Religion / Australian Prime Minister Does It Again! by wills(m): 11:03pm On Jan 26, 2010
Some, Muslim’s, note my word SOME!, not all, have no doubt give their faith more than a bad name, but they have rapped the faith around the worst kind of evils ever exhibited or fathomed by the mind of a man in all of human existence.

I seem to always wonder, where the so called moderate Muslims are. The extremist ones want to take over the world by villain or terror and so far i don’t see them (Moderate Muslim) putting up a fight to save their faith, best described as a religion of peace.

Its easy to say peace be unto the prophet Mohammed, so why all this terror and killing in the name of their god. Nigerian Muslims can someone answer me please?

This article below, I believe is one of the best straight talk, I have heard in a long time concerning Muslims by a world leader. I wish many more speak up in the same manner , I ask again why do Islamism always seek to in one way or the other bite the fingers that feed them.

They should read the hand writing on the wall, Europe and the western world is getting fed up with their nonsense, where they leave in your society they wont adjust to your culture, but rather want to change yours and in most cases they try to do it by force.

I always wonder how come they want to turn the desert to paradise (Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait etc) and leave peacefully and prosper, yet a group of these same Muslims want to deny same for other nation.

France is taking a whack at its Moslem, I guess trying to cut them to size, Denmark has done its own, and soon I know the UK will come up with something.

Nigerian Muslims should redefine themselves, and kill the growing trend of copying and perpetration of terror acts.

Australia Prime Minister,, Kevin Rudd - SPEAKS!!!

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks,

Separately, Rudd angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques. Quote:

'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians. '

'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom'

'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society . Learn the language!'

'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.'

'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.'

'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom, 'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.'

'If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.'
Maybe if we circulate this amongst ourselves, we will find the courage to start speaking and voicing the same truths.

Final words from outgoing Nigerian born CIPS president

Departing CIPS president Dr Bola Afolabi said the most rewarding aspect of his term has been the chance to promote procurement education in Africa.

Bola Afolabi
"I am passionate about increasing opportunities for young people in Africa to have access to CIPS qualifications. I can even claim direct responsibility for the registration of 250 new student members from Nigeria - I physically carried their application forms to Easton House," he said.

Speaking in the CIPS Update pages of SM, Afolabi, whose tenure as president of CIPS ends tomorrow, said he's amazed how quickly the 12 months passed - and how much the institute has changed in that time.

He believes CIPS is weathering the downturn well - with growing membership - and he is "totally behind" the plans of CIPS CEO David Noble, who became head of the institute in June.

He said he has enormously enjoyed representing CIPS at events in Africa, Australia, the UK and US, and the response to the institute at these events confirms CIPS as "undisputedly the world leader for our profession".

Afolabi said colleagues on the institute's council have picked up his theme for the year - "leadership without boundaries" - and are "developing some great ideas that will shape CIPS for years to come

It’s really hard and tough to believe in Nigeria, let alone say something positive about Nigeria. I must say I do understand with everyone who thinks Nigeria is not worth expending the energy to salvage it from further ruin.
But let’s think hard, Nigeria is not just one man, Nigeria is me, you, yaradua and it even goes further beyond us to the ones not born yet. If you chose to give up or dont want to concern yourself about Nigeria, Fine!, Let’s not fuss about it.

For anyone who believes he/ she can make a change for a better Nigeria, I enjoin you to hold on to the believe and act on it.

Quoting Rev Jesse Louis Jackson, Sr, I will say to every Nigerian lets “keep Hope alive”.

Lets PRAY!, that as we mark another year of Independence that Nigeria will really change for the better, and that by both divine grace and human efforts, we will support to usher in more focused people, coupled with the requisite knowhow in resource management and nation building, having a burning passion for a better and sustainable future for Nigerians.

Let eagerly and consciously await and fight for the replacement/refusal of any so called leader(s) who think leadership in Nigeria should be all about sharing the money, and looting the treasury, without fear.

We have come this far under very hard and most times unfortunate governance. However, Leadership and followership, we all need to change, no matter how little let’s make a positive change.

God Bless Nigeria.

Let eagerly and consciously await and fight for the replacement of all so called leader(s) who think leadership in Nigeria should be all about sharing the money, and Looting the treasury, without fear.

Below is one more Good thing to read about, Lets pray this investment comes to fruition someday.

Six Flags eyes theme park in Nigeria.

Six Flags Inc., one of the world's largest theme park operators with 21 properties in North America, is planning to open a theme park in a place where no theme park has gone before: Nigeria.

