The slots are always available in private universities. A candidate that scores 280+ will be admitted to study Medicine and Surgery in most Private Universities that offer the course. 300+ guarantees admission into ANY private university to study the course. However, anyone seeking to study Medicine and Surgery in any Private University should be prepared to dole out 3-4 million naira (at the minimum) per annum in tuition, housing and other expenses.

The bar to study MBBS in Nigeria is inordinately high because the average Nigerian parent want their children to become a medical doctor, therefore the demand to study MBBS is disproportionately higher compared to other science courses.

For example the year I gained admission to study Chemistry Education (by choice), according to JAMB statistics, only 8 people chose that course for that school that year, on the other hand, 13,000 candidates chose MBBS for that school that year, mind you, the school can only admit 100 each year for MBBS and out of this 100, about a third will come in through connection. So you have 13,000 JAMBITES in a rat race for 70 merit slots. This means that if you picked a random 180 JAMBITES that choose MBBS for that school for that year, only one person would be admitted. Guess who that one person would be? an academic freak and in many cases someone already in the University studying a different course while applying each year for medicine. Hence, you need to score 330+ to be fully confident that you will be that 1/180 persons.

A student that scores 280 is good, 300 is great, 320 is excellent but might not be good enough to get MBBS on merit in a public university in Nigeria. Imagine how hard it is for a JAMBITES of this generation, highly distracted by social media to score 330+. Though compared to my days, UTME questions are softer but the students I encounter in the classroom today have little interest in studying their books spontaneously, which explains the statistics of why it more difficult to score 200 today than when UTME was paper based.

Length and breath of what I have said is: The fact that one doesn't get admitted to study MBBS despite giving the ULTIMATE preparation in terms of study doesn't make the person a bad student. Only those who are exceptionally (freakingly) good academically can score high enough to get MBBS on merit in a public university. The bar is a relative lower in private universities but I bet you know the figures involved.

You may consider other equally good courses to study. I studied Education and currently work as teacher and I can boldly say that my salary plus private lessons in a month beats what the average medical doctor earns in a month in my locality here in Lagos, even if I don't have properties or a large bank account (just like many doctors who started practicing from the time I graduated from school), I can feed myself and family well enough, dress fine and afford a modest accomodation.

I've spoken here based on my decade old experience as a science teacher teaching UTME prep classes.

It is not sarcasm, 500k * 10 is 5 m. Some people paying 500k have a net annual income of 7-10m. Such may also have access to loans. With determination and focus they can do this 5-7m project in 2-3 years.

The comments above from people, sarcasm or not, adjudging the post to mean one can build thus structure with 500k is baffling. Classic Nigerians, slow to process issues but very quick to talk and criticize.

What OP meant is that instead of paying 500k yearly if you find a way to gather 10-15 years rent money, you can erect such a structure.

comparing JAMB with WASCE is way way wrong, from iception JAMB exam was above WAEC and requires a further read or study plan to pass. Simply put, JAMB is A-Level/HIgher School' s lower Six level from inception ... the maths for instance is more of
further/Additional Maths, Government is A levels and the Sciences are more of applications .... there is no confussion about the fact that you need to study for JAMB exams separately, its far beyond a fresh secondary school curriculum.

As a matter of fact, speaking as a teacher with 10 years experience preparing students for UTME and SSCE exams in core science subjects, I can assert that UTME exams of recent years are actually simpler compared to what it used to be in the 90's and 00's. I have home taught students who wrote their UTME as SS3 students, even before before the commencement of SSCE and they easily had a 280, 290 and 300+, back in the days secondary school students can't even venture UME while still in secondary school. You'd finish School and prepare for one full year to be able to take the exam. I prepare UTME and SSCE students in the same manner, and as a matter of fact spend a bit more time analysing concepts to SSCE students because they have essay exams to write. Malpractice aside, SSCE is the more difficult exam to write today.

The modern JAMBITE in the era of widespread SSCE malpractice, approach the UTME with the same level of casualness and passiveness they approached and passed their SSCE exams, howbeit with the answers written on the board. They are brought face to face with harsh reality when they write the UTME and receive the grades that are a true representation of the emptiness of their skulls.

