judedwriter:Yeah, Bobby Farrel was his name. Died on tour on 30 Dec, 2010 in St Petersburg, Russia. I still remember the announcement that day on the BBC. Very sad. |
Hmmm. That's all I can say. |
How about the car itself, not for sale? |
Mist100:Hmmm. Well, the cost price of 850 + 300k gives a total of N1.150 M. For a Big Daddy, I don't think it's bad (assuming car is now out of the woods). A few words though for the list you gave. Items 2 (injectors) and 3 (shocks) are easy to identify. A good mechanic will hear the characteristic sign of bad injectors. So, no surprises there with these two. As for item 1 (gear slippage) and item 4 (AC), I've got a few tips for next time. GEARBOX -- Did you carry out the rest drive with the engine cold or hot? And did you drive the car long enough? A slipping transmission may not slip when cold/cool. So if your test drive did not put the gearbox to task, you might miss the slippage. So drive the car till it's hot, and then RACE it. Transmissions are forced to work harder when they have to shift quickly under high speed. So a failing tranny is likely to show itself under hard shifting conditions. If the owner allows you, accelerate the car quickly (when it's heated up) and watch out for the gear changes. Pay particular attention to the shift from 2nd - 3rd gear, as those are often the most problematic gears. Why do this when the car is hot? Now, when a transmission suffers a problem on the road, it typically goes into what is called "limp mode". This is basically like limiting itself to first gear allowing you to drive (limp) only slowly as you get yourself to shelter or home. Oftentimes you'd be advised to wait for the car to cool down before continuing. All of this means if you want to put as little stress as possible on your gearbox, driving slow is the way to go. That also means if you want to test its health (when buying the car) driving FAST is the way to go. A transmission slippage is not likely to show itself if you test drive a car in a busy street, where you can't really race it. AIR CONDITIONING -- Let's be honest, an AC leak is a pain in the arse. It's extremely difficult to detect (without the right tools.) You said the AC stopped cooling after a few weeks, that's typically how long it takes for the gas to leak to the point where its no longer enough for proper cooling. The owner would top up the gas before your inspection, giving you ice cold AC, but which fades away after a few weeks of purchase. However, I have a little trick I use and which tends to serve me well. During your inspection, ask the car owner one of two questions: - What type of AC gas do you use? OR - When last did you top up the AC gas? If he gives you a DEFINITE answer to these questions, BEWARE, there might be a leak. Why? Because, normally, AC gas is very rarely topped up in a functioning (closed) system. For instance, I have used my present car for two years now and I have never touched the gas. Not once, yet it cools me well under the hot Lagos sun. So if a car owner has topped his own recently enough to recall the type of gas he used/uses, that's a red flag. AC gas is some thing you normally shouldn't touch, unless of course there was a frontal impact that physically damaged the condenser or gas cylinder. Otherwise, it's safe to assume that there is a leak in the system which causes the owner to top up the gas every few weeks. Finally, check the AC gas fill up caps. If they look "clean" rather than dusty/dirty, compared to the tubes/pipes themselves, it's an indication that the owner was servicing them often enough -- meaning there is a leak. So don't be fooled by the chilling AC you're feeling. That might be because the gas in there is freshly topped. Give it a few weeks, the chill won't be there anymore. And locating an AC leak is one of the most difficult jobs your AC guy DOESN'T want to do for you. It can be really hard, without the proper chemical diagnostic tools. |
Only N1 million cash prize? The sponsors try sha. If na nudity and noise making things, them for hammer 20 million, plus 4 wheel drive, plus "recording contract" plus their face for don plaster on top sign board for main road. Bottom line: education does not pay in Nigeria. |
Billyonaire:Emm... Actually, it's 538.64 Hz. Most effective when set between 28 - 33 dB, ambient temperature of 26 degrees, and humidity of 60 - 70%. |
Mist100:That's what happens when you buy a car without doing your due diligence (a.k.a your homework). The three most expensive things to fix in a used car are: - engine. - transmission (gearbox). - body paint. The 3rd one is easy to note. The first two can be observed during a test drive, if you have good ears (and a scan tool, too). |
No price. No location. You'd have to do better than that if you want serious response. |
Mr Man, this is NOT a 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander. This is 2006 and below. I know because I know Outlanders very, very well. |
Too bad. Really sad news. |
goldfish80:Same with me. I stopped watching after the third edition. The rest came to me as headline news. Indeed, they watered down the Search for mummy's boys and daddy's girls to survive. I can never forget GUS-1 at Snake Island. It remains the best. BTW, does anyone know where Stanley (GUS 1) is at? The funny, fair, scared-to-death guy who became everyone's favourite at GUS-1. Evicted on his birthday. |
Danelo:Guy, na that lawlessness dey manufacture work for lawyers. If I tell you how many lawyers dey chop money, dey hammer everyday from one court case to another (kwaruption) you go return to School next week. Lawyers are hammering like sledgehammer right now. |
IsraelNicodemu:Receive sense! |
heffem:Hidden issues? Unless so. But how did you know? OP, over to you. |
@OP, nice ride. I suggest you PLACE THIS CAR AS NON NEGOTIABLE. It's a tokumbo for heaven's sake. The only problem I can see from here is the stick (manual) it comes in, assuming all things are working as fine as she looks like. Nigerians fear manual like ebola virus. So wait for that one buyer who LOVES manual drive, and will pay your asking price to the last kobo without negotiation. You only need one buyer. Just one. Don't let the manual force you to sell it for nothing. If it were an automatic, they'd be offering 2M. Don't despair. |
tonwe:The Outlander is a great SUV. A worthy competitor to the RAV4. But I have a warning for you: buy the V6 version. Do not go for the 4-cylinder. Are you aware of the serious problems that plagued/grounded Nissan Murano models 2003 - 2006 (or so)? Well, it was the CVT transmission. The Outlander 2008-2009 uses the same CVT transmission as the infamous Muranos (sourced from Jatco) in the 4-cylinder version, but uses the "regular" automatic transmission in the V6 version. Yes, you read that right, the Outlander uses two different transmission types for the 4-plug and 6-plug versions, respectively! Trouble is, the 2008 Outlander V6 is quite rare. So you might have to do a lot of digging around to find one. The 4-plug, however, is much easier to find. Here are pictures below of both engines. Same 2008 Outlander.

