A group of 20 political parties yesterday joined forces with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to form the Coalition of Progressives Political Parties (CPPP).

This political development came barely 24 hours after a group of 38 parties announced the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) to wrest power from President Muhammadu Buhari.

The chairman of the coalition, who is also the National chairman of PDM, Alhaji Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim, told reporters after hours of meeting at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja that the coalition was made up of like-minded political parties who believe in Nigeria’s unity and stability.

He claimed that the coalition was formed in 2014 ahead of the 2015 presidential election in support of the candidature of President Buhari, then APC candidate.

Ibrahim said the coalition was merely resurrected to counter the orchestrated PDP coalition against the APC-led government.

Berating the PDP coalition, he said the parties were driven by selfishness and hunger to capture power in 2019.

He explained that the parties that formed the coalition with the PDP lacked the agenda to drive a new Nigeria.

The PDM chairman alleged that most of the parties in the PDP coalition were fraudulently included to sign the MoU to deceive Nigerians.

He noted that while the Accord Party chairman and his party, the PDM, among others, abstained from the PDP meeting, their parties’ names were listed without their consent. This, he said, raised doubts about the credibility of the coalition.

He said: “Yesterday (Monday) we woke up to a new development where PDP outside power has now managed to create another coalition. As facts continue to emerge, they listed 36 political parties. Our analysis of that coalition reveals that a number of political parties were included in that coalition fraudulently.

“Part of the 42 political parties they listed is Accord party and the chairman of the party is here with us. If you are creating a coalition, you need to be honest about it as to who and who are members of the coalition.

“As of today, the membership of that coalition is in doubt. Two members also listed at that coalition are here. We are not part of that coalition because we represent a political type of politics which is in total contradiction of what they are doing.

“We do not believe that our country should be governed by people whose only objective is to capture power. For what purpose is that coalition built? Is it for the purpose of taking Nigeria back to 1999 and 2015 or is it for the purpose of building a new Nigeria?

“That purpose has not been stated, even their in their memorandum. The only thing in their MoU is to agree to capture power in 2019. Their programme has not been made known to the Nigerian public . We will not be part of a coalition that does not have a programme for Nigeria.”

On the objective of the CPPP coalition, Ibrahim said it was to mobilise Nigerians to play a greater role in political activities and ensure that they are given the right to elect their leaders in a free. fair and credible electoral process.

He said the agenda included to monitor and exert pressure on INEC to uphold the sanctity of elections and to help identify security threat, among others.

The secretary of the Coalition and National Chairman of the Advanced People’s Democratic Alliance (APDA), Shittu Muhammed Kabiru, noted that the coalition was to advance the course of democracy and to stabilise the economy which was mismanaged by past PDP- led governments.

Shittu said the coalition would bring Nigeria out of economic impoverishment.

“We want Nigerians to know that our coalition is for a new Nigeria and to advance the cause of Nigeria and democracy and also to change the country from impoverishment to economic prosperity.

“We want Nigeria to survive. We will do everything to defend the economy of this country; we are concerned about the unity and stability of Nigeria,” Shittu said

There are 68 registered political parties and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is considering the application for registration of about 138 others.

The political parties in pro-Buhari’s CPPP which met in Abuja yesterday, are: All Progressives Congress (APC), Accord Party, Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM), United Progressive Party (UPP), Advanced People’s Democratic Alliance (APDA), Hope Democratic Party (HDP), Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) and Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN).

Others are: Freedom Justice Party (FJP), Fresh Party (FP), New Nigeria’s Peoples Party (NNPP), Nigeria’s Peoples Congress (NPC), Nigeria Peoples Movement (NPM), Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), National Action Congress (NAC) and NDLP.

Some deaf and dumb persons on Monday staged a peaceful protest against what they termed as “illegal acquisition” of 20 acres of their land by the Oyo State Government.

The angry protesters, were led by the National Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of Christian Mission for the Deaf, Mr. Silas Ike.

Ike, while describing the acquisition as illegal, said the mission bought 39 acres of land on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in 2004 with a plan to build the first special university for the deaf and dumb in the country and Africa on it.

The protesters, who stormed the Agodi Government Secretariat, carried placards with various inscriptions, such as: “We need more than 39 acres for the proposed university”; “We want our land for proposed university”; “Please, do not oppress the deaf”; “Do not resettle people on our land”, “We bought our land with donations from people.”

