Luke Shaw, Manchester United defender says when they return to training on Wednesday, he will take “a big step forward.”

While interaction between players is not yet allowed, the Unified squad will reconvene for a first session, as the limitations on coronavirus for elite sport have been eased.

Small group meetings will begin, but participants will stick to the laws of social space, arriving at home in training gear and showering rather than in communal changing rooms.

The Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi has denied having knowledge of the alleged sack of the Director-General (DG) of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dakuku Peterside.

An earlier report though not confirmed had claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari approved the appointment of Bashir Jamoh as the new DG of the agency.

Jamoh is the executive director of administration and finance in NIMASA.

Peterside’s tenure expires on the 10th of March, 2020

Our correspondent monitored a morning show on television on Thursday where the Minister of Transportation reacted to the news of the sack.

On the alleged sack of Peterside and his replacement by Jamoh, Amaechi said: “I am not aware. As of yesterday when I spoke to the DG of NIMASA, he was in the office and they had a board meeting and he was present at the meeting. I am not aware that he has been removed. I spoke to him at about 3 pm to 4 pm. I should know if he has been sacked. If I am the minister of transportation, I should know.

“Maybe we need to call him (Peterside) this morning to know whether he is in the office but the government does not take an arbitrary decision. If he were to be sacked, the minister of transportation would be told to formally intimate the DG of his sack and I am not aware that the president has directed me to intimate anybody of his sack.

“His tenure expires on the 10th of this month. When it expires, you can then approach the president to either reappoint him or replace him. The president has the appointing authority. All the minister has by law is the recommendation authority.”

On the speculation that his alleged sack might be due to the failure of the agency to audit its account for six years, the minister said: “I am not aware that that could be the reason. He has been DG for only four years because he came into office in 2016 and they cannot be punishing him for the offence committed by previous DGs.

“I don’t think that those speculations are right. I just think they are mere speculations and we should wait until Tuesday next week when his tenure will officially expire. The president has the right to appoint whoever he wants to appoint and if he wants to extend his tenure, he will extend his tenure.”

On the alleged refusal of Peterside to attend National Assembly summons, he said: “I attend National assembly summons because they have the authority to summon a minister or the head of parastatals. I would be surprised if Peterside does not honour summons because he was once a member of the House of Representatives.”

Egypt have confirmed its first case of the coronavirus in a ‘foreigner’ and a first African country to report a confirmed case.

This is coming few weeks after Ivory Coast and Botswana reported its supposed case of the virus, but with this new development, Egypt is the first African country to report.

All thanks to the programme implemented by the government for travellers arriving from affected countries, the virus was quickly detected, Aljazeera reports.

On Friday, the Health Ministry spokesman Khaled Mugahed disclosed that the affected person has been hospitalised and is currently in isolation, although further details of nationality or point of entry was not disclosed.

Since the outbreak of the virus in China it has reportedly killed almost 1,400 people with nearly 65,000 infected in various countries around the world.

The Kano corps members who got married in their Khaki uniform Muhammad Musa and Hauwa Bagudu, recently made headlines after getting married in the kits.

The young couple married last Friday at the Juma’at Mosque, Nigerian Air Force Base in the state after dating for just 10 months.

And speaking with Ted, they revealed why they rushed into marriage and their love story.

You’re from Nasarawa State, what tribe are you?

Muhammad: I am Afo from Nasarawa Local Government Area, Nasarawa. I studied History at Nasarawa State University, where I earned BA degree. My elder brother earlier married from the Yoruba community. I am the second person within our family to marry outside my tribe.

How old are you?

Muhammad: I’m 28 years old. I did not plan to get married during my service year. It was God’s plan for us to get married.

You are from Niger State, what tribe are you?

Hauwa: I am Nupe; a proud one for that matter.

How did you meet Hauwa?

