I must say that Nigeria's win was a pleasant surprise. I thank God that we didn't field the pompous big shot players who have supposedly seen it all. They never play for love or passion (much the same thing) but for money and fame. I see succumbing to Brazil in the finals. We try na. Brazil never win this thing and u can't compare those samba maniacs with our poor eagles. But a very nice outing indeed. Silver is not bad by any standards. Africa by the way did great. What's up Mukina? |
Dude. I give up. All the stuff there is beyond me. |
Okie doks. I'm on it. But I'm sorry cuz I know next to nothing about the local league or the players therein. Will still give it a shot. |
In as much as I hope you won't resort to watching 'home videos' I trust you're not suicidal. I've seen almost all the series worth checking out but a few managed to out smart me. Some just don't click with me and I just can't get to start it (Nitpick). My younger brother recommended Jerry Bruckheimer's Justice. Says it OK. I haven't seen it. Also there's Heroes coming up soon. If you can shut off your intellect and enjoy the new 'heroes'. Spikyn mentioned Hustle (up to season 3). I never paid it any mind. I thought it was some 'you killed my master thingie'. But drawing on the fact that nothing pleases Spikyn easily I might check it out. I'm saying this for your benefit Ice_Zik. Anyway people nowadays think it takes only special effects to pull a crowd. Whatever happened to stuff like X-files? I used to like all of Gene Roddenberry's work but there're all 'classics' now. I knew Speed Racer couldn't be anything but wack and I didn't even bother to read reviews or check out trailers. I even have fond memories of Speed racer when I was a kid. Anything would do then, you know. Ninja Robots. Voltron. Johnny Quest (can't be that bad now) etc. Spikyn and Ex-Inferis really did get going with Tolkien"s work. If I didn't know better I'd say y'all were a couple of connoisseurs that make the simple taste of beverages overly complex issues other than the simple good or not good. Thank God y'all started the back and forth exchange thingie and finished it in a day. I attempted to read a paperback copy of the Fellowship of the ring and (sorry y'all) got a little bored. Maybe if I had read it before the film, I'd have liked it. Just the same way I walked out on the Da Vinci code which was a reconstruction for people who cannot read and want to pass an exam based on the book. Thanks Ice_Zik for the heads up on Rocknfella. I totally love Guy Ritchie's works. In fact I love the whole genre of twisted Irish and briton dialects. Trainspotting. Lock, load, Snatch, Lucky number Slevin, even the B-movie, The Bank Job after you get bored enough to watch it. I just hope it's just as good as the rest. |
Ah! the moon must be blue! Oga Spikyn's in the building. Where'd you go. We missed you so. Seems like it's been forever. Since you've been gone. (lyrics by Fort Minor). Wall-E was highly rated by since pixar always hit the bulls-eye or thereabouts, people are not exactly going gaga over it. I pray Nolan stays away from any comic hero flick after TDK cuz he simply won't be able to top that. As for QT I talk later. |
Thank God QT is back with another project. And thank God Brad has finished 'resting'. I hope this will be as good as Snatch. Can't even dream of QT making a different genre. He once said violence in movies was an art form. Graceful like ballet. I doubt the latter but definitely the former is frigging A. Someone once while sorta dissing Scorsese said something about him being streamlined and all that. And in his defence another asked "what about the Aviator" If you ask me the Aviator has its own share of wise guys and muscles. All my yapping is just to cement the fact that all the people involved in film making have their strong suits and there should be adequate division of labour here. But of course what makes a film maverick is when he's master of two or more trades, like Spielberg is. Hehehe. I'm beside myself. @ Ex. What does your parole office want with me. They don't have jurisdiction. I have to be caught and prosecuted/convicted and released on good behaviour or whatever deal before they can even think about it. But then you only said 'a word' after all. |
! |
Ol' boy. We now REALLY gotta hook up. Let's do some puff-puff-pass. Hehe. I trust your stash is organic. It's good for the lungs. Me, myself and I are going to have drinks and grab bites. If I decides to go home Me doesn't think Myself will be able to argue with I's decision. Plus Me is secretely wishing for I to go home since Me is tired but it's Myself that is always at the end of the cigar. His ass is always on fire. Since these guys cannot do anything separately I guess I'll call it quits since I am the master of Me and Myself. disclaimer: I was under the influence when I wrote this, so I cannot accept liability for what I've said or what anybody postulates thereof. |
