You can check through my post, I never used wikipedia source, except this one time. And the reason why was because I just want to push the point across and there are limited source out there addressing the subject on the internet. One good source I have is the title "Scramble for Africa" by Thomas Pakenham in hard copy.

From the source you provided, the only connection between Old Calabar and Igboland was a that lot of slaves were taken from Igbo hinterland and transported through Old Calabar has seen in this excerpt

"The delta of the Niger River (in present day Nigeria) was initially called "Oil Rivers", not because the area was a producer of "black gold", but, because at the time, the delta was a large producer of palm oil. (Ironically, the area did become a large oil producing region in the 1950s.) The delta came under British rule in 1885, the "Oil Rivers Protectorate". Per the bolded, the region know as Oil River Protectorate was not limited to the goofy south-south lexicon in today's Nigerian polity. Most Nigerians are calibrated dunce. In fact, the Oil in the Oil River Protectorate had nothing to do with the crude oil but palm oil. In addition, there were two rivers that gave rise to the Oil River Protectorate, thus, Imo and Qua Iboe Rivers.