Others read, “The deaf have rights to live better life”; “We need our land for school”; “Oyo State government should not forcefully occupy the deaf’s land”; “We need our land for vocational training and deaf university” and “The deaf are helpless, please.”

However, Commissioner for Land and Housing, Mr. Isaac Omodewu, who addressed the protesters, assured them that he would meet the governor, who he said was out of the state, on the matter.

Omodewu assured the protesters of facilitating a meeting with their representatives in the next one week.

Kingsley Moghalu, a presidential aspirant under the Young Progressives Party (YPP), has said that Nigerians do not need the alliance of “same old career politicians” but a generational shift in governance.

Moghalu said this while reacting to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Reformed All Progressives Congress (R-APC) and 37 other political parties.

The main objective of the memorandum is to unseat President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

Reacting, Moghalu in a statement on Tuesday said that even though, the development was a legitimate move, the real question remains: “What does our country need now?”

He said Nigeria needs a paradigm shift in governance and “a regrouping of the booted out PDP and members of the failed APC will not achieve that.”

“Going by the current state of the country, things are falling apart and the centre cannot hold.

“The shifting allegiances of the same old faces and the same old career politicians will mean the same old problems for Nigeria.

“Our long-suffering masses now need something new, something different, and something bold if we have truly learnt the lessons of 2015.

“Remember: another coalition brought the APC into the presidency.

“The PDP-led MoU and the “disastrous” performance of the APC, the path is now open for a real transformative third force and generational shift.

“The politicians have always won. It is time for the people to win in 2019!”

"Those Who Should Be in Buhari’s Executive Order 6 But Are Not

Nigerians woke up on Friday July 6, 2018, to find out that President Muhammadu Buhari had usurped the powers of the judiciary by issuing out Executive Order 6 of 2018 which stripped a number of former public officials of their assets.

The list reads like a who is who of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftains and betrays President Buhari’s obvious bias and incapacity for objectivity.

I have no sympathy for anyone who loots the public treasury, but let it be proved that that is the case. President Buhari cannot be a judge in his own case.

But the most compelling argument against President Buhari’s Executive Order 6 of 2018 is not who is on the list, but who is not on the list.

Significant amongst those not on the list are the following:

Timipre Sylva:

On June 1, 2015, two days after President Buhari was sworn in, the new APC government WITHDREW the charges preferred against Timipre Sylva, a known All Progressive Congress financier, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and on October 3, 2018, the EFCC returned to Sylva, 48 houses seized from him during the administration of former president, Goodluck Jonathan in 2013.

How can the Buhari administration justify returning 48 houses to Sylva? And why is Sylva not on the list of those whose property are affected by Executive Order 6 of 2018?

What legitimate business has Mr. Timipre Sylva engaged in to justify his acquisition of 48 houses?

Lieutenant General Turkur Buratai:

After the scandal burst that President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Army staff had bought multiple properties in Dubai allegedly worth $1.5 million, the Nigerian Army released a statement claiming that Mr. Buratai and his wife bought the properties from proceeds of their “personal savings”.

However, the same Buhari administration is trying Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia in court for corruption and rejected her argument that the sum of $793,800, which she was alleged to have, was from her legitimate earnings.

Federal High Court judges earn more than Major Generals in the army (A’s Buratai was when he made the suspicious purchases). If the Buhari administration rejected Justice Ajumogobia’s argument that she could have $793,800 from her legitimate earnings, how come they are willing to accept Turkur Buratai’s argument that he bought the alleged $1.5 million Dubai properties from his ‘personal savings’.

The argument falls flat on its face and thus, Lieutenant General Turkur Buratai should be treated like Justice Rita Ofili and included in the list of those affected by President Muhammadu Buhari’s Executive Order 6 of 2018.

Abdulrasheed Maina:

Maina is the biggest alleged thief in Nigeria’s civil service history. He was dismissed by former President Jonathan after allegedly making off with over $130 million. He was also declared wanted by the International Police (Interpol) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Yet, Maina, was recalled, reinstated and double promoted by the Buhari administration. When the Nigerian Senate sought to probe the circumstances of his recall and reinstatement, President Buhari’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice went to court to secure a kangaroo injunction to stop them.

