I am a proud science teacher (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics). I applied for and studied Chemistry Education at UNIBEN and graduated as the best graduating student in my set. I am yet to go for my youth service but I can tell you that I make over 100k monthly teaching in a suburban community in Lagos here.

Though for you to make this kind of money in teaching in this my area, you must be very good and ready to work your a** out. I can't teach in one school in this community because no school can afford my services here. So I do part-time and I have two private students. Sometimes I teach from 8am to 6pm at a stretch from location to location but I am not complaining since I am getting returns for my hardwork plus I have a strong passion for teaching

P.S. The average amount secondary schools pay full-time teachers in my area is 20-25k. When I go for a teaching job, when you see my teaching skills, my professional dressing, and my education degree + TRCN certificate, you sef no go wan price me low. I can say in my community I do not know any other teacher who read Chemistry Education. I am a hot cake, I don't apply for job. Schools and individuals call me. Once I am done with my youth service, I will seek to move uptown to a blue chip school and continue to enjoy my teaching career. Yes, I will not make millions from teaching but I will leave comfortably.

Conclusion: If you are qualified, very good and teach technical subjects, you can't suffer as a teacher.

Well said. That is the big elephant in the room. There have been explanations put forth to resolve the other two concerns I submitted. These explanations may be lies but giving that they are logical and plausible, I have given the apologetics the benefit of doubt. The big issue that cannot be explained is why the military lied that soldiers were not at the venue as you have pointed out

May be lies but plausible and logical enough. That said the puzzle of why the lights were off that night has been solved. The puzzle of what protesters stand to gain lying about being shot at has been cleared as well. The major issue for me now is, were there soldiers at that place that night? If yes, why is the Nigerian Army denying it? I am not talking about whether the soldiers shot into the air or at the people or whether there was a massacre or not. The issue to me is were there soldiers there at all? All indications so far points that there were soldiers there.

By exerggerated I mean soldiers shot into the air and stray bullets killed just the two Governor Sanwo-olu confirmed dead and not the 78 or 15 flung around social media. By exerggerated I mean there were more of injuries sustained but much fewer deaths than claimed. Please note that I am not in anyway taking sides with the government on this. Even if it turned out that the incident was blown out of proportion for political and other reasons, the fact that the Nigerian Army denies that soldiers were there is bad enough. Even one death on protesters meted out by soldiers is too bad. I condemn the shootings that happened that day and feel for sorry for the individuals and (their families) confirmed dead as well as those who sustained injuries fighting for a better Nigeria. I empathize with those who were there, to have even witnessed soldiers shooting in the air (if that was what really happened) for several minutes is traumatic enough. I am just trying to get a clearer picture of what really happened that night. I am trying to be logical and not allowing my emotions to sway my reasoning. I am trying not to subscribe to an alleged rumour solely because such a rumour is very popular.

This is Nigeria, (almost) everybody na criminal waiting for the opportunity to steal to present itself on a platter. This generation will loot more than the current crop of leaders we are protesting against. Ending bad governance starts from you. Nigerian youths, say no to greed, stealing, cheating and corruption.

That aside, with all the evils of the year, the year 2020 blessed me by adding the following words to my lean vocabulary:
1. Palliative
2. Quarantine
3. Hoodlum

I have been following this whole Lekki toll gate shooting issue. The whole matter is now hazy to me. At first I had no shadow of doubt killings happened that day. Now with all the counter claims floating around especially here on nairaland and good evidences, especially against alleged deaths springing up, I am beginning to have second thoughts. If truly people have been paid to debunk the whole shooting claims, I must say they are doing a great job. But then before I completely accept that the incident was blown out of proportion, someone needs to let me understand why:

1. Folks at the shooting venue will lie that they were being targeted and killed. What do they stand to gain?

2. The Nigerian army denied the fact that they were soldiers at Lekki toll gate, when all videos floating around plus the forensic analysis emphatically proves that there were soldiers there and those soldiers used their firearms, whether directly on the protesters or into the sky, I cannot now say, but one thing for sure is that there were soldiers there. Why did the Nigerian Army deny the glaring fact that soldiers were at the toll gate that fateful evening?

3. The lights were turn off that night.

A very logical explanation to these puzzling petitions of mine, will certainly sway me into taking the stand that incident was highly exerggerated.

Good day everyone I want to join the Xiaomi family. I had a difficult time making a choice between RN8 or RN9. However, I've opted for the RN9 device, just for the sake that it is a 2020 device. My concern is, someone mentioned this device (and even RN8) doesn't work with the regular wired earphones. Is this correct?

Let's say I am quite old fashioned, I am not a disciple of those bluetooth headphones or airpods, and I don't like the idea of buying one, due to the extra costs that that brings.

