The very Intelligent Man and Women we have as ministers/special advisers, etc all depict (Brain) self-centered and scheming;
GEJ depicts (Pinky) good-natured but feebleminded.

Now the Brain's have devised new plans to take over the world (Nigeria), which ultimately ends in failure, usually due to Pinky's idiocy or the impossibility of Brain's plan

Gosh! I Love this Country, We certainly will take over the world someday, that's one thing am sure of.

Politics / Re: UN Has Not Been Informed Of Arrests In Nigerian Bombing by wills(m): 10:14am On Sep 02, 2011
Read and weep for this country,if you treat terror cases with kid gloves and sectional politics, what you get is continued bombing and yet another Governor from the North is ordering release of suspected sect members

Nigeria 'freed UN bomb suspect'

Nigeria detained and released several radical Muslims suspected of being terrorists in 2007 - including a man said to have helped organise last week's deadly car bombing at the United Nations headquarters in the nation's capital.
The men arrested four years ago had allegedly been caught with explosives. Their rapid release from detention was apparently aimed at placating Muslim groups, but it has now come back to haunt security officials who fear a growing wave of al Qaida-linked terror attacks in Nigeria, a main supplier of oil to the United States.

Some of those arrested in October 2007 were even plotting to carry out attacks in the United States and to attack American targets in Africa's most populous country, said a high-ranking official who claimed direct knowledge of the arrests.
Nigeria remains very sensitive to any suggestion it is a haven for terrorists and the information released at the time of the arrests was fairly vague. It was not immediately clear if Nigeria shared information about the purported anti-US plots with US officials.
The US embassy had no immediate comment but in a report on global terror threats, the State Department said diplomats issued a warning to US citizens in 2007 about possible attacks on US and Western interests in Nigeria.
It also noted that Nigerian authorities said they arrested at least 10 suspected terrorists in northern Nigeria late that year with alleged ties to al Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb.

A former US ambassador to Nigeria, John Campbell, who left the country several months before the 2007 arrests, said Pakistanis would have stood out in northern Nigeria. Mr Campbell, now a fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, said he had no information about arrests of any Pakistanis.
Top security officials in the administration of then-President Umaru Yar'Adua, a Muslim, released the rounded-up men shortly after their arrests, with some facing a few hasty sham trials, the Nigerian official said.
One of those men was Babagana Ismail Kwaljima, also known as Abu Summaya, who was arrested again days before the August 26 bombing at the United Nations compound in Abuja that killed at least 23 people, the official said.
Kwaljima is accused of helping mastermind the UN bombing. A second man was also arrested and police are looking for a third with "al Qaida links" who recently travelled in Somalia, where al Qaida-linked group al-Shabab is battling the beleaguered UN-backed government.

Education / Re: 2011 World University Ranking, UNN (Nsukka) Is # 3 In Nigeria by wills(m): 10:03pm On Feb 27, 2011
Rankings are controvarsial issues especially higher education rankings. What are the parameters used for these ranking and what authorities validate these rankings? These are questions to ask rather than worry about UNN or UNILORIN being ranked this or that. In times past we have seen some other Nigerian based rankings that uses the prestige of name and age to rank 1st generation University as top ranking regardless of the rot being experienced in some of this institutions. Presently there are a few Universities in Nigeria that can compete favourably with top notch Uni in the Africa but yet get no mention in rankings simply because they are young Universities,Privately run Uni or state owned Uni. To me this just makes nonesense of the entire ranking system and I would advice would be students to use more than just these ranking to make there choice of where to learn and gain a qualification

Education / My Lecturer Failed Me For Knowing More Than Him– Oremosu, Un Citizen Ambassador by wills(m): 1:24am On Nov 28, 2010
Just watched Adetoye Oremosu on youtube via this link

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQ0PwJGBYnU

An excellent young man, that is making his country proud and proud to be from this country. It’s a tragedy that the likes of the kind of lecture he encountered at UI are scattered all over Nigeria Universities and Polytechnics’, damaging life’s they are ment to train and develop.
A Good thing he didn’t settle a failure when failed unjust fully, and he in turn is not doing the same to those behind him,but making a postive diffrence in his own little way.

My lecturer failed me for knowing more than him– Oremosu, UN Citizen Ambassador
By TOYOSI OGUNSEYE Sunday, 28 Nov 2010

Adetoye Oremosu is an engineer, a media expert and an author. Recently, he added another feather to his cap when became the United Nations Citizen Ambassador for Africa. It‘s however not been an easy journey to the top, he tells TOYOSI OGUNSEYE

After meeting Adetoye Oremosu in the United States of America recently, the United Nations

Secretary General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, could not hide his admiration for the 32-year-old man.

