Microsoft Sets Date for Windows 10


Among the most prominent new features of Windows 10 is Cortana, the Microsoft virtual assistant.


Microsoft has finally said when Windows 10, one of its biggest products in years, will be available: July 29.


The release of new operating systems are big milestones for Microsoft since they have the potential to affect so many people, but it’s especially important that the release of Windows 10 goes well. Roughly 1.5 billion people use Windows today, many of whom will be able to upgrade to the new software free. Many others, including those with aging PCs that need to be replaced, will buy new machines with Windows 10 on them.
Both groups of Windows users are important to Microsoft, but getting people to start buying new PCs again is crucial. PC sales have been slow for several years now, hurt by the rising popularity of smartphones and tablets and the poorly received Windows 8, the last major installment of Microsoft’s operating system. Shipments in the global PC market, including tablets but not smartphones, fell 7 percent during the first quarter from the same period the year before, estimates Canalys, a market research firm.
Windows 10 could be the spark that warms up PC shipments. It’s a combination of new and old technology. Among the most prominent new features is Cortana, the Microsoft virtual assistant that has become a centerpiece of the company’s Windows Phones.


As on smartphones, Cortana on Windows 10 PCs is intended to make it easier to perform certain tasks, like scheduling meetings, using voice commands. But it will also act proactively on a user’s behalf to make life easier — for example, alerting the user when road traffic might delay arrival at a meeting. Microsoft recently announcedCortana apps for iPhone and Android smartphones.
But the return of a familiar Windows feature — the start menu — could end up being an equally important change in Windows 10. Microsoft made the start menu, which people have used for years to open applications and files in the operating system, much harder to find in Windows 8, replacing it with a mosaic of tiles that were designed to work better on touch-screen devices. The radical change in the Windows interface was annoying to many users, some of whom wound up sticking with older versions of the software.

5 billionaires giving their fortunes away


Five years ago, Warren Buffett teamed up with Bill and Melinda Gates in a campaign to get billionaires to give away the bulk of their wealth.


They launched the Giving Pledge in 2010 in an effort to convince America's wealthiest individuals to commit to donating at least half of their fortunes to charities and philanthropic causes either during their lifetimes or in their wills.


Today, more than 130 couples and individuals from 14 countries have signed on.
The pledge isn't a legally binding contract, but more of a moral commitment. The campaign's intention is to "inspire conversations, discussions, and action, not just about how much [to give] but also for what purposes and to what end," the website says.


Most of America's wealthiest people have signed on, including Oracle CEO Larry Ellison (estimated net worth: $54.3 billion), Michael Bloomberg ($35.5 billion), Mark Zuckerberg ($35.3 billion), famed investor Carl Icahn ($22.2 billion), Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen ($17.5 billion), and Telsa founder Elon Musk ($13.3 billion).


Their reasons range from funny to heartwarming to bizarre. Here are five that stood out:


1. Sara Blakely


"Since I was a little girl I have always wanted to help women. In my wildest dreams I never thought I would have started with their butts."
The Spanx CEO made her $1 billion fortune on selling body-shaping underwear for women. In her pledge letter, Blakely said she wants most of her fortune to help give women around the world access to education and the resources to be successful.


2. George B. Kaiser


"I suppose I arrived at my charitable commitment largely through guilt. I recognized early on that my good fortune was not due to superior personal character or initiative so much as it was to dumb luck."
Kaiser made his $9.2 billion fortune in the oil, gas and banking industries and is currently the chairman of BOK Financial. He says he wants to help address the root causes of poverty and "reverse the generational cycle of poverty."


3. Vladimir Potanin


"I also see it as a way to protect my children from the burden of extreme wealth, which may deprive them of any motivation to achieve anything in life on their own."
Potanin is a Russian entrepreneur and oligarch who is ranked by Forbes as the richest man in Russia and the 60th-richest person in the world. He was once an employee of the USSR's foreign economic relations ministry and amassed a $14.5 billion fortune by buying up metal companies in as they were privatized.
Potanin wrote that he wants his wealth to "support programs in the area of education, culture and philanthropy development," particularly in Russia.


4. Harold Hamm and Sue Ann Arnall


After settling one of the most expensive divorces in U.S. history, Hamm and Arnall made separate commitments to contribute at least half of their fortunes to charity.


While many pledgers said they wanted to give their fortunes away so that their children would understand the value of hard work, Arnall's children actually inspired her to sign the pledge. "[B]oth of my daughters have become even more adamant that I pursue this dream," wrote Arnall, who wants to support children with autism and those in foster care.


In a separate letter, Hamm said he wants to donate the majority of his $11.5 billion fortune to diabetes research.


5. Manoj Bhargava


"My choice was to ruin my son's life by giving him money or giving 90%+ to charity. Not much of a choice."


Bhargava is the CEO of 5-Hour Energy. The former monk and college dropout made his fortune after developing energy shots in the early 2000's. His company has taken a hit in recent years since the FDA suggested in 2012 that the shots may have contributed to 13 deaths. But Bhargava has pledged to give at least half of his money to help causes in India, including water distribution to rural areas and reducing fossil fuel emissions.

Singer cum writer, Etcetera in his latest article kicks against Nigerian churches. According to him, many of the Churches in the country today are living a lie.
To back up his claim, he highlighted eight reasons why the church is leading Christians astray.

