You guys will have to forgive me for I thought carefully and sought out a compromise between too obvious clues and ease of googling. I do not fancy clues that point at actual books written for an unimaginative dude will draw the right parallel sooner or later. But on second thought I realise that some of the authors I encypted might not be the most popular. And even if they crossed one's path, you'd have to be fairly obsessed with them to have known some things about them. So I'll give more clues to worthy ones and let alone the easier ones, at least by my own reckoning. 2. You must have studied his book in school where a certain young son of a gun always wants more. 3. One of her step-granddaughters is Diana, Princess of Wales. 4. He's an archaeologist. I'm afraid I can't go further. 5. He's a favorite of mine and even though it might be hard to fathom his identity, I'll reserve the privilege of unveiling him to y'all. Mad_Max. Nice going! Thumbs up, mami. Kay9. Please call me Vesc. My peeps do. Or you could follow Mad_Max' cue, V for Vescucci. I'm afraid any word that contains one 'u' and two 's's lets me off in a naughty tangent as I immediately think of wuss, pussy, sissy. And me, I'm a brave knight always on the prowl for a DID. DID, take that as a pro bono quiz. Or you could always rewatch Hercules. The Walt disney cartoon. Sisikill has two 's's too. hmmmmmn, funny coincidence. |
Mad ke? I happen to dig people with a few screws loose (not too many) but u certainly aren't full fledged yet. ![]() Never experienced deja vu? Now that's really strange. It's either you catalogue all your dreams or you have none. Anything else that 'doesn't happen' to you? |
All I wanna know, Sisi is who the girl with the ponytail is in ur band. Maybe u need to lecture her in curbing over-zealousness. We ain't out to destroy nollywood, we just wanna change it. About AIM, I can't manage that cuz I hop from cafe to cafe. And that messenger is rarely installed on em. Mail me already. Or I'll come to Yo**** rd in KD and hunt u down. ![]() |
Isn't this a kick in the balls that nobody has even said the quiz is too easy and not worth wasting time answering. Geeeeez!!!! |
Ah, Ex, keep ur lid on o. Me no get any fangs and ish to fight with. I don't drink ales but if you can manage a century old scotch, I'll gladly sit and commend u on ur catch. Let's talk about 'The Look'. No pun intended but which specie was the said pixie? I wonder why Gamine cannot stomach the gore of AVP but still stands you, Ex. AVP was not as good as the former one. This one had no point. Why is the Predator doing us a favour ridding the Aliens from our planet when they have more or less no regard for our lives or our planet at large? I just enjoyed the way the Predator 'takes care of evidence' But the film should have done better as a straight to DVD film. And what's with all the canadians? Ex, which films have you seen recently? Have you resumed ur life in KD. We missed each other but I'll get you sooner or later. I still want those stuff u got. |
Tell em Ex. |
Ah, take it easy on the poor girl na. I thought I'd meet more posts here than I'm seeing but no matter, I'm going to give my lil quiz without further ado. You can call it name that author. I compiled it on a long 30mins ride to someplace. 1. His last name rhymes with 'Frighten'. He has an M.D. among other ones. I totally wanna be like him. 2. This guy, though an aristocrat, writes to tackle the often unfair and unfortunate situation of the poor and neglected masses. Another clue: He's british and he's been dead before your pops was born. 3. She's simply the most prolific female writer ever. It is said she wrote a book from beginning to end in a week. She's an oldie too. 4. An explorer and a car collector in real life. His books are a marriage between his true life exploits and fiction. 5. This italian philosopher writes a book no less than six years in between. The only thing stranger than his books is his name. 6. Also writes after a long period has elapsed since his last. Has 4 books with a recurring gentlemanly, charismatic and charming man albeit a cannibal. 7. Second only to Stephen Igwe in terms of weirdness and wears a big moustache. 8. Recently died of pneumonia, I think, and has the same initials with Stephen Spielberg. Girls love him but he never shows his face on his books. Also his last book strangley prophetic was an auto-biography. OK too much info on this guy Eight is a lucky number in China. |
You must be suicidal then for my posts are highly radioactive. So much so that Geiger counters voice out. |
Ah! Congratulations. Thank God you're getting married. Thank God, marriage is not forbidden in your book. I don't think it's obscene to be a virgin but definitely not at 30. Especially for a dude. You might as well go celibate. Just marry and see what you is missing, hehehe! |
Just think of your self as a homosexual and think of her as a recessive partner. And voila you have a 'perfectly normal' relationship with 'real' boobies plus. Nonsense! I don't even think shemales are capable of impregnating. But whatever, I think this thread is bollocks aimed at getting people to say raunchier things and fight and what not! |
