Yorubas Are Not Our Problem—Benjamin Kalu

by Adedapo Adesanya
July 17, 2023

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Benjamin Kalu, has called on Igbos to make efforts to end insecurity in the South East, stating that Yorubas are not the problem of Igbos.

The lawmaker lamented the loss suffered by the region from Mondays’ sit-at-home directive of a non-state actor like the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), saying a special study carried out in the South-east has revealed that in the last two years, the region has lost about N4 trillion to insecurity.

“In the last two years, we have lost N4 trillion due to the unrest in Southeast. This rising development has caused us a lot as we keep losing business investment to the constant sit at home.

“We will tour Igboland to bring calmness to the region. Insecurity remains a major problem in the East; the Yorubas are not our problem.

“We are our problem in the East,”
he said at the annual all-markets conference in Lagos organised by Ndigboamaka Progressive Markets Association.

He said that insecurity in the South-east is discouraging investment in the region, expressing worry at this continuing trend and pleaded with the Igbos not to lay blame on any other region or other Nigerians.

Mr Kalu said the activities of criminal elements in the region were collapsing their economic growth due to a quest that “will not benefit the people both in the short term and in the long term.”

The federal lawmaker also said called for cooperation between Igbos and Yorubas, noting that they should work together to buoy the nation’s economy by working together to ensure peace and harmony between the two tribes.

“When you build 100 houses in Lagos, build at least 50 in your home. No one said migration could not be reversed. Migration can be reversed and people from Lagos can go to Igboland to buy goods.

“The constant killing, and kidnapping, among others happening in the southeast, are not helping us. We need to readjust and arrange our home. This is not our identity. Igbos are not known for violence.

“We must rise with one voice and denounce this ugly situation in our land. I’m pained that we are no longer safe in the land that our forefathers gave us.

“We now sojourn in diaspora, giving our children out in marriage in a foreign land,” Mr Kalu added.

Popular investigative journalist, David Hundeyin is currently detained in Zimbabwe shortly after his arrival at Harare Airport.

In a post on his Twitter handle on Wednesday, he wrote "I landed in Zimbabwe earlier today, and I have been detained at Harare Airport inside a smelly locked room for nearly 7 hours".

"They said that despite using the travel document of a country with a visa-free relationship, my nationality is still Nigerian, and thus, I need a visa".

"I was processed for removal from their country and locked in a tiny room, but I have heard nothing from anyone for several hours".

"Alongside a lady from Uganda (also a visa-free country), I have been locked in a room with no windows or toilet, plus a bottle of pee on the floor".

"No one appears to be in charge of anything, and even though my return flight to Addis has been rescheduled for tonight, I am still locked in this room, and I risk missing my flight.

They appear to have forgotten that they have people in detention here".

Kingman20221:
Godwill Dike, erstwhile General Manager Commercial of Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) has been accused of beating up his staff, detaining and dehumanising him for three days in his flat after accusing him of stealing a flash drive from his home computer.

Sheidu Ozovehe who worked as a cleaner for Mr Dike explained that on June 12, 2021, Mr Dike requested that he come to his flat to clean. After he was done, he left the house and returned home. Two days later, on the 14th, he was summoned to the Dike's residence in Maitama. Not suspecting Mr Dike’s sinister plan, he went to the house.

“Immediately I got into the house, the doors were locked and I was manhandled. I was confused and kept asking what I had done, it was then Mr Dike accused me of stealing a flash drive. I answered that I had nothing to do with the missing flash drive and I definitely did not see it as I was cleaning. But my pleas fell on deaf ears instead my words seemed to infuriate him further.

He ordered that I be stripped naked and cold water was poured on me in his air conditioned and cold home. I was tortured in this state for three days. The police were called and after they conducted their investigation, they they concluded I did not steal the flash drive as my fingerprint was not found on Dike's home computer. Confirming my innocence in the whole matter. It was after this that Mr Dike let me go.

