Apatheist: "it's a lie, we believe in God, we live longer, and are more advanced "LOL. It has bothered me that there is not a single African or black country that is considered as "first world" though. I've often wondered why. |
Ubenedictus: all religions are cults, if the word cult is used in the right sense then all religions are cults. I don't take offense. I belong to the christian cult.Thank you for your sincerity. Now if I can only get you to admit that Ratzinger protected p)edophiles from prosecution, we could meet up and sing kum ba ya. |
Ubenedictus is a cult member, he just doesn't think it's a cult because of the membership size. |
Apatheist: Really? It wouldn't work in Oyinbo land. There are too many skeptics who are already sure that the s)hit won't work. Plus, unlike Africa, the organizers will check everything to make sure that no prop is involved. African people don't even go close to ordinary magic props. We're very primitive in our mindset, and yet our life expectancy is shorter than the Oyinbo. |
Lord_Reed: I am not interested in dogma or a dogmatic following. I know men hunger for inner peace and for me I find it in a spiritual connection (prayer) as you do in psilocybin. Is either of us crazy?I completely understand. I would have remained on your team, but unfortunately, I figured out that it was based on lies. The most important thing is that it makes sense to you. If it does, then simply ignore me and my ridicule. But make sure you're not pretending to yourself in order to blend into a much larger trend. Most religions don't allow certain questions to be asked without making the questioner feel guilty about betraying God or something. But if your conscience is clear that you've satisfied your requirement, then Jesus is definitely for you, or Islam is. I would say the same thing to the Muslim. As for me, the concept I have of God in my head is incompatible with the ones in religion. My God would expect me to question its existence using reason, logic, and my brain. |
beejaay: this is one of the fallacies... we dont even know 10% of natural yet people talk about supernatural....same way our forefathers called smallpox, measles, malaria supernatural diseases some hundreds of years back but we now know betterKnowledge is power. If you were to show up even in medieval London with a helicopter, they would have called you ET, until you ran out of gas and had to park your aircraft. Lol. |
Rayhut: Those doubting the existence of God should answer this one question, where is the source of juju, voodoo, witchcraft and supernational powers. This powers are they real or not.If they are real where is the source fromGood question. Have you ever heard of placebos, or the placebo effect? I believe that certain potentials of human consciousness remain a mystery to science, and sorcery is one of them. In both sorcery and placebos, what undermines their efficacy is knowledge or observation. In the case of placebos, knowing that you're being given a sugar pill instead of a real medicine causes your symptoms to remain as they are. However, most Africans don't quite understand the mechanism behind sorcery, so the possibility exists that they may be susceptible to its potential, not unlike the patient who unknowingly takes a sugar pill. Not only that, but we've actually been conditioned to believe that it works through years of culture and traditions. Compare that to western culture where a sorcerer might be ridiculed and told to look for real employment. Hollywood movies even allow their heroes to physically confront sorcerers and beat them up, proving that a refutation of sorcery is deeply ingrained in their culture. Having said that, I can assure you that at the source of every voodoo or juju practice is the misuse of entheogens, or visionary plants. That's why they always appear to be drunk or stoned when doing their rituals. The visions are real, at least to the stoned person, but they have nothing to do with you, even if you appear in them, unless you've conditioned yourself to believe in it either through religion or culture. |
alexleo: Exactly what he is tellinng you that you keep searching for more knowledge. Accept the flaws in your ideology and stop making a porous defence. How can you search for more knowledge when you claim to have THE book of knowledge under your armpit? A book that was written by bronze age people who didn't have the knowledge of your average 7 yr old child today cannot be where one looks for knowledge. |
JMAN05: @opHow do you, a mere mammal like me, know so much? You don't even know this much about Goodluck Jonathan and he's always on TV. |
Lord_Reed: The stimulus we require to satisfy our hungers do not need to be new or different all the time. The seeking of inner peace is the same as any physical need you want to satisfy. If you believe that you have every right to consume psilocybin then why is my prayer offensive?I've never heard your prayers, so they're not offensive, at least not to me. We're talking about religion, a set of dogmas derived from ancient know-it-all handbooks. That I have a problem with because they're based on outright lies. Those authors were not sober. You see, I am convinced that the writers of the bible were inebriated with entheogens, since that practice predates even the earliest of religions. I am merely following in their footsteps. |
Lord_Reed: How many times did the water taste new? From hunger and thirst, and now to taste. Where are you going with this silliness? I don't taste water, unless it's bad water. |
