But politics is a different ball game from competence and performance in public office.

The question is not whether the South West has capable people.

The question is whether the political structure, party interests, regional calculations and electoral realities will allow such people to emerge and gain broad national acceptance.

Let us be honest: do you think the North would readily unite behind a pastor like Osinbajo as a presidential candidate? It is not impossible, but it would require serious political negotiation and coalition-building.

What is important is the fiscal reforms that can't be reversed. The country can never go back to a budget of 23 billion dollars a year and that is all that is important

What we need is a law preventing leaders

When the APC government was campaigning for CNG, I told some friends that it will not remain cheap and accessible for long.

If everyone migrates to the use of CNG, they will raise the prices such that you will regret dump fuel as a source of energy for your car..

They did it with cooking gas. In the 90s, 90% of households in cities used kerosene for cooking. Then thr government came with their campaign for cooking gas. Every housefire mishap was blamed on kerosene explosion.

Cooking gas was cheap, so people dumped kerosine stove. Few years later the price of cooking gas grew exponentially and almost beyond the reach of many households.

The solution to removal of subsidy is not CNG. Te simple solution is to start connecting states ..and region with rail. U can easily move masses to rail.. in fact people will park their cars. For example..Lagos blueline carried 2.38m passengers in 15 months.

The company majored on world Bank and multilateral agencies assisted projects. In a project of this magnitude you will find it difficult to have one fixed cost. It's broken into lots or sections and costed according. The designs are equally in this pattern.

Dave is right. In this type of project there will always be cost and design adjustments as new issues are discovered. The overall cost can only be known at the completion of the project.

There is an important distinction between a final cost and an estimated total project cost.

Phased construction should not mean that the government cannot explain the project's overall financial exposure.

What in heaven’s name did you guys think removal of fuel subsidy was?

How would he prepare the masses? Buhari first announced removal of subsidy in January 2022 but later changed his mind promising to prepare Nigerians over an 18 month period with stuff like CNG but nothing much materialised and the Buhari Government in 2022 was contemplating using Eurobonds for continuation of the subsidy. So there was already an 18 month head start and no budget for subsidy beyond the 18 months which was to end in June 2023. If Tinubu continued beyond June all in the name of preparing Nigerians, he would never remove the subsidy. Let’s not deceive ourselves.

As for CNG conversion, the Government doesn’t need to target millions of vehicles. Just make the program easy enough for private investors to invest in, build the infrastructure and subsidize CNG conversion only for transport vehicles travelling between states and regions like trucks and the likes so that food transport is affected by it.

The moment fuel prices spike, the cost of virtually every commodity skyrockets.
The damage to household purchasing power and the local consumer market happens immediately,

Businesses cannot thrive in a consumer market where millions of people can barely afford basic necessities.
Businesses will lose customers, lay off staffs and may eventually close up.
Acc to NESG, 30% of Nigeria's 24 million registered MSMEs collapsed due to BAT reforms.
That is a bad statistic for an economy that desperately needs job creation and private-sector growth.

Tinubu had options.
That is precisely why he is President.
His government could have considered a supplementary budget,....
It could also have accelerated domestic refining capacity ...
and rolled out viable alternatives before exposing Nigerians to the full shock....
He decided to chose the extreme path.

What makes the situation more troubling is that BAT has continued to borrow massuvely from
the World Bank and international debt markets,
while Nigerians still question the pace of reductions in the cost of governance.
Even, all the monies freed up from removing subsides has been completely wiped out.

Airtel investment is not an answer to the immediate cost-of-living crisis.

Why did i say our culture? Last friday, my neighbour was referred to Orile Agege General Hospital by me to see a Dr over the complaint he made on his limb. On getting there, they said they dont have an xray machine to.use. All the patients were directed to a diagnostic centre nearby. Anyone familiar with that place will know better. The screenshot below says it all, for all doubting thomases. When we told them ibos didn't contribute to obi's winning alimosho and entre lagos in 2023, they didn't believe us. Ibos are just 4% of our population. We're mainly yorubas in alimosho.

Tinubu did nothing but propaganda. I pity ogun state. By the time yayi is done with them, theyd know dapo was a nice man, even though he's also worse. These hospital facilities are supposed to be equipped by some of them with our constituency money. Yayi took all of them and ran to ogun, after doing 2 terms as lagos senator. Uncle Doherty is the next lagos governor. Argue later. Its time for omo eko to govern. We need our state back.

Ask yourself if BAT administration actually demonstrate ....
that it assessed their combined effects, prepared adequate safeguards...
and had a credible plan for managing the transition of these reforms....

Stabilizing measures should have been part of the reform, not an afterthought.

Ultimately, the question is not simply whether the reforms were necessary to stabilise the economy.
It is whether the administration demonstrated the foresight, competence, and social responsibility
required to implement them without imposing avoidable hardship on millions of Nigerians.
