I don't think I deviated from the topic. He is blaming our communal way of life for causing poverty and I countered his point with my own arguments.
This same family conscious culture is the secret behind the pulling of millions of Indians out of poverty. Do I talk about the Chinese?
Individualism is un-African and will not work. It's not who we are as Africans.

If sending 20k to your mother is the reason why you couldn't break generational poverty then you are not serious.
Tell Nigerian youths to be productive and stop Yahoo, hookup, miracle money and gambling.
All serious countries broke free from poverty when their youths embraced industrialization and productivity.

Dpsychologist:
Let’s be brutally honest — Black Tax is slavery dressed up as culture.

For those unfamiliar, Black Tax is the cultural expectation that once you start earning, your salary belongs not just to you, but to your parents, siblings, cousins — sometimes even uncles and aunties.
Sounds noble, right? But here’s the hard truth:

Many people in their 20s and 30s especially firstborns are stuck living like they’re still broke, not because they don’t earn, but because their family’s demands never end.
Everywhere in Africa, once you start earning, you’re automatically turned into the family’s ATM especially when not born with a silver spoon . It doesn’t matter if you’re just starting out, if your salary is small, or if you’re struggling yourself — the moment you collect that paycheck, you owe everybody.

They call it “responsibility.” But let’s tell the truth:

It’s financial exploitation.

It’s entitlement disguised as love.

It’s one of the biggest reasons young Africans will NEVER break generational poverty.

The Trap

A graduate earns ₦70k.

₦20k to mum.

₦15k to dad.

₦10k to sibling.

Another cousin calls for school fees.

Uncle calls for “urgent 5k.”

At the end of the month, guess what’s left? Zero.
No savings. No investment. No future. Just endless poverty cycle.

And when you dare say “No,” you’re suddenly the wicked, ungrateful child.

The Irony

Here’s the painful part:

The same parents who drained their kids often never saved or invested when they were young.
They now dump the responsibility of their own financial failure on their children.

Instead of empowering the next generation, they enslave them with guilt.

And let’s be real — how many families use this money wisely?
At times, it goes into wasteful spending while the “breadwinner” suffers in silence.

The Hard Truth Nobody Wants to Hear

If African youth keep paying endless Black Tax, nobody will ever be rich.
One person cannot save a whole clan. Period.

👉 A child’s duty is not to fund laziness, poor planning, or entitlement.
👉 If you destroy your own financial future to please family, you will just create another generation of broke people.

The Conversation We Need

Should young Africans build themselves first before carrying family on their back?

Is saying “NO” selfish, or the only way to break free?

At what point does “support” turn into slavery?

Until we face the truth, Black Tax will keep Africa chained to poverty.

What’s your take?
Are we ready to break this culture, or are we too afraid of being called “selfish”?

Politics › Can Someone Explain This? by Walai(op): 9:32pm On Oct 04, 2025
You have two bank accts let's say acct A and B, same BVN, same NIN and same phone number.
You transferred 10k from acct A to B all belonging to you and for sending money, you are charged for
1. Transfer fees
2. VAT on transfer fees
3. Electronic debit message sent to you
4. VAT on debit message

Then for transferring to ur own account B, you are charged for
1. Fund receiving fee
2. VAT on fund receiving
3. Credit SMS alert fee
4. VAT on credit SMS alert fee.

If this is not double taxation what then is the definition of double taxation?

Doing HND is like restarting the school once more, we're talking of uni here. Just try pay year one schl fee in your first year to get your reg no and nobody will worry you for school fee till you graduate then. Yes, they will do school fee check once in a while during exam but its school policy then not to deny any student exam because of school fees. I'm talking of a Northern federal university. Anybody telling you he dropped from federal university because of school fees then is lieing to you.

Education › Re: Federal Universities Have Turned To Private Universities by Walai(m): 7:51pm On Oct 03, 2025
Stop arguing what you don't know. I can say it on good authority that no student dropped out because of funding in federal universities. In some depts then, you can graduate without paying a dime of school fees after year one but you must pay during clearance. 99% dropouts are unserious students and those that joined cult.