Guys are genetically averse to commitment so they unconsciously misplace the number or wash it with their laundry or delete them Pick one! |
Wowie! I'm appalled that people believe all that rubbish. I had an inkling he was over celebrated when I was in JSS II and cowbell paraded him as an intellectual great. I wondered, 'if he was so great, why didn't I hear of him or read about him through any foreign media?' And as someone put it, 'there's little racism in knowledge, you either merit it or you don't' I even thought the only thing he was credited for was designing the fastest computer at one time and I still was cynical. Now you go ahead to mention all these hilarious claims and I'm beginning to wonder if the guy is a victim of ID theft or he truly believes we are soooooo dumb in Nigeria. But then, if people believe in killer numbers and deadly radiation emitting phones, who would blame him from reeling from an unintellectual sea of mugus. After all the one-eyed man rule in a blind society. Father of the internet, chaii!! I'll see the site before I believe this! |
Lol! The poll is giving me no joy! There are too many extremely optimistic people or there are too many |
Ah, you make me out like one condescending Rumpelstiltskin. I'm marginally above average (I detest false modesty) I concede but that's about it. And that's even due to some stars aligning on the day of my birth or something. Hehe. I'll cook up something too. I hope it won't be too easy or too hard. I think I'll make it along a line of randomness. No particular theme. Will be back tomorrow! |
War monger! I'm a reasonable man. I don't have the 'if I can't have her, no one else will'. Especially when the said damsel is far from distress and more prone to dishing it. My cheeks still hurt. You throw a hard punch/slap (not a smack) Gamine. Y'all have a happy life and have a gazillion kids. After all Beauty and the Beast was a truly great love story, who said naija people are not romantic? Ex, you got in yet? The cafe I'm using has Chima's branding on all their stuff. What did that guy do? Rob a bank? between, I just saw Indy 4. Not as great as the previous ones, but Ford made it more believable that and old man can kick ass than Connery in LXG. Plus I was already biased before seeing the movie. How else can I swallow Prof. Jones surviving an atomic blast in a refrigerator? Blanchett too gave a convincing enough accent. But after Veronica Guerin (is that right?) she probably can do the waffy accent. |
Ah, Sisi. Your guy killed it. I must say he's a hero for watching naija movies up to a 4 digit number. I can't add all mine to more than 2 after all the I saw as a result of having trailing the sun's path as the only other option. Maybe I should have taken that route sef. Anyways, the problems nollywood has is legion. Even his article is hardly a synopsis of the wahala we have up nollywood's arse. One day is gonna be one day though. I just hope I live to see it. |
You guys should get married and get it over with. Me, I'm still doing catch-up. So I'll start looking forward to stuff when I finish looking backward at other stuff. But you guys should come back and complain and all so I know what not to waste my time on. |
Another try ke? Me and Karma said the same thing and I think I'll give up if I don't get 50% right. What's the price for success? There should be a reward for all this brainstorming. |
Sisi, answer this boy o. Me waiting for a PM too o. With a YIM to relate with o. Do quick o. Abeg o. Okay o. Bye bye o. |
Someone's got to look on the bright side or else someone or some people will eventually lose it |
I've given up on this thread. All I care for is my eyelid batter. I didn't know you did IMs. Add ur brother (that'll change soon) too sharp sharp. I hide no info, check the old profile. I hope you know who you are even though it's darn obvious with a certain post you just posted. |
I'm not in the mood for witty talk and I've also decided to see what can be done to salvage the industry. So I'll go straight to the point. The singular most important factor against the industry is money. Nobody spends more than a few million to make a movie. In as much as I think some low budget movies can be quite good but a movie goes beyond just making it. There's a lot of post-production gimmicks that have to be performed. I get really tired when I'm analysing nollywood's problem cuz when I'm concluding I always remember some other thing I failed to mention. So I'll stop here till I have more time on my hands. One things for sure though WE NEED A REVOLUTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sisi, I thought you were good with a big stick or is this not the same kind of revolution? I'd say it is, first we lynch that guy that tells us all to buy our copy NOW! |
