Sincerely I would disagree with you a bit on some points based on my experience with people and families. Women in African cultures believe that the man must take care of the house single handedly. Quite a number of women actually help in home care while others do it but don't see it as their responsibility in assisting the man.
I respect women a lot and the need to take care of their own family where they emerged from. This need is real cos I see what my sisters do within my family as married women and I respect them and their husbands for such sacrifices.
Using this experience for my wife, I encourage her to take care of her family as much as possible and I support on this as well.
However, a number of women are unable to set priorities clearly when resources are scarce. I've seen women hold money, pump money to their extended family while the husband struggles to keep the immediate family afloat. Imagine when resources are low, borrowing money as a man to just get the basics but your wife is fine but attending luxury in her family while her immediate family suffers. I think this is misplacement of priority.
These are not stereotypes but I've heard a lot of women give reasons for abandoning their husbands "to perform his responsibility" alone. Those who finance side chicks come mind readily.
Concluding, every family is unique in their financing style and such, in my opinion, should place priority on our immediate rather than extended families. While we are at this, women should be encouraged to take their extended families but not at the detriment of their immediate nuclear families

If you read up you will notice I've withdrawn some of the points I Stated and also encourage our women to help their men.

I tell my wife everything about my financial status and business decisions, no secret. We started everything together from the scratch and I'm still carrying her along 100%. In fact, she just called me to ask about the cooperative loan I told her (before we departed this morning) that I was going to fast track. What's the big deal unless one is a waster of money which you don't want your wife to know about and start asking questions?

Haven't you ever experience where people will be calling themselves to come and meet you for help. You just help this one.. the next thing you see more and more people coming again for help... Some will come and borrow like 50k upward... I'm so sorry that's your predicament. Now I understand. You can't continue giving money to people who only see you as atm or quick way to money. Truth be told, it is not easy for we ladies to detach from family menbers. It took me time before my husband could train me to learn few things. It took close tk a year for me to learn not to, it was painful though, very painful to leave family pressures. But I remember my husband saying I should give him 4 months to open my eyes. These are ways my husband trained me before I could be balance.

1. He controlled 90% of the money (mine and his)
2. He taught me our family comes first before my or his family
3. He also opened my eyes to the fact that much of what my family called family challenges don't exist or exaggerated.
4. He taught me that he didn't marry me to be the Financial savior of my family (its true though but I don't like hearing it)
4. He taught me how to manage money even though he is bad at it. Etc

Today I manage 80% of our income. Sometimes he may want to give my mum 40k I will refuse because giving her that amount will make her be intitled for more later. I'd rather we give her when she is not asking and give her what I decide than what is saying. For my mother inlaw she will never ask for money yes never, though my husband is not aware I place her salary. Due to how I behave towards my mum in money matters my husband sometimes will give her money without telling me. My reason for doing that towards my mum is because my brothers wants to be lazy, only taking from my husband and from what I gave my mun to live big. My husband is younger than my brothers so you can imagine.


Brother sit your wife down as open her eyes as mine was opened by my husband. This inlaw thing is not a one way traffic, either the man gives or the inlaws gives. No law starts that it must be the man.


In conclusion
Talk to madam if you keep giving out what about building other businesses and houses.

I think you don't trust your wife with money of her own which means you are insecure, I don't know if there's a past with your wife that contributed to this or just fear of " she won't be obedient any more if she pays her own bills" that some men has.

I never supported the selling of the car, what I'm interested in telling the op is to find out the reason why the wife wants to know everything, maybe because there is communication bridge between them. Besides there's nothing wrong with in laws helping each other in time of need.