Six Flags officials hope to open a 250-acre park by 2013 in Calabar, a historic city in Cross River state on Nigeria's southeastern border.

Six Flags already owns two international theme parks, one in Montreal and the other in Mexico City. But Nigeria, which has no large-scale theme parks, is a new frontier.

"We saw Nigeria, a country with a population of more than 140 million people, a rapidly growing middle class and relatively few theme-park options, as a good emerging market to expand Six Flags' global brand," said Andrew Schleimer, executive vice president of strategic development and in-park services for Six Flags.

Six Flags filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in June. Its chairman, Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder, hired Mark Shapiro as chief executive officer in 2005 to help return the New York company to profitability.

"Shapiro is one of the brightest guys in the industry," said Dennis Speigel, president of International Theme Park Services, a consulting firm in Cincinnati. "Under his leadership, the company has been on the correct reconfiguration path."

However, Mr. Speigel has some doubts about the company's Nigerian venture. "I'm not sure if this announcement brings credibility to Six Flags' table," he said.

Some analysts say Six Flags' plan to build a park in Nigeria may be motivated by market saturation in the places where it operates, suggesting that the company wants to test an untapped market.

"There are already a number of theme parks in parts of Asia, Europe, Australia and parts of the Middle East," Mr. Speigel said.

"It's a worthy cause for Six Flags to spread this type of entertainment, but [Nigeria] is a tough place to do business given the role corruption and government interference play there," he said. "Some parts of the country are having trouble clothing its people. I have to question whether Nigeria is ready for an attraction of this nature."

Nigeria derives about 95 percent of its foreign exchange earnings and 80 percent of its budget revenues from oil production, according to data collected by the CIA. That crucial revenue stream has been threatened by a spate of kidnappings of foreign oil workers by militant groups.

More than 500 people have been kidnapped in Nigeria so far this year, up nearly 70 percent from 2008. Several foreign companies, including Willbros Group Inc., a U.S. oil services contractor, have withdrawn from Nigeria.

Six Flags and Cross River state reached the agreement as another promising business partnership goes awry.

Virgin Nigeria, launched in 2005, recently announced that it was changing its name to Nigerian Eagle Airlines, deepening its fractured relationship with British founder Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd. Hopes were high for Virgin Nigeria to establish itself as a safe and credible flagship carrier, but Virgin Atlantic officials have told Reuters that they were looking to sell the company's 49 percent stake in the Nigerian airline, for which it paid about $25 million.

Although development of a Nigerian theme park is still in the early stages, Six Flags officials expressed confidence about the project. "We have certainly done our due diligence," Mr. Schleimer said.

"The first phase of this project is designed to get to know the partners, the lay of the land and to conceptualize the look and feel of the project. The first phase is a fact-finding mission for both parties.

"We are aware of pockets of civil unrest in the country, mainly in the north. So far, we are comfortable with the stability of the region that we are working in," he said.

Once the initial planning phase is complete, Six Flags and the Cross River government will collaborate on the design, construction and management of the park. Construction labor is expected to come from the local population, which will spur economic growth, said Mr. Schleimer, adding that financing probably will be the result of a public-private partnership in which the government pays a portion of the cost. Six Flags would not divulge details of its financing plan.

Despite the global economic downturn, attendance held steady last year at North America's top 20 theme parks, according to a 2008 report by the Themed Entertainment Association.

Abroad, attendance for the top 20 European parks rose 1 percent from 2007 to 2008. Six Flags' Mexico City park was No. 1 in the Latin America market even though it recorded a half-percentage-point drop in attendance

They don’t just lie under oaths these so called Governors and leadership In Nigeria, They still do it on International TV.
How can this Black hat wearing man of a Governor say the entire earning of Bayelsa state is 30Million Dollars (USD). What Rubbish, Common now Mr Timi. That’s a Lie from the pit of Hell.
And also what’s it with the star of David thing, utter nonsense and absolute fetish juju right in Government house, Talking about ,walking around it seven times and make a wish, that easy, how come he can’t wish the militancy away. Make a wish indeed. Looking at him acting like a youngster showing off his new bike to the CNN reporter.
Dear NLanders, its Government like this and people of these sorts we all as Nigerian must do all we can to see there is a Change in leadership. From the local government to the federal level and across all tier of Government.

Mr Timi is not alone in this foolishly proud attitude of wasting scare resources, this same scenario can be painted in the other 35 states, including, Aso rock.
How come he chose to use this so called castle as the intended model for the state capital development, why not build the state capital and then model the Governors lodge to what is obtainable in the larger City, I thought in his manifesto he said the people comes 1st.

