My grandma told me in the 50s and 60s Yorubas had confidence and trust in Calabar people than they did Ibos. This is not ethnic bashing, this is the truth.

Back then in the South Yoruba knew of only themselves, the Ishekiris, Binis and Isobos. They knew of Ijo as water people. We did not know any other group and classified everyone else as either omo Ibo or Kalaba.

We also knew back then that omo Ibo are the menial workers and low wage labourers in society. So jobs like porters (pushing wheel barrow, carrying load on head and ferrying goods) and anything requiring physical work in the field omo Ibo is one to do it. Their women work as maids and cleaners in the house. Kalaba women were hired as cooks and nannies because they were very good with caring and nursing.

From what Im told this was the practice with colonials. When omo Ibo arrived in Lagos he would be recruited into one of these positions reserved for their ethnic group.

Affluent Yorubas also used omoIbo as laborer in his house and yards. This was the practice in VI, Ikoyi, Apapa, Yaba.

As demand for laborer increased more Ibos poured in from East. Yorubas began noticing a trend. The Ibo gardners and yard laborer were offering their sisters for hire as cook and nannies for very low price and cutting the Kalaba girls out of market. Nobody knew it was an act.

My grandma said omo Ibo will plant a maid in your house for rwconnaisance to know what kind of valuables you have and where they were kept. Then one day when you come home you cant find your gardener, your nanny, your cook...they all have dissapeared. Along with them your valuables are also gone! Reports from Yaba, Apapa, Ikoyi were fitting same pattern. So Yoruba people kicked Ibos out of domestic service because they were not trustworthy with your valuables or children. This is how Yoruba trusted and till today have trust and confidence in a Calabar person.

If an indigene of Cross River or Akwa Ibom were to show up as a Presidential candidate you will see how Yoruba would rally behind him and support.

So Im not surprised at this new event and trend with omo Ibo planting house helps to use for reconn and rob people. Its their way, its their old practice reawakened.

No, CIMA is according to your own schedule, it is CIPM that is two years. CIMA depends on how fast you are. Some people have finished it in one month. But the result for BCS is going to be ready by December, even though the exam will be written in September and by then you'd have lost five points.

I will advise you to write IELTS as soon as possible and aim for band 10, not 9. Then write CIMA instead of BCS. Who knows, you might even get provincial nomination.

In IELTS, writing is always a problem. You'll see someone with LSR 9,9,9 but 6.5 in writing. I pity her sha.

Please I need a head start as I just got a grip to start this process. Please can someone respond to these questions:

1. Do I need to do WES and IELTS before starting any of the process?

2. Do I need to pay WES for each of my credential to be evaluated. For instance, I have HND Computer Science, Bsc from a University in UK , PMP and Microsoft Certifications. I am a Software Developer.

3. I am over 40 but if I want to boost my score via pronvincial nomination, what do I have to do? Do I apply to each of the provinces as the first step or after 1 and 2 stated above, I can now commence.

1. Yes, you need to. I'll suggest you start with the WES evaluation first and while that is ongoing, prepare for IELTS.

2. No, you don't need to pay for each certificate that is going to be evaluated. You'll pay 200CAD for all, i.e, if you're evaluating one certificate it's 200CAD, if it's three certificates it is still 200CAD.

3. Sorry, I don't know anything about provincial nomination.

@EmmaGeneral Please it is a scam. Stop further contact with them, lest they convince you otherwise. But Nigerians na wa for us oo. Even when they have outed as a scam by the website that posted the job vacancy, someone is still dropping his phone number for another person to call him, all because that person supposedly got a job through one of such companies. He'll then cry foul when he has been scammed.

@uchefefe. Hi, I kind of understand what you going through. Even though I have lived in Nigeria all my life, I am not fluent in Igbo. Unlike your case I had a willing father but I was an unwilling student. I only just realised the importance of knowing how to speak my language. Luckily for me, my grandma lives with me and this has helped my Igbo a lot. I suggest you get yourself some Igbo speaking friends and tell them to communicate with you in Igbo. It may seem difficult but you'll be surprised that there are many around you. I know some people from my village that were born and bred in the US but speak fluent Igbo and they definitely won't be the only ones.
One thing I've noticed with Igbo folk is that once they realise that you can't speak Igbo, they won't speak speak the language to you. You have to tell them that you want them to speak the language to you and even then sometimes they will still revert to English. I wish you good luck in learning the language.
