Brendaniel: I have already responded to this claim, the situations are different
The situation isn't different. When a state feels certain properties contravenes the law or wishes to destroy property in the interest of public facilities, amenities or infrastructure.
The state must get a court order, by justifying the demolition to the court, to do so. Once the court order to demolish the structures are issued, the demolition becomes legal.
Brendaniel: The buildings destroyed in Anambra and Abia were for road construction, that's a different issue, is Lagos building any road in trade fair?
To destroy those buildings in Anambra and Abia, was court order not secured by the state government?
Once the court orders the demolition, then it becomes legitimate. That was also the case in Lagos state. You are simply trying to rationalize the law which is clear and unsentimental.
Brendaniel: No one is arguing on whether they have the rights of approval here, the issue is the demolition, is the government designed to guide or fight the people?
Doesn't this look like revenge?
A building is not something people build in a day, it is not a car people park and you can just tow away and return, so destroying it was the best solution?
A whole state government that should be encouraging decorum and good behavior is behaving like agbero.
so you are are telling me that destroying people's sweat is the best solution a whole state government could offer when they could use police to seal off the place and ask everyone to go get their approvals from them? '
You are the one seeing revenge. It is no revenge. The law is blind to your emotions.
The law is very clear on buildings that are not approved - demolition is covered by the law.
If the developers are not convinced or they are so offended, they can go to court.
eagleonearth: Please can Nlanders suggest to me what I should with this shop on my street that sold me a fake pepsodent toothpaste. The moment I opened it and pushed out the paste, I just knew it. The colours were blurred and paste was watery compared to the original with sharp colours and dry paste. I then settled down to compare it to the original on pepsodent's twitter page, that is when it dawned on me that I was just sold a fake product. I tried using it to brush and it did not foam, does not leave your mouth minty fresh as usual. This is clearly fake.
Can you please suggest what I do with this people. They also operate a drug store where I am sure they sell fake drugs to unsuspecting customers.
Mods please quickly push this to front page so I know what to do with this people on time.
Did you check the expiry date? It could have expired.
Whatever the case may be, take pictures of it and approach the shop where you bought it to lodge a complaint. I expect them to replace it or ask you to add more money to buy a more superior toothpaste that is more expensive than Pepsodent.
If they refuse to address it, then report officially to NAFDAC. Keep your receipt and or record the conversation when you get to the shop to make your complaint.

Irene671: 2027 Presidency: I’m Willing to Step Down for a Younger Candidate – Atiku, Gives Reason
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that he is ready to shelve his presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 general election if a younger and widely acceptable candidate emerges under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Atiku made this known during an interview with BBC Hausa Service on Wednesday, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary.
The former presidential candidate explained that his interest in the 2027 race is not about personal ambition, but about providing a credible alternative to rescue the country from its current state. He urged younger Nigerians to actively participate in politics, assuring them of his full backing if they choose to run for the highest office.
“My being in the 2027 race does not prevent anyone from contesting. If a vibrant and widely accepted younger candidate emerges, I am willing to step aside,” Atiku stated.
Atiku also shed light on his decision to align with the ADC, blaming internal crises within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and alleged government interference for his departure.
According to him, efforts to build a united opposition under the PDP were repeatedly undermined by some party leaders who, he claimed, were being used by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to create division.APC party merchandise
“We couldn’t achieve our objectives in the PDP because some leaders were being influenced by the APC to frustrate the opposition. The crisis kept growing, and hopes of resolving it kept fading,” he explained.
He added that if he had held a key decision-making role within the PDP leadership, he would have taken firm steps to resolve the party’s challenges. However, he lamented that those occupying such positions were more focused on personal interests.APC party merchandise
Speaking on the future of the ADC, Atiku revealed that the party has already established its national leadership and is now focused on building strong state and local government structures ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Our plan is to ensure the ADC has solid structures at every level, so we can be fully prepared for the elections,” he said.
He also reflected on Nigeria’s journey since independence, noting that while there have been some improvements, the country is still far from the vision of its founding fathers.
“Nigeria has experienced changes, but they are not the kind of progress our founding fathers envisioned. There’s still a lot of work to be done,” he remarked.
FarahAideed: The same union that joined Kyari to lie that PH and Warri refineries were working
When the management and board of NNPC says the refineries are working and they are actually blending reserve PMS and other grades of Petroleum Products to derive and push out substandard PMS.
You expect the staff or union to say the refineries are not working? The staff should contradict their employer abi?
Who do you think was doing the blending, trucking and loading and administrative functions during that period PMS was being trucked from Port Harcourt Refinery Company? You think it was magic ar machines that were not manned or robots?
