Politics / Re: Soyinka - The Village Mourners - A Must-read Bombshell by waledud(m): 10:33am On Jun 23, 2013
Sciencs: If after readin dis piece of article, anybody stills finds it INSULTIVE rather dan seein it as "BLUNTLY REASONABLE" words wic calls for a change of mind if we r 2 live nt only as peaceful individuals bt as a nation free from hate, then such person must av bin sufferin from d same pathetic brain dysfunction charles darwin suffered wic made him concluded dat man originated from Apes!...no insult intended!
Now I think you are delving into a realm you have absolutely no idea about. Am talking about your allusion to Charles Darwin's theory as being ill-derived. A postulation that was deemed valid enough to occupy a foremost position in the works of the pantheon of the collective frontier of scientific knowledge should not be feebly dismissed by any lone-mind. The smudginess of such a conclusion like yours smarks of the very shallow arrogation of the exclusive capacity for mind decryption that WS is talking about. The fact that we have major failures in discerning the intent and founding of a particular action, process, or postulation shouldn't nerve us to making unguided public pronouncement about it. Imagine, you have just labelled the man a pathetic mental case just because you could not come to terms with his well-founded, nay, near-immortal work, not minding that someone on this forum who is little informed about that subject would go away with that knowledge, albeit untrue. FYI, even I find it hard to admit that I must have to trace my decendancy to the apes but I know for a fact that the theory has worked and helped to bring about advancement in medicine, archaelogy, and even economics. The beauty of science is that you do not need to understand it to use it. You are using the internet right now but I can almost bet you do not know how it works, however, am sure some people must have thought the proponents of the idea of the internet mad in their time. So pls, let's thread cautiously especially on issues we do not have an authority on & No, WS wasn't painting a colour of any ethnic bigotry. He clearly stated that his concern is not related to the geographic but the humanistic. He was talking about the cause and effect relations of a skewed mentality on the human psyche in unexpected fronts and how it is capable of robbing us all of common civility even on a platform like this (NL).

Inioluwa or niniola?
Anyway inioluwa means I have God
Meanwhile niniola means å child that. Brings wealth..
Wrong interpretation there..Inioluwa means 'the possession of God' while Niniola means 'to have a thing of wealth'. Dazall

Nooooo..it's you that's wrong..the poster said 'biggest turnoffs' (plural). Ofcourse she can list more than one thing..nothing in her comment suggests that thr aren't more thns dat give her the 'low' in guys & so we can safely assume those are her biggest ..Now it's this kind of 'ITK' that makes ppl fail in real life exam situations & mine is not meant 2 give you the 'teeth'.

yohanna zack: Dat was a gud one there. But butler shuld count himself lucky he is not frm another society or faith, he wuld hav been gistin wit his late grand parents now. Jesus is indeed LORD.
Not from another faith or not from another era like in the 16th & 17th centuries when the Roman Catholic Church runs a global network of merceneries whose commission was to eliminate the enemies of the church & its doctrines. Henry VIII was just lucky to escape such an end; his fate had been planned. But I think such practices are a thing of the past. Catholic Church is no longer as powerful & influential as it once was in the past.

wild guy: With all these calculations about light years, does that mean what the scientists saw is actually 40light yrs old?
Yes! U cud say dat..the light from the planet that are detected by their telescopes have actually been journeying for 40 light years. Much in the same way that the position in which u see the sun is really the one it was about 8mins ago cos it took the image that long to get to ur eyes.

Billyonaire: Time Travel, I still find it difficult to wrap my brain around that principle. I think its more fiction than factual.
I also realistically think that time travel could only exist in the realm of fiction & actually to such it has been confined so far. However, the idea has been explained scientifically to be one of the many offshoots or consequences of the Einstein's general theory of relativity. There are actually quite a number of routes to the concept but one popular one entails the warping of the space-time using some form of bridges called 'wormholes', which are essentially thin tubes of space-time that can connect 2 nearly flat regions of the 'space-time universe'. This particular idea is actually not science fiction as Einstein himself together with Nathan Rosen were able to theoretical demonstrate the possibility of a typical wormhole. The problem was that the wormhole they created didn't last long enough for a spaceship to go through but they posited that advances in civilization could make it possible to keep the wormhole longer. This ofcourse has not happened so far except in the stuffy little fantasy world of some sci-fi writer. The subject is actually a complicated, allbeit, a very interesting one & I tell you some crazy scientists are locked up in some obscure laboratories working their heads off on some cerebral theories to make some lofty time machine to bring about some expository time travel which they see as a solution to some world's great problem while you and I sit in the popcorn-cozy comfort of our sitting rooms watching 'Kim & Courtney take Miami'.

