After 13 years of manning the Nigeria goalposts, everyone surely has a favourite Vincent Enyeama moment. Whether it was when he stopped David Beckham’s free kick to announce himself to the world at Japan/South Korea 2002 or when he outshone Lionel Messi at the Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg. Who can forget his penalty save against Congo in Brazzaville? Enyeama has spoken glowingly of his favourite moment being the game where he shut out Messi at the 2010 World Cup. Even though Argentina won via a Gabriel Heinze header, keeping the world’s most talented footballer quiet brought greater satisfaction. “I can tell you that is one match I will always remember. I was highly inspired, and although we lost, I was selected the Man of the Match. We lost 0-1 but Lionel Messi did not score. That was some sort of joy for me,” he told the NFF website. https://static.goal.com/di/63CFD115F5658E3F5E968CD558503956.png Personally, my most memorable Enyeama moment was the late save he pulled off against Yaya Toure at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations quarter final match in Rustenburg. As the Super Eagles led 2-1 in that famous encounter, it was tense moments for every Nigerian that watched the game. I knew that Yaya was always going to have that one opportunity to fire a shot at goal as the Elephants chased the game. And it was great relief to see Enyeama pull off a save from the bulky Ivorian as the Eagles held on for a memorable victory that would propel them to win the Afcon title a week later at Soccer City in Johannesburg. As he is set to earn his centenary against Uganda tonight, the 32-year-old has given us a lot of joy more than sadness over his previous 99 caps. So we ask all our nairalanders to share their favourite Vincent Enyeama moment as we celebrate the great “Amalinze the Cat”. http://m.goal.com/x/en-ng/news/10165132 |
