No fewer than 19 people were yesterday feared dead following an explosion that occurred at the Osisioma, Abia State axis of the petroleum products pipeline belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Eye witness account said that the explosion happened in the early hours of Friday and the victims included a nursing mother, three soldiers and dozens of others who were all burnt to death.

Several others were said to have sustained various degrees of burns and were rushed to hospitals where medical personnel were battling to save their lives.

The explosion was said to have occurred when NNPC pumped products through old and abandoned pipelines which security agencies understood were no longer used to transport products.

The state commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Benito Eze confirmed that 19 burnt bodies were recovered by his men at the scene of the incident.



Abia State Police Command spokesman, Mr. Geoffrey Ogbonna said that the state command was aware of the ugly incident but added that he didn’t have details of what actually happened and the number of casualties.

He said that it was unfortunate that people did not heed the warning by police that people should not scoop petroleum products from ruptured pipelines because of the very high risk to life and property when explosion occurs.

There was great wailing at the scene as village folks trooped out to identify their loved ones who died in the fire incident. The identified bodies were quickly evacuated by relatives.

Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) from the South West have urged the Yoruba nation to vote against President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 for being “shallow minded.”

IMN said Buhari should be voted out by the Yoruba ethnic group for disrespecting the rule of law.

They gave the call when the South West Coordinator of the group, Muftau Zakariya, led members of the group on a protest to the entrance of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, yesterday.

IMN members were demanding the release of their leader, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky.

Speaking, Zakariya said: “We came to protest today in Abuja to seek the release of our leader and convince the government to obey court order.

“The court has ordered that El-Zakzaky should be released and should be paid N50 million as damages to him and his wife, because of the illegal detention he has been subjected to. But today, the government has refused to obey that order.

“I am especially using this opportunity to talk to my fellow Yoruba men. No Yoruba man that is freely born should vote for Buhari. Buhari has killed his own people. Somebody that kills Northerners, Hausas and the elite; who shot a Muslim scholar, who jailed him and refused to grant him bail. Let me tell you the equivalent of what Buhari has done; It’s like somebody catching Pastor Adeboye at RCCG, and proceeds to shoot and jail him. The Anambra State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Monday alleged that the workers’ contributory pension funds deducted from their salaries since 2014 is no where to be found.

The NLC Chairman in the state, Mr Jerry Nnubia, stated this while presenting his address to mark the 2018 World Day for Decent Work held in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

Nnubia said the state’s NLC had on several occasions called on the government to account for the missing money but nothing had been done.

While urging the state government to stop deducting such money from workers’ salaries, the NLC chairman warned that if the situation was not addressed immediately, workers in the state would be left with no other option but to “go to the trenches.”

He said, “The leadership and members of the NLC Anambra State Council, therefore, wish to use this year’s World Day for Decent Work to call on the state government to, as a matter of urgency, address all the labour issues raised by the organised labour in the state.

“For the avoidance of doubt, some of the labour issues already communicated to the state government include the Contributory Pension Scheme.

“Since 2014 when the law of Contributory Pension Scheme was passed in the state, the government has continued to deduct the salaries of workers in the state in the name of the scheme without remitting same and government’s counterpart contribution to the appropriate quarters.

“It is also evident that the state government has not put up any structural framework as provided by the extant laws for the scheme to succeed in the state.

“We, therefore, wish to use this platform to restate our earlier demand that the Contributory Pension Scheme in the state be scrapped forthwith.

“It is also our demand that all deductions made so far from workers’ salaries in favour of the scheme be refunded.”

A lady was reportedly saved from certain death after she was rejected by a herbalist for being a runs girl and a walking corpse.

According to @iam_zamahni, who narrated the incident on Twitter, her neighbour’s daughter was lured to Abuja by a new client. After spending days with the client at a hotel, the lady found herself in a ritualist shrine. She was meant to be used as sacrifice.

However, she was saved when the native doctor rejected her, saying she had already being used for rituals.