Elusive001: Don't mind them. Most of them who make noise here, supporting Dangote have never worked in good organisation with unions. They either hawk items or work with one man business where they are only 8 workers and their bosses do as they like.
You have said it all. They don't even understand what a labor union Could be.
Bluntemperor: Please, tell us what Your PENGASSAN and NUPENG,NUBIFIE,etc have achieved in Nigeria- since you know! Tell us just one thing here, then I open their cankerworm for all to see! I'm sure, you are benefiting - Directly and Indirectly from them. Besides, tell us- where you have worked till date and why you are supporting them?
PENGASSAN and NUPENG,NUBIFIE, and other labor unions have achieved what your ancestors and generation could never have achieved.
Gotocourt: They won't succeed under Tinubu government, he needs the refinery to run for ease of governance for the citizens. Time to start chasing all this comrades 🤷🏿
Tinubu will never take up a fight against labor unions. He is a better human resources manager than you imagine.
I can take a bet on it and you can take it to the bank.
caleboxylic: Ignorance at full display. If you don't want your workers to join a union, then don't hire. It's simple. Without union, our salaries wouldnt have been improved, same as allowances. Those in multinational across globe are all in labour unions, then one local champion is making noise up and down against union. Those workers must be allowed to join a union.
My brother, the number of uninformed and shallow minded commentators on nairaland is so alarming.
You would just wonder how they think or reason. How do these people even manage their primary environment?
femmy2010: They have not directed their strikes at the government-owned refineries, which have remained idle despite the billions of taxpayers’ money invested in them. This raises serious concerns that these unions may not truly be acting in the best interest of Nigeria or Nigerians. Imagine the ordeal a non-Nigerian investor would face in the hands of such unions. Actions like these send the wrong signal, and future investors are already using this as a litmus test to decide whether Nigeria is a safe and reliable destination for their capital.
Do you know the number of non Nigerian companies in the oil and gas sector and several other sectors of the economy?
How many of them had issues with the labor unions that translated to industrial strikes?
The government owned refineries are not functional so how do they direct strike at them?
The unions are for protection of rights of staff, welfare and working conditions of staff, primarily.
Opebiman: ASUU is the Trade Union of University Academic Staff in Nigeria, but they don't disturb Covenant University, Baze University, JABU, Crescent University, Babcock and all other private Unis to allow their lecturers join the Union.
NURTW is the Trade Union of Road Transport Workers in Nigeria, but you don't see them go after GOD IS GOOD, GUO, EKESON and the likes, even if they are in the Transportation business, their drivers don't also join any Union.
NUT is the Trade Union of Teachers in Primary and Secondary School, but you don't see them go after Chrisland College, Grange School, Charterhouse Lagos, British International College and tell the teachers to join them.
But you think it is ok for Dangote to build a Refinery solving all our collective petroleum imports problems, and then, allow PENGASSAN to dictate to him and shut down his Refinery whenever they feel like.
I think any Refinery worker that is not happy at Dangote Refinery and needs the Union to help him, should seek employment somewhere else, or take Dangote to court.
ENOUGH OF THIS NONSENSE PLZ!
.... That may sound like nonsense to you but it is the law, it doesn't necessarily have to make sense to you.
Tenrack: Yes. Please invite her family over. Go to the market and purchase those items you used for marriage introduction. Kneel down like your life depends on it and prostrate afterwards. Apologize to her and tell her you can't do without her. Please try to appear very very sorry. Don't worry everything would be fine.
Misterone: Educate yourself first! Did any of this companies declare a force majeure? No. PENGASSAN just shut down everything overnight without notice. The law says you can't just go on strike overnight. You have to give notice.
You pitched a situation whereby the shutdown by PENGASSON can affect the ability of the companies engaged to supply Dangote Refinery crude oil, you said Dangote Refinery could sue those companies for failure to deliver.
That is the reason I called your attention to "force majeure" clause in every of such contract. This "force majeure" can be triggered by either the company or Dangote Refinery in the event of PENGASSON strike disrupting their ability to deliver on the contract.
PENGASSON gave a short notice. The law doesn't expressly state the length of the notice.
Brendaniel: But is the government not supposed to be leading by example?
Leading by example starts with you and i. It starts with the ordinary citizens because the government is a product of the ordinary citizens.
Members of the government are actually selected from the citizens.
If we can't be disciplined individuals who respect the laws and positions of the government. If we want to pervert the law by bribing and influencing government representatives or employees to achieve out selfish desires. Then government will be in ruins and we will subsequently blame the government too.
Druss: Management (senior) staff in oil and gas companies are not members of Pengassan. It is not so from my experience. Yes I know the name has senior staff in it.
