Interesting!  huh I wonder why Seun decided to resurrect this thread, started by my whizzyself. Talking about Doctor in the house, mix a satchet of Alabunkun with raw egg (1) and fresh lime juice, all  in a cup and drink for three days ( did I hear someone say yak grin). It is a very effective cure for Typhoid fever. But you didn't hear it from me oh.

Finally, someone watched the competition smiley. Thanks for your contributions, Vongauche. I agree with you, gone are the days we have good atheletes. The Men's relay race was a flop, the women managed to qualify during the heat but unfortuanately came seventh in th final. I guess the atheletes need to do their homework in baton exchange. Also, I think the attitude of our athletes contributes to their poor performances, athletes like Justin Gatlin, Michelle Perry and the likes, spend months preparing for these competitions whereas, our athletes start preparation during qualifers to represent the country.

Small wonder, USA and other countries who worked hard for the competition had lots of medals to show. USA for instance had a total of 22 medals, Nigeria could not even win 1 bronze cry

@Vongauche, I am not sure what my PB times was, it was a long time ago, but I know I was very good 'because I represented my school in inter school competitions and always came back with medals. I didn't take up sports in the university because in addition to being very good at sports, I was also very good in academics. So I chose academics  cheesy. Maybe I should have combined both.

How the countries scored at the end of the competition ( which ended Saturday the 14th of August), coming up soon.

Day 6.

More torrential rain, but the Americans recorded more victory with Justin Gatlin winning the Men's 200m race. Justin is a very fast runner,( no he does run he "flies" ), I must also add that he is cute  wink  The  Americans also took the second, third and the Fourth positions. ( Boy, are they good)

Michelle Perry, an American  won the women’s 100m Hurdles, and Walter Davis( USA) won the Triple Jump. The US team now has nine golds.

The women's Discus was won by a Deutch,Franka Dietzch’s ( Germany), followed by Natalya Sadova of Russia. Vera Pospisilova-Cechlova of the Czech Republic won bronze.

The Pole Vault was won by Rens Blom of the Netherlands. Brad Walker( USA) came second while Marian Oprea came third.

Today is the day 7 of the competition and events scheduled to take place are the Men's 110 Hurdle, Women's Pole vault, Women's Hammer throw and Men's 400m Final.

The weather wasn't any better but it didn't deter Rashid Ramzi from winning gold in the 1500m race, though a moroccan he represented Bahrain. Adil Kaouch, a Morocan took the silver medal while Rui Silva, a Portuguese, went for bronze.

For Long jump, 19 year old Tianna Madison of the USA( 6.89m) took the gold medal, Tatyana Kotova, of Russia was second with 6.79 metres, Eunice Barber 6.76 metres settled for bronze.

@ Codec.
On the contrary, I think athletics is very exciting. Maybe I feel that way because I was deeply into it in my primary and secondary school days,I always looked forward to the yearly inter- house sports competition. I was already running both the 100m and 400m for the senior team even though I was in J.S 2. I also partook in the high jump and relay races. It was fun for me hearing people yell out my name when I take the lead. When I see Nigerian athletes mess up, wish I had taken up sports(athletics) as a career.

Talking about Nigeria not having stars any more, Uchenna Emedolu and Olusoji Fasuba have crashed out of the Men's 100m. Mercy Nku and Endurance Ojokolo are nothing to wirte home about. It is a shame, I must say.

@ Remedy

Thanks for the compliment, I'd try my best to keep you informed.
SportsRe: 10th IAAF World Championship in Athletics - Helsinki 2005 by whizkid(op): 10:29am On Aug 10, 2005
The weather at Helsinki was terrible yesterday as it rained heavily. Some of the field events, such as the women's Discus final, were postponed to a later date.  Here are the hightlights of the competition that took place irespective of the heavy downpour.

1.The last track final of the night, the men's 400 metres Hurdles, took place after the rain had eased out, Felix Sanchez, whose bid to win a third World title came to an end as he crashed out of the competition because of his leg injury. Yet the torrential downpour did not dampen the delight of winner Bershawn Jackson (USA)( 47.30) and the two other medallists, James Carter ( USA) and Dai Tamesue, of Japan.

2. Saif Shaheen( Qatar)( 8min 13.31sec) was successful in his title defence in the 3,000 metres Steeplechase, Ezekiel Kemboi( Kenya) came second while Brimin Kipruto  took the bronze medal.

3. In the women's 800 metres, Zulia Calatyud( Cuba) a new comer( as in never won any championship before) took the Gold medal. The world champion, Maria Mutola, of Mozambique, unfortunately was no where near the medals table, she took the fourth position. Morocco’s Olympic silver medallist Hasna Benhassi came second while Russia’s Tatyana Andrianova came third.

Like I said before the women's Discus throw was postponed, other competitions that managed to take place inspite of the weather were the Men's decathletes races 400m & 100m. Sorry, I do not have a low down of who won what as my eyes were closing.

