Out of curiousity, I logged in the account number in my existing bank account with another bank and saw that the details of the account that emerged were my last name and first name. It would appear an account was opened in 'my name' without any input from me.

Six individuals have been arrested in Anambra, Nigeria, on charges of gang raping a 19-year-old girl in Anam, Anambra West Local Government Area. The incident took place when the victim visited her maternal home in Oramaetiti and was ambushed by the boys.
According to the victim, despite her pleas, the suspects forcibly took her into a room where they took turns raping her. Shockingly, one of the perpetrators filmed the assault. The victim was eventually rescued by neighbors who heard her cries for help, after which she returned home safely.
However, on her way back home, the victim encountered another group of boys who harassed her, threatened her life, and demanded that she remove her pants. The boys fled with her undergarments after a Good Samaritan intervened.
The victim's mother disclosed that her daughter was the third victim of these criminals, who have gained notoriety for raping girls and collecting their undergarments for ritual purposes. She called on the state government to take the case seriously, as her daughter's life is at risk, especially since her pants have not been recovered.
Confirming the incident, Ify Obinabo, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, stated that the suspects have been arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka, where they will face charges.
Obinabo expressed her concern over the alarming rate of crime among delinquents in Anambra and urged parents and guardians not to spare disciplinary measures, emphasizing the importance of addressing such issues.

While giving an update on its investigation of the viral video, the police spokesman, Ajayi Okasanmi SP in a statement said the victims who were burnt beyond recognition, were herders aged 10 and 12 years old.
“This was revealed by the father of the victims, who was accompanied by Mohammed Oni Anishere, the chairman of the Oro-Ago vigilante group, Mumini Usman; the leader of the vigilante in Oko, Chief Olukosi of Oke-Oyan; and Idris Male, also of Oke-Oyan.
“The command wishes to confirm that lightning killed two young people, but they were not kidnappers as amplified in the viral video,” Okasanmi said.
He however did not give any details on the circumstances that led to the incident...
In furtherance of its fight against criminality and other forms of crimes in the state, the a Anambra State Police Command has intercepted and captured a three-man robbery gang that specializes in snatching vehicles from individuals on gunpoint.
The suspects were identified as Ebuka Madu (aged 22 years, from Umunze in Anambra State); Chinedu Godwin (aged 23 years, from Enugu State); and Udegbunam Chikezie (aged 18 years, from Neni); and were arrested on Saturday night by a security patrol team, comprising the police and the local vigilante.
According to a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, the suspects were ambushed and apprehended at Neni, in Anaocha Local Government Area of the State after they had snatched a tricycle from its owner around the Agu-Awka Axis of Awka, the capital city of the State.
He said the security operatives laid the ambushment on the robbery gang after they got information from police officers in Awka, who alerted them that the gang members just robbed someone of his tricycle and were fleeing towards the Anaocha Area.
The Police Spokesperson, DSP Ikenga, also revealed that the stolen tricycle was recovered from the gang, as well as two guns with which they did they were robbed people; among other exhibits.
“One Baretta Pistol and one locally-made Chief Revolver Pistol, twelve rounds of life, and one expended ammunition were recovered from the three-man gang. The Tricycle has also been recovered,” he said.
DSP Ikenga added that the State's Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has assured members of the Public and Ndi Anambra that the confidence reposed in the Command for the maintenance of law and order and pursuit of justice shall not be taken for granted.
He said the CP had also directed that the suspects be arraigned in court after a diligent investigation; while also warning others to desist from crime or be ready for the consequences associated with it.
