evidence of the Prosecution Witness that she assisted the Police in the recovery of the child victim from the buyer in Owerri, remained unchallenged and therefore accepted.”
The Court further held that the evidence of the prosecution is that one Ubong Charles Ekwere had on 12th May 2018, abducted the six-year-old boy in the lawful custody of his grandmother and sold him to the convict, Gertrude Thompson Akpan at the sum of N50,000 and Gertrude in turn, sold the victim to Kate Ojukwu Ogbonna in Owerri at the sum of N200,000. Justice Okon found Gertrude Thompson Akpan guilty of unlawful removal and transfer of the child victim from Akwa Ibom State to Owerri, Imo State.
He said “it is sadistic that Gertrude, a mother of children, indulged in selling the children of others, thereby depriving the innocent children of the natural love, care and upbringing by their parents.
“Such evil trade must be deprecated, forestalled and checkmated by every right-thinking member of the society. Buying and selling of children is against social and moral values of the people of Akwa Ibom State.”
A driver in Anambra State was on Monday allegedly killed by a vigilante operative in Onitsha, over N500 bribe
A resident said the deceased was driving with a lady in his car when they were accosted by the vigilante operatives in a Sienna car.
The source said, “An argument ensued between him and the vigilante operatives and in the process one of them shot him, killing him instantly, while the lady ran away.”
Another source said the vigilante operatives had accosted the driver carrying goods with a lady and demanded money from them.
The source said the operatives rejected the sum of N500 offered to them by the driver before they arrested him and impounded his vehicle.
The source maintained that the driver called the owner of the goods to inform him of the development, threatening to abandon the goods with them. Monday Prayers

PayPal on Monday said it will this week begin to allow users in Britain to buy, hold and sell cryptocurrency through the online payment platform for the first time.
The expansion into the hot digital money trend follows similar moves by the payments giant in the United States earlier this year.
The US firm said its new service would allow UK-based customers to choose from four types of cryptocurrency: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash.
They will be available both via the PayPal app and its website, with the expansion set to start this week and be available to all eligible customers within the next few weeks.

Adamawa Police arrest poly student for allegedly killing and burying his pregnant girlfriend in shallow grave
Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a student of the Federal Polytechnic Mubi, Muniru Abubakar, his two accomplices for allegedly killing and burying his pregnant girlfriend in a shallow grave.
It was gathered that the deceased, Franca Elisha Iliya, an ND 2 Library Science student of same institution, who was was impregnated by Abubakar, died while the suspects were trying to abort the baby.
Abubakar claimed that they both did not want to keep the baby and mutually agreed to secretly terminate the pregnancy.
According to the police, Abubakar took the deceased into his room located at a students’ community behind the State University, Mubi, for the abortion on the 6th August 2021 and invited his friend, Huzaifa Shuaibu who is a student of the College of Health Technology, Mubi, to carry out the abortion.
Huzaifa was said to have administered an injection to Franca for the abortion but she fainted immediately and regained consciousness later after spirited efforts.
Upon recovering, she was given the second dose of the injection after which she was said to have fainted again and never to recover and subsequently died in the room.
Sensing danger, Muniru Abubakar was said to have invited one of his other friends, a student of the Polytechnic, Rabiu Adamu, who conspired with them to bury the corpse in a shallow grave with her mobile phone, national identity card and other items that can expose the heinous crime they have committed. The suspects were eventually arrested after the father of the deceased, Mr Elisha Iliya, raised alarm over his missing daughter.
Iliya, who resides at Sabon Gari in Mubi, told Tribune Online that his daughter left home on that fateful day for school, but did not return, and that they searched everywhere as well as made contacts, but to no avail.
Iliya said that they met her colleagues in the school and one of them disclosed that she left the deceased with her boyfriend, Abubakar and returned to hostel because it was raining.
The police with family members eventually found Abubakar playing football where he was arrested and he was made to take them to where Franca was buried.
Spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, who confirmed the arrest said that the Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Alhaji, has ordered full investigation into the incident.
Nguroje said that investigation so far revealed that it was Muniru Abubakar who impregnated the deceased, Huzaifa Shuaibu, that administered the injection, while Rabiu Adamu assisted in burying the corpse.
The PPRO said that the suspects will soon be charged to court soon.
Meanwhile,the father of the deceased has appealed to relevant authorities to do everything possible and ensure that justice is done.
Two suspected kidnappers, nine alleged internet fraudsters arrested by police in Kwara
Two suspected kidnappers and nine alleged internet fraudsters, have been arrested by the Kwara State Police Command.
The two suspected kidnappers, Rafiu Ganiyu (45) of Idi-Ogun Compound, Ganmo and Mustapha Afolabi (42) of Beside Ganmo, were arrested at about 0530hours on Friday on a motorbike along Ganmo/Omu-Aran highway by eagle eyed police operatives on stop and search duty.
A statement by the spokesman of the command, Mr Okasanmi Ajayi, in Ilorin on Friday, said ” when a search was conducted on them, three locally made pistols and four locally made cut to size guns were found on them. Prophetic Prayers
“On interrogation, the suspects could not give a satisfactory account of themselves, fuelling the suspicion that they were on a kidnapping mission,” he added.
The statement also disclosed that nine suspected cultists were arrested by police operatives in a similar operation on 18/08/2021 at about 0900hours, while on patrol along Malete area, acting on actionable intelligence that a group suspected to be cultists had assembled at a location in Malete.
“A team of operatives attached to the command swooped on the location and nine suspects were arrested.
“In their statements, they confessed to be internet fraudsters and scammers.
“Some exotic cars, phones and laptops were recovered from them,” the spokesman disclosed.
He said the suspects in both cases would be charged to court as soon as investigations are completed.