Ki-moon was not the only person captivated by Oremosu‘s passion. Anyone that has crossed the author‘s path will tell you that he is committed to his beliefs. Chief among them is that ”the dysfunctional educational system in Nigeria will continue to have a consequent negative impact on the Nigerian economy if not corrected.”

No wonder, the panel of judges at the United Nations could also not resist Oremosu‘s entry at the recent Citizen Ambassador video-contest. Oremosu simply ‘wowed‘ the audience with his presentation and became the first African ever to win the competition.

The engineer-author was researching a paper for a conference for the School of Media and Communication, Pan-African University, Victoria Island, Lagos, where he works, when he stumbled on the contest. He says, ”I was looking at the possibility of achieving the Millennium Development Goal in education with Pidgin English. While researching, I discovered the United Nations Citizen Ambassador competition and this was just about two weeks to the deadline. It took me about a week to put it together and I sent it in on the final day of the competition. The competition was about speaking to world leaders on the MDG in a two-minute creative video. Luckily, I won for Africa.”

One of the rewards of winning the contest was meeting Ki-moon, who the writer sees as his role model. Oremosu however says that the highpoint of the award is the platform he now has to champion his passions. He says, ”I am a teacher. I have inclinations towards proper education for economic growth. But with the current set of students that we have, I don‘t think that can happen. This is a matter of serious concern.”

Oremosu, who studied electrical/electronics engineering at the University of Ibadan, started preaching the message of self-development and social change to youths 15 years ago and firmly believes that Nigeria is a heaven. He says, ”I am bent on living in this country and making something out of it.”

The author‘s passion for education and political uprightness was further gingered after he had an extra year in the university. Talk about opportunity in adversity. According to him, that was a very low period of his life because people were surprised that he could repeat a year, considering his brilliance. He however says that he failed the course not because he did not know it but because he knew it better than his lecturer!

Hear him, ”It was a programming course and the lecturer was teaching us a very archaic version. In fact, my friends abroad could not believe it when I told them that that was what we were using at UI. Fortunately for me, I knew the newer version of the application and on the day of the exam, I answered the question with the more recent version. To my surprise, my lecturer failed me for that. I had to repeat a year and it was a very low period for me; but it also got me thinking that a lot of things are wrong with Nigeria‘s educational system.” That was (year).

The ugly experience with the lecturer was not the only unpleasant one Oremosu had at the Ivory Tower; he candidly tells you that the same practical tools he used in the laboratory were the same ones his mother used when she was in the same department.

He says, ”My mother finished from the same department in the same university and I used the same practical equipment that she used almost 30 years before I got into the same department. Nothing much had changed. Does that not tell you why we seem to lag behind?”

When he left UI (year), Oremosu practised as engineer for a few years and decided to study Media and Communications at the Pan African University. He believes that there is an ”artificial divide between the arts and the sciences,” and may even find himself studying medicine someday. He says with conviction, ”There is no limit to knowledge and what we can achieve as human beings. The human mind can accommodate so much. So, if tomorrow, I am thirsty for medical knowledge, off to the school of medicine I go.”

Oremosu believes that the reason young Nigerians don‘t read is because of the pervasive general lack of vision. He says, ”This is as a result of years of repression by vision-less leaders and corruption. I dare say, a larger percentage of the Nigerian rich got their wealth dubiously and these are the examples of success we have in our society. And really, you don‘t need to be well educated to be dubious. It‘s also because most people don‘t have a genuine vision for the communities they live in and so do not aspire for more than their belly/pocket.”

The UN Citizen Ambassador argues that because there are few readers, there will be few leaders. However, of the few readers, he says, even fewer know how to read meaningfully. ”It is always quite interesting to meet people who say they have read a book and they cannot discuss meaningfully what they have read or argue for or against the position of the author. Skills like critical reading are not really taught in our schools. Nigerian students are usually taught to learn by rote and cramming. This does not foster creativity at all. The system is so bad that in many cases, if students do not give an answer exactly the way the lecturer/teacher gave him, they are marked wrong whether or not they have provided a better answer or brought a creative bent to the question being answered.”

It is out of this understanding and desire for change that Oremosu has decided to create reading clubs among graduates, with a view to solving specific societal problems.

Apart from writing, his regular job and his ambassadorial duties, Oremosu says that politics is also a possibility. Without mincing words, he says, ”I am a believer in a new Nigeria and I am committed to being a player in its transformation

Politics / 'youth Not Oil Is Nigeria’s Most Valuable Resource' by wills(m): 5:11pm On Nov 01, 2010
'Youth not oil is Nigeria’s most valuable resource', but sadly enough down South some politicians will arm youths for selfish purposes, up North religious bigots will also arm youths to propagate their own doctrine of terror.
What we have is countless number of young Nigerians dieing at the end of the day, while these old and never changing evil men still enjoy more than the perks of political or religious power.

