Residents of Faith Avenue, Woji Port Harcourt are thanking God for sparing their lives, this morning, from what seemed to be fire from illegal oil bunkering activities by oil thieves, at the Faith Avenue Woji waterfront this morning.

At about 5am this morning, residents were seen evacuating their belongings to a safe place.

Investigation shows that the oil thieves emerge with their boats loaded with stolen petroleum product from the creeks and make their way to Faith Avenue Waterfront, Woji, Port Harcourt, to a waiting petroleum tanker truck. The product is pumped into the tanker truck through a locally fabricated pipeline as shown in the attached photo. The tanker then disappears with the product into the cloak of the night, haven settled from police to any other threat to the operations. All these take place between 11pm to 4am, almost on a daily basis. Faith Avenue in Woji is very strategic because of its location, as it leads straight from the water front to the major Woji road with a gate at the Woji road end, and a slope towards the waterfront. The flip side of it is that it is densely populated and should anything go wrong while loading into the tanker, there will be a disaster.

However, in the early hours of this morning (2-4am), a boat loaded with stolen oil was set ablaze by hoodlums who were not "carried along". The inferno cause panic in the neighborhood as the massive fire ravaged the waterfront. Families were seen evacuation their belonging for fear that the fire may spread. It took the effort of the fire fighters from the Total fire service to put out the fire.

Normalcy has returned to the neighbourhood but the infrastructure and pipeline of the oil thieves is still intact. Meaning, catastrophe may have been averted today but no one knows what tomorrow will bring to residents of Faith Avenue, Woji, Port Harcourt.

The residents are appealing to the relevant authorities to come to their aid and dismantle and destroy the activities of these thieves including their infrastructure.