Muhammad: We met at NYSC kitchen when we were in camp. We just clicked when we first met; it was love at first sight! We were both struggling to be served lunch. But the moment I saw her, I fell in love with her. However, I did not realise that it would culminate into marriage so soon. It’s God’s work.

What really attracted you to her?

Muhammad: Her simplicity and beauty were the things that attracted me to her. Also, when we started the relationship, I discovered how kind and caring she is, and those are the attributes I have always wanted in any woman that will be my life partner.

What qualities of his attracted you to Muhammad?

Hauwa: He is religious, intelligent, simple, generous, wonderful and caring. He is simply the best (man) I have ever come across. I like him because he is amiable, caring and friendly. These attributes of his attracted me to him.

How did Muhammad Musa show interest in you?

Hauwa: It was an amazing moment. When we first met, we clicked on the spot. It was love at first sight. I did not accept (to date him) that same week; it was two weeks later that I accepted.

So you initially play hard to get?

Hauwa: Yes, of course. I did because as a woman, it is our pride to prove difficult before eventually succumbing (to propositions).

What made you to accept his proposal?

Hauwa: He is just too natural and real, that was why I accepted his proposal.

You met in camp and already getting married, why did you not wait till after service year?

Muhammad: Time, they say, is of essence, and marriage is an institution ordained by God, who is the owner of our lives. I rely on this to hasten the marriage, instead of waiting for the end of our service year. I felt if I waited much longer than now, I might change my mind and start a fresh relationship with someone else who may not be right for me. So, I hastened the marriage because I felt it was an opportunity I could not afford to miss.

How long was your courtship?

Muhammad: Our courtship lasted for 10 months.

Some people believe courtship should last longer than that, how would you react to that?

Muhammad: It’s not how long the courtship lasts that matters but how well it is. What is more important is to understand each other’s behaviour, rather than a long-term courtship to understand each other.

Why are you so sure she is the right one for you?

Muhammad: During our three-week orientation, I discovered she has good character, which she demonstrated during our courtship. I also investigated and discovered that she inherited her good character from her family; she has a good family background.

What are the other things you love about her?

Muhammad: I do not only love her, my passion for her developed further when I discovered she was religious, intelligent, simple, kind, hospitable, loving and caring. I was convinced that when we start having children, she will inculcate such attributes in our children.

When you told your parents that you planned to get married to a lady you met in camp, what were their reactions?

Muhammad: My parents’ reactions were not only positive; they were also supportive of the idea. They both agreed that as long as we love each other and agree to live together in peace and tolerate each other for the rest of our lives, they were in support.

How did you tell your parents you found the man you would marry in camp and would want to get married now?

Hauwa: It was an uphill task to speak out to my parents but I later summoned courage to inform them. I told them point blank that my feelings towards him were becoming too natural and real.

And how did they react?

Hauwa: My mum was so happy about it but my dad objected to it at first for reasons best known to him. Thank God, he later accepted so as not to hurt my feelings because he believes that my happiness should come first.

How do you plan to handle the financial responsibilities that come with marriage?

Muhammad: I’m an artisan, with specialty in tiling floors.

What are your plans to handle your financial responsibilities?

Hauwa: I am serving my nation for now as a youth corps member. At the end of my service year, I will grab any opportunity that comes my way, so as to reduce the burden on the shoulders of my husband.

Some people believe it is better for a couple to start working before getting married but both of you are still corps members.

Muhammad: We will continue to do our best and allow Almighty God to provide our daily bread and needs.

What made you trust him?

Hauwa: If you meet your Mr Right, you don’t need to be told. Aside from that, his simplicity and calmness made me to truly love him. He is simply the best for me.

Some people believe that courtship should be longer, how would you react to that?

Hauwa: It’s not how far but how well. All you need in courtship is not about the duration but how well you understand each other. We were friends for few days and when we became lovers, it became so overwhelming and amazing. Everything became so interesting as my world reached its destination.

Did you receive any support for the wedding?