Dear People of NL, as we all post and share our disdain and also for the few that support Mr Silva, lets know this that unless we, each of us, do whatever we can, when we can. The status quo will remain. Let’s start now to get actively outspoken against Party Politics, and be ready to defend the enthronement of a Purposeful ,Passionate and Righteous leadership come 2011.

@ rankin5, sorry it took a while to reply your post.

The essence on of this tread is that we always strive to answers peoples question, or share our insight into the profession. You intend building your career in the aviation sector, and I think that’s a good thing already. However you didn’t mention the specific functional area you which to specialise in, e.g. passenger services, operations, logistics , procurement etc.
Since your are registered with CILT and also doing a Master program in air transport management. I Think you are on the right track already, however do make efforts to define the particular area you want to specialise in, if it’s in Logistics or operations management, then like I said you are on the right track already.

The CILT professional certification I reckon is very good professional body ,however as we have always emphasised on this tread, it’s the hands on experience you get that counts the most in this profession.
So don’t worry too much about any further professional certification, I will advise you focus on the CILT, and also your masters and try make the most of your current work experiences. These are very good spring board already for an upward career mobility.

As regards schooling aboard , this is my personal opinion, but feel free to talk it over with other people and seek further advice.
Due to the current economic situation in the West, this is not the best of times to leave a job in Nigeria especially if that job gets you by, and come to the UK, US or any place in the West. For now I advise that if you can’t get a sponsor or scholarship that can cover the entire cost, and also the assurance that you can get you a better job back in Nigeria when you are done with your studies, then don’t bother about studying abroad for now.

If it’s possible, put it off until the economic situation in the West blows over, because then it will be a lot easy for you to get a job there on completion of your study and with the experiences you have also acquired, during this waiting period it sorts of gives you an edge when you want to go back into full time work after your studies.
As for the supply chain academy thing, it’s still in the pipeline, don’t worry once it goes live!, you will be sure to see all details on this tread.
Hope this helps, Cheers!

@datriplea and others
I will try and work on getting CIPS study guides (hard copies) available for purchase in Nigeria, but this may take some time. I know that’s getting study guides is still a challenge for most people taking the exams. However other than study guides or other recommended text for studying towards your CIPS exams, all other study materials like, past questions, assessors report( marking scheme) for previous exams, CIPS articles, and ISM articles can be downloaded free on the CIPS website. Also try and read and keep up to date with the supply management magazine, its a helpful tool for studying towards your CIPS exams.

"No country is going to create wealth if its leaders exploit the economy to enrich themselves, No business wants to invest in a place where the government skims 20 percent off the top, No person wants to live in a society where the rule of law gives way to the rule of brutality and bribery, That is not democracy, that is tyranny, even if occasionally you sprinkle an election in there, and now is the time for that style of governance to end."
    - Barack H. Obama, President of the United States of America  (July 11, 2009)

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) salutes our brother, Barack Obama for choosing Ghana over failed states such as Nigeria, Angola or Equatorial Guinea for his maiden official visit to sub-Saharan Africa.

This is a cheering message for ordinary Africans who will no longer have to tolerate watching the painful images on television of their corrupt leaders being warmly embraced by US Presidents.

If it were possible to delete images from our memory, many people will not hesitate to do away with the mismatched images of Reagan/Mobutu or Clinton/Obasanjo.

President Obama's candor has energized our movement and renewed our conviction in the ultimate triumph of justice. Because our fight for justice is happening in the type of country with a fraudulent electoral process, corrupt leadership and brutal military he described to parliament in Accra, we feel vindicated.

The problems facing our dear country Nigeria has nothing to do with militant freedom fighters but with the corrupt political leadership and certain arrogant tribes still living on past glory.

A boardroom or creek battle of epic proportion which will either emancipate the Niger Delta from over 50 years of tyranny or subject her to perpetual slavery was flagged off tonight by Hurricane Moses with a plague of warning attacks.

Led by a pillar of fire, heavily armed MEND fighters today, Sunday, July 12, 2009 at about 2230 Hrs carried out an unprecedented attack on the Atlas Cove Jetty in Lagos state. The depot and loading tankers moored at the facility are currently on fire.

The two-pronged approach of combining dialogue and intensifying attacks throughout the course of negotiations, will be the unique characteristics of Moses.