The current head of service of the federation, Mrs Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita, revealed that she personally and verbally warned President Buhari of the Maina affair BEFORE he was recalled and the President REFUSED to stop the immoral action.

According to Junaid Mohammed, the Buhari government gave Maina armed guards to protect him and was preparing him to contest to he Governor of Borno before his cover was blown.

Abdulrasheed Maina is known to have many properties. How come he is not affected by President Buhari’s Executive Order 6?

Babachir Lawal:

A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Mr. Lawal allegedly gave a ₦200 million contract to his own company from monies meant to look after Internally Displaced Persons. Although he was reluctantly sacked by President Buhari after protest by the opposition and civil society, Babachir Lawal has still not been charged.

Instead, he was allowed to be replaced by his own cousin. He is also heading up a Political Action Committee mobilising for President Buhari’s re-election.

Mr. Lawal recently boasted to Channels TV that he still regularly meets with President Muhammadu Buhari.

He is known to have bought properties after he became Secretary to the Government of the Federation. How come his name is not on President Buhari’s Executive Order 6?

There are many more names I could list, but these names expose the fact that President Muhammadu Buhari’s so called EXECUTIVE ORDER No. 6 of 2018 is itself a hypocritical act of corruption that points four fingers at the President when he intends to point one finger at his political opposition.

The Chairman, Bauchi state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has said the platform was prepared to accommodate Speaker Yakubu Dogara and others R-APC members.

Hamza Kushe Akuyam spoke to DAILY POST in an exclusive interview on Saturday in Bauchi shortly after the party inaugurated two committees ahead of the 2019 elections.

He said PDP is a reformed party meant for Nigerians and is out to dethrone the ruling party.

“We are ever ready to welcome rAPC members to the PDP because they are coming back home to give a good run to the APC,” said Akuyam.
He describe the R-APC’s decision to pull out of APC as a good omen, saying they would be treated decently in the PDP.

According to the chairman, there is no hiding place for APC in 2019 if R-APC members finally decide to join the PDP.

“In fact, in Bauchi state, PDP is patiently waiting to take over government house from mis-representation of APC; they can no longer govern”, added Akuyam.

He explained that inauguration of elders and caucus committees was preparatory to power takeover from APC at the federal and state levels.

“We are not relenting in our efforts to restore PDP in 2019 elections; even though Buhari’s (recently signed) executive bill is just a gimmick to ridicule the opposition to the advantage of the ruling party”, said the chairman.

''I remember in a private conversation with him one day, he said ‘if it is the only thing I would do for Nigeria, I would give a free and fair election in this country.’ Look at all the elections that held in states under him – Bayelsa and Anambra, APC lost. APC won Kogi and Ondo. So when you win, win fair and square and when you lose, lose gallantly. He doesn’t interfere with INEC or the other agencies like EFCC, ICPC in anyway. I’m sure if you ask the INEC chairman, he would tell you the President has never picked a call to tell him do this.

The Reformed All Progressives Congress, R-APC has again hit at the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, saying President Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo lacked coordination.

The R-APC, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kassim Afegbua, cited the issue of restructuring as an example.

It said that Buhari and Osinbajo held different opinions on the subject.

Afegbua said the APC was not the party its founding fathers envisaged when they came together in 2014.

He said, “As we speak, the APC has jettisoned its own manifesto. Where is the restructuring we promised Nigerians? They hurriedly came up with a committee headed by Governor (Nasir ) el-Rufai; where has that landed us?

“The Vice-President is a supporter of restructuring. The President of the country is not a supporter of restructuring in the same government.

“There is no synergy. There is no coordination on any issue. You have about three or four opinions from the same government; that is not the way to lead.

“When the Fulani herdsmen issue came up in Benue State, the Inspector General of Police came up with a different position; the Minister of Defence gave a different position; and the Presidency is giving a different position.”

The National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, had in an interview with journalists, claimed that the R-APC members were mercenaries hired to destabilise the APC.

Reacting to this, Afegbua said they were genuine members of the party interested in retrieving the party from usurpers.

Afegbua, added, “Adams Oshiomhole needs to take a look at our past. We do not possess the characteristics of hirelings or mercenaries.

