Bayer Munich have lost Franck Ribery to injury. The Frenchman is set for a spell on the sidelines after the Bundesliga giants confirmed the winger suffered a hamstring injury at their training camp in Doha. The Bundesliga champions have confirmed that the experienced French winger picked up an untimely knock during a practice match in Doha. The 35-year-old, who has four Bundesliga goals in 14 appearances this season, sustained the problem during a practice match in the club’s warm-weather camp in Qatar. Bayern are yet to place a timescale on the Frenchman’s recovery, announcing that he will be out of action “for the time being”. The German giants said in a fitness update on their official website : “Bayern’s mid-season training camp in Doha ended with the unfortunate news that Franck Ribery is facing a spell on the sidelines after tearing a hamstring in Wednesday’s evening’s internal friendly match between members of the Bayern squad. Arjen Robben (recovering from a thigh injury) and Corentin Tolisso (sports rehab after rupturing a cruciate) are also unable to train with the team at present.” Ribery was fined by the club last week after publishing a foul-mouthed tweet hitting back at those who accused him of flaunting his wealth in uploading a video of himself with a gold-coated steak in an exclusive Dubai restaurant. The Frenchman said: “Let’s start with the envious, the angry, the people that have been spawned from a broken condom. F*ck your mothers, your grandmothers and even your family tree. I owe you nothing, my success is thanks to god, myself and my family and friends who believed in me. The others were always merely stones in my shoes.” He added: “Secondly, to the pseudo-journalists that always criticised me and my actions (last example, the price of my food!). When I give [to charity] (because I’ve been taught to always give when I receive a lot) why no big national media is talking about it? You would rather talk about the vacation that I spent with my family, you watch my every move, what I eat and so on… You’re always here for this kind of futility.

Portuguese star beats out Frenchmen Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe on Thursday night. Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was named Player of the Year at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai on Thursday night. Ronaldo, who moved from Spanish giants Real Madrid to Serie A champions Juventus during the 2018 summer transfer window, pipped in-form French forwards Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe to the accolade. Griezmann, who plays for Atletico Madrid in the Primera Liga, and Mbappe, the rising Paris Saint-Germain and Ligue 1 star, enjoyed a successful 2018 for club and country. The pair were instrumental in France's Fifa World Cup title win in Russia. It was a good night for another Ronaldo DeLima - the 1994 and 2002 World Cup winner - as the former Brazilian forward was honoured with the Player Career Award, as was French footballer Blaise Matuidi. Another Frenchman to be honoured on the night was Didier Deschamps, who won the Best Coach Of The Year Award for his role in Les Bleus' World Cup win. Zvonimir Boban, the former Croatian footballer currently serving as Fifa's deputy secretary general, was bestowed the Special Career Award. Other winners on the night included Jorge Mendes (Best Agent Of The Year), Fabio Paratici of Juventus (Best Sporting Director Of The Year) and Sami Al Jaber (Arab Career Award). Atletico were named Best Club Of The Year.

Ed Woodward has drawn up a five-man shortlist for
candidates to become Manchester United's next
permanent manager, according to reports.
The Sun suggest Woodward still identifies Mauricio
Pochettino as his first choice to become the next United
manager, but other options are reportedly under
consideration should the Argentine decline the role.
French duo Zinedine Zidane and Laurent Blanc are also
both reportedly on the latest list, but are understood to be
viewed as fall back options should the Tottenham manager
refuse any offer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has impressed during his short spell
as caretaker manager at Old Trafford and it is believed he
will be under consideration for the role if he continues the
season with the same momentum which has seen him win
his first three matches in charge.
However, the fifth name on the rumoured shortlist will
come as a shock to some supporters, with Salzburg
manager Marco Rose also understood to be under
consideration for the role. It is reported the 42-year-old manager is an outside bet for the United first-team job after he impressed club hierarchy with the work he's done in Austria. Rose is 'admired by the United board' for leading Salzburg to the Austrian top-flight title during his first season in charge of the club, as well as guiding his side to the semi- finals of the Europa League in a run which saw them beat Real Sociedad, Borussia Dortmund and Lazio. The report finishes by suggesting the club are fond of Hoffenheim coach Julian Nagelsmann, but he has already agreed to takeover RB Leipzig next season. |