The Aaron team that will be put together after due consultations with stake holders from around the globe, militant commanders and Henry Okah, will present the time framed demands of the Niger Delta region to the President through the Timi Alaibe led Federal Government of Nigeria delegation.

MEND will as usual update the public on the progress being made as well as plagues being delivered.

We want to assure our people and well wishers that we will not sell our birthright for a bowl of porridge because we are not committed to anyone but the people of the Niger Delta.

The mother of all plagues will be used as a last resort if the Nigerian Pharaohs show stubbornness over reasoning just as Moses did with the plague on the firstborn in ancient Egypt and the Americans with the plague of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

We sincerely hope for the sake of avoiding a total calamity that Egypt will not harden its heart and the exodus of our people to the promised land can commence as soon as possible.

God save Nigeria. God bless the Niger Delta. God bless our Freedom Fighters.

These boys are serious, and showing the power of having strategy, as against  the  Nigerian Federal government / Leadership being so clueless.
My personal stand though is this, MEND should refrain form further violence and loss of life’s in this struggle, but yes this struggle for good governance, and ousting of the ruling thieving cabal PDP is not just for the Niger delta alone, but for all of Nigeria must continues.

Utomi launches movement for electoral reforms
Monday, 13 July 2009 05:35 Elombah.com

Utomi launches movement for electoral reforms- This is a commendable move on the part of Pat Utomi. I wrote here that we need a skilful politician to start an organisation, a movement that should harness the creative energy and internet savvy of our youths for political change.

Utomi said: This disciplined vanguard of youth may number in the tens of thousands and be present in every ward. It will be non-partisan and focused on how the ballot box can be a legitimating instrument for elected officials.
The committee on voter education: This group will be dedicated to massive campaigns to educate voters, to focus on issues, the character and competence of candidates and their antecedents.

Recruiters of middles class participants into politics: This initiative is designed to inspire more educated middle class people and professional to actively play citizenship roles of voting, persuading other to vote for preferred candidates and running for office.
This is driven by the understanding that unless politics is dominated by middle class values and concerns, and the systems is committed to a majority of citizens being in this middle bulge, social stability will continue to be a challenge.
He concluded that for those "who fail to perform their roles, there is the query waiting for you in history and at heaven gates".
A lot of Nigerian young men and women are on Facebook, Yahoo groups, various Internet forums and have mobile phone; which Nigerian politician is making any effort to harness this dormant force.

Only in Nigeria do those that label themselves as democrats tend to wait until the general election comes before they start campaigning to see if they will win the electorates vote without a formidable structure or campaigns manifestos.
Rome was not built in a day, the effort might even take decades, but patience and hard work never disappoints; ask Moshood Abiola.

Our aspiring politicians should look at other western countries to see how the opposition prepare themselves for the next election even when they failed in a general election.
They still fight to the last to see that their party emerged in the next election by organizing political meeting, adverts, rallies etc for the people to see the different between their views by providing a formidable opposition.

How can you convince the electorate without making your views and aspiration known to them, when you don't organise talks, seminars conferences. When you don't mobilise grassroots support without waiting until the election is around the corner?

Barack Obama's success should have taught any aspiring politician that those that want change can bring change only if they plan well for it. The energy of our internet warriors are waiting to be harnessed. The aim might not even be simply winning an election, why not start from effecting legislative change; electoral reform for example.
The way things are, it simply a Herculean task to dislodge the ruling party from power. In view of this as a member of the Electoral Reform Committee (ERC), Barrister Festus Okoye suggested:

"Groups and other stakeholders can forward and sponsor the three Bills in the Report of the Electoral Reform Committee to the National Assembly as private members Bill and rescue the electoral process from the Bills already submitted and programmed to fail. Civil society groups and organizations can design a robust engagement policy and work with members of the National and State Assemblies especially during the public hearing of some of the Bills to impute into provisions of some of the Bills that can strengthen the electoral process and clean up the environment for elections."