Yeah, Chima's place. When I asked his workers of Apple they acted incredulous so I assumed they were unaware apple made anything apart from iphones. My brother asked another how much a 4GB ipod goes for and he replied that they didn't have 4GB but 8GB which was worth 60k. I didn't get it but my brother promptly informed me that he was confusing the ipod for the iphone. They're still the best place for IT stuff I know in KD. I moved on to bad old Multimedia and asked for the Macbook and the foolish guy asked me if I knew what I was talking about and how the lappie was a special one. Since I'm incredibly polite I replied that, yes I knew what it was and does he have it. To that question he said no. Do you know how much it is. No again. My brother could not smother a hiss. I remember those guys selling Gameboys at incredibly ostentatious prices when no one had a choice. I still got a bit of bad belle for them. As for how many ways to kill a man, here are a few Electrocution Drowning Suffocation A bullet to the head or heart Beheading Incineration Disembowelment Hanging Poisoning Those are the ones I can recall at a moment's notice. Some are the same things said with different words |
U'd better accept them as a necessary evil that provides you with a numerical value so you can appreciate the awesomeness of some movies. If one says to another 'on a scale of 1 to 10, rate this movie' At least you can now change that to a scale of 0 to 10. Hurray for movies rated 1 with the lot. |
Sisi, you just keep getting better and better! I wish I came here earlier as I'd have made 8 of out ten in the Grisham trivia. I'm somewhat a fan of Grisham but nowadays I tend to more serious books. Grisham has an overall theme and he sticks to it too much. His books explore morality, racism and the human condition all too much. But as it is I've read more than half his books so I guess I dig the guy. His books that I like best are; The Pelican Brief, The Partner and A Time to Kill and Runaway Jury. His worst in my opinion were The Testament and The Chamber. I'm lukewarm about the rest. But there's a homely feeling you get when you read A Painted House and The Last Juror. Enough on the bloke. Stephen Igwe, my man. The only problem I have with this dude is that he writes when he takes a dump, when he shops, when he sleeps, when he eats, when he practically does everything except writing another book. But he's a man of exceptional talent and he's been around for quite a while. I have a gory and terrible already so I don't get scared by his books. I found Pet Sematary and Misery actually very funny. I ain't related to the devil, so don't ask. As for your trivia Sisi, I'll assume 'The' counts for a word or else I'll be totally stomped. Here goes, 1. The Stand* 2. Rage** 3. The Dark Half** 4. The Dead Zone (the description is more akin to Wastelands but that's hardly three words) 5. I am at wits end. But a wild guess is Bag of Bones. That actually sounds right 6. The Running Man** 7. The Long Walk** 8. Hearts of Atlantis 9. The Talisman 10. The Eyes of the Dragon** **denotes the books I've not read but have heard of and * denotes a wild guess from the description. I'm fairly sure to get a pass mark. Now on to MY favorites. I love espionage books as many men folks. Thus I love Robert Ludlum (RIP, my favorite author), Frederick Forsyth and Tom Clancy. Some beautiful books I've read by relatively unknown authors exist but I'll keep that for sake of discussions later. Since I'm fascinated by the occult and conspiracy theories I love Umberto Eco but so far I've been able to lay my hands on only one of his books. Any help would be worshipped! |
I'm leaving KD by saturday--'hols over dang!'. Went to Micromanna with the intention of checking out an apple for my younger brother but he got carried away by a cheap Compaq with fair enough specs. For 88k I think I'll leave him alone! |
Plenty talk! Nollywood movies are 97% terrible. 2% are okay and only 1% are truly worth it. I was watching a local programme where this woman rates naija movies and she had a guest who made a movie named Rivals. The name sounds stupid like many a nigerian movie but once a small clip was played from the film and the guest (the producer and actress) gave a more detailed synopsis, I was impressed not only because it got an award at a film festival somewhere (I think Cannes and I think it won best foreign film or best african film) but because the idea was brilliant and the film-making was poetic. No use of big and flashy cars to denote wealth (it has always amazed me where they get people's homes to rent for their bollocks). The dialogue wasn't too bad. There, of course, were a fair share of flaws but I find flaws in almost every movie, including my personal favorites. So this is the bottom line. I do not mince words. The naija movies featured in IMDB are supposedly our 'best' if they aren't they're our top 5%. They do not compare to the worst movies, not only from the U. S. but from all over the globe. The chic trying to defend the industry writes well enough (no pun intended, I meant it like I said it) so I can assume you're very intelligent (no pun intended now either) so stop the feud with Sisi and admit naija movies are crap and we need to do something about it. My outlook has changed. If I have my way I'll do something about it with the help of a few of my friends. First when I finish my book I'll see about an adaptation. Seun, don't come here o. My book ain't worth 25 large. Drop your hatchet and call a spade a spade. |