Muhammad: Yes, especially from my family and friends. They rallied round to ensure the success of the wedding. The NYSC band graced the unique occasion, during which they played concordant tunes to add colour to the historic wedding. NYSC members and our parents also attended the occasion to demonstrate their support for the marriage.

Did NYSC sponsor the wedding?

Muhammad: NYSC did. The Kano State NYSC Coordinator, Ladan Baba, also attended the wedding, alongside our parents and family friends. They all contributed to the success of the wedding.

You said you’re the second person in your family to marry from another tribe, did you nurse any fear before the marriage?

Muhammad: I never did because we met while we were in camp and both realised on the spot that we were meant for each other. Based on this reality, I had no fear whatsoever.

Were you initially apprehensive about marrying someone from another tribe and state?

Hauwa: Not at all, I always stand for the unity of our country, Nigeria, before my friends.

Do you think your action will inspire a lot of people and probably encourage unity in the country?

Muhammad: My action will inspire more Nigerians to marry outside their states and tribes. Also, I am not the first from my family to marry from another tribe, so I have no fear at all.

I also believe that it will not only foster unity among us, it will encourage Nigerians to love and encourage one another.

Where do you plan to settle down?

Hauwa: Suleja in Niger State.

A 27-year-old lecturer assistant at Nelson Mandela University (NMU) has been discharged and acquitted after he was found guiltless over a r*pe case he didn’t commit.

Osiphesona Ngcanga,a Master’s degree student spent two years in St Alban’s Prison in Port Elizabeth after previously found guilty of r*ping a “drunk and unconscious” commerce student at a birthday party on February 1, 2017 in Kabega Park by a Port Elizabeth magistrate, Nolitha Bara.

Nevertheless, on January 14, Makhanda High Court judges Sunil Rugunanan and Buyiswa Majiki reversed the judgment after one of six witnesses testified that he saw Ngcanga and the woman dancing together, smiling, flirting, kissing and talking to each other outside the party at which 17 people (many of them students) attended.

While one of the party-goers called back into the house, it was observed that the lady turned the call down and went back to Ngcanga on her own self.

Though it was alleged that the lady was r*ped while sleeping in a car outside the party venue, Judges Sunil Rugunanan and Buyiswa Majiki found the testimony of one of the key witnesses who was also drunk at the time of the incident to be “unreliable and contradictory” alongside that of other state witnesses.

Rugunanan said:

“The magistrate’s overall approach to her evaluation of the evidence, and particularly the credibility findings in favour of the state witnesses, clearly overlooked the material shortcomings and discrepancies in their evidence and … fell short of the onus.

“No evidence was produced to prove that four glasses of wine and the mix of vodka and Coke consumed by the complainant caused her judgment or consciousness to be adversely affected.

“Given that it was the complainant’s own evidence that this quantity of alcohol was not excessive, I think the mere consumption falls far short of proof beyond reasonable doubt that there was a diminution or impairment of her faculties in a sense that her sensibilities were either dulled or that she had an exuberant or over-optimistic frame of mind which caused her to take risks.”

Upon being released, Ngcanga said he will be registering at NMU to finish his master’s degree. He told DispatchLive;

“I am also talking to my lawyers to see if the state can compensate me for the two years I spent in prison for a crime I did not commit.”

A suicide bomber was on Sunday arrested by the Kaduna state police command at the Sabon Tasha branch of the Living Faith Church aka Winners chapel.

Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Yakubu Sabo, who confirmed this to LIB, said he would be releasing an official press statement on the case soon.

Reports says the suspected suicide bomber was caught on the church’s CCTV camera entering the church auditorium with a bag.

On seeing his movement, a security officers who became suspicious, accosted him after he had sat down, searched his bag, found the explosive and alerted the police for his arrest.

Former Nigerian vice President and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate in 2019, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has appealed United States government to reconsider Nigerians on the recent travel band.

The US president, Donald Trump had imposed a visa ban on Nigeria and five other countries in their new list on Friday effective from February 22.