After one week, and while I was treating myself and trying to recuperate from injuries inflicted on me in this ordeal, Mr Dike sent his driver named Shuaibu to send me N250,000. I guess this was his way of apologising and compensating for my ordeal. But I immediately returned the money to Shuaibu. All I want is justice because Mr Dike dehumanised me. He made me feel less than a human being. I did not deserve the treatment meted out to me,” Sheidu revealed in a recent statement.

Sheidu also explained that his treatment in the hands of Mr Dike has caused him many sleepless nights and he still suffers from PTSD from how he was beaten by Dike and his accomplices.

This is coming after Mr Dike was dragged before an Abuja High Court on a N1.6billion lawsuit for defamatory publications he allegedly made damaging the reputation of his former colleagues while he was the GM Commercial of NLNG. It has also been revealed that Godwill Dike whilst on international assignment in Jakarta, Indonesia around 2011 was engaged in a physical fight with an Indonesian citizen causing him grevious bodily harm. Mr Dike was arrested by the Indonesian police but was spared imprisonment by the swift intervention of the Nigerian embassy in Jakarta.

He was subsequently made to pay compensation to the Indonesian man and was asked to leave the country bringing to an abrupt and inglorious end his international assignment in that country to the embarrassment of his employers and country. Why a man with such a violent disposition was made a General Manager Commercial of Nigeria LNG Limited remains unexplained.

Crime › Re: Suspect: I Did Not Steal The Car, I Only Drove It From Abuja To Delta by Wealthoptulent(m): 6:01pm On Jul 18, 2023
IslamIsIdiotic:
A 25-year-old arrested car thief suspect, Meshach Isinugo a.k.a Big Shark, has denied the allegation of stealing a Mercedes Benz from a car dealer, saying that he only drove the car from Abuja to Delta State.

PUNCH Metro reported, a car dealer, Mohammed Manga reported that a customer, Henry, absconded with one of his cars, a Mercedes Benz GLB 250 vehicle worth over N55m in the Abuja area of the Federal Capital Territory during a test drive.

Big Shark said he decided to quickly use the car when the dealer, who sat in the passenger seat during test driving, didn’t return quickly after stepping out for cash withdrawal to buy fuel in a filling station, Nigerian Tribune reported on Tuesday.

The state Commissioner of Police, Wale Abass, at a press briefing, said that before the suspect’s arrest, the command received a complaint from a car dealer in Abuja, simply identified as Rilwan, on July 3 that a vehicle, a Mercedes Benz saloon car 2021 model, was stolen from his car stand by Big Shark who disguised as an intending buyer. The dealer told the police that the suspect absconded with the said vehicle during a test drive on June 30.

“Armed with available intelligence, operatives of the CP Decoy Squad stormed Ughelli town at about 0115hours (1:15 am) of 3/7/2023 and recovered the said Mercedes Benz abandoned in a bush along Oteri Road by Doctors Quarters Ughelli North Local Government Area,” the CP said.

The suspect, who gave a bit of his background said that Big Shark was a childhood nickname that he grew up with.

Big Shark said, “I’m from Ughelli in Delta State, but I live in Abuja. I’m into foreign exchange and bureau de change business. I have been doing this since when I was seven. I started along that line when I was in secondary school. My business is at Istanbul Airport, Turkey, so I used to shuttle between there and Nigeria. I started it there in 2021. “I was arrested on July 6 for car theft after I was tracked by the police. Actually, I moved the car, from Abuja to Delta State.

“I didn’t steal the car, but it was not mine. What happened was that I got the owner’s contact from an online platform (name withheld). He posted the car’s picture on the platform, putting it up for sale. When I called him to indicate an interest, he told me to come for the car inspection. He was also Abuja-based and the location he invited me to was at Garki.

“I saw the car, and the intending seller put the price at N58 million. I offered to pay N30 million and he said I should test-drive it so that I would know the value of what I was pricing. He gave me the car key and sat on the passenger seat.

