komakan: Hello House, what did U pple understand by re-entry form? Actually, myself and family are not ready to base in America. When we get our visa my wife and children will apply for re-entry on getting to America while I will stay behind due to her Job. When we joined heads together we still prefer her Job in Nigeria because she has attained a certain level at work. Then my children will finish their secondary school in Nigeria b4 they can join me for their higher school. A friend of mine a Nigerian- American lawyer in Texas advised to do so. Hoping to Dallas in Texas.Pls can u shed more knowledge/ advise. Thanks.

Travelling outside of the United States for up to a year or more with out a re entry permit could have severe consequences as it could be determined you have abandoned your residency. Your friends advice is on point. Bear in mind re entry permits are generally valid for 2 years also if your spouse intends to apply for naturalization, staying outside the states for more than a year will break the rule of continuous residency of 5 years required. In this case, the couple can get married if they want but should be prepared to live with whatever comes out of it. it is not a do or die affair. the fact that it worked for one couple is no guarantee that it will work for the other. Having said that, the lady should realize that if they do push the married angle and it does not work, they will probably spend the rest of their married lives regretting the decision and the guy will probably blame her for all his misfortunes. the very foundation of what she is fighting for may be destroyed if they are the type that cant get over things like that easily.

A similar interview experience case was shared by a member on DV 2013. I can't recall his name but I think sometimes in August. He went for the interview alone as his spouse wasn't included in both initial entry n forms submission. He wore his wedding ring to the interview when the CO sighted the ring. Ask him if he's married ,he said yes n explained his case to him. The CO wondered..how can yu leave yur wife all cos yu won lottery..Conclusively both couple were granted visa.

I think I remember that couple from DV 2013 thread but I think they were married but the husband enter as single, I believe there is a big difference with getting married after selection.

I beg to differ, my understanding is that a passport must have 6 more validity before expiry if you're applying for ANY visa. It doesn't matter when it was issued, correct me if I am wrong.

It won't hurt to get your international passport ready ASAP, you'll only do it once.

If you meet either of these circumstances a photocopy of the marriage and/or birth certificate, along with English translations, should be provided with the completed forms. If you need to obtain additional DS 230 Parts I & II forms, you may download them at: http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/forms/forms_1342.html .

Congratilulations, having a baby after selection does not in anyway adversely affect your application, you have to download the forms again and send it to KCC with the baby's birth certificate and your application will be updated. You specifically need the DS 230 part I & II form.

Getting married after finding out you've won will make the CO suspicious, they will work you extra hard during your interview. You need to decide what you think is more important, I believe you don't want to mess up this once in a life time opportunity.

EgbonBode: The statistics is very detailed. From the statistics I am able to see why the case that are current each month are not equal. The distribution of case number is not linear. In the statistics only 18 cases are above case number greater than 20000 out of 2483 cases handled in Lagos.
I could see that about one third of cases in Lagos were refused in 2013.

Great observation, ready means your application is ready for interview, most AP cases change to ready before issued and some just remain on ready till the FY ends.

Your CN is quite high for Europe but you have hope. If your figures are correct, it means the CN range for EU in Dec is 12500 not 30000. Your CN won't be current till well into next year.

After it takes you to where it polls you confirmation out, just type only your Last name and then the authentication code should also be typed correctly. It's not case sensitive. Check fast, cos there is a 'no reschedule' rule at the Embassy for this DV2014 fiscal year.

6-8 weeks. You can call them to ask if they have received it. There is no harm in calling them, trust me, there are more paranoid people out there. They will not contact you to inform you they received your forms unless you initiate contact.

Nigeria has an exception which means even if the rest of Africa has a range really further down the lane, our exception comes into play. Nigeria is 7,500 for November so your CN will probably be current in March/April 2014.

I don't want to crush/raise any forum members hopes, please wait for the numbers to be officially announced so you can choose your reality. I have refrained from posting cut offs in the past to avoid a situation like this. I can confirm people call KCC and they give you the cut offs if they have it, it's not states secret or nothing.

Cut off was stuck at 10,000 for 2 months last year (Dec/Jan I think) It's not new!

The cut offs are available to KCC before it's posted on the website, you can call to ask and they usually tell people if the information is available to them. Just a few more days before it's officially released, you can wait for official confirmation.

You'll get the email to check for your 2NL 4-6 weeks before your interview. If you'll be current in December, you might get your 2NL next month.

It's not mandatory, you can go with it if you wish. Also, affidavit of support is not required for Nigerian applicants.