US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have made an unannounced Christmas visit to US troops in Iraq. They travelled there "late on Christmas night" to thank troops for "their service, their success and their sacrifice", the White House said. Mr Trump said the US had no plans to pull out of Iraq. The trip came days after Defence Secretary Jim Mattis quit over divisions about strategy in the region. The US still has some 5,000 troops in Iraq to support the government in its fight against what remains of the Islamic State (IS) group. Mr Trump, his wife and National Security Adviser John Bolton travelled on Air Force One to al-Asad airbase, west of the capital Baghdad, to meet military personnel in the base's canteen. It was his first visit to the region. During the visit he got a standing ovation from troops as he entered a dining hall and walked around greeting them, posing for selfies and signing autographs. He said the reason for the visit was to personally thank them for helping to defeat IS, adding: "Two years ago when I became president they were a very dominant group, today they're not so dominant any more. Great job." The president told the soldiers he had secured a 10% wage increase for them, after learning their pay had been stagnant for "more than 10 years". In fact armed forces personnel have received a pay rise in each of the past 10 years. The increase for 2019, approved by the president in August, will be 2.6%. Mr Trump had planned to spend Christmas at his private golf club in Florida, but stayed behind in Washington because of the current partial government shutdown. The Question Is, Can Our Government Do The Same? Your opinions are needed.

A 43-year-old guest, Donnie Egbuzie, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly inflicting injuries on a woman, over her son’s refusal to greet him. Egbuzie, a resident of Baruwa, Ipaja, Lagos, is being tried on a count charge of assault. The accused committed the offence on Dec.11, at Ipaja, according to the Prosecutor, Insp. Akeem Raji. He said that the accused assaulted Mrs Jennifer Chibueze by beating her up and inflicting injuries on her. Raji said that the accused, who came to visit one of Chibueze’s neighbours, called her son a bastard, for failing to greet him. “The eight-year-old boy cried to his mother and told her that theaccused called him a bastard. “The complainant (Chibueze) followed him to where the accused was, to know why he called him a bastard. “The accused told her that he called her son a bastard because he lacked respect by not greeting him. “When the complainant warned him never to call her son a bastard, he descended on her through beating and dragged her on the ground,” Raji submitted. The prosecutor said that the accused was arrested following a report by the complainant. Assault contravenes Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised) which prescribes three years’ imprisonment on conviction. Egbuzie, however, pleaded not guilty, and the Magistrate, Mrs Jadesola Ajayi, granted him N50, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum. Ajayi said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government (LASG). She adjourned further hearing in the matter until Feb. 6, 2019 . https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/12/guest-allegedly-beats-up-woman-over-sons-failure-to-greet/ |
Frontline entertainment company and record label,
Ericmany Entertainment has won a N14,000,000 suit filed
against it and its act Douglas Jack Agu (aka Runtown) by
the Dynamic Minds League. The suit was for claim of
damages against Ericmany for a ‘no-show’ by Runtown at
a carnival in Anambra State organized by the group in
January 2015.
The case, Suit No LD/ADR/251/2015, was filed on 19th
August, 2015 by the Anambra group through its leader,
Mr. Chizuo Anetoh. They dragged Runtown, Ericmany
Entertainment and Prince Okwudili Umenyiora, the
billionaire Chairman of Dilly Motors Limited and Ericmany
Entertainment before the Lagos High Court, claiming the
sum of N14 Million as damages for failure of Runtown to
perform at their Harmattan Carnival held at Adazi-
Nnukwu, Anaocha in Anambra State.
Ericmany lawyers, Chijioke Emeka & Colleagues [Auxano
Law] argued that the group first breached the contract
having failed to provide all that was required and in good
time for the artiste to make the appearance. Ericmany’s
case was that the group made inadequate and shoddy
arrangements. Being the Christmas period, Ericmany’s
crew had to sort out late hour flight tickets to Port
Harcourt instead of Asaba or Owerri nearer to the
Anaocha venue. Upon landing in Port Harcourt it was late
to proceed on a dangerous night road journey without
adequate security, Ericmany’s lawyer claimed.
During the trial on 10th May, 2018, Mr. Aneto testified for
his group. He narrated how Runtown flew from Lagos to
Port Harcourt but refused to further proceed on the road
journey to Adazi, even after they engaged a police escort
for him at the airport. Ericmany’s witness, Amani
Henshaw gave an account of the breaches of the contract
by the group, especially its failure to provide flight tickets
for the crew and failure to provide sufficient security for
the night road journey to Anambra State. He told the
Court how his team waited for many hours at the airport
until it became very late and they had to cancel the trip.
In his judgment, Hon. Justice K. O. Alogba gave victory to
Ericmany. The Judge found that the failure of Runtown to
get to Adazi in Anambra State and perform at the carnival
was justified as the group’s arrangement was very
shoddy. The Court agreed with Ericmany that the Dynamic
Minds League was reckless about the contract when it
failed to book flight tickets ahead. The Court also held
that the group did not prove how they are entitled to their
N14 Million claim as it did not adduce cogent evidence.
Each of the claims was therefore dismissed.
Justice came the way of Ericmany Entertainment barely
three years after the Dynamic Minds League flooded the
print media, social media and several blogs with news of
the alleged breach of contract and its N14 Million suit
against Ericmany and Runtown.