“When we got to a filling station, he asked me to pull over as he needed to buy fuel for the car. He told me to wait so that he would go and get some cash to buy the fuel. I waited for his return for three hours but he was nowhere to be found, and I was already causing a queue at the filling station. I called his line several times but it was switched off. It was already dusk so I drove to my residence at almost 8 pm. My phone had gone flat then, so I charged it when I got home and called him again. His line was switched off.

The following day, I drove down to Delta for a business. That same day, I saw my picture that he posted on the internet, calling me a car thief. His call also came in and he told me he had informed the police and they were tracking the car. This made me to be mad at him. It was crazy. I switched off my line known to him and started using my other line.

"My uncle saw me with the car and he asked me about it. I told him how the car came by and he got mad and slapped me. He said he would not allow me to drive the car but would report it at a police station. I ran from him because he assaulted me. I was eventually arrested in Benin, Edo State. I didn’t steal the car, I only drove it from Abuja to Delta. If I were the car dealer, I would just look for a way to get the car back. That would work.”

According to the police, the suspect has been transferred to Abuja where the act was perpetrated.

Politics › Re: Gowon To Obi, Atiku: Allow Tribunal, Supreme Court Do Its Work by Wealthoptulent(m): 5:34pm On Jul 18, 2023
phylshan:
As legal fireworks begin on petitions challenging the outcome of the 2023 presidential election, former military Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, yesterday, implored aggrieved candidates to allow the judiciary to decide their fate.

Gowon, who was a special guest at the 15th Edition of Punuka Annual Lecture and Symposium, organised in honour of a late Justice of the Supreme Court, Chike Idigbe, urged the petitioners and Nigerians to accept the decisions of the tribunal in good faith.

He said: “As a nation, we have come a long way since our independence in 1960, and we have faced many challenges along the way- to put it moderately.

“It is no secret that the judiciary plays a vital role in nation-building and in keeping us united as a nation.

“The judiciary, in essence, is the guardian of the constitution and the rule of law. The judiciary provides a check on the powers of the executive and legislative branches and ensures that the rights and freedoms of the citizens are protected through the instrumentality of the court.

“The judiciary serves as the bedrock of our democracy, and it is only through a strong, independent and impartial judiciary that we can ensure the protection of our democracy and the advancement of our nation.

“The judiciary has overtime maintained its enviable status as the beacon of hope for our democracy, serving as the balance between every class and truly the hope of the common man.

“As we move forward as a nation, let us not forget the role that the judiciary plays in nation-building, especially the apex court in carrying out its duty of questioning the veracity of the decisions of the lower courts.

“As such we need to allow the apex court, their deliberations and come up with their decisions and as the public to be humble enough to accept their decision as final in order to maintain the sanctity of the judiciary as individuals and institutions.

“This is very important at this stage in view of the post-election litigations that are now going on.
“Let us give the judiciary the opportunity to do that work and let us accept their decision as it is.”
While eulogising the late jurist, who served as a Chief Judge in the defunct Republic of Biafra before he was recalled back to the Supreme Court in 1975, Gowon maintained that his unwavering commitment to upholding justice and the rule of law was a testament to his unflinching character and belief in the nation.

“Justice Idigbe’s life and work on and off the Bench exemplify the ideals of integrity, courage, and service.

“His unwavering dedication to justice and fairness has been a source of inspiration to many, and his legacy will continue to live on for generations to come”, he added.

Politics › Re: We Can’t Release Tinubu’s Criminal Cases, Immigration Records Till 2026 - FBI by Wealthoptulent(m): 5:32pm On Jul 18, 2023
PointB:
We can’t release Tinubu’s criminal cases, immigration records till 2026 due to ‘unusual circumstances’, FBI, State Department say

The agencies have been summoned to appear in court to show course why records relating to a Nigerian president were deemed unusual to be released to the public.

President Bola Tinubu’s criminal and immigration records in possession of the United States won’t be released until 2026, authorities said in court documents seen by Peoples Gazette.

The U.S. State Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation cited ‘unusual circumstances’ for denying to release the records to the public. Following a freedom of information request, the U.S. authorities said even if they were to release the records, it would be at least until January 2026 before they could do so.