Haha. Stay off the ol' habits or it's back in the slammer. Painkillers is not an excuse when there's only fabricated pain. |
There goes Gamine with em punchlines. Big bird kissing. Talk about shoving it down your throat. You'd get the beak and no tongue. Harry Potter is mostly harmless fun. You have to leave your maturity behind to enjoy it. After all y'all aint the targeted audience. Harry's gonna be 16? Wow. Old! Let em push him to the background for once I wanna see how the one who shouldn't be named earned his notoreity. |
The most addictive game in the world no doubt. I played this game for a total of 34 days. I mean my time spent on it was 34 days. My addictedness rating was "this is my life and I'll do what I want with it" for a long time till it changed to "Strain injury, anyone?". But all that was in 2007 FM. I just got the 2008 FM and I'm just clocking a day. It's better than the last one but there are still some bugs in it. |
Half Blood Prince, right? I read this sometimes back on a PDA. It's suitably dark, I'd say. This is gonna get the rating up. I mean the PG. At a fund-raiser, Rowlings delivered a book for charity which some spoilt rich dude would buy. She claimed not to be working on a prequel. Me? I wouldn't mind. I fairly opt for more darkness and enough of all these kids doing Stupefy. Let's get more Crucios. It'll be good. Shebi there's one more book to be rendered, abi? |
I don't want demons. I want simple run, shoot, dodge, shoot some more, dodge, reload, shoot, shoot, reload, shoot, miss, run outta ammo, run for dear life. Mark fits the role though. Since I saw Matt Damon do Bourne okay, I believe anything is possible. That's one of the few trilogies that didn't go downhill. Maybe it's because the directors changed with each one. Others are Godfather. LOTR. Spiderman. The ones that spiralled, X-Men, Matrix, Blade I hated the last Harry Potter, but the former four were good. but then that's a what, pentalogy? It's for people like my friend that the phrase 'techically speaking' was invented. |
Haba mallam! Quiet ke? Dude some of us have to do the typing. Who knows what contrapment you've got there. Speechtotext.exe . I don't think it's beyond you. |
@Ex, those scripts sound fun. Your game is shoot em up, no? Like them flash games I see on promotional sites? I'll dig up the screenshots. @ Ice_Zik. I'm appalled to hear about demons in max Payne. I just finished the second Payne game a month ago. They have more than enough material in there. Even though I don't like perfect renditions of source material, like in the Da Vinci Code, I still like originality mixed with novelty. Demons in New York is not novelty. I an apparition. I didn't even bother to check TDK's gross. I can't say that I expected less, for there was a great much ado about it. I didn't mind Hellboy. I've seen the second one though. About the super heroes thing. I'd noticed this a long time ago especially with the third Marvel film. Pixar got their hands stained with the Incredibles but it was exquisite so they're excused. Very soon when material is running thin they'd give Atom Ant a try. They mainly play on people's nostalgia. When you see a comic of 'those days', you'd wanna know what they did with it. @Gamine. So you returned my call, eh? Apparently we're all aspiring and not so aspiring authors. The problem is I don't want to go through that learning phase that many writers go through. I want my first book to be off the hook. That would now be my (0,0) axis. If I can't top that, there goes my career. I can in two weeks turn out plenty of the shit going around nowadays. I remember one day I was in a bus with a an acquintance eager to make an impression. In the course of our discussions he hands me a 'book' (more like a pamphlet) and goes I wrote this when I was in school. Being my usual polite self, I made a show of skimming through it and gave him the cliche, nice work! The crap was bull about morality and AIDS and spirituality. I'm thinking everybody gets a healthy dose of that from his parents. If you didn't, you'd certainly not pick up any book. I wanted to play with him, so I asked who were your publishers. He murmured something. I went on to ask how much they paid him, he looked blankly as if I was vastly mistaken. He posited that they were not supposed to pay him. He payed them. I said, oh, that makes them printers then. He said, no, they're publishers. I now asked him what he did with his plenty book newly printed, sorry published. he said he marketed them and stuff. On asking how much he made, he answered he barely broke even. Now the poor guy will think and claim he has a book under his belt. |
