Alabukun, one of the oldest drugs in Nigeria and even is still very relevant and popular today.

However, not many know the Jacob Odulate aka Blessed Jacob, a Nigerian pharmacist, inventor and entrepreneur and the brain behind the brand that has remained relevant selling in all parts of Nigeria, Benin republic, Cameroon, Ghana and some parts of Europe.

1.Jacob Sogboyega Odulate aka Blessed Jacob was born into a polygamous family in 1884.

2.He was originally from Ikorodu in Lagos State but later moved to the neighbouring Ogun State.

3.At age 14, he trekked for three months from Ikorodu before reaching Abeokuta to establish himself.

4. Blessed Jacob managed to create a brand from what served as his consulting room and workshop in Abeokuta. His modest headquarters was at the Sapon Area, not far from where he later built his famous three-storey building in Ijemo Agbadu.

5.In 1918, he invented the legendary Alabukun powder which is now a hit in the world’s most populous nation and in other West African nations.

6.He sent his children to study at some of the best universities in Durham, Newcastle, United States of America and London. e.g Mrs. Folake Odulate (later to become Chief. Mrs. Folake Solanke) who is the first female lawyer in Nigeria to wear the silk and she also became the first female Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). In 1966, she established the first law firm by a Nigerian female at Ibadan, Oyo State and named it Alabukun Chambers in honour of her great father.

7. Apart from making the drugs, the energetic Blessed Jacob also produced other brands like Alabukun mentholine, other preparations and an annual journal called Alabukun Almanac which was widely distributed in Abeokuta and eventually all over Nigeria between the 1920s and 1950s.

8.He died in 1962 at age 78.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday revealed those behind the lingering crisis between herdsmen and farmers in some states of the federation.

Buhari said those who are determined to plant the seeds of discord and disunity among Nigerians were responsible for the crisis.

He made the disclosure during his Independence Day nationwide broadcast.

The President, while assuring Nigerians of adequate security, also vowed to ensure that perpetrators are made to face the full wrath of the law.

According to Buhari, “The age-long conflict between herders and farmers that was being exploited by those seeking to plant the seeds of discord and disunity amongst our people, is being addressed decisively.

“We will sustain and continue to support the commendable efforts by all including civil society organisations, local and states governments and our traditional and religious leaders in finding durable solution to this problem.

“This being a transhumance issue, we are working with countries in our region that are also facing similar difficulties to complement our common efforts. In this context I must warn that the perpetrators of murder and general mayhem in the name of defending or protecting herders or farmers will face the full wrath of the law.

“Meanwhile, we urge all peace loving Nigerians to reject any simplistic portrayal, at home or abroad, of this conflict as either religious or ethnic based.”

One Ukeme Efanga has been shot dead opposite a police station at Nwaniba, Uruan local government area.

The late Efanga is a father of three children according to his brother.

The deceased was reportedly shot dead by one Etim Effiong Ekpo, who is said to be an elder of the Apostolic Church in Ifiayong Esuk.

Eye witnesses said there was a verbal disagreement between the deceased who was a supporter of Senator John Udoedehe, and Ekpo, a supporter of Obong Nsima Ekere.

The eye witnesses said after the argument, Ekpo went back to his house and brought a gun and shot Efanga on the back at close range.

The lifeless body of the deceased was taken to the state secretariat of the party but no official of the party was at the office as at the time.

It is clear as at the time of filing this report if the case has been officially reported to the police.

Meanwhile the governorship primary in Uruan has not been held. The divisional Police Officer for Uruan, Supol Abia has returned materials meant for the exercise to the state secretariat of the party.

The Governor Samuel Ortom-led Benue State Government has dragged Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC and two commercial banks before the Federal High Court, Makurdi, the state capital over the recent freezing of its accounts.

The banks are United Bank for Africa, UBA, and Fidelity Bank.

The state government through the office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice is demanding that the court declares that the EFCC acted against the law when it directed the banks to freeze its accounts.

The State Government is also praying the court to make a declaration that by freezing the said accounts, EFCC denied the government the right to operate and transact on the affected accounts.

The suit also seeks the verdict of the court to the effect that a state government’s account maintained with any bank or financial institution in Nigeria does not fall within the class of bank accounts liable to be frozen by EFCC.

Another relief sought by the Benue State Government is an order of perpetual injunction restraining the EFCC or its agents from freezing accounts held in UBA and Fidelity Bank or any other bank. The State Government is also demanding N30,000,000,000 from the defendants as damages suffered during the periods the accounts were frozen.

The case comes up on October 8 this year for hearing.

It will be recalled that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on the 7th of August, 2018, ordered the freezing of Benue State Government’s accounts in UBA and Fidelity banks; a decision that adversely affected government business for some days.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in the United Kingdom has slammed Nigerian musician, David Adeleke, also known as Davido for raising the alarm over an alleged plans by the party to rig today’s Osun State governorship rerun election.

Davido yesterday had claimed via tweet that the: “APC already planning to rig tomorrow’s (today) rerun! Enough is Enough man! They’re ready to do ANYTHING AND I MEAN ANYTHING TO STAY IN POWER AND SUFFER THE OSUN PEOPLE FOR ANOTHER 4 YEARS! PLEASE SHARE! @inecnigeria @USEmbassyAbuja @OfficialPDPNig”

The musician, who has been a strong member of the campaign team of Ademola Adeleke, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the governorship election, also shared a sheet, which listed the total number of registered voters in the polling units where the rerun will take place today, saying there was an uncovered plot by APC to rig the return with 812 votes

But in a counter-tweet, the APC UK described Davido as an uninformed political novice whose ‘pay grade’ was lower than the issues at stake; hence, should be ignored by the public.

Retweeting Davido’s post, the APC UK wrote on its verified Twitter handle: “Fellow Nigerians.

Report reaching us now was that there’s currently a fire outbreak at Ojoo road, Ibadan.

A NNPC tanker caught fire after a back to head collision with a brewery trailer due to brake failure.

Soldiers were quick to arrive on the spot with their firetruck while OYO state fire service arrived almost an hour and 30mins later.


No Lives were lost and no other vehicles were involved save the two trailers.The drivers were nowhere to be found.