“We are bona fide members of the APC . When it is convenient for people, they dress you in very elegant robes but when they are losing the battle, they call you names, but we will not call them names, we will continue to insist that we are going to rescue the APC and reposition it for optimum performance.

“We cannot be preaching to be progressives when we are law-breakers. We cannot be preaching that we are progressives when we are a party that has performed abysmally low in all sectors of the economy.”

On Wednesday, thousands of devastated fans attended the open-casket memorial of  XXXTentacion to pay their last respect to the slain rapper who was gunned down last week

Family members and some friends were dressed in black t-shirts that said 'Bad' on front and 'No more pain' on the back as they gathered at the 20,000-seat BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida for the funeral.

Outside the arena, emotional fans broke down in tears and hugged each other to comfort themselves, while others were pictured singing along to XXXTentacion songs.

XXXTentacion whose real name was Jahseh Onfroy, 20,  was gunned down on June 18 while leaving a Deerfield Beach motorcycle dealership.

A local artist, Dedrick Williams, 22, was last week arrested and charged with depraved murder without premeditation, violation of probation and driving without a license for his involvement in the shooting.

On Wednesday, 22-year-old Robert Allen was declared a person of interest in the fatal shooting of Maimi rapper XXXTentacion after surveillance footage released by the Police, showed him outside the motorcycle dealership.

The Lagos state police command has arrested Achibong Koko, a laborer, for allegedly defiling a five-year-old girl at their residenci in Abule-Oshin, a surbub in the state.

Parading the suspect before newsmen at the state command yesterday June 27th, the state commissioner of police, Edgal Imohimi, said

'Information was received by the Divisional Police Officer, Onireke division, that a five-year-old girl had been defiled. A team of detectives was mobilised to the area, where the suspect, Achibong Koko, was arrested. According to the mother of the victim, the daughter left her room while she was asleep. She added that the girl was  violated while she slept. However, she noticed that the daughter was not walking properly, so she questioned her. The girl revealed that the suspect took advantage of her. The victim was taken to a hospital where a doctor carried out an examination. The examination report revealed that the hymen of the victim had been ruptured as a result of the defilement.”

The mother of the victim, Umoru Hajara,said she was asleep when the suspect took her daughter aside and defiled her. When she woke up, she noticed that her daughter wasn't walking properly. She checked and saw sperm on her daughter's vagina.

“I never knew she was no longer beside me. My aunt, who observed the way my daughter was walking, woke me up. When I saw her as well, I was forced to check her. I pulled down her pants and saw sperms on her body. I asked her who did it and she pointed to a particular room.  When we got there, we didn’t meet anyone. I went to report to the leader of my area, Alhaji Bello. But unknown to us, the suspect was in his friend’s room. Both of them were called out, and they asked my daughter who violated her. She pointed at him.”

The suspect denied the allegation saying he did not see the girl at all on the alleged day of the incident.

“I did not do anything to the girl. I did not even see the girl that afternoon. I was sleeping in my neighbour’s house around 3pm when I heard a noise outside. My friend told me that people were looking for us outside. They said the small girl had been defiled and that when they asked her who did it, she pointed at my room. The girl pointed at me at home and in the station that I did it; I don’t know why. Maybe because we stay in the same compound.”

The All Progressive Congress (APC) has called on the security agencies to arrest the perpetrators of the attack that claimed over 100 lives in Plateau State over the weekend.
The party made the demand in a statement released by their National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, today June 27th.
“We call on security agencies to spare no efforts in ensuring the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators and in stemming the occurrence of such violence in all parts of the country,” the statement said.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) commiserates with the government and people of Plateau State over Saturday’s gruesome killings in Barkin-Ladi and Riyom local government areas of the state.
Nothing can justify such descent to barbarism, bestiality and cruelty to a fellow man as witnessed with the gruesome killings.
While we grieve over the dead and commiserate with families and friends who have lost loved ones, we appeal to religious and community leaders to demonstrate true leadership even in the face of this terrible challenge, by appealing to those affected not to take the laws into their hands and avoid utterances and actions that can provoke reprisal.
We are confident that President Muhammadu Buhari’s prompt visit to Plateau State will help in providing some succour to the affected and reassuring everyone of Mr. President’s commitments to tackling the security situation in the country.