The dismembered body of a 23-year-old law student identified as Nosicelo, has been found in a suitcase in Quigney, East Cape, South Africa.
A black refuse bag found next to the suitcase contained some of the victim's other body parts, while her head was reportedly found in a cupboard in her home on Thursday, August 19.
The horrific discovery was made after a motorist had flagged down police on patrol at about 7am on Thursday, to inform them a body had been found in a suitcase. Soon after police visited the crime scene, the 25-year-old suspect was found and arrested.

"On their arrival at the corner of Fleet Street and Fitzpatrick road a suitcase with the body of a 23-year-old female was found. Next to it was a black bag with other body parts. While at the scene, police received information that a 25-year-old suspect believed to be linked to the murder was found and immediately arrested,” Kinana said.
"On further investigation, police discovered a plastic bag with other body parts in a house. She was reportedly studying law at the Fort Hare University in East London,” Kinana added.
According to Kinana, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect and the deceased had been living together for some time.
Provincial police commissioner, Lt-Gen Liziwe Ntshinga condemned the incident, especially as it occurred in Women’s Month.
"This is one of the devastating scenes women do not want to see during this Women’s Month. The incident represents a manifestation of the stubbornness of gender-based violence and femicide incidents which are endemic within our society,” Ntshinga said.
Meanwhile, the suspect identified as Alutha Pasile is expected to appear in court on Friday, August 20. He faces a charge of murder.
The northern Spanish city of Gijón on Thursday called off its century-old bullfighting festival.
The city called off the popular event accusing bull breeders and the organisers of “crossing various lines.”
This was after two of the bulls slain this week were named “Feminist” and “Nigerian”, The Guardian UK reports.
Addressing the reporters, the city’s socialist mayor, Ana González, said, “The bullfighting festival is over.
“They have crossed various lines … a city that believes in equality between men and women, that believes in integration, that believes in open doors for everyone cannot allow these sorts of things to happen.” Weekly Prayers
Citing growing opposition among city residents, the Socialist party had decided at its most recent congress to do away with the 133-year-old Begoña bullfighting festival.
According to González, bullfighting was being “used to display an ideology contrary to human rights.”

However, proponents of bullfighting are arguing the controversy stemmed from a misunderstanding of how bulls are named.
The organisation in charge of 345 breeders of fighting bulls, Unión de Criadores de Toros de Lidia, linked the names to regulations set out by Spain’s ministry of agriculture.
In a statement, the organisation said that names were given for easy tracing of bulls, adding that the protocol sees bulls given the names of their mothers.

2023 presidency: Youths must take power, older politicians’ve failed – Asari Dokubo backs Babangida [VIDEO]
Ahead of 2023, leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Salvation Force, NDPSF, Mujahid Asari-Dokubo has said the youths in Nigeria must step forward and take power from the older generation.
Asari made the remark while backing former military Head of State, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, IBB, remark on the age bracket of Nigeria’s next president.
Babangida had recently listed qualities the next president of Nigeria should possess.
Among the qualities listed, the former military ruler said the next president should be within 60 years of age.
IBB also pointed out that the next president of Nigeria should have friends everywhere, must also be well-versed in economics, and be a good politician able who has the capacity to talk to Nigerians.
Reacting, Dokubo said the older generation of leaders have failed, hence the youths should rise up.
The former militant leader spoke, in a video on his Facebook page where he blamed Nigeria’s challenges on bad leadership caused by the older politicians.
He also urged the youths to unite and pick those who can bring about change in Nigeria.
According to Dokubo: “The younger generation must step forward now and take power. Power is not given, power is taken.
“Now that the older generation has realized that they failed. Ibrahim Babangida had come out to say that it is time for these people to retire. And that is the truth. They have nothing to offer.

A 14-year-old girl, Favour Appiah, has drowned in the swimming pool of a popular hotel, Manuex Place Hotel, in Effurun, in the Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
Sources said the incident, which occurred on Sunday , threw guests and staff of the hotel into confusion.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the hotel, located on Jakpa Road, was often used by several oil companies.
A family member of the victim, who did not want to be identified, said the hotel management was negligent.
According to the distraught family member, the pool attendant was not around when the incident happened.
The deceased was reportedly declared missing on the hotel premises by her relatives before her lifeless body was discovered at the bottom of the pool.
“We searched everywhere when we could not find her. We thought she might have gone to change. We checked, but we didn’t see her until we drew the attention of the hotel to the incident.
“The pool attendant was not there when the incident happened. When the pool attendant came, he refused to enter the water. No one could see the bottom of the water.
It was one of the receptionists who just resumed who entered the pool to search if she was there. Lo and behold, she had drowned and was lying at the bottom of the pool,” the family member said.
Our correspondent gathered that the remains of the teenager were later deposited at the mortuary of the Central Hospital, Warri.
The Manager of Manuex Place Hotel, Benie O., confirmed the incident, but declined to give details.
The acting Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State, DSP Bright Edafe, also confirmed the incident.