A civil lawsuit has now been filed over the matter before Judge Beryl Howell of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia in Washington, D.C.

Aaron Greenspan, an American public disclosure activist, had filed a request to the FBI, State Department, Department of Treasury, and Drug Enforcement Administration, among federal and local agencies, seeking an urgent release of Mr Tinubu’s immigration and criminal records.

The filings came as Mr Tinubu maintained in court that he did not commit any crimes during his decades-long residency in the U.S. Mr Tinubu also asserted ownership of his identity, despite strong indications, he might have changed names and education records in the past.

Mr Tinubu’s real identity and education records contain omissions and contradictions that he has not explained to the public. For instance, the Nigerian president had said under oath to the electoral office INEC, while seeking to be Lagos governor in 1999, that he attended the prestigious University of Chicago.

The university has since disowned Mr Tinubu. Another American school, Chicago State University, confirmed a Bola Tinubu attended the school but did not say whether it was the Nigerian president. Documents from the school showed that a person bearing Bola Tinubu, who attended the school in the 1970s, was a female.

Mr Tinubu also stated under oath in 1999 that he attended primary and secondary schools in Lagos and Ibadan in the 1950s and 1960s, but he expunged those assertions from his latest INEC application form ahead of this year’s general elections in February. He did not explain why he removed the claims, although there was no evidence that the primary school he said he attended ever existed in Nigeria.

Mr Tinubu, 71, was named as a launderer of proceeds of drug trafficking in U.S. court documents in 1993. He forfeited $460,000 at the time.

The records formed a key part of an ongoing challenge to Mr Tinubu’s election as president of Nigeria before a tribunal hearing election petitions in Abuja. This prompted Mr Greenspan, who runs PlainSite, a website that holds files from American courts and institutions, to file multiple requests to U.S. authorities in possession of documents that could help clarify some of the crucial questions upsetting Nigerian minds.

The State Department is believed to have records of whether or not the person who applied for a U.S. visa and travelled as Bola Tinubu in the 1970s is the same person running Nigeria today.

The FBI could throw more light on how Mr Tinubu became involved in drugs in the U.S. and other criminal charges that he might have faced but which were not in public records.

“This office will not be able to respond within the 20 days provided by the statute due to unusual circumstances,” the State Department said in a May 15, 2023, letter to Mr Greenspan.

Previously on August 4, 2022, the FBI sent a message to Mr Greenspan, saying: “Please be advised that ‘unusual circumstances’ apply to the processing of your request.”

But on March 22, 2023, the FBI said it would try to release all documents relating to Mr Tinubu in its possession, but not until January 2026 at the earliest. Other agencies, including the Department of Treasury’s Internal Revenue Service and the Drug Enforcement Administration, also said they wouldn’t release the documents on the same grounds.

The FBI also said Mr Greenspan “failed to demonstrate that the requested information is in the public interest because it is likely to contribute significantly to public understanding of the operations and activities of the government.” But the activist promptly responded by detailing how Mr Tinubu’s drug forfeiture case in Chicago drew the most eyes to his organisation’s website over the past year. The website has over 15 million records.

All the agencies have now been summoned to appear in court to show course why records relating to a Nigerian president were deemed unusual and inconsequential to be released to the public.

On July 17, assistant U.S. attorney Jared Littman entered an appearance as the lawyer representing all the agencies, and promptly requested a delay until August 28, 2023, to file a response to the lawsuit, which was instituted on June 12, 2023.

There is a silent wave of jubilation within the camp of the waziri Adamawa.

Following strong indications that the judiciary is poised to act boldly and independently, and coupled with the glaring loopholes in the presentation of INEC APC AND TINUBU lawyer at the presidential election tribunal, THE FIRST RUNNER UP ,WHO HAPPENS TO BE ATIKU, WILL INEVITABLY BE DECLARED PRESIDENT.

even a kindergarten kid knows the 2023 yakubu mamoud general election was the biggest scam of the 21st century .