You and I only began to watch Giggs in the later years of his career, so you can't say he wasn't exciting to watch in his earlier years. For he to have won PFA young player twice at the beginning of his career, he was definitely exciting to watch. I asked you to watch Giggs winning goal vs Arsenal in the 1999 FA Cup semi final and see whether Giggs was exciting to watch during his peak.

The only thing you can brag about Lampard was that he was a goal scoring midfielder, that's all. He was never the "complete" midfielder, that why I say he was overhyped. Giggs on the other hand was the complete winger, for he could assist, cross, dribble and score goals.

The initial question you asked was whether Giggs ever won the PFA award, and you can see that he won it in 2009. You are yet to tell me when Lampard won the PFA award. As for individual awards, the only award you can lay hold on is the FIFA 2nd Best Award Lampard won in 2005. Credits to him, however, you know that there are many incredible footballers who have never been nominated for FIFA awards.

There is no need listing individual awards here. Wikipedia is our friend, go check Giggs Wikipedia page and find out for yourself that he has won enough individual awards to earn the bragging right.

I find it funny that you are comparing Lampard, the 4th assist maker in EPL to the man who has the record for highest assists. As for UCL assists, Lampard is 17th on the list, while Giggs is 3rd on the list, behind Ronaldo and Messi, meaning he has more assists that midfield greats like Iniesta and Xavi. What more information do you need to convince you that Giggs was a legend of a footballer?

Giggs won the PFA award in 2009. Now tell me what year your GOAT Lampard won the PFA award.

As a matter of fact, Giggs was quite underrated because he always played amongst quintessential goal-scoring players that grabbed the headlines such as Eric Cantona, David Beckham, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Cristiano Ronaldo et al. Also during the time of Giggs, the primary responsibilities of wingers was to deliver crosses into the box and not to aim for goals, in fact, central midfielders had more chances to aim for goal than wingers. Hence for Giggs to have scored that lot of goals, he deserves credit. Giggs did his job as a traditional winger which was to provide assists and he has the record number of assists in the history of the EPL (162) and the third highest assist in UCL (only behind Ronaldo and Messi; better than Xavi and Iniesta) Do not forget that during his last seven years, he didn't get enough playing time and he played more as a central midfielder than as a winger, and he was never the choice penalty taker for Man Utd. Only biased Nigerian football fans that only recently began to watch the EPL will not acknowledge the greatness of Giggs.

Lampard was good, but in comparison with Giggs, Lamps was the overhyped player. He was not skillful and wasn't a great passer of the ball either. He was only an aggressive goal-scoring midfielder, besides a large chunk of his goals were deflections and penalties. Schools can safely reopen, in fact many schools in Benin are codedly running "lessons" and some SSCE lecture centers there have resumed classes.

I teach in an SSCE tutorial center here in Lagos. We operated in a coded location for two good months with over 100 students attending daily. We couldn't bear having no money in our pockets and our students and parents pressured us to resume classes, our classes went on successfully without any panic for two months covid-19 until police came around to bust us. As expected, they collected bribe of 30K and asked us to continue that we are covered. LOL We decided to stop because we know that the police is not your friend. They will definitely open office for our head by sending other groups to come and collect their share.

Right now, we are still pinching the proceeds made from those two months, maybe when we get broke again, and the government is still yarning dust, we will restrategise to recommence our classes codedly.

I visited Alaba Intl Market on Monday and gosh! I have never been immersed in such mammoth bodies of human beings as I was that day. We were moving like snails due to massive crowd on the walkway, yet nobody within sight was on face mask. I was made to understand that such is the norm there. Yet the government continue to promulgate unnecessary panic about this so called virus for their selfish gains. Why must you use a sledge hammer to kill an ant?!

I am not saying the virus is a hoax in Nigeria, what I am saying is that nature is fighting a good fight for us because with the SOCIAL COMPRESSION that exists in Lagos, if the virus infects and kills like it does infect and kill Americans, Asians and Europeans, then the prediction of Gates and his wife, would have been very much in place in Nigeria by now.

In the place I reside in Lagos, the people here never abided to a lockdown, not even the Statewide lockdown. People moved freely and markets opened normally even during the one month lockdown, yet till today, NO ONE has been reported to have contracted the virus, let alone brought down by the virus. So what then us the point of the remaining restrictions still in place? Banks claim to adhere to socially distancing inside the banking halls, yet a crowd of people are socially compressed at the gate/entrance as they jostle to get inside the bank. Rubbish. If corona virus is really devastating in Nigeria, no one needs tell any one to obey guidelines and stay at home.

I used to be very fearful about this virus and as a teacher, I educated the doubters and those I tagged "ignoramuses" about the reality and deadly nature of the virus, I don't do so any more, nonetheless I don't deny the existence of the virus in Nigeria. I stopped wearing face mask long ago as soon as I realised that there is nothing anyone living in suburban Lagos can do to prevent him/herself from contracting the virus. The only thing I do now is pray not to get it and observe the little guidelines possible for me to observe, and that should I contract, may it not bring me down to an early grave. Please, if it is possible for you to obey all recommended guidelines against contracting the virus, please do so. As for me, thinking I can prevent contracting the virus by my power, with the prevailing circumstances around me, is akin to me turning my back on reality.