It's funny cuz I'm also writing a book. But it deals with multiple perceptions of things that would be 'apparently' the same thing. Idea came from Rashomon, an old flick that I've never seen but am a huge fan of nonetheless. We could compare notes if you will. Plus this would be my first book and I intend to break my genre into the mainstream. I haven't got the hang of this, especially sequencing, so I figure I'll need two to three years for this since I'm busy with other stuff. Maybe by next year the first draft should be ready. Then tweaking and editing begins which I'm way more naturally talented at. I could nitpick other people's work but to satisfy myself, oooh, pretty hard. So I see you're into programming bigtime. So what are we talking about? DirectX? C++? Don't ballistic o, I don't know squat about those. Just a regular game junkie myself. Nowadays I enjoy the simple things. I played a Snes collection on PSP and was swept with nostalgia. Even played the good ol' Sonic. I remembered the days of SEGA's gamegear. We really felt like the ish back then. @iice, don't look for akin again for he's 'indisposed' due to some authority who's indisposed to nairaland. As for Skipyn, BROS WHERE IS U IS? I know Gamine is somewhere lurking, punchline at the ready. Ex teases you with the Elf thingie, does he not? So Fair long living Elf, mayest thou honour us with your revealment. What have you guys been seeing? |
What about Baphomet! That's as dark as it gets. Not apparently so too. That's the MO of dark. Dark doesn't want you to know it's there. Dark's always there. It just get's pushed to the bakground when light comes. Light needs dark to shine but it can get so dark that light would be sucked up, viz black holes. What am I doing? Aha. I knew Neoteny was not entirely news to me. So does Neoteny have any meaning implied or accrued? What did you do wrong to get banned? Me? I've not had the honour to irk Seun that much. Still trying though. Trouble is I do not stray far from movies. There's material here. Most people don't read my kinda books or listen to my kinda music. But with movies I can enlighten and be illuminated too. So true! We do not even know what the Architect or the Oracle stand to gain from all the contretemps of the war between man and machine. How Morpheus found Neo is akin to how Mohindar finds the special ones in Heroes. By a method called bullshit .If there were to be another installment of the Matrix, it should feature millions upon millions of angry people who are eternally ungrateful to Morpheus and his cronies for waking them up from that blissful sleep. These are folks that have never really been awake to begin with. Now there's no sun, no basketball courts, No vegetation and all the bounties of this world. If I was asked to take the blue or red pill. I'd take none or both. The truth is over-rated create your own truth and live with it. No doubt it turned the century with some of the breakthroughs of slow mo. Everybody was scampering to do this afterwards. Even toons. Osmosis Jones and legion did it afterwards. It wasn't really groundbreaking tehnique. Nor was it new. Even SEGA's favorite hedgehog does it. it's just pleasing to the eye, cuz everybody would like to pause time and be independent of it. I never watched Timestoppers. I saw the trailer ages ago and never heard about it again. Let's just leave the Matrix alone for it is subject to endless debate. I love the parallels you drew with Dark City and the Matrix. It's food for thought. |
It's doggone sad! Death always seems to happen to the other fella. I'm not much for eulogies but I liked the artist and the man. The family man. I can just imagine the state his wife is in now. Sigh |
Goddamn. I come here after a few days and I have to read faster than hell to catch up with y'all. Ex, I can also call u Ex right? I think maybe you should save that piece of yours for later. The one about everybody going for whatever rocks their world. And the critics thingie too. I actually have the same beliefs about critics but most of the time movies that they celebrate are usually from okay to great. But sometimes they can be too hard on some projects. For instance, I'm not one to be dazzled by star power. I give some films props when I look at their budget and the cast and see that they managed to pull off a passable film thereof. Whereas there are others where the budget is enormous and that seems to relate linearly with their mediocrity. There are films for instance again that are forced down your throat as classics. Not until I got older did I start choosing what was classic (like Phenomenon, just fluid!) and what was not for myself. As I said sometime before