I started looking for answer to this same question after suffering from the trials and errors of several roadside mechanics. But when I typed it on Google, I was directed to Nairaland where I found that the question was asked before by Awkabigboy sometimes in December 2021. You can find it under the link below: https://www.nairaland.com/6892238/why-dont-mechanical-engineer-graduates Unfortunately, after going through the comment sections, I noticed that the answer has not been clearly stated for a layman to understand. I noticed how some mechanical engineering students were attacking the OP saying that their job is to build and maintain cars. Most of them said that it's the job of technicians and craftsmen to fix spoiled cars. Then I asked myself, since mechanical engineers are not designing or building anything in Nigeria, why not join the technicians in fixing cars? What is the essence of the SIWES and ITs they undergo during studies? No doubt, virtually all Nigerian academic curriculums need revamp as far as practical application of knowledge is concerned. But I was wondering, could it be that our mechanical engineers are not understanding what they're being taught to be confident enough to at least fix minor issues? Please I need sincere response from our mechanical engineers in the house! |

This is a quick, hurried response. A friend just called my attention to a news story in today's Daily Trust about the FUTO branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) saying Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami’s appointment as “professor” of cybersecurity followed due process and that external assessors (whom they didn’t name) found his publications to be worthy of “promointment” (my coinage for promotion and/or appointment since the dolts at FUTO can’t decide what they have done) to the rank of professor. These guys are comedians. Only that their comedy is humorless and fraudulent. Here are the issues. FUTO’s registrar had told the Nigerian Tribune that Pantami told FUTO that he was an “associate professor” at the Islamic University in Madinah before his relocation to Nigeria, and that Pantami's promointment to a fraudfessorship in cybersecurity was a consequence of his last academic position. But Pantami lied, and FUTO is either too feckless or too compromised to catch his obvious lie. In the last article he wrote while at the Islamic University in Madinah in January 2016 titled “The Importance of Identity Management Systems in Developing Countries” (which he co-authored with a Yusuf Abubakar at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University) before resigning and taking up a government appointment, he self-identified as “Asst Professor,” which is the short form of “Assistant Professor.” One Dr. Abdulaziz Tijjani called attention to the disconnect between Pantami’s last article before he accepted a government position where he identified his rank as “Asst Professor” and his fraudulent edit of his Researchgate profile to indicate that he was an “Associate Professor.” Here’s the screenshot of the article which, by the way, is a garbage-in-garbage-out, pay-to-play, predatory article with zero editing or peer review. And that leads to me to the next point, which FUTO’s incompetent and compromised ASUU panel glossed over in their so-called “investigation.” And that is that they did not officially write to the Islamic University of Madinah that supposedly promoted Pantami to the rank of associate professor after only two years of teaching there. Well, I wrote to the university. Although I’m yet to get a formal response from the management of the school after two attempts, perhaps because I’m an individual, I did get across to some of Pantami’s former colleagues. They confirmed to me that Pantami’s last rank at the university was an “Assistant Professor” and that he hadn’t qualified to be promoted to the next rank because he hadn’t met the minimum requirements. To be promoted to an associate professor at the school, they told me, you need a minimum of four peer-reviewed SCOPUS-indexed journal articles. Pantami had zero. Hs articles were published in predatory journals, which are worthless in all decent schools. Some of Pantami’s colleagues are still assistant professors as I write this. His former department has a list of faculty publications on its website, which one of his former colleagues directed me to. I checked the years 2014 through 2016. None of Pantami’s fraudulent articles was listed there, obviously because they aren’t peer-reviewed or published in SCOPUS-indexed journals. So, which publications of Pantami’s did FUTO’s external assessors evaluate? The same 10 publications on Google Scholar 80 percent of which are self-evidently low-quality, poorly edited, predatory journal articles that no self-respecting university would accept as scholarship? FUTO’s fraud is way worse than we think. I think it has truly earned my rechristening it as Fraudsters’ University of Technology! The obviously rubber-stamped ASUU panel reportedly “strongly recommends that the University management should as a matter of urgency take appropriate actions, including legal action, against those who deliberately try to drag the image and reputation of FUTO to the mud.” Hahaha! FUTO dragged its reputation to the mud all by itself unaided. These guys are obviously not just comical frauds, they are also pitifully lowbrow illiterates! Sue people for calling out daylight intellectual fraud? In what planet do these philistines live? OK, I am waiting for their lawsuit. Please, please and pretty please, sue me! |

Hey you.. Stop talking nonsense. Are there no educated people here that can read through the lines? ![]() Nobody can justify the evil deeds of that woman. No one can also justify the Ordinary President's misdeeds. But the point of departure here is that a lot of people barking towards the Ordinary President don't seem to have the perfect picture of what is evolving. Let's keep yesterday's video aside. That was an old show digged by Sahara Reporters (whose CEO, Sowore is mischievously anti-Berekete Family). The whole thing lies in media and political gang up against Berekete Family. The Media gang up is championed by BBC (whose image is tainted black in the UK) for the sole reason of competing with Bereke Family on two major grounds: 1. Media Popularity. 2. British Neocolonialism. Knowing fully well that Berekete Family has a wide coverage and dominant influence on the media space in Nigeria, BBC is looking for every means possible to bring Berekete Family (plus other local media) down so as to gain dominance. Now ask yourself, why is BBC fighting for popularity in Nigeria? You must not be a graduate to know that British was Nigeria's colonial master. Sadly, even after granting Nigeria "flag" independence in 1960, Nigeria is still under the spell of British and external rule. So in order to continue ruling Nigeria indirectly (neocolonialism), BBC must dominate the media space of Nigeria and continue to misform Nigerians with inconsistent and unreliable information. This is so easy because BBC already knows the level of illiteracy in Nigeria. BBC already knows that even the so-called graduates in Nigeria are half-baked. So its so easy to deceive as many Nigerians with any information. To this end, different strategies have been employed by BBC. Recalled that BBC had to copy Bereke Family's media tune by coming up with "BBC Pidgin" in order to target as many "ordinary" (or potentially gullible) audience as possible. Although there are other local media channels that are also gagging up against Bereke Family, but since BBC is the sponsor of the "slap" viral video, I limit my "media" explanation on it. Now on the second factor, you already know what Berekete Family stands for: "Justice for the common man". This is not what our misleaders want to hear. This is not what any evil perpetrator wants to hear. But remarkably, Berekete Family has exposed as many injustice and corrupt acts of our misleaders that makes it one of the major targets of political witch-hunt. Whether you like it or not, it was not BBC or Sahara Reporters' viral video that informed NBC sanctioned. Except you're going so low. Wake up! But as someone that's more exposed, sophisticated and educated with Nigeria's consistent socioeconomic and political decay, I must be frank to tell you that it is the political class that sanctioned Berekete Family through proxy. Take it or leave it! This is just my 2 cent to help those with myopic and ill-informed perspective have a better understanding on what's going on, shaping your minds for critical reasoning. Thanks. ![]() |