She wrote,

My neighbours daughter that was kidnapped on the 28th of Sept just returned home this morning crying. She was kidnapped to be used for Rituals but the Native Doctor said a superior power from ijebu already used her soul for Rituals and she can’t be used again, cos she’s USELESS

According to her; she travelled to Abuja to meet a friend she has known for some time. On getting there the man was richer than she expected but she suspected something was wrong cos he can’t be so rich from selling only perfume oils.



They spent the night together and she was only getting credit alerts but he didn’t want to have sex with her cos he was saving her for Rituals. The 3rd day came he told her he will be travelling that she can stay in the hotel till anytime she wants to travel home.

According to her; that night by 2 am someone came to wake her up, she said she can’t remember who, but she followed the person, only to see herself in a shrine and the only person she could recognise was her friend. (The guy she went to see in Abuja) and there were other girls too

So she was furious, trying to ask the people how she got there but nobody was answering her. She said she watch them doing their enchantment and she also saw other girls were coming in, ( probably runs Girls) and they were all together, the ones they took out never came back

Then someone came to where they were and asked her to follow him she followed him again, on getting to the shrine they told her so sit inside a calabash, she did but nothing happened. Then the Native Doctor tied a leaf around her neck and Screamed!!! Saying they brought a corpse.

He then called her friend (the guy she went to see in Abuja) in anger the Native Doctor slapped him and asked him if he’s not serious with performing the rituals and that he has 48hrs to provide someone or he’ll run mad. That she (my neighbour’s daughter) has been used previously

They dropped her in the middle of the road, with the intention that a trailer or truck will drive by and crush her to death. But luckily for her, the driver saw her in the middle of the road naked and stopped. He took off his shirt and covered her, moved her from the road and drove off

According to her she was just by the road seeing people passing by but she couldn’t say a word, they probably thought she was MAD. So a relative from the same village who knows her father saw her there and called her dad, that he saw her daughter sitting by the road looking Mad

And the Dad was shocked cos they’ve been trying to reach her on phone and her roommates in school don’t know her whereabouts. They found her somewhere in Ogun state and she came home this morning.

Pandemonium on Sunday evening broke out in Okparabe community, Ughelli South Local Government area of Delta State following the discovery of the body of a middle- aged house wife identified as Mrs. Beatrice Okpoudhu.

She was allegedly raped to death by a group of hoodlums.

It was gathered that the woman had gone in search of firewood to prepare meal for her husband during night fall when she was said to have ran into a group of hoodlums who raped her to death and dumped her body in the bush.

Mr. Sunday Akpoghene, a family member, who spoke to journalists in the area, said after a period of endless waiting by the victim’s husband for her return, a search party was conducted and her lifeless body was found in the bush a stone thrown from the house, and her body sustained with injuries including her private parts.

A police at Otujeremi Division, who spoke to newsmen on the condition of anonymity, said that two persons were arrested in connection with the incident, adding that clear indications showed that woman was allegedly raped and killed by the gang of the suspects as investigation was on going.

But the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, who confirmed the incident to newsmen, disclosed that it was the fourth of its kind in the last few weeks in the entire Ughelli communities.

He said, “the police are investigating cases of rapes, murder in many of the Ughelli communities, the anti kidnapping squad unit of the state CID has taken over those cases, particularly the woman’s incident, it’s the fourth case the police are handling, and all the hoodlums involved will be brought to book.”

Unconfirmed Sources said that the woman had been married to a farmer close to ten years without a child and was a devoted worshipper of an Anglican Church in the area before she was allegedly raped and killed.

The President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organization has reacted to the emergence of former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate.

The President’s campaign team said Atiku was only able to win the primary because he bought delegates’ votes.

In a press release signed by its spokesperson, Festus Keyamo, SAN, and made available to DAILY POST on Sunday, the organization congrstulated the former Vice President, and further accused him of massively buying votes.

The statement read, “We wish to congratulate His Excellency, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar on his emergence as the candidate of the PDP in respect of the forth-coming 2019 Presidential Election.