people get my respect only if they are able to hit the bull's eye repeatedly. Every nincompoop is entitled to one hit, albeit mistakenly. As for the Matrix, which seems to be a topic for endless debate, I think they should have wrapped it up at the first installation. I couldn't find much wrong in the first one. But as they ventured into the second and third, wahala rained in cosmic proportions. I have questions too. First, I thought Neo was special because he had a more than normal control of his conscious and subconscious mind. Which follows that all his powers are in his mind and he can only tap into them in the arena of the matrix. I see him as a virus in the system of the matrix. Okay, that's just base material. Now the questions. What was the idea of Neo seeing the Smith possessed maniac in fiery outlines after he'd just been robbed of his eyes. He has psychic powers too you say. But then the dude he saw was wearing the quintessential dark shades of the agents. Meaning he view the guy as not the guy but as another Smith infested drone. Explaining that will take forever. The Oracle, knows the future, A computer bug knows the future, I'll trust you all with that exploration. The final showdown between Neo and the machines where Neo apparently gave his life like some Christ to negotiate for some kind of peace. What's with that too. The way I saw it, the existence of the humans and the machines were mutually exclusive. Period. And the humans. I find it a stretch of the imagination how they managed to live that long. But at least they saved us the trouble of how they got Zion installed. I can go on and on, but I won't. I'd have left these things to rest but, let's just say I'm allergic to bullshit. Sneeze!! Excuse me. Ha ha. You know Ex, I actually haven't seen Face/Off from beginning to end at one go before, just because I couldn't get past how they expected to pass it off that a face swap also entailed a body swap. It is just down right absurd. And you know what just offended me? It was getting a dead dude's face back on a living one without any apparent blemish. If you go for a face lift, you'd look slightly comical like you could have an eternal surprised look on your face. Or a questioning look or whatever. You certainly won't remain the same. Neoteny. I'm sure I've heard that name somewhere before. Maybe even on nairaland. ID theft? I had a brief fling with Rottentomatoes until I found that it was infested with fools who only want to see things go bang in movies and don't want to even know why. It's sprinkled by some brief instances of brilliance. But they are few and far in between. And Gamine. ditto. Some meats should be universally acceptable. Absolutely! |
Whoa! All of sudden more stuff appeared from what I thought you replied. Unfortunately I gotta go and cannot reply at length. |
Man! Do you have a stenographer? Keeping up with you is so hard. Well lemme clear something up. A great actor in my own opinion is one that can convincingly mimic a wide range of personalities. Right! Everybody agrees with that. But here's the punch in the stomach, not always is the better actor suited for the same role. Actors have their comfort zone. A natural realm where being themselves is not only enough but just perfect. Keanu is not even a good actor because he can't act. But nobody can act like one more than oneself. Keanu does some of his films better than better actors because that's him being him. Nicolas Cage on the other hand while seemingly having more depth cannot escape his natural 'nice guy' looks. I forget this film where he was a bad dude with a goatee, Kiss of death? That was simply horrible. Bottomline is no matter how great an actor you are, you just can't do what you can't do. Imagine Rob Scheider as Thor for example. I'm actually laughing. Dolph lundgren! That guy really vanished. Maybe your perception of Thor is different from mine, for I see him as an uncultured god who wields a very big hammer to convince people or 'give them offers they cannot refuse'. Except of course you see him as the guy in the comics. Anyway, maybe I was relating to much to Asterix and Obelix. My mistake. Dolph is ideal. Pus his accent will do wonders. But before we get ahead of ourselves, who is been touted as favorite for the role. Considering i just heard about this Thor thing. Na wa o. Every film must now feature a hero. What happened to the pain ol' John Smith days? I didn't think Will was so good in I am Legend. I didn't even like the film. Everything just seemed too unlikely. He wasn't that bad but I just didn't rate it as much as I did before. Trailers are a wonderful thing. I enjoyed Hancock (the first half) even more. Dark City huh? I hear it's out on DVD (officially). It really was great. More so for a 20th century film. At the time it was made I was more interested in Power Rangers. You seem to be a lover of the noir like me. We'll relate. Try Open your eyes, if you've not seen it. It's Spanish though. I'm always one for twisted labyrinthine plots. I noticed you're in KD. I live there too but not usually there for a reasonable stretch of time. Maybe one day we'll hook up. If for nothing else other than that delicious Alfred Hitchcock collection you've got. I read that up in another thread. Swell job on this thread? I'm but a piece of the action here. The thread just seems o attract the right folks and screw-ups seem to leave us alone. |
