Guys, please can a 1.5kva 12v inverter with 100ah battery power a refrigerator rated at 1.1amps 220v. That should be about 242W from my calculation. The fridge will be used mostly at noon and battery will be supported by two 150w (300w) panels.

I'm wondering if the inverter can handle the surge. (don't know how high the consumption can go during surge)

normal refrigerator surge is around 800 to 900w, so it can handle it, but increase panels to 450 or 600w.

I've had this scenario (LVD) kill an inverter before. Attached is a picture of the inverter. Inverter screen went blank and unresponsive. It was quite strange that a battery disconnect by a BMS should kill an inverter but here we are.

the batteryless function on my smksolar and sorotec is good. my bms has tripped on few occasions and nothing happened. i only reactivated the bms and it started working again

My batteries are 200ah, can 10A work for it? I was told 10A is for 100ah and below while 20A is for 100ah battery and above. How true is this?
Then, for the stabilizer, you advised 3kva to 5kva stabilizer. Is it to be connected to the inverter or the inverter to be connected to it?

it depends on your gen sha, 20A might be too much for it,
u are to connect your inverter input to the stablizer.

Good day house.

I have a 2.4KVa 24V Mercury inverter with two 200ah Mercury batteries. I discovered that (in my area) the NEPA input and output ranges between 160-170V most times and thus making my TV guard/surge to go off many times (infact, almost 4 tv guards have been damaged in the process). Meanwhile, i put it on "inverter" mode and not "UPS" mode
1. Is it advisable to connect the tv gaurd to my 1kva stabilizer then, to the inverter, in order to increase the voltage (1kva stabilizer connected in between inverter and TV). Or does the inverter/ups mode has any effect on this (mine on inverter mode?

2. I have a 2Kva-2.3kVa Tiger generator (capacitor once increased to accommodate higher load). Is it advisable to use it to charge my inverter (2.4kva 24V Mercury inverter / two 200ah Mercury batteries)? I once connected it to the generator for like 1-2minutes and noticed inverter charging (bars moving) and no generator dragging. Does it mean it can charge it? And is it going to damage the inverter or the batteries or the generator?

3. I also noticed that my appliances like TV, home theatre always giving some sounds while on inverter back up, and the sound disappears immediately NEPA brings light (charging). Is there any problem with that?

1. 1kva is too small, u need atleast a 3kva to 5kva stablizer, and a quality surge protector of atleast 20A rating.
2, Your gen is capable of charging your batteries, just reduce the charging power to 10A
3, Mercury 24v 2.4kva inverter is modified sine wave . Thats why u are experiencing humming sounds and little distortions
it is also not good for your AC fans and other sensitive gadgets in the long run!. so try upgrade to a pure sine wave inverter!

good. hope your inverter have adjustable settings as quanta charging profile is quite different from similar AGM in the market.

I have also observed icell self consumption isn't mind bugging ..

Snapshot below shows DC current "power on mode" with battery volt of 27.3vdc (AC input unavailable). Self consumption equals 16.9 / 24.6 watts ...

Snapshot A .... Power inverter LCD

Snapshot C ...... Positive cable clamping

This is very nice compared to some other similar transformer based power inverter .. Cheer's

icellpower inverter is the baba for very low self consumption. infact no other midrange inverter came close to it. the 12v 1.5kva version consumes an incredible 2.1w on energy saving mode and 10.9w on normal inverting mode.

This your comment is more about your 3rd point. I never said there are no inverters with better efficiency, I am not doing any comparison here. I only stated my observation based on my user experience (I have the Inverter), if you think it's not possible or can't be true, well that's up to you.

i did not say it is a bad inverter. i am just pointing out the wrong figures. its a transformer based mid range inverter, which will consume nothing less than 60w no load current. enjoy.

That's where I'm having issue. I'm in Lagos now and the project is in Delta state. The bulbs should be 15W (about 10), TV and the freezer shouldn't be more than 120W and 250W respectively while the 4 fans should be around 80W each. Then additional load of say 100W. Let's estimate with these values.

my guy, for this solar energy journey u are about to embark, u might need to spend heavily on energy ⚡ efficient gadgets first.
1, u dont need to use 15w bulbs, when there are super bright 3w or 5w LED bulbs
2, 120W for TV and 250w for freezer is too much. a good energy efficient TV should not consume more than 50w on good energy savings settings, while there are good freezers than doesn't consume more than 130w
3, your 4pcs AC fans consuming 80w(320w) is on the high side, try and replace them with energy efficient DC/AC fans( there ones that consume less than 20w each)

I installed this inverter today.

- Idle power of 3.5kv of SMR inverter is around 7w, (the 5.5kv is 12w).
- It doesn't make noise at all, the fans are very smart.
- The UPS functionality, is very efficient. You can never notice when PHCN takes light, it switches within 4ms. This is a very cool feature I so much wanted. Changing over from PHCN to inverter can be very tiring.
- Inverter works without battery, AC mode supplies mains efficiently with AVR.
- Bypass works when switched off.
According to specs, it has x3 surge power for 20 seconds (yet to confirm this).
I wonder why many people don't really know about this inverter.
Will I recommend this inveter? Definitely yes!

1, this is transformer based and it will consume atleast 70w when inverting on no load, note: i dont mean search mode idle power . so there is no way the no load power consumption will be 7w. to measure that accurately u will need a good battery monitor like BMV.
2, this is not a hybrid inverter, hence it has no batteryless function, it simply has a utility bypass mode, which most inverter comes with.
3, its a good inverter, but there are similar ones with better efficiency!

Growatt 24v hybrids I see can't take my current 8s1p PV voltage input.

I may have go SMK again or get a standalone 24V wall mount inverter and a separate CC.

Any suggestions house?

get a growatts and reconfigure your panels to 4s2p

I was going to make these adjustments but it looks like I have carelessly fried my new hybrid pet

So I was going to shorten the PV cable last night but forgot to switch off the inverter. Breakers I ordered are yet to arrive so there is no breaker between the inverter and PV. There was a loud sparkling noise the moment I put a screw driver to unscrew the PV.

Sent it to repairs but I'm guessing the board is gone and I might be on the look out for a new 3.5kva hybrid.

sorry about that. but the boards are available for sale in Lagos.. i think i saw someone post some for sale @a solar energy Facebook page.

I will go by your advice by connecting the plug I posted earlier to the DC iron then look for a 12V 220V adapter with at least 20A to be used on the normal socket for ironing. Thanks

the price of a 20A 12V adapter if readily available will be more costly than the pressing iron itself. it's best to use it directly with your 12V battery.

That my solar guy advised me to add solar panel of 70k (two 150w) to the powerbank. That only then will I start enjoying it.

35k for just 150w panel is on the high side. 70k can get u 3pcs with small change wink

dont try it, this is strictly a 12V DC pressing iron. it must be connected to a 12V DC source. the only way it can work on your normal socket is to look for a 12V 220V adapter with at least 20A.