Paramount01:
When it was cheap are they not doing yahoo? When it was cheap don't we have drop out due to students that can't afford it? No no students can say they are drop out due to fund again because of nelfund

ADC claimed the coalition is to remove an incompetent and corrupt government. If a candidate have to buy delegates before he becomes their flag bearer then Obi should rather remain in LP or at worst, BAT should go for second tenure lets finish this country kpatakpata.
I trust PO, he will rather donate 100M to a School of Nursing in Kogi than give any delegate shishi to elect him a Presidential candidate.

AMINDA:
Okay, assuming but no conceding that all what you said are true, what would your candidate do if he gets a free ticket and meets Tinubu at the polls who has money to spend? Ask Tinubu to step down? You all are not ready. Not even Jonathan, a former president will get a free ticket under the PDP.
Politics › Re: Breaking: 2027, I’m Willing To Step Down For A Younger Candidate – Atiku by Walai(m): 8:48pm On Oct 01, 2025
1993- MKO Abiola was his senior. Atiku wasn't that rich as per his hand never begin touch serious government money
2011- GEJ out spent him, yes, delegates were paid heavily. I have evidence of that.

2015 - Tinubu, Amaechi heavily funded Buhari's primary with Lagos and Rivers money. They out spent him naira to naira, dollar to dollar. I have evidence too

2019- He out spent Wike who tried to sponsor Tambuwal. It was dollar reign in the Port Harcourt PDP primaries.

2023- same as 2019

AMINDA:
If there's none that can beat him in a party primary, then how can such candidate defeat Tinubu in the general election? Will the candidate also pressure Tinubu to step down? And before you come up with your tired "dollarised primaries" cliché, Atiku has lost primary elections several times in the past.

1993 Vs MKO: He stepped down and supported MKO.

2011 Vs GEJ: He came 2nd and supported jonathan.

2015 Vs Buhari: He came 3rd and supported Buhari.

These are the years he didn't get the ticket. Atiku has paid his dues and he's not asking for free ticket. Simply contest the primaries and defeat him at the polls or go form your own party.

Don't tell me you didn't comprehend this simple write up which my son in pri 5 can easily comprehend. Just look at the people I'm arguing with on a faceless forum.
Obanaedo rejected both iyaloja general and iyeki general. Benin has only iyeki for every market and no iyeki can control the other, therefore the iyeki general she came to inaugurate is forbidden.

ChiefOloye:
Are you sure you understand what read or you just allowed Sahara to use your head?
The Oba didn't say she is not Iyaloja, "Iyaloja" is a Yoruba word, the Benin variant is "iyeki" which implies that Mrs. Folashade could be referred to as Iyeki General, while she on the soil of Benin Kingdom. That's neither rejection nor confrontation, as Sahara wants you to believe, but a simple call for cultural respect and acceptance.

EYEWITNESS ACCOUNT: Fresh Facts Emerge on How ARISE News Anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu Died During Abuja Robbery Attack

The last has not been heard about the tragic death of a young and vibrant journalist working with Arise TV, Somtochukwu Maduagwu who lost her life during a robbery attack at her residence in the early hours of Monday in the Katampe area of Abuja.

An eyewitness, Hon Ejiro Okpihwo who spoke to Abuja PR practitioner, AlexReports said the robbers in their large numbers had invaded the block of 3-storey building on that fateful morning.

In a bid to conduct a swift operation, they divided themselves in groups to be robbing the flats one after the other.

Somtochukwu Maduagwu who lived in the 3rd floor after sighting the robbers was gripped in fear and had attempted to escape over possible fear of being molested.

The eyewitness who lives in a house very close to the robbery scene said in the rising tension and chaotic environment, the now late TV anchor and ex beauty queen attempted to jump from third floor for her dear life while the robbers told her not to.

She however dived, landing on the floor with her head, which caused her a fatal injury.

The eyewitness who is the Project Director of Most Beautiful Girl In Abuja Pageant (MBGA) and AMAC councilorship candidate was reported to have immediately invited the police when he sighted the situation.

The police were said to have arrived the scene about ten minutes later and met Somtochukwu Maduagwu battling for her life after the robbers had left.

She was immediately rushed to the hospital in the police vehicle before she finally died.

"What the public should know is that the lady was not shot, contrary to narrative that it was a planned assassination. She jumped all the way from third floor and hit her head on the floor", the eyewitness said.

Though the security man at the residence was killed of gun shot wounds in the process of gaining access into the compound.