It'll take you 40 years to get there shocked
Point of correction, my friend..it will take light 40yrs to get there, not humans..and 2 imagine dat light travels an unbelievable 300,000km in just one second is attempting 2 wreck ur brain. Let alone fathoming the distance it travels in 1hr, 1day, 1month, before you come to 1 year or 40yrs for that matter. Believe me, dat journey can not be made in 50yrs time except thru time travel which is stil a principle in theory and not in practice. That is not even taking into consideration the great speed @which the said planet revolves round its sun, its extreme of temperature, and other factors that would make prospecting on it impossible.

Crime / Re: Desola Ade-Unuigbe Supports Aluu Community by waledud(m): 9:20am On Oct 10, 2012
I honestly think that this misguided character called Desola was high on some cheap charry substance while writing this ill-informed, badly articulated, and pitifully disheartening mumbo-jumbo of a piece. His level of insensitivity & obvious lack of human sympathy is sadistic. I find it unbelivable that any rational thinking human being would make an attempt, under any guise whatsoever, to justify this blatantly devilish act of cruelty meted on those hapless students. To justify it is no less any dehumanizing than the very act itself. Crime has many faces but justice has but one form. Any manner of justice that does not allow for the principle of fair hearing & an holistic or exhaustive appreciation of the contending issues is no justice at all. In fact, it is a crime in itself. It is for this reason that the extra-judicial killing of the students by their assailants in Aluu community, in such a Gestapo manner should be condemned by all. It is subhuman, irrational, and unacceptable. True justice must be done.

Politics / Re: President Jonathan Backs Out Of Presidential Debate? by waledud(m): 9:24pm On Mar 05, 2011
Yes he is a public speaker and he has done that in various capacities, conferences and even rallies if you want to factor this election campaigning so there is not doubt about that.  He simply is not interested so why can't you guys get it, listen to the ones who wants to debate and choose who to vote for. Those that will vote for goodluck already know how and when he has communicated his plans to them. It is not by force to debate or what exactly is the issue here. What is the fuse about this debate or did MKO had a debate before the presidential election in 1993? same for shagari and the first republic elections. What is the benefit of a debate that cannot be served by other means, he has communicated with Nigerians on facebook, through his campaign and he thinks that is enough.

Being a Phd holder does not translate to a competent public speaker, you must have gone through the presentations of many lecturers and i doubt if they all performed equally. Being a good public debater does not translate to a better administrator or manager. It is one thing to perform very well at the debate and another thing to perform well when you are actually given the job to do. You guys are just trying to make a mountain out of nothing and i doubt any one of you would even manage a local government if given the job. A good strategist picks the battle he has the highest comparative advantage of winning and he is not driven by impulse or popular opinions.

Let me start by putting things in perspective for you. Please if u were too young to know what transpired in the polity in the 90's then you should have availed yourself of the opportunity of the internet's historical archives to assist the weakness of your memory (not an insult). The 1993 presidential debate, where Chief MKO Abiola waxed lyrical with words and inundated our consciousness with facts & figures, was adjudged one of the best & most issue-based debate we've ever had in this country. It was in that debate that Abiola educated us by reeling out some disturbing statistics of our national life & even emasculated his opponent by asking & telling him how much a cup of garri cost then. So research your facts well before you throw it into the public domain like this great forum or before you undermine the personality of such a national hero like MKO.

Back to the main issue at hand, yes being a PhD. holder may not necessarily translate to competency in public speaking but it should inform or engender a certain level of sagacity & circumspection that sure should come to the fore anytime you open your mouth to speak. Listening to GEJ talk sometimes makes me sit uncomfortably on the edge of my seat & jolt every second for fear that he definately will soon say the wrong thing, especially when on international media. If he is not committing a grammatical or pronunciation blunder then he just would undermine his academic pedigree by making a rather unpardonable submission. Honestly, I use to have a great deal of respect for him but that was before he started opening his mouth. I particularly liked his political calmness during the sit-tight era of the ailing Yar'Adua but now I know dat he didn't say nothing then because he actually has nothing to say. Immediately he got hold of power and started to talk, 'breeze begin blow & we begin see fowl yache'. Look at the knee-jeck manner in which he tried to robe his political opponents in during the Abuja independence day anniversary bomb blast & frantically tried to exculpate MEND despite the later claiming responsibility. Also, he will not be quickly forgiven for branding all the southwest opposition leaders as "rascals". That's pathetic coming from a PhD. holder as that word 'rascal' did not emanate from his head but was handed over to him by Obasanjo who was standing right there beside him, further confirming the dependence of his ideas on expo as some have rightly noted on this thread. I rest my case for now.