Lord_Reed: How many times have you drank water in the past year?I dunno, lots. But never my own urine or sweat. What's your point? |
alexleo: Experience remains the best teacher. So what's the point of all the constant evangelism? |
Lord_Reed: Hunger does not recognize history. You ate yesterday and the day before, will you quieten your appetite with that information? I don't eat my s)hit, or regurgitated food. I eat something new. |
talk2riel: Am sorry if you are offended by my response, never meant it in that light.Haven't you ever sat and wondered why only white and pale skinned countries are developed, while EVERY SINGLE black country languishes in poverty and mediocrity? Do you know that the placebo effect is a real and observable phenomenon? Quit worshipping these white people in your heads, or at least replace the white images in your head with black ones. As a Christian, whenever I prayed to Jesus, I used to envision a white or Semitic man in my head. And then I suddenly connected that attitude with the plight of black people. It could be that we're using our minds against ourselves, sort of like a negative feedback loop. I don't have everything figured out yet, but it's unusual that NOT EVEN ONE black country is considered first world, don't you think? |
Na hellfire missile go carry dis one go see Allah. I hope he's not hanging around his children when it happens. |
Lord_Reed: We all hunger for the new and the more. Some acquire things, others feed their inner appetites. Why is the one after the inward an illegitimate pursuit? There is nothing new about religion. It's a bronze age belief system which managed to survive to the 21st century through dictatorial leaderships, torture, and widespread massacres. What you're experiencing is only the calm after the storm |
texanomaly: Why are you people awake at this hour? Its an ungodly hour. By their stripes... |
Duh! |
InesQor: Being as much God as the Father was, Jesus had legitimate concerns cos he knew just how much God detested anything that had to do with sin. These concerns make Jesus sacrifice as legitimate as any other. If he embodied just as much godliness as the father, then explain how was he unsure of being resurrected? Human fathers and their sons don't read the minds of one another, if they did, then the son in your analogy wouldn't have any doubt about his father's intentions. |
texanomaly: maybe...but don't true believers think that this life is not the end and death is just a beginning. Are true believers really afraid of death, and isn't time eternal for such a person? You mean true believers like al Qaeda, cuz they're the only ones who not only embrace death, but go willingly. Ask TB Joshua if he's ready to meet the Lord in 30 minutes and see how many excuses he produces. |
Theists deny phenomena that defy the imagination, except those that legitimize the bible or their holy book. For example, the spontaneous genesis of the universe out of nothing is dismissed as irrational and incompatible with reality, when the process itself could be an unknown 'spiritual' phenomenon. So a conscious God is proposed as the ONLY possible piece of the puzzle. But they're willing to assume that this God itself has no beginning, as irrational as that sounds. So theists don't really believe in spiritual things, just the ones that validate their holy books. |
aManFromMars: I'll post a question I posed to TomboGodson/joshTheFirst sometime back.Precisely, the certainty of being resurrected diminishes the whole 'sacrifice.' In your Boko Haram scenario, the person being 'killed' would have literally tricked the kidnappers. |
You mean inexplicable things like the universe emerging out of nothing or creating itself? Or do you have a particular inexplicable thing in mind? |
If Mikel scores, France will just abandon the match and concede defeat. |
That small Frenchman carry power in his leg o. Petit velo. |
This s)hit will end in penalties, making it even more unbearable to watch. |
Oduduwaboy: *smiling* He kept them for repentance ni !Possibly. |
That psalm was written by a foolish person. According to that logic, Muslims are not fools because they believe in allah. But the Muslim will face the same consequences as the 'foolish' atheist. Is there a mental aptitude test in hell? Do they put all the fools in one section, and the smart people in another? |
This guy sounds like he has a mountain of doubt about his own religion. You're like the fanatic gay basher, secretly craving a dose of c) ock yourself. Muslims believe in God and yet they are going to your hell along with the 'foolish' atheists, of what use then is intelligence to your God? |
jayriginal: Would have been much easier for the Lord to create a splash screen all over nairaland declaring his indignation.Doesn't fit his style of ambiguity. He prefers to do things that have perfectly reasonable explanations. For example, during Katrina, the evangelicals said that New Orleans was paying for their sins. But one of the few places that remained undamaged was the ashawo district. |
Rhymeyjohn: What's your purpose on earth if there is no God Please sir, direct and short answers. The purpose of life is death. Only living things die. But your question is deceptive. It gives the impression that your religion is true if the answer is unknown. We both don't know if GEJ is wearing socks right this minute. If a third person comes and says that he's wearing orange socks, do we accept his answer because we both don't know? Or do you tell him to STFU, that all three of us don't know? |