I used to be quite confident that the average educated Nigerian youth both north and south know better not to fall into the hands of Politician, or Religious bigot. But lately on most online forum or offline discuss where one will want to believe you can find very enlighten and objective views from youthful Nigerians, the reverse is mostly the case on topics or tread you read or listen to concerning events or happenings in Nigeria.

These are some of thee long aged evil tools of bad leaders the world over, divide and rule, engage people in bitter rivalry over land, resources or religion. It’s no surprise that it’s still being used in Nigeria and at all levels federal, state, communal, and even religious.

If indeed 'Youths and not Oil is Nigeria’s most valuable resource' then its time the Nigerian youth wake up and stand for objectivity, leave tribal and religious bias alone , and be aware and ready to challenge politicians, religious leaders, etc when they start wiping ethnic or religious sentiments to favour their personal greed.
Politics / Re: 6 Killed In Fresh Jos Violence by wills(m): 12:16pm On Nov 01, 2010
Baghdad church hostage drama ends in bloodbathAt least 52 people were killed as security forces stormed a Catholic church in Baghdad to free dozens of hostages, said Deputy Interior Minister Maj Gen Hussein Kamal, source BBC

Unprovoked attack on a church and killing of Christians seems almost normal and acceptable not just in the Moslem controlled states of this world, but sadly in Northern Nigeria and the western world and even our local media kind of turns a blind eye . There’s no serious outrageous condemnation of these acts.

But on the other hand if a little unknown church and pastor threatens to burn a sacred book of Islam, (not burn a human life) just a book, the whole world is up and down condemning and debating the issue and even GEJ was commenting on it,but now the six Nigeria lifes is lost yet again in Jos , what has GJ has to say?.

Now as much as I agree with the condemnation to burn the Koran by anybody, I will also like to see Muslims the world over coming out to condemn the killing of Christina in a church in worship to their God and without any provocation to these Islamist militants, and the Northern Nigerian moslem calling out for purnishment to all negative elements of the islam faith in Nigeria and also the western media being objective in their reporting. Equally Christian leaders should keep asking and enjoining Christians to walk away from violence and revenge.

To those who want to rule the world by their terror acts, like it or not you can’t eat your cake and have it, it’s a simple truth you sow evil now and be sure you will reap evil also.

To the departed souls via this wicked acts of men (Rest in Peace), may the Mercies of Jesus Christ be with you as you have transcend this wicked world and may the grace of God comfort your families. Amen.

Do something speak out now and Vote right when the time comes, otherwise we will once again be the spectators as Nigeria is entertained at the Evil Circus by the Evil genius if he ever lay hold on Power again.

Say, never again IBB.

Nigerians divided by Babangida
By Sola Odunfa
BBC Focus On Africa magazine

Gen Babangida wants to run for the ruling People's Democratic Party
Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, the stupendously wealthy former military ruler of Nigeria, is only one of some 20 presidential aspirants in upcoming polls - but none excite half as much emotion as he does.
His supporters are fanatical with admiration; his opponents dislike him with an equal passion.

Hardly any Nigerian is indifferent to IBB, as he is known. And with the country's general and presidential elections due in April 2007, Mr Babangida's figure looms large over the political landscape.

During his years in power between 1985 and 1993, the press nicknamed him Maradona for his deft political dribbling skills - demonstrated in particular when his elaborate plan to hand over to civilian rule ate deep into the nation's purse for three years, yet produced no democracy.

But having given himself the title "evil genius", he is now tasked with convincing Nigerian voters that he means no evil. But the field he faces is hostile indeed.

Public campaign

On Mr Babangida's 65th birthday in August, a group called the Citizens For Nigeria spoiled the party with a full-page newspaper advertisement proclaiming that "the bedrock for today's economic and financial problems in Nigeria was laid by this man".

They blamed him for the "institutionalisation of the culture of corruption" in Nigeria.

And the concerted public campaign to rubbish Mr Babangida began as far back as May, when his former chief of defence staff, General Domkat Bali, revealed a minister who was executed for allegedly plotting a coup was convicted on "weak" evidence.

"I am not sure whether we were right to have killed him," General Bali said.

The widow of the executed minister, General Mamman Vasta, then wrote to President Olusegun Obasanjo protesting her husband's innocence and demanding that Mr Babangida be prosecuted for her husband's "murder".
Even without a decision on whether the matter will be officially pursued, incalculable political harm had been done to the former military ruler.

Meanwhile, the heat drew nearer to home in August when Mr Babangida's son, Mohammed, was arrested by anti-corruption agents.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) made no allegations of impropriety, but he was questioned about his financial affairs and alleged investment in the local telecommunications company, Globacom. He spent three days behind bars before he was released on bail.

However, his father's supporters were quick to point the blame for his detention on Mr Obasanjo's government - and added that the EFCC's target was in fact Mr Babangida himself, with the intention of finding something with which to discredit him.