Schools do not play a major role in spreading the coronavirus, according to the results of a German study released on Monday.

The study, the largest carried out on schoolchildren and teachers in Germany, found traces of the virus in fewer than 1 per cent of teachers and children.

Scientists from Dresden Technical University said they believe children may act as a “brake” on chains of infection.

Prof Reinhard Berner, the head of pediatric medicine at Dresden University Hospital and leader of the study, said the results suggested the virus does not spread easily in schools.

“It is rather the opposite,” Prof Berner told a press conference. “Children act more as a brake on infection. Not every infection that reaches them is passed on.”

The study tested 2,045 children and teachers at 13 schools — including some where there have been cases of the virus. But scientists found antibodies in just 12 of those who took part.

“This means that the degree of immunization in the group of study participants is well below 1 per cent and much lower then we expected,” said Prof Berner. “This suggests schools have not developed into hotspots.”

The study was carried out at schools in three different districts in the region of Saxony.

The choice of Saxony is significant because it was the only one of Germany’s 16 states to reopen schools with full class sizes in May.

The decision was highly controversial at the time. Parents won the right to keep their children at home after a legal challenge, and the regional government ordered the study to determine whether the policy had been right.

The findings are likely to be the subject of much public debate in Germany, with full class sizes planned to resume at schools across the country after the summer holidays.

The study tested the blood of around 1,500 children aged between 14 and 18 and 500 teachers aged between 30 and 66 for antibodies to the virus.

Five of those who took part had previously tested positive for the virus. The study’s authors said the fact that only seven others were found to have antibodies suggested the virus did not spread rapidly in a school setting.

Another 24 of those who took party had family members who had tested positive, but only one of these was found to have developed antibodies.

“This means the majority of schoolchildren do not get infected themselves despite an infection in the household,” said Prof Berner.

“We have to take this finding into account when deciding on measures to limit social contact.”

The study was carried out at 13 schools in the districts of Dresden, Bautzen and Görlitz in May and June.

I submit to say that most Nigerians can do nothing to prevent the spread of the virus. In my home for instance, we don't have running water, we share a well with the neighboring compound. Lagos is overly jam packed and nose masks can only help reduce the spread of the virus when everyone wears it. As I am typing this message, I am sitting in my street and can't observe a single soul moving about on nose mask. So what exactly are we doing? If this virus isn't spreading, it must be due to nature fighting some unknown battle for us because we have done nothing to stop the spread, even countries that have placed draconian measures in place and are now recovering have more daily cases than Nigeria. So in my opinion, all these restrictions or partial restrictions are a bunch of nonsense.

After hungry tear me and my fellow young and sharp colleagues for March and April, nobody tell us say make we use our brain organize lessons on code in a coded environment. We have been doing that since May 1st and we will continue doing that. Teaching is our hustle, we cannot come and go and die because of useless FG restrictions.

Good day everyone,

A good friend resident in the United States sent me a token ($100) a couple of weeks ago (during the Lagos lockdown) which I wasn't able to retrieve as at when it was wired because money transfers were not part of the skeletal services banks offered during the lockdown.

Now post lockdown, I have visited several branches of my bank, Zenith Bank, but right from the gate, the security officers will tell me that I can't do a WU transaction, reason being "no network" or "no service". So I concluded that maybe Zenith Bank has issues with WU

So I decided to try my long abandoned bank, Ecobank. In the particular branch I went to (Ojo), the security officers were simply rude and unruly, and only interested in their own shady deals due to the massive crowd at the gate. I managed to get the attention of one of them to ask if I can do WU transaction. He went in to confirm and affirmed I can but must wait. That 's how I waited for several outside the gate in the sun and couldn't even gain entrance to the bank to no avail. He and the other security officers won't even look at my side again.

Please I wish to know if WU transactions still works, also, is there any means of someone in the US sending money directly to a Nigerian bank account? If possible, I may have to ask my friend to cancel the transaction from the States, get a refund and use this option, for visiting the bank these days is a nightmare.

Please, this $100 is very crucial for me and my family, for I am a private school teacher and have been off work since March 21, and life has not been funny at all.

What's is the rationale behind, "gathering of not more than 50"?, Is fifty a sort of magic number? For fvcks sake, a covid-19 soul amongst the fifty may infect a good number of the fifty and they will inturn infect others...

The government should rather advice a gathering of not more than 50 PLUS social distancing or ban all public gatherings all together.

These old folks in power should try to follow up with how the Western countries are tackling this nefarious pandemic and fvcking copy them, since they can't seem to think out a workable plan themselves!!!