Here is the Vanguard Report:
Utomi launches movement for electoral reforms
IT was not the usual gathering to wine and dine, not withstanding that it was a special dinner for Pat Utomi, school teacher, entrepreneur and politician. The gathering was almost like a conference of the opposition: except professional who want a better republic.
You could call them the truly concerned professionals.Opposition politicians like Peter Okocha, Action Congress governorship candidate in Delta State and Atiku Abubakar, alter ego, was there. So also was AC governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi.
Also in the gathering were advertising guru, Udeme Ufot, Ray Ekpu of Newswatch, and president, Guild of Editors, Gbenga Adefaye, notwithstanding the intimidating presence of Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Alhaji Sikiru Shitta-bey and others. It was a night to remember, weekend, at Chinese Restaurants especially Prof. Utomi's clarion call to the middle class whom he accused of negligence and betrayal by allowing rascals to seize the political space.
Former attorney-general of Lagos State, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, kick-started the night by calling for credible people to man the nations electoral process pointing out that successive elections in the country have not translated into democracy.
Prof. Osinbajo who lamented what he called wholesale subversion of the electoral process stated that "things seemed to have steadily worsened; 20003 poll is the worst, election riggers stay on and may even get re-elected: Rigging continues because there is no sanction."
He made reference to the petition filed by All Nigerians People Party ANPP presidential candidate in 2007 where the names and ranks of the election offenders were listed and nothing was done, saying that "more will take a cue and act with impunity "In future elections.
Another problem he identified in electoral system was the burden of proof which he said "is a major problem in Nigeria" adding that it takes eternity to prove cases of rigging."Prof. Osinbajo who is also a pastor maintained that "rigging pays because there is no consequence for electoral infraction" stressing that "there must be sanction for rigging such as disqualification of riggers".
However, he stated that " whatever it is that we do, if we don't appoint men and women of integrity by a process to head our electoral commission, we are still going to have the same kind of election we have been having since 1964".
In his own remarks Dr. Feyemi emphasised the importance of forensic analysis that threw out former senator Femi Kila saying that the analysis showed that Kila had 19,000 votes with the same serial number.
He described the political class as "repulsive, cynical, calculative, opportunistic and people of low moral value" but pointed out that, politics, if properly conducted is driven by a high form of intellectualism" adding that "it is about ideas, life and values.
Dr. Fayemi urged those who take part in politics to ensure "citizens participation in our democracy and how to make fundamental differences in the life of ordinary people."Speaking further, he said "that is why I am saying as we talk about electoral reforms now, we really need to be talking about our own involvement and participation in making a difference in our own society.
Without direct citizen participation, the legitimacy of our political institutions would continue to decline. We should all be worried about the doubting of the public space by many of us particularly the professionals".
He explained that the involvement of his type in politics was borne out of a "desire to live in a society that actually responds to the needs that we have for ourselves"Stressing the importance of civil society in democracy, he stated that "if you do not have a civil society in your neighbourhood association, in your community development meeting, in your town union, then the political society is not going to exist.
So in our communities and constituencies, we must continue to organise. You either continue to stand on the sideline and complain about how they are mis ruling and misgoverning us in this country or we decide to stop agonise and start organise.
He said the Ekiti re-run election was a test for democratic change where people protected their votes saying "Ekiti actually provided a template for the resistance movement that must be put in place against electoral fraud in 2011".
Also speaking, a third republic Senator Patrick Ani, endorsed Justice Mohammud Uwais panel.Recommendation that the president should be divested of the power to appoint INEC chairman saying that the recommendation should be implemented fully.
He also called on President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua to reject the Attoney - General of the Federation AGF panel recommendation of staying in office beyond 2011 to enable him complete the unbundling of INEC.
Prof. Utomi, who was the guest of honour began his speech on a note of lamentation over what Nigeria has become and the lack of participation of the middle class in the nation's political process describing them as "the enemy in the mirror".
He however expressed hope that "together we can save this country" quoting American President Barrack Obama. "We can together pull this country through"."I have found Nigeria's enemy, the enemy is in the mirror, it is you and me because you protect your comfort zone, you are the enemy, the middle class speak of lack, yet we do nothing.
He said "Today we introduce a new Concept. To do nothing is wrong because we have a duty; we must forge an alliance between the rich and the poor, the professional, and the civil society. He said adding that "we must build institutions".
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Candidate in the 2007 election identified four basic initiatives that must be put in place. These include lawyer interested in free and fair Elections is designed to be an army of lawyers volunteering some of their time to follow up on all issues of the electoral process.
The goal is to have at least two lawyers committed to every ward in the country. Three former NBA Presidents and the incumbent have volunteered to serve on the honorary council of LIFE.Senior lawyers including General IBM Haruna, Ahmadu Abubakar and others are likely to join the drive for volunteer lawyers.
The next vehicle for electoral process integrity is: citizens united to prevent ballot box rigging (CUPBBR) it is a programme for mobilizing volunteer young people trained to passionately defend the integrity of the cast ballot.
This disciplined vanguard of youth may number in the tens of thousands and be present in every ward. It will be non-partisan and focused on how the ballot box can be a legitimating instrument for elected officials.