1.There is almost no evidence whatsoever that the early church had their “services” on a Sunday. They gathered together ‘from house to house’ virtually every day! People did not dress up and “go to church.” There were no denominations or separate groups with different ‘labels.’ They lived their lives together – And the apostles in Jerusalem preached everyday at a huge open-air gathering, not “hidden away” inside four walls. Church buildings do not exist in the Bible. They were invented around 200-300 AD, when the church was in serious decline. Church buildings are anti-New Testament, and they bring with them a host of problems and traditions. It was when the church fell into the hands of Rome that this concept of the “cathedral” took over. And today, we are still spending millions building these beautiful monuments while the worshippers are starving.


2.The words “prosper” or ‘prosperity’ were NEVER used by Jesus at all – and only mentioned a few times in the entire New Testament. Yet our greedy pastors have built kingdoms upon them. The words – “sell what you have and give to the poor” and “deceitfulness of riches” and “you cannot serve God and mammon” and “woe to you that are rich” were DEFINITELY used by Jesus and the apostles, but you don’t hear them preached by your pastors, do you?


3. Tithing is not a New Testament practice at all. And it is being shamefully abused by today’s preachers. In the Old Testament, tithing was only applicable to Jews and to the land of Israel and that was at a time when a great number of them lived in Babylon, Ammon, Moab, Egypt and Syria. As a result of that, the land they occupied became tithe-able lands. Tithes were not acceptable from Gentiles’ lands. So my brothers and sisters, you need to ask your pastor why he is collecting tithes here in Nigeria. Also, the only people authorised to receive tithes were the Levites – (Hebrews 7:5). If your pastor is collecting tithe from you, ask him if he’s from the tribe of Levi. Even Jesus who was a Jew couldn’t collect tithes because he wasn’t from the tribe of Levi but from that of Judah. And if your pastor insists that being a worker in the lord’s vineyard qualifies him as a Levite, please remind him that Levites had no land and did not own properties.


4. The Jesus of today’s church is a “Father Christmas,” a Jesus who exists mainly for our own “happiness;” a Father Christmas who wants to rain down continual blessings upon us; a Jesus of grace and mercy without judgement, righteousness or truth. Our gross misrepresentation of who Jesus really is, is one of the most serious offences of today’s church. We worship a “plastic” Jesus – one that we have painted in our own image. What an offence to God.


5.What we have today are churches that are so loose that they excuse any sin or misconduct, including homosexuality and adultery. Aren’t we supposed to accept only the truth of God’s word? But instead, we have opted for a modern church that is socially based, smooth and sophisticated, and presented like a Nollywood movie with men and women of ogboni fraternity dressed in their occultic regalia occupying special seats during services. Something is wrong!


6.What happened to the strong calls for repentance that brought thousands down to the altar to repent and ask Jesus Christ to save their souls? This is the litmus test for Christianity; it is the essence of the Cross; it is the great commission that Jesus commanded us with. If your church is not winning souls, then it is like a barren woman, and it is a shame. Something is wrong!


7. What happened to the outpouring of the Holy Ghost? Do we even know what it means anymore to feel the presence of the Spirit of God descend on a service and fill up the room with holiness? Or we just love that party atmosphere and excitement when the choir plays a boogie-down song? Or we love to scream “ride on pastor” in the excitement we get when some charismatic preacher works the crowd? It’s been so long we’ve felt the presence of the Holy Spirit that we don’t know what it is anymore. Something is definitely wrong!


8.Lots of pastors are aware that there is something very wrong with the church today. They know there is little ‘fear of the Lord.’ They know there is no deep repentance or deep moving of the Holy Spirit

Some years back in my ghetto, around 8pm, we are cooking melon soup which include ponmo and oku-eko fish. Other member of the family have gat their own share of the soup but i insist that i will wait for the soup to get thick before i will take my own share without knowing that i will not eat that night. We are cooking the soup in the backyard, one of my neighbour named yinka throw 3-rounds banger from the own house to my backyard in order to scared me and it was at that moment that i open the soup cover to stir it but the banger just pour straight inside the soup and i ain't know. In the next few seconds i just heard the loud bang 'GBOA' inside the soup. The cover flow away like parachute, the second GBOA, the fish and ponmo summersalut and scattered every where, the last GBOA was the last straw, the next thing i will see in the air is the pot of my dear soup rolling...........when my mother came back from the shop and we told her what happen, she instruct us to go and report yinka to his father. The 20,000 girls below the age of 18 who give birth every day in developing countries make them and the countries they live in to face economic disadvantages, a UN report said on Wednesday.
The report said that it made them face much higher health risks than older mothers. Every year, 7.3 million children become mothers in developing countries, the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), said in its annual report that was launched in several cities, including Geneva. Some 70,000 mothers between 15 and 19 die from complications after birth each year.
Having children at a young age prevents girls from entering the work force. If girls waited until the age of 20 before having babies, the gross annual income would be boosted by more than 7.7 billion dollars in India and 3.5 billion dollars in Brazil, the report found.
At the same time UNFPA chief Babatunde Osotimehin stressed that poverty was an important cause of childhood pregnancies, along with discrimination against women. "Too often, society blames only the girl for getting pregnant,'' he said.
"The reality is that adolescent pregnancy is most often not the result of a deliberate choice, but rather the absence of choices, and of circumstances beyond a girl's control."
The report said Niger had the world's highest childhood pregnancy rate, with 51 per cent of women in their 20s reporting that they gave birth before turning 18. In Asia, Bangladesh has the highest rate at 40 per cent.
In other regions, Nicaragua holds the record in Latin America at 28 per cent and Yemen in the Middle East at 25 per cent. The U.S. accounts for half of the annual 680,000 teenage pregnancies in industrialised countries, the UNFPA said.