I don't think I'll post on this thread again. Not like I rate anyway, but I just cannot find a way around repeating myself again and again. Oldies are best talked about on a patio with lots of coffee and pets. You'll just keep scratching your head tryin to remember some film or some guy and end up saying what you or somebody else has said already. Sorry Gamine! |
I can hardly believe I've been away this long. But before I forget let me comment on Keanu. It's ABSOLUTELY horrendous that he'll be casted for such a role. During my very long catch-up I realised you (Ex-Inferis) asked about Val Kilmer. Now he's optimal for this role. I'd prefer Buscemi to Keanu. That guy can't even smile convincingly. But nevertheless I dig Keanu as a guy who can vividly portray someone who doesn't really give two cents about himself but as a lot of people depending on him. He was really good in Street Kings (no, he was great). Same goes for Constantine. Even that romantic one, Walk in the clouds or something. I think he'll do okay as long as he doesn't have to speak too much and express too much emotion. That's his strong point. And lastly this venture into Plastic man only reiterates my opinion that Hollywood is lacking material or that they've compromised on art for megabucks. On to sweeter things. Ex-inferis and Gamine. Did you guys talk it over before coming here. I enquire because I actually sought you both out in the "Review any movie thread" It just seems funny that I should have succeeded without really trying. We in this thread are very close pack, you see. iice is like the Alpha female, the type that rips your head before, you know. My humble self and Spikyn make for the others. We have some other people making cameos but It's essentially us three. So I hope y'all will keep this up. God I sound like a salesman. Don't know much about Watchmen. But I don't think it'll be bad as it seems to be dark and deep like Snyder seems to like his stuff to be. He's like a QT protege. Good luck to him. I saw y'all were talking about Thor. I don't like the idea of triple H. What? Do you think that guy can mimic a statue. He can't act worth a penny. John Cena and Edge and pretty much everybody from WWE think they're still in the ring (save maybe Dwayne Johnson). I'd like Mickey Rourke or Ron Perlman to do this. They look rugged enough. Just think of Ron with a long moustache and enhanced like he was for Hellboy, that's as Scandinavian/Viking as you get. As for entertainment versus realism. Well, for me, I see films from different views. Sometimes I see a movie and love it for how close they come to real life reconstruction (Schindler's List, Munich, Saving Private Ryan) or how far out they are (A. I., E. T., Minority Report). Do you guys notice a pattern. I'm just playing though. But what I hate is for a film to be a documentary when it's attempting to be fantasy or for an attempt at black humor to become stupidity by a simpleton standard. Whatever a film sets out to achieve, it should or else it straight to the trash can. Look at almost Tim Burton's Batman or Mars Attack. It's ridiculous. But that's what he set out to accomplish so I like it. There's this film where the cast are only two. I'm serious. They were lost in the desert and while walking in circles one dies off while he was almost at a road. End of film. I like that. I can buy it and keep it to bore the shit out of an unwanted guest. Ex-Inferis (can I call you Ex?) and Gamine. Thanks for getting Spielberg up there. I know it's your doing. |
iice, nihongo! Didn't even realise it had been '2 days' I really hate how desperate studios are becoming nowadays. You don't even get to anticipate a good movie like the old days. What's this I hear of RE: Degeneration. I'm really beginning to hate CGIs. I just saw Beemovie and Alvin & the chipmunks. I loved em both. Felt like a kid again. I even ripped some songs from the latter. iice, you say book. What book? Bones and coffins? Or is that a coded greeting from our friendly neighbourhood ghoul. |