“However, we note with interest all the reports in the media as to massive vote-buying at the PDP primaries (especially with foreign currency). We contrast this with the speech of President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2014 APC Convention when he said as follows:

‘I have always served Nigeria to the best of my ability. I have always tried to give more to the nation than it has given me. This is the principle of service that has guided my public life. Thus, I am not a rich person. I can’t give you a fistful of dollars or naira to purchase your support. Even if I could, I would not do so. The fate of this nation is not up for sale.’

“There were also media reports in the 2014 APC National Convention that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar freely used the same method of massive vote-buying in foreign currency, but he came a distant third. Till date, he has not denied those media reports. The claim therefore that the process that produce him now as a candidate of the PDP was free, fair and transparent is suspect.

“It is therefore clear that going into this election the issues that will agitate the minds of Nigerians most would be centered around the credibility of the candidate of the opposition and the kind of values he brings into our politics.

“Nigerians would ask themselves whether he can be trusted with our national resources with this proclivity for ‘dollarising’ the political arena, thereby taking us back to the warped values from which President Buhari is trying to extricate the nation. One wonders what such a candidate would do with public funds.

“Nigerians would also note with interest the verdict of Atiku’s former boss when he was Vice President on his credibility and integrity, calling him unprintable names at different occasions. Nigerians would note that in all of these occasions, Atiku Abubakar had never defended these allegations against him by his former boss, but continues to court his support and cooperation.

“Nigerians would want to know how candidate Atiku Abubakar intends to inspire a nation to believe in his ability to fight corruption in the face of very damning reports both locally and internationally concerning his records on corruption whilst he was in public service as a Customs Officer and later when he was Vice President of Nigeria.

“We note with amusement that on many occasions Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has tried to claim some credit for certain ‘achievements’ during the tenure of President Obasanjo when he was Vice President because, according to him, he was ‘part of that Government”. We also wish to remind Nigerians that as much as he claims the credit, he must be prepared to accept joint liability for all that happened in that Government. He cannot blow hot and cold. In due time we shall talk about all these.

“Taking all the above into considerations, Nigerians would rightly ask whether a leopard can indeed change its skin despite all the sweet talk they expect to hear from the opposition candidate during the election.

“Finally, in the history of elections in Nigeria, the choices before Nigerians have never been clearer than now: Nigerians would have to decide between a candidate with a history full of credibility crises, damning reports on corruption both home and abroad and another candidate, (the incumbent President) with an unblemished record in public service.”

A former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has said Nigeria’s democracy is now under threat because of godfathers.

In a statement on Friday titled, ‘We must respect the will of the people’, George said, “Our democracy which has been sustained for almost 20 years is now wobbly, unsteady, and fraught with all kinds of aberrations.

“Little tin pot men playing godfathers are springing up everywhere; planting their agents across the nation. Thus, the very fundamental core of liberty is being dismantled.”

He noted that the 2019 general elections, was another opportunity for Nigerians to fix the broken system.

Goerge added, “At the end of the day, everyone becomes a victim of the tyranny of a vain, greedy minority. But this nation can do better. Let us rebuild our moral ethos.

“Let us recommit ourselves to the core integrity of the Athenian Democracy where the popular will reign supreme over the narrow interest of the few.

“It is how we handle the coming elections that will invariably decide the future of our nation and our collective destiny. I pray that we commit ourselves towards a more redeeming and enlightening national vision.

Police have reportedly attacked leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who are currently protesting against the outcome of the Osun State Governorship election at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.

“I have just been teargassed by the @PoliceNG at @inecnigeria office. Gunshots have been fired.

“This was a peaceful protest. How can I be treated like this in a country I have fought for and invested in?



“This is madness, I came with words they answered with bullets!” Senator Ben Murray Bruce tweeted.

Leaders of the opposition party among whom are the Senate President, Bukola Saraki; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara; and the National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, led the protesters to INEC office after they had earlier converged at the national headquarters of the PDP in Abuja.

Also among the protesters are Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State; former Niger State Governor and presidential aspirant, Sule Lamido; and Senator Dino Melaye, among others.

The PDP wants the electoral umpire to declare PDP candidate, Ademola Adeleke the winner of the Osun election.