If you weren't the one telling me this I would believe it. IMDB though a database should not let that word 'database' mislead them into putting garbage in their site. I've been complaining that why should C-movies and 'straight to DVD' movies be included and I'm afflicted with thi horrible news. Since the 'M' in IMDB means movies, how can you explain putting trash in IMDB? Methinks one dude (I refrain from choosing a more suitable name for fear of the tribal people flocking in here) went and bribed some other dude to get the slots. Na really by force? As for the quintessential protagonists (or antagonists, depending on which side of the fence you are) I love the way you make them seem puny by laughing them off. I'm sure to get some half educated bloke challenging my 'convoluted mind' That's why I'm Vescucci and not John Doe, d'uh! |
While y'all are talking about infinity and continuum and what not. I wanna ask if ou guys get the deja vu feeling that you had a deja vu feeling about something. Like ou think, he, this has happened once before when I thought this had happened. Onl it reall couldn't have happened for how could you have forgotten tearing up your university degree. You can only do that once. Well, you know what they say, it's a mad world with mad people in it. |
Sisikill. You had the good sense to include that footnote in the 'story'. I swear to God I was going to ask one of two things. How old you were or if the story was an excerpt from one of your stories. The way I see it everybody has a story, some are more dramatic/tragic/sick/adventurous/etc than others. But there are some inviolate facts. I don't believe that crap that there's only one person for another. I just believe there's a certain kind, a certain breed. You know, like peacocks go after other peacocks and seals go after other seals. A panda falling for a croc is just plain obscene. We humans are a singular biological specie but emotionally, spiritually, mentally and all the -ally you can imagine we are a vast array of separate species. When you delude yourself you're in love with someone and you're actually in love with her booty or his doe. Won't be long before the shit hits the fan. Y'all just hang on, I'll soon land. In my opinion, men are (most of us) naturally averse to commitment. polygamous is not the word but a guy until he falls in love (real ass kicking love) doesn't know the difference between Julia, Julianna, Julie or Jules. I like the way Julie smiles. I like the way Julianna walks etc. And that attracts them. But it is an exercise in futility to find someone who has all the things you want. So there's nothing like love based solely on character and looks. Hence the term; you gotta make it work. Men are infinitely more greedy in this regard as a typical dude doesn't want to be bottled up in one place for too long. Doesn't want to be bottled up with one person for too long either. Chics mainly want security; sweep me away to la la land in your arms and all that crap. Example! I have a friend who was at the threshold of marring one dude and cancelled the relationship. I asked why and she told me she found out she was the only one keeping in touch and the guy didn't make any attempt to reach her after she ignored him for three weeks! So without exchanging words they broke up. I sensed she wasn't heartbroken or anything of the sort and she confessed she was actually reall in love with someone else and this person--though she is sure to feel the same way--is scared to bare his feelings to her. Frankly I was disgusted. I didn't tell her this though. I thought how the hell can you run off with someone while being in love with someone else where there's no external pressure like old age, parents, tribe or whatever. Does anybody smell an overwhelming need for security? I couldn't be in love with someone and settle for anything but. Except if she doesn't feel the same way (which is very unlikely because I'D fall for someone who can emote like I) or she's like bethrothed to the Devil. I'm not even sure if that could deter me. If you have been able to put up with me this far I'll close my case as regards the Sisikill story. I don't think they were really in love. They both just took a chance. Mind you the probably had a great affection for each other (more than I can say for most people getting hitched nowadas) but there was the extra secret ingredient missing. I have many more unconventional dispositions to matters of the heart but I'D need guided interrogations as I can be ver incoherent and hardl articulate sometimes. So I'D like to entertain cliche questions like 'do you believe in love at first sight', 'can you be involved in an orgy' etc. Whatever strikes y'all. |
Everybody is one a minor break. I'm no exception. Been watching some movies lately since I'm home in KD. When I leave I'll complain or give thumbs ups and all the usual back and forth ish will go down till we find other fishes to fry. |
