wirinet: The adage *"be careful what you wish for, you just might get it " is very applicable here. Igbos screaming we want separation have not even considered the implications of their wish. They are blinded by hatred, greed, quest for power and egocentricity to even define define what they understand by separation. I have often asked what is the type, extent and boundaries of the separation Igbos are asking for? 2013 is not 1967 eastern Nigeria was united under one government. Today the states, governments, tribes and clans are more divided than ever and this runs through all regions of Nigeria. Are you people advocating we go back to pre-colonial times where every clan was autonomous? because the British first almagamated clans, tribes and regions before almagamating Nigeria.
People using former Soviet republic as a poster example of separation are economical with with truth. First the former Soviet republics did not separate in the true sense of the word, they gained independence. The way Nigeria gained independence in 1960. They were formerly under Russian colonization and Russia decided to let go. Then most importantly, which one of the former Soviet Republics are doing better now than they did under Russian rule? even Ukraine that was a military and industrial powerhouse is a shadow of it's former self. Since independence they have been stumbling from one political crises to the other and are looking towards the EU to bail them out of economic problems.
South Sudan is the closest example of Nigeria. you have oil in minority areas, you have various tribes justling for power, you have greed, corruption etc. so south Sudan will give us an idea what separation and division will do to Nigeria. We from the nigerdelta do not want separation what we want is 50% derivation, true federalism and resource control. We are well aware that if separation occurs our lands will become the battle ground for the control of our oil resources not just by the three major tribes of Hausa, Yoruba and igbo ,but also by world's powers like Britain /France /the US versus China /Russia. Unless we submit ourselves to US protection like Kuwait and the Saudis. please stop generalizing |

Howmanage: I wouldn't go as far as stating bolded . Its quite some rose tinted glasses that would see "well built" projected in Nigeria's future as it is.Personally though I dream of a Yorubaland on its own(I know we would be fine) , I would prefer to give the Sovereign National Conference a go if it means we remain as Nigeria with autonomous regions. Nigeria has it shortcomings so does every other country. But hw well you handle matters alot. I cant say we are there yet but actually we are growing at a very slow rate. |

Orlando Owoh: DerideGull is one of such Nigerians in the diaspora clamouring for disintegration. He did this with Emeka Ojukwu during the Nigerian-Biafran War over fourty years ago but didn't succeed. that guy is not serious. If he was serious he should be in Nigeria fighting for what he is clamouring for. |

maclatunji: Your interpretation... by the way you removed "influence" from my statement. Stop being dubious.
Now, let me break it down for you: I am firstly a businessman before a politician. All Nigerians are to benefit more if we put our minds to developing our economy by profitably exploiting our natural resources within secure borders.
To this end, the whole of Nigeria is my "playground" and I intend to enjoy it. Contrast this to war and power struggles within/amongst potential successors of a fractured Nigeria. thank you it as simple as that. Before am a politician am a family and business man. I wouldnt destroy a well built future for something am not sure will work out well. Just take a look at these, nigeria is divided among religious line. If it is not religion it would be tribe. Even among the igbos there is hate among themselves, so if the country should disintegrate it might just solve one problem among the various region. But will create a thousand internal problems among the various regions and tribes. |

Dhelake: The Same way ojukwu sacrificed your Grandfathers Nna na wo oh. If you want to kil yourself go ahead dont bring us down with you. All the strenght dey are using to clamour for disintegration they could use to pave way for a better governance. Is it not the same corrupt leaders that will rule us when we go our way. |

I keep hearing people clamouring for disintegration. Why I dont normaly want to put myself into it is cause I have discovered that most of them clamouring for disintegration are mostly Nigerians living outside the country. Afterall it wouldnt affect them.
2015 will come and go and we will still be one, nothing will change.
National conference is something that has my support but for disintegration is a no go area.
What we have on nairaland are noise makers calling for disintegration, hw many of you calling for disintegration will be able to fight for it. |

A 13-year-old girl has given birth to triplets in the capital of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. The father is a 61-year-old man who is now on the run from authorities who are looking to charge him with sexually abusing a child. The young mother told local media she was ‘happy’ with her three sons, whom she has named Samuel, Joshua and Jovanny. According to the Daily Mail of UK, all three children are in the intensive care ward of a local hospital as the births were premature, but are all expected to survive. The age of consent is 18 in the Dominican Republic, yet it has one of the highest teen pregnancies in the world. Nearly 15 per cent of 15-19-year-olds in the Dominican Republic are mothers, with hundreds of babies born to girls under the age of 15 every year. The Dominican Republic’s Code of Minors has recently been revised and has strengthened provisions against child abuse, including physical and emotional mistreatment, sexual exploitation and child labour. The offences of child abuse carry a sentence of between 20 and 30 years and $2,000 to $10,000 fine. Source: www.informng.com/13-yr-old-gives-birth-to-triplets |
