This is the most insensitive comment I have ever read on Nairaland platform. I can't just believe that there are some idiots like this person I am responding to. Probably you are a family man eating and dinning with the lots of senseless Nigeria leaders or you might even be a paid fool to come to Social media and denigrate the efforts Nigerians are trying to pass to the insensitive and callous government of Tinubu. That woman carrying empty pot says a lot. It denotes empty promises your Lord, Tinubu had made to Nigerian people. That empty pot denote the lack of food in the land, denote the lack of money to buy things, denote lack of hospital to go to when sick. That empty pot signify also your empty life without a mission in life. See the man with her too. It shows that Ebi N pawa.....meaning that Nigerians are hungry. Mr stupid, go get a life.

While some are genuinely hungry for change, others are merely hungry for attention. The empty pot is a perfect metaphor for the empty promises these protests bring.

The much anticipated protests commenced today throughout the six regions of Nigeria. It has been much of a success in most areas except some skirmishes that erupted in Kano State, Borno and Niger state. Also recorded was a slight disorder in Abuja and some disagreement in Lagos at Ojota between the police and the protesters.

The real cause of this protest is the fact that many Nigerians are struggling with high costs of living, food inflation of over 40 percent, Naira devaluation-- and a tripling of fuel prices and a sad continuous stealing of Nigeria crude oil by the politicians and their Cohorts in NNPCL. Also, among these are the high cost of governance. Eg. 23 Billions Naira to renovate Vice president residence, 160 million Naira for Brand new SUVs for over 100 members of the National Assembly. Regular corruptions/ Looting of national treasure without investigation or unending investigation. These and many more are the reasons frustrated Nigerians came out enmasse this morning to show their anger and hoping that the insensitive leaders will have the wisdom to address their numerous stated issues and avoid the disaster that could generate if left unattended to as compared to Endsars protest where the insensitive Ex President Buhari showed no concern until the protest became bloody after the government of that period sponsored hoodlums and infiltrated the peaceful protesters.

Right now is the best time for any wise leader to address the protesters and speak to them as a father and not a dictator. A wise leader will speak with emotion and not empty swag and fake American slang known with this present leader.

He needs to really be proactive and careful this time. He shouldn't delegate responsibilities to small dogs like Senior special assistants, media mouth piece and any other assistant as that.

He needs to take the bull by the horn and address the issues laid down by the people that he's governing.

Several hundred protesters also marched in the Ikeja area of the economic capital, Lagos.

In Abuja, security forces blocked off roads leading to Eagle Square — one of the planned protest sites — while several hundred protesters gathered at the nearby national stadium before marching towards the square.

Security forces later also fired tear gas to disperse crowds in Mararaba on the outskirts of the capital and in its centre, an AFP reporter said.

Many Nigerians are struggling with high costs — food inflation is at 40 percent — and a tripling of fuel prices, but many people were also wary about insecurity around protests.

“Hunger has brought me out to protest,” said 24-year-old demonstrator Asamau Peace Adams outside the National Stadium in Abuja before tear gas was fired. “It’s all down to bad governance.”

Small groups of protesters also gathered in Kano, where Castellan Supermarket was vandalized and looted before they started to destroy signposts and try to light fires.

“We are hungry — even the police are hungry, the army are hungry,” said factory worker Jite Omoze, 38.

“I have two children and a wife but I can’t feed them anymore,” he said, calling for the government to reduce fuel prices.

On the eve of the protests, government officials urged young activists to reject rallies and allow time for Tinubu’s reforms to take hold and improve the economy.

But protest leaders, a loose coalition of civil society groups, vowed to press on with rallies despite what they say were legal challenges trying to limit them to public parks and stadiums instead of marches.

The government on Wednesday listed aid it has offered to alleviate economic pain, including raising the minimum salary levels, delivering grains to states across the country and aid to the most needy.

“The government of President Tinubu recognises the right to peaceful protest, but circumspection and vigilance should be our watch words,” Secretary to the Federation of Government George Akume told reporters.

The last major protest in Nigeria was in 2020 when young activists rallied against the brutality of the SARS anti-robbery squad in demonstrations that evolved into some of the largest in Nigeria’s modern democracy.

But the rallies ended in bloodshed in Lagos. Rights groups accused the army of opening fire on peaceful protesters, but the military said troops used blanks to break up a crowd defying a curfew. Amnesty International said at least 10 people died.

Nigeria’s protests come after Kenyan President William Ruto was forced to repeal new taxes and name a new cabinet following weeks of anti-government protests in the worst crisis in his almost two years in office.

Really afraid that this protest is becoming violent. Today is the first day and sadly we are experiencing this level of violent. Tomorrow is another day, next tomorrow and next again till 10th. Even Endsars beginning was more peaceful until government infiltrated the protesters within 17 and 18th October, 2020. I am really afraid for Nigeria.

The Senator Representing the FCT , Senator Ireti Kingibe has expressed a hope that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike could prevent any violence, particularly in the FCT, and commended the effort if it could be achieved without bloodshed. While addressing her exclusion from a recent meeting between the FCT minister and traditional rulers concerning the upcoming protest, she was indifferent about her exclusion from the meeting.

Sound just like few years a go when NNPCL imported adulterated PMS into the country and so many cars engine got damaged including mine too.