Oga lifezone247, thank you very, very much for your assistance yesterday, confirming the Customs duty status of a Toyota Matrix sent to you by my friend. You spoke with him on the phone earlier this morning as well. I just want to thank God for using you to help him confirm his car before purchase. He told me he was very much relieved after he got a positive confirmation from you on the Customs papers within one hour of submitting the details to you. Please keep up the good work, and may God bless you. |
Nice ride, though this is not a 2008. It's a 2009+. |

Should have titled your list: TOP 10 AMERICAN BIGGEST SECRETS OF ALL TIME What makes you think the Russian nuclear secrets aren't as big, or even bigger, than the American secrets? Russia possesses the most powerful nuclear bomb EVER developed. They also have the largest nuclear arsenal in the world, plus the largest and most powerful intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) called the RS-36 Yars (also known as Satan-2). Your list went ahead with more AMERICAN secrets from Area 51 to US Medical Secrets to KFC and Coca Cola recipe. It's just tiring. NEWSFLASH: America is not the only country in the world. And if you must look for "world secrets" to compile a list, look beyond American sources (starting with ditching Google). The Chinese, the Indians, the Iranians, The Greeks are all ancient civilisations with plenty of secrets. By the way, Buhari's actual health condition in London is presently the BIGGEST SECRET IN THE WORLD. Haven't you been watching the news? |

Na where we fit buy form to apply for the price? ![]() |
ogtavia:WRONG @the sentence in bold. Very WRONG. Market forces are unforgiving, my friend. No dealer or businessman, for that matter, will absorb any kobo of extra cost of doing business. Every price increase, for whatever economic reason, is always passed on to the end consumer. Period. Repeat: Always passed on to the end consumer. That's Capitalism for you. The problem with us in Nigeria is that we are always happy to jack up prices in line with economic dictates, but we do the best we can to gang up against a price drop, even when the same economy dictates it. Take the price of fuel, for instance. Crude oil prices dropped, they refused to lower pump price to reflect the cheaper rates they were importing the products. But when oil prices were very high, marketers pressured government every day for higher and higher subsidy payments. Even this latest drop in the price of dollars, reports reaching me have it that BDCs are already ganging up to slow down the appreciation of the naira. Many BDCs bought dollars at N500, but are now being forced to sell at N450. So, they are currently trying to form a united effort to stop this latest strengthening of the naira. They were happy when prices were rising, they made money; but now that prices are dropping, they are upset. But who wouldn't be? They're in business to make money, not lose money. And that's where government regulation comes in. Mind you, I meant regulation, NOT PRICE CONTROL. Price control is a taboo in a Capitalist system. Price is an exclusive product of the battle between demand and supply. However, Nigeria actually practices a Mixed Market economy (as per the Constitution), not a pure Capitalist one. But government regulation can take the form of policing the various industries to prevent cartels from attempting to fix prices by themselves, against the dictates of demand/supply. How much effort is the government doing in this regard? The reason the dollar rate started dropping recently is because the government (CBN) intervened to thwart the speculative strangehold of the BDCs on the dollar rate. By flooding the market with dollars, BDCs became less capable of controlling dollar supply and fix high exchange rates. If the CBN continues with this intervention (they've promised to inject $21 million every week henceforth), the dollar rate will surely come down to a much lower level. Finally, this is only happening for two main reasons: - Crude oil prices are rising strongly. - Niger Delta militants have stopped blowing up pipelines and oil facilities. The consequence of these two things is that Nigeria now produces a lot more crude oil that we did in 2016. Now, add to this the high price of the crude oil. The result: DOLLARS ARE FLOODING NIGERIA'S TREASURY. The foreign reserves have risen sharply. If you want to see the dollar rate go down and stay down, just make these two things your prayer points every morning: - Oh Lord, do not let militants return to the creeks in the Niger Delta. - Oh Lord, do not let oil prices to fall below $50 per barrel. ADURA!!!!!! |
quentin06:Sure then. I for say make you come my Lekki estate make I show you 10-year-old cars wey still dey shine like mirror, drive like cat, and sound like puppy. |
quentin06:Did you just call Nigerian-used cars "worthless"? I am hoping you meant that as a reference to the really abused cars on our streets. But generally? You have no idea what you're talking about. Edit: There are Nigerians in Nigeria who maintain their cars far better than those white men in Florida and Texas. Don't ask me how I know. |