I laughed when the author says there's a conflict between UTME and SSCE curriculums, no statement could be more untrue. The curriculums are one and the same, I don't even look at the different syllabi to plan my preparatory classes specific for SSCE or UTME classes. One and the same.

The quality of students we have in the classroom these days makes the teaching profession very tiring. We are facing students with absolutely zero desire to learn. They fail their exams as expected then some ignoramus analyst begins to write about something they have no clue about.

I bet you GRV has nothing to do with those who wish to conquer the Yorubas and take over your leadership. Do you even think it is possible for that to happen? Some supporters are just being overzealous. I think you guys feeling threatened is a bit of taking things too far. Your territory is your territory. GRV is a Yoruba man with an Igbo mother, apparently the fact that he has an Igbo mother and an Igbo name is his crime in the eyes of many of your kinsmen. Many Nigerians are from interethnic homes. My mother is a Yoruba woman, my wife is also Yoruba. I am a South-South man who was born and raised in Lagos. I just feel wherever we live, we need responsible people to govern us regardless of their tribes. I will rather a responsible notherner or whatever be the governor of Lagos than an irresponsible indigene because I live in Lagos, I pay my taxes and I will love my taxes to work in such a way that makes my environment better. I don't really care about the colour or tribe or religion of the man who sits on Moses seat, at the state or Federal level, just do things right and improve the living conditions of those you lead.

The best protection you can give to your territory is electing accountable leaders. If for you Sanwo-Olu is that person, fine, elect your man. For many residents of Lagos, we would rather have a breathe of fresh air in the Lagos political airspace. The excesses of thuggery is jolly well getting out of hands in Lagos state, I mean right now you literally cannot drop goods you purchase on the ground at the busstop while waiting for a means to move it to your home or stall, the agberos will demand that you pay "owo ile". This wasn't the case a few years back. What does that tell you? I will help you answer, things are getting worse. Lagos State generates lots of IGR yet development seems to be concentrated only on the island. There are bad unlighted roads everywhere. Lagos claims to be the 4th largest economy in Africa yet Lagos has the unpopular accolade of being the second worst city to live in this wide and big earth. The rich Lagos cannot stand other top cities in Africa in terms of development, don't you think the monies of Lagos isn't really working optimally?

I am voting for GRV based on issues he has talked about and what he plans to bring to the table. However, I don't think he will win because the corrupt structure of APC in Lagos might be too strong for him to conquer at this time.

I have been following tweets surrounding this GRV guy for sometime now. I am kinda endeared to him. I will attempt to answer some of your questions.

If you happen to be a neutral guy (not an APC person), I would rather you go look for video interviews of this man as well as the guber candidate debate and listen to how he addresses issues. If you take that to be your focus, rather than holding fast to obvious propaganda and non-issues floating around the social media space, you will definitely get endeared to him.

Foremost, I see GRV as an openminded person who sees himself more as a Nigerian than as a Yoruba man. He will speak against the Yoruba's if the need be and support the igbos if the needs be. Most Nigerians are so emotionally attached to their tribes such that they will blindly support their tribesmen in matters that defy logic or are outrightly wrong. There are tweets where he also displayed solidarity for the Yoruba's but these tweets unsurprisingly won't be paraded around.

Agreed, those tweets are misplaced and the APC have done their homework well if rooting them out. This is their greatest tool to demarket the young man. Everyone has a past and I bet if GRV knew he would stand this opportunity in 2023, he wouldn't have made those posts then even though, that doesn't mean he doesn't still have those feelings deep in his mind. It is best GRV stays silent on those issues because to his real fans and the neutrals, those tweets are really peripheral issues. To the APC guys, those tweets are their main tools to demarket him, if he attempts to justify those tweets, his enemies will never be appeased and will surely punch holes in his responses.

GRV was on air on a TVC interview, in that interview he debunked the claim that Lagos is a no man's land. He said Lagos has legitimate indigenes of whom he is one of them. How can Igbo take over Lagos? Does that not sound strange to you? The only way that can happen is if the Yoruba's sell all their lands to the Igbos. As it stands, the Yorubas are still the dominant tribe in Lagos. If they are scared of the laughable claim that the Igbos want to take over their lands, they should simply stop selling their lands to them, its that simple.