Nigga, you do not even know Jiddah. And you hate her already! Just cuz iice seems to like her. The friend of my enemy is my enemy, eh? Anyways, since I am objectivity personified, I'll be objective and ignore all your yapping. Ironically you sound like a bad imitation of the Hulk guy that you hate so much (or is it this particular one?) Lucky for you I don't really dig the Incredible Hulk as a super hero so sip easy. And a word of advice, if I may, How can you dampen the joy you derive from something by seeking to justify its logic or its sensibility? Almost all the things we like in this world we like for fairly different reasons, my boy! Like what you like and discard all rationality and false morality. Now considering that you might be some sick bastard, I'm not saying you should embark on that closet desire of slaying six year old girls but as iice so aptly put it; 'Whatever keeps the rays reflecting on the dye' And iice, such class. You no fit shout! Bravo! Bravo! Poor Egnite needs thinks I'm whipped. Jiddah'd say he needed a hug. I've seen the Samurai X thingie up to the 60th episode in two days! I can fairly speak Jap. iice dono! |
Seems like you're on the right path, not like I'm a Jedi trainer. I gotta leave y'all now. I got places to go and people to see |
All y'all off-topic posters and spammers. Y'all do your business for today only. It's a field day, people. No banning today o. SEUN BABA! HAPPY BUFFDAY. I'm not notorious so you'll know me not! |
Men I like em from 50's to the 80's but there are really some good ones from pre-World War times. Actors those days that are still alive are few. I think Mickey's still kicking. Robert Redford, Elizabeth Taylor, of course (Divorce enthusiast), and if you wanna add the not so old, you got, Meryl Streep, Susan Sarandon, Dustin Hoffman, Jack Nicholson (MY GUY) and , you know I'm sure. Lemme recommend some since you like TCM; The Great Dictator Maltese Falcon Cat on a hot tin roof The King and I Gigi Cleopatra (didn't really like it, but for reference purposes) Gandhi (I know you probably have seen it but watch it again now that you're older) And since you're an 'elf' and you 'seek' people to tickle your fancy go and check the Godfather trilogy out. You must be like, what? duh! Hopefully you chuckled at that! |
Well I'd wished they'd stayed truer to the manuscript than they did. The old man Harris got his ish down tight but them Hollywood folks can f**k things up. I do not however like films to become a translation of books, like it was meant for those who don't have time to read the book (like the Da Vince Code, word for word) but there are just some elements you can't tamper with. That's why Silence of the Lambs won an Oscar. So everybody's waiting on TDK eh? I shoulda been on this thread since. I did some catching up and I'm impressed with Ex Inferis, Gamine and of course Miss iice. I'll be back |
Hey y'all. Now this is my kinda thread. Though I hope it's not a 'girlfriend' thing that y'all have got going on here. I'm also a fan of Hitchcock. And Bogart is EVERYONE'S favorite. And I ain't from Mars. As for my favorite actors/actresses other than Humphrey, they include but are not limited to; Bette Davis, Mickey Rooney, Spencer Tracy, Olivia D'Havilland, Frank Sinatra, Gene Kelly, the two Hepburns, Judy Garland and men, many more. Favorite movies; I used to be crazy about the Wizard of Oz as a kid, Then there's Cinderella (I forget the actors therein), Ivan Hoe (I think with Robert Taylor), Robin Hood (I think with Errol Flynn), BenHur, North by NorthWest and oh God, of course most of the Oscar winning films too. The films of those days really required you to put in your all. Not like nowadays where any lackadaisical performance might just earn you an oscar if everybody else produces equally or even more lackadaisical performances. There's this film I'm after too, Rashomon, and I'd do most anything to get it. I do not want to flood your thread, so holla! |
Word? I just finished Max Payne 2; The fall of Max Payne and I was just telling my brother that these guys got a lot of story in their game. Though I think the first one had more story to it but I'm just happy all around to hear this. Hollywood seeks material anywhere they can find it nowadays. I can't download the trailer right now. I'll just search for it on Youtube. |
Hey dude, you musta heard about half bread being better than none. I actually used to dig e-books back when I used to dig 'big' phones but now as I am older, Hit you with a PM? I've never seen jack on your profile before. But since I'm as transparent as vacuum, my details are on my profile (way too much details, I'm beginning to think) so you could send them to my mail. Yeah I heard about Patton. Had something to do with Clint, innit? And I'm vaguely familiar with the soldier himself (real life I mean). I've not seen it though. |