More action continues today, day 5 of the competition. Hope the weather today will be better.

Jokes EtcRe: $10+$10+$10=$29? Who can solve this? by whizkid(f): 3:06pm On Jul 06, 2005
Thank you matrix, you got that right. Mamba was just trying to confuse us, they paid $25 not $27. Meaning that it is possible that not everyone paid in the same proportion, Not to use decimals, try this proportion, 9+8+8=25 plus the $2 tip. If you add every thing together, it means they actually spent $27 and not $30 or $29 from Mamba's calculation. But it is also possible that they funded the bill ( tip inclusive) in the ratio 1:1:1, 1.e they all had to spend $9 each.
PhonesSMS Spam on Vmobile Nigeria (& other networks) by whizkid(op): 2:34pm On Jul 06, 2005
This is a warning!

A friend of mine received an SMS saying that he stands a chance of wining N750, if he forwards same text to 10 people on the Vmobile network. Thinking that he had nothing to lose, he spends N150 and gains N600 in return, he started texting away.

3 days later, he got an SMS from Vmobile saying " Dear subscriber, if you receive an SMS asking you to send to 10 people on the Vmobile network and get N750 worth of airtime, please ignore it as it is not from Vmobile".

This is not the first time something like this is happening, I wonder what the network providers are doing about this. If you ask me, I think it is a ploy to rip off their customers, afterall who stands to benefit from all that text messages sent by innocent victims; your guess is as good as mine. wink

PhonesMTN Flash! by whizkid(op): 5:51pm On Jun 30, 2005
When MTN introduced MTN Flash- a value added service, I thought to myself, wow at last, MTN is doing something for free but I cannot really say that I have enjoyed service. I need someone to call me urgently, I am low on credit so, I send him/her an MTN flash but unfortunately the he/she does not get it until like one week later shocked. Sometimes you send someone an MTN flash and two weeks later the person gives you a call saying "yes you just flashed me".What is that?

What is/are the benefit(s) of this service? Is it just me or has anyone really enjoyed this MTN Flash service?

I used mts 1st wireless between sept 2004 and may 2005. I have dumped them now.  they are also located on Kudirat Abiola way (Oregun road).  they have internet service which goes for N7,500 monthly for 24-7 access. its is the cheapest I know of.  for more info, go to: http://naijainternetconnections..com/ and http://groups.yahoo.com/group/naijainternetconnections

hope this was of any help!
Can you please tell us why you "dumped" your MTS line. Does it have any thing to do with poor services, you mentioned that their internet services is the cheapest you know, what's their rate, I think the brother would like to know all these to help in decide if he can go ahead and buy one.

The only problem I think MTS has for now is not enough coverage.

Interesting! Most people want to reconcile with the Almighty, knowing that their time on earth is up. At least it shows that a lot of people know that a God exists, who will cast sinners to perpetual hell and faithfuls to ever-lasting life in heaven. But remember, you might not be lucky to know your last day on earth, so do the right thing knowing it will end anytime.

P.S Hell is real.

Greatpeter:
You could remember that Nigeria is the African champions beating Morocco 6 months ago in Benin Republic in the semi-final.  Nigeria came from behind two times to level up and eventually won on penalty kicks.  The Moroccans are talking tough; they have vowed to revenge their lost to Nigeria 6 months ago.

Predict!  What will today look like?
Yes oh! the Morrocans  definitely won't be an easy nut to crack. The flying eagles should not loose concentration as it has always been the case with them. I see them winning the match, they have a good coach who motivates them in any way he can, by the way, give it up for Coach Samson Siasia, he donated his bonus to the players just to motivate them.

My prediction? 3-1 in favour of Nigeria of course.

if you are still sexually inexperienced like you said on another board ["virgins rule"] then you obviously cherish the sanctity of your body so I really don't see how anyone can sit back and "enjoy" being violated...
... how old did you say you were again?...
Very well said my dear, I wonder what people open there mouth to say without thinking about how intelligible it will sound. How can rape be a call of nature when we are not lower class animals. As a matter of fact, any one that does that is of the same class as common animals.

The flying eagles of Nigeria made it through to the quarter finals of the U-20 world youth championship competition by beating Ukraine 1-0. They will meet Holland, which of course will not be an easy win beacuse Holland is a strong team. They beat Chilli by 3-0 to qualify for the quarter finals.

There is nothing wrong with checking your spouse's sms, you'll probably be wasting your time. For you to be checking means that you don't trust him/her or you have your suspicions about him/her, so If he is a smooth operator like I suspect most people that cheat on there partners are, you would find nothing incriminating.

You just need to pray or better still divorce him/her, cos' they are dyed-in-the-wool.

I think it is gambling with 'style', it is synonymous with playing pool, but if you are going to try it out, you should have self control, so you don't get addicted.

The show would be aired on both local and cable stations, no idea when it will kick off but I have my ears close to the ground. grin