Reacting, Atiku on his Twitter page expressed sadness over the ban.

He, however, urged Trump to consider adopting measures that individually target those in government who have failed in their duties, rather than target the entire Nigerian population.

He wrote, “While I understand the reasons given by the Trump administration (the failure of the @MBuhari led administration to share information and to address issues of terrorism), the ban does not take into account the pro-American sentiments of the Nigerian public and the solidarity previous Nigerian administrations have had with the United States.

“I urge the government of President @realDonaldTrump to consider the history of US-Nigerian relationships.Nigeria was one of the few African nations that joined the US-led coalition during Operation Desert Storm between 1990-1991 when the United States championed the liberation of Kuwait.

“The Trump administration may also consider the pivotal role Nigeria, in partnership with the US, played in bringing peace to Liberia, an American sphere of influence, that now enjoys democracy because Nigerian blood and money paved the way for peace in that nation.

Chelsea have confirmed that 19-year-old defender, Tariq Lamptey has left the club to join Brighton and Hove Albion on a permanent transfer.

Lamptey only played just three times for the Blues this season.

Chelsea disclosed this in a statement on their official website on Friday.

Nigeria’s Information and Culture Minister, Lai Mohammed, has confirmed that Nigerians living in the Chinese city of Wuhan, where coronavirus was first discovered, expressed their reluctance to return home.

Lai Mohammed at a press conference on Friday January 31, noted that the federal government cannot stop Nigerians from travelling to China, stating that they are already in contact with 16 Nigerians living in Wuhan.

“We know it is a bit difficult to ban people from travelling.

“Another thing is that this is not a basis to stigmatise people who come from there.
“Even if we have Nigerians who are there, unless they indicate interest that they want to come home, we can’t force them.

“They have, however, not indicated their interest to come home. They will, however, contact our embassy if they like to come home.

“We need a lot of public enlightenment. We need to let people who travel know that there is the need for absolute transparency and absolute honesty when they are filling out forms.”

The minister said this shortly after Federal government issued a travel advisory to Nigerians, telling them not to travel to China over the flu-like virus ravaging the Asian country.

The United State of America under President Donald Trump just announced on Friday that immigrants from seven more countries will be restricted from it visa entry.

Countries affected in the new list includes; Nigeria, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Eritrea, Sudan and Tanzania.

The new restriction comes three years after Donald Trump travel ban was first announced, which barred people from several Muslim-majority nations from entering the U.S.

What this means is that it will not place travel ban for those coming to the U.S, but Nigerians and the other countries will be restricted from permanent immigration visas, which include some family and employer-sponsored visas, as well as the diversity visa lottery.

It also does not affect visas given to people travelling to the U.S. for temporary stay such as tourists, businessmen and women, medical treatment.

Sudanese nationals and Tanzanians will only be excluded from the diversity visa lottery and the restrictions will be effective by February 22.

The administration says the ban is necessary to protect the U.S against potential acts of terrorism.

According to her, she left the union after she got what she wanted.

The actress was engaged by a fellow social media user where they exchanged trolls.

Jegede had shared a behind-the-scene photo, probably from a movie set and the troll who saw how intimate the actress was with her male colleague told her that if she’d done that to her ex-husband, her marriage wouldn’t have crashed down.

And in a prompt respond, Yvonne said she was the one that actually left Mr. Abounce after she’d successfully gotten what she wanted.

A new tenancy rule has emerged following the recent trend of the marlians, a landlord in Rivers State has just issued that he doesn’t want to have any tenant who belongs to the fan club nor welcome such as a visitor to his compound.

In one of the lodges around University of Port Harcourt, the landlord while laying down the rules in his house, stated in clear terms that he doesn’t accommodate marlians.

A twitter user shared the snapshot of the ‘house rules’ where he wrote;

“My God i have seen it all.
In this Lodge Marlians are not allowed and the Landlord has the right to come and inspect your room at anytime to be sure you are keeping it clean and tidy.”