As for leadership experience, he clearly doesn't have leadership experience in public service but should definitely have in small scale private sector. We the youth clamour that we are being marginalised and not given opportunities in political leadership, now here is a youth who has a real chance to get into the corridor of power yet, other youths, his own tribesmen are his major stumbling block. How ironic!

If we truly want the youths to have a fair share of political power, we must we willing to take the risk of ushering then into the corridor of power with little or no public leadership experience.

You guys are quick to quote Paul in the first few verses of 1 Cor 14 but will never reference the first case of speaking in tongues, why can't a "spirit filled" Yoruba Pentecostan minister to an Igbo man in Igbo language? Mind you, Apostle Peter stated clearly that some of Apostle Paul's teaching are difficult to comprehend and I believe his writings in 1 Cor 14 about the gift of tongues is one of those difficult teachings of Paul to understand and has proven to be a big stumbling block to Pentecostals making your worship sessions being sessions of frenzy. For context sake, if you read 1 Cor 12, 13 you will understand that the gifts of the spirits are not given primarily for the purpose of "self-pleasing" they are giving to individuals to serve the body of Christ. Also, you guys have clearly elevated the gift of tongues above all other gifts of the spirit some even saying speaking in tongues is a prerequisite to salvation.

Speaking in tongues as far as Act 2 is concerned is speaking, for a brief period, in a language which is not ones native language as moved upon by the Holy Spirit for the intent of passing across a gospel message to the surprise of the speakers of the native language who can clearly discern that you are speaking a language you normally cannot speak which then confirms to them that you are being empowered by some supernal forces.

The Pentecostal church is the champion of gibberish. They use scriptures like 1 Corinthians 14:2 (unknown tongues) and Romans 8:26 to back up their false claims. The first case of Speaking in tongues wasn't an unknown tongue. It was an intelligible language, hence the term "unknown" must be an error in translation or gross misunderstanding of Paul's teaching which isn't surprising since Peter declared some of Paul's teachings to be difficult to understand (2 Peter 3:15-16). Now as for Romans 8:26, interpreting "groanings which cannot be uttered" as speaking in gibberish is both scriptural and linguistic ignorance. How can what cannot be uttered translate as "loud unintelligible untterances"?

On a final note, the Pentecostal churches claim that speaking in tongue is to communicate in the language the devil cannot understand is simply unscriptural for that is not the purpose of the gift of tongues (Go read 1 Corinthians 14) and such a claim is no where to be found in the bible. According to these Pentecostals, if you pray to God in English or your native language, the devil will understand and then block your prayers from getting to God. Lol.

Una still dey learn. The United States had 4300+ deaths on Tuesday alone. All Naija covid-19 deaths since February no even reach a third of that number, yet US people dey wash hands and do social distancing well well.

NCDC, if you guys want us to take covid serious, increase the number of deaths to 1k daily, we go take una serious but in doing so, people must see evidence around of that number oh.

Covid-19 dey but it isn't a problem to us here. Somehow somehow, the thing no dey wound us for here. We can live with it.

Agreed, if covid-19 exists here, the number of persons that have contracted the disease must be way way higher that the number of daily testings conducted and positive cases reported. If this is the case, it means many Nigerians had or now have covid-19 unbeknownst to them. The big question is, if such is the case, why aren't people getting sick simultaneously around the country? Why aren't people dieing randomly and mysteriously from the "deadly" disease?

My submission is that if covid-19 is real in this country, then a large percentage of Nigerians have contracted this virus (far far more than the near 100k reported) and the fact that there has not been a wave of sickness or hospitalisation in Nigeria proves that covid-19 is not a problem to us. Consider the fact that Nigerians do not follow prevention protocols at all (wearing of facemasks is like closing only one out of 50 doors open to the virulent virus) compared to a country like England where the populace generally follows protocols to the letter, yet had 55k cases a single day some days back—more than half the reported cases in Nigeria since February 2020. If you have a contrary view, let me know, I am open to learning.

OK...Notwithstanding, the guy need to improve on his writing skills. You can not survive with this way of writing in a standard/multinational organization..

He didn't portray himself as a pro writer, he was only sharing his experience as a teacher while on youth service. He wrote well enough, well above average, such that only the critical reader like you can sniff out errors.
