EPISODE 9
Our ride from Casville to Austieres was smooth and fast, all thanks to the fleet-footed horses that pulled the carriages with blinding speed.

I had enjoyed the ride mainly because I had shared a carriage with the stunning princess Enezina and we had talked about lots of things which I can't remember as I write this. Oddly enough, she sounded intelligent, not like that blockhead Elvira.

When we got Austieres, the King told some of the earls to go put finishing touches to the preparation for the tournament.

The remainder of the party went to the King's palace in the heart of the city to rest there before the tournament began.

When I got to the room allotted to me, I quickly sat on the bed and busied myself reading the new scroll Fabianus had given me.

... Chei! See handwriting ooo...

The calligraphy of the author was so poor that I couldn't stop squinting and sweating as I read through the pages of the scroll.

'Wo, I will look for someone to read it to me later jawe,' I said to myself as I dropped the scroll.

I was just about closing my eyes to catch some sleep when two servants walked in to tell me that the tournament had begun.

I stood from the bed and followed them to the amphitheater where the jousting (abi na jonzing ) would take place

'People of casville,' the King began 'we art gathered hither to watch this tournament organized in the honour of the saviour sent to us by the gods, the most excellent Athanasius.'

At the mention of my name, the crowd went wild with shouts and chants. I stood from my seat and waved to the adoring crowd.'

...Dear God, forgive me...

'The Winner of this tournament will have the singular honour of kissing Athanasius's feet. Let the tournament begin,' the King pronounced to the battle ready knights.

The tournament began!!! the knights, all of them dressed in armour and armed with shields, swords and lances (a kind of short spear) broke their ranks and started to strike hard blows on each other.

I did not know whether to laugh or cry. These are just bunches of idi0ts fighting themselves to death over the right to kiss my damned feet. there is nothing interesting in this jor.

'Are these knights bloodless,' I asked my neighbour, when I noticed that most of them being struck by swords were falling without any sign of blood. Na Nollywood movie we dey watch?

'The armours art verily strong and the swords art blunt,' my paunchy, plump cheeked neighbour replied.

At last the show of shame ended with a knight named Proctor emerging as the winner.

As I stood up to return to my room, someone tapped me from behind and I spun round to see the smiling, youthful face of Fabianus.

'Athanasius, how far na? Did you enjoy the tournament?' he asked.

'Errm... Yes,' I lied in reply.

He smiled, a knowing smile. He knew that I did not enjoy the tournament.

`OK. I have brought these men for you,' he said, as seven muscular, tough looking men came to my view.`Their names are Dammexus, Stefanus, Brokotus, Anonimus, Neduzzus, Mutainus...'

' Wait o, what will do with them?' I cut in.

'They are the Knights of the realm. They will be helping you in your quest against Justus and his cohorts,' He explained.

... My helpers eh? This is the only good thing I've heard since I came here o...