They also took issue with the earlier arrest and interrogation of Mike Adenuga, the highly respected owner of Globacom, claiming he is being harassed because of his close relationship with Mr Babangida.

Major hurdle

On his birthday, Mr Babangida gave his first personal response to these mounting problems.

"I can understand because we are getting into politics," he said, adding that the Vatsa execution had now been added "into the vocabulary of the atrocities committed by IBB".

But he called for people to "understand and to be fair in their condemnation."

"Nigeria is bigger than Babangida or any other person - so, we should be thinking on what to do to better our country," he added.

However, it is not yet certain whether Mr Babangida's name will even appear on the ballot papers - with a major hurdle for him being a recommendation to government that he and two other ex-military rulers, who rejected summonses to appear before the Human Rights Violations Investigations Commission, be banned from leading Nigeria again.

The decision to implement the recommendation rests with President Obasanjo - and perhaps ultimately with the courts of appeal.

I think a bloody revelation just won’t work to get rid of all the so called greedy and self serving leaders or politicians we have in Nigeria regardless of tribe or religion.

Simply for one reason, the vast majority of Nigerians are still gullible and will swing to tribal and religious sentiments, when ever this same good for nothing leaders use these divide and rule tactics in satisfying their own selfish ambitions.

Revolution must 1st start by opening the Minds of our people, and get them to stand and wakeup. Let’s stands for right and not tribe or religion, lets up hold universal accepted truths like honesty, fairness, mutual respect, right to life e.t.c. Then and only then will any revolution have its full effect, otherwise the same people you are revolting for there freedom,  will be the ones they will use to fighting against you and keep this same greedy people holding onto power and wealth of the nation.

MaziUche0:

I have come to the painful conclusion that the whole Nigerian state needs to be overhauled. We need a bloody revolution, not some peaceful revolution. As long as these thieving politicians are living, we will never have change. This crosses all tribal groups. We all know this "inconvenient truth." Nigeria needs to be purged of these elements and some of its inhabitants.

I feel the youth are no different from our parents generation. I actually think they will be a lot worse. Instead of the youth in college saying that they want to be a doctor or an engineer, they say that that they want to be a politician. And we all know the reason why they choose this path of work. It is in order so they can loot public funds.

A revolution is needed. Nigeria should not celebrate 50 years of independence. We have more impoverished people now, than 20 years ago.

Shame on you @MaziUche, your speaking your mind I know but I still say it again shame on you.

You say Nigeria needs a bloody revolution and your profile states you’re in the USA, or are you not a Nigerian? Who do you want to die for you?
Why can’t you come down and start a revelation.

Your signature says Nigeria is a failed state, reading that makes me laugh at your ineptitude of the political lingo, dont use a word just cause you hear it on CNN.

No doubt about it Nigeria needs a change for good, but please @MaziUche and the likes of you, action speaks louder then writing on NL. Get out there and do something positive, otherwise shut the F, K up!.

Politics / Celebrating 50 Years! by wills(m): 10:37am On Sep 25, 2010
Who's worth celebrating? The make believe, yet believable stories on Brit drama series CORONATION STREET, running now for 50yrs. Or the real life, yet unbelievable stories and happenings in NIGERIA celebrating ironically, 50yrs of supposed freedom from the Brits.
Politics / Normalised Political Fear. by wills(m): 2:46pm On Sep 07, 2010
Just like a flash 2011 is fast approaching and its election year in Nigeria. Using this quote by one of my favourite author (Chimamanda Adichie) one can easily say a “Normalised Political Fear Invades Our Life’s” as Nigerians again.

The air of uncertainty and fear keeps building by the day, the Nigeria daily newspapers are littered with headlines and captions that makes one wonder, What really will 2011 elections bring with it, or what will it take away.

Will it bring the desired changes that Nigerians so much yearn for since it started it’s ever so called nascent democracy ? or will it take more life’s via assassinations / violence, increased kidnapping and possible magnify corruption to greater heights.

With captions in the print media like;

I’m Ready To Die For Jonathan, Says Asari Dokubo.

2011: Militants Hold Secret Meetings With Ibb, Buhari.

Igbo’ll regain political relevance in 2011 – Jonathan.

Though the majority of Nigerians fail to talk about it either out of hopelessness or nonchalance, but will rather be fanatically engaged in the discus of the English Premier League. The truth remains that consciously or sub consciously, normalised political fear has and is invading our life’s.

Let’s get talking, create awareness and open our minds. The mind of the average man, woman boy or girl child in Nigeria to demand and fight for honest and purposeful governance, rather than let this “fear” envelope our minds.

50 years is a rather long time in such a mess, we really should not be celebrating Nigerian at 50, but rather be asking serious questions at 50 so that hopefully within the next 50, will find some real workable answers
